I like that they are going to give Alana a bit more depth. In the show she just seemed like a overachiever and a bit rude for not considering others like when she shared the note after Evan told her not to.

I’m kind of annoyed how people are so harsh with this movie. Obviously it’s going to be its own thing, it’s not a replica of the musical or else that would be still nice but boring. It has its own little things. Of course
I’m sad about some songs being cut but I’m excited to just see this movie and the still main idea of it being there, and I really like this song more than disappear tbh. Since a lot of disappear was fake Conner and shit, this one feels real and legit. If u come into the theatre with a set mind on what it’s gonna be you will be disappointed

Ohkay, I will admit that this song is really good. I can see how it could be a replacement for Disappear. Both songs hit me hard when I first heard them [heard the full audio version of this song already].
However I will never forgive them for cutting Good For You. That is such an amazing song and such an important moment in the movie.
Tbh I love this, but NOTHING could replace Disappear.

I understand that they want to give her some more depth, because to quite some people she was very unlikeable in the musical, but it's sad that it had to come at the cost of great and important songs like Good for you and Anybody have a map? being cut from the movie.

I watched the movie yesterday. It was absolutely incredible. Sobbed from the minute it came on to the end.

It sucks we didn't get all the songs, but the songs we did get were beautiful. And on that note, Alana and Conner's new songs were a great addition. Also, if you listen to the marching band in the beginning of the movie, the song they play is awfully familiar. Here's hoping for a deluxe soundtrack that includes the missing songs....
I was certainly sad that Disappear wasn't included, but this song is just as powerful-and dammit, gosh darn beautifully preformed. I love this song, it's one of the best parts about the film adaptation. I know it's getting a lot of hate online, but please if you get the chance, go see this movie. It's worth it.

When I first heard this song in the theater I burst into tears this means so much to me and even my dad was crying I don’t think I’ve ever seen him cry
I actually don't mind that much that "disappear" isn't in it but for goodness' sake, where did "Good For You' go? Anonymous Ones is a really important and good song as a whole but Good For You was such a pivotal point in the story, I hope they make up for it in the movie

im happy that they have new songs coming in but also sad that they cut some songs which i think are also necessary like anybody have a map which shows the struggles of their parents or disappear or all the other songs they cut from the movie :(
This song replaced Disappear, because it was easier to have Alana introduce the Connor Project instead of having a fake version of Connor that is actually a projection of Evan arguing with himself
As for Anybody Have a Map, they cut it because they wanted to introduce the Murphys during the principal's office scene so we could meet them at the same time as Evan and really get his confusion
I'm guessing they cut To Break in a Glove because it's the song that people liked the least, and because they made Larry the stepfather so it changes his relationship to Connor
And as for Good For You, i'm still mad they cut it lmao, but I guess they wanted the big tension moments to be all dialogue so it could flow better, and because it was too much of a challenge since 80% of it happens in Evan's head

I really want the Sincerely Me clip uploaded! It's hands down the most impressive part of the movie, the chemistry of the actors and their passion during that number is just impeccable
I’m SUCH a big fan of the musical, and I’ve got to say (apart from this song which is amazing) I’m worried it’s not going to be what we’re wanting, especially after they cut some of the BEST songs and (as much as I love him) Ben looks too old for the rest of the cast. They should’ve used Andrew, at least he’s actually still high school age.

I loved this song. Alana's story was hands down the best part and change of the movie. However I missed to break in a glove... It was such a great song to tap into the Dad's character (seriously imagine if when he sang "for a kid who's lost control" and his voice breaks the Dad almost cried!!!! IT'S EVEN BETTER BECAUSE ZOE SAID HE DIDN'T CRY AT THE FUNERAL)
Anyways.... Yeah loved her story.
Ahhhhh I also missed Jared's arch.
All I wish was that they didn't develop one character better than the musical and then underdeveloped two that were already developed. I mean C'MON
To be honest I disagree with what most critics are saying about the movie (they are being too cynical about the plot in my opinion) but I have my own concerns ( like character development and how they focus too much on everyone's faces). But overall I enjoyed it and it was a good movie. I cried so much OMG I'm not even kidding.
If anyone wants to know what I meant just ask. I didn't get into the details because people probably don't want to know what I meant anyways.

When I first saw this part, I thought of my lovely boss. She's an absolutely wonderful person, but she puts on a front all the time.

