Hey guys! Brad Litton from SimpleGuitar.com here with a beginner guitar lesson that's a pep talk about how anything worth doing is worth doing poorly to get started. How does that apply to playing guitar? Because if you're struggling at all with guitar and you're starting to get discouraged, I want to encourage you to keep going and free you from thinking that you need to "master" the guitar or learn everything there is to learn.
Remember that the guitar is as much about what happens in your mind as it is what you do with your hands. We like to talk about the mindset & motivational side of playing guitar every once in awhile so use this pep talk to pick yourself up anytime that you're feeling frustrated or down about the journey you're making to learn guitar.
    Hope this helps you out!

I started learning guitar in my late 60s. I have several fingers that I mangled and I have some arthritis. I skipped a lot of the theory and practice stuff and went for playing easy songs. Being able to play and sing has kept the fun in learning.

Great talk Brad! Thanks for the encouragement. I know I’ll need it when I’m in a slump. Have been there several times.

Man this video released at a really good time for me. This entire week I had been practising scales for about 30 mins at a time before going back to practising some basic cord progressions for the rest of my guitar playing. On Friday I decided to really work on my scales, however after an hour, my fretting hand cramped up with terrible wrist pain. I searched up beginner guitar videos for wrist pain and found my arm, wrist (and even guitar placement) were all slightly wrong, so I fixed that, but the problem was that I had developed muscle memory for the wrong wrist placement.
Yesterday was really frustrating having to unlearn my mistake, but at least I confirmed my technique has been rectified since I had no wrist pain whatsoever after powering through yesterday.

I'm so glad you figured out how to play better without pain! Keep reminding yourself about the proper positioning every day and it will become second nature to you to play correctly all the time! Good job! Keep it up!

I've been playing for around 3 months now and everything sounds pretty terrible whenever I start out playing it but over the weeks I've found I actually sound pretty much like I wanted to after a while so I guess I just need to keep in mind that in order to keep progressing I just need to suck for a bit and it will come to me in time.
Then again I expected to suck in all honesty which is why I decided to play the blues to start with. Not just because it sounds great but it's also where rock and roll started and progressed from so I figured there would be as good of a place to start as any. I've hit a few walls for a couple of days along the way though but I always seem to ride it out and find something else to attempt that might be in my skill range