I adore how they're exploring the concept that depressed people don't always walk around with tears in their eyes and visible markings or constantly are alone...I get it ya know? I feel like any time I even try to talk about my problems people tell me that they're not valid due to the fact I don't seem "depressed" Depression isn't a style or an aesthetic, it's a way someone is it's a constant state of regret and fear and a lack of hope for anything. So stop telling people who is and isn't depressed enough. We all go through our depressions differently and our ways of coping are all different. (mine personally is through humor) anyways love ya

the song anonymous ones is a very powerful statement in the movie and as It did give the character more depth it also intensified the movie a bit made it more emotional engaging and I love that about movies. I personally am not upset whith the songs they cut because I think the songs in the movie are very power fully and just as engaging you would have to wach the scenes to truly understand and accept why they cut those specific songs -whith much love to the movie and musical 🎵 🎶❤

I know it was all Evan’s fault for lying and the letter was actually his but I thought it was so messed up that she shared it with everyone. Like damn what if it was real and Evan wasn’t lying? She didn’t even know the truth yet either. Idk that part got me like what the heck. Btw she has the most sweetest voice I ever heard.
This must be one of the new songs they wrote. I’ve never understood why filmmakers always think they have to materially change Broadway shows when they adapt them to movies. Just leave it the same. We want to see the Broadway show on screen, not something similar to the Broadway show on screen.
They do it so they can be eligible for the "Best Original Song" category at the Oscars.

The whole point of an adaptation is supposed to be transforming it for another medium
to be honest. Alana is one of the main characters and doesn't even have many solos. I kinda think her getting her own song is justified
Because musical movies are not filmed stage performance. Films are a different medium, and the film audience has different expectations than the theater audience. And so, changes have to be made.
Otherwise, what you should be petitioning is not a musical movie "adaptation" but the proshot of the original show, which is something everyone wants but producers rarely do because union laws and stuff.
The reason why the film is so different from the musical/book, is because the film takes place in an alternate reality where Alana convinces Evan to be involved in the Connor Project, thereby ultimately leading to his redemption by him telling the truth not just because of his own misguided visions and insecurities, but because through Alana he genuinely has started to sympathize with the other ‘anonymous ones’ around him instead of being coddled by his mom and her annoyingly outdated songs.
I guess this is meant to replace disappear but it just won't hit the same

I’m sorry. But if you’re going to make a movie based on a Broadway musical. A Broadway musical that many people love and have used to help them through life. You can’t take out four amazing songs, especially one (disappear) that has made people feel that they are not alone and that even if they feel like no one sees them they are seen. I understand they wanted to make her more of a character, but they basically lost the entire musical because of it. Hopefully it will be good, but I know even now nothing can beat the musical. And it’s sad that they had to take out four amazing songs for one character.
Ikr! U summed up my thoughts perfectly. I love this new song Alana did but i hate that it came instead of Disappear. Disappear basically sums up the main idea of the show and everyone's fear. It's ridiculous that they took out this song
what makes it worse is that the songs they removed were some of the most plot heavy songs as well! Good For You is literally calling Evan out on his BS and they just straight up removed it.
The Anonymous Ones has the exact same message and effect as Disappear, and it's actually way better at delivering that message because instead of Evan running around talking to himself in the form of talking to a fake image of Conner, it's a real person uplifting herself and her lesser known demographic (the people you can't superficially tell have depression) AS WELL as lifting up Evan. It just feels more solid than a kid running around singing to his imaginary version of a kid who he didn't even know.

They are changing a lot, I can see alana has a nicer plot. In the book connor was lonely, outsider and gay he fall for his only friend (the one in the photo that has cut and connor was smiling) and couldn't handled it he freak out and kill himself, in the book you get to know connor, in the musical real connor is like for 10 minutes and then is just the imaginary connor. I wonder how connor will be

Not a fan of what I've seen so far and this is coming from someone who has seen the musical live 10 times. Hoping the movie proves me wrong, but the reviews so far have not been very promising.
Forget the reviews, a lot of the critics weren't fans of the musical or haven't even seen it before. I was fortunate to be able to watch the movie already, and thought it was as good as the musical and in many ways enhanced it by filling in a lot of the gaps.
@@kennywenger634 I'm gonna give it a chance, but I also respect the criticisms it's received. I just think the movie came out too soon and that the Broadway show should've just been filmed like Come From Away, Hamilton, and Diana.
@@Analblockage The Broadway musical received it's share of criticism too, especially after all the awards that it won. The changes are fairly subtle and the film stays true to the original storyline. I say if you loved DEH enough to see it that many times, enjoy the movie for all the same reasons. This is coming from someone that saw Ben a half dozen times during his run and that many times for the national tour.
I haven't seen enough to decide, I think this alana is too quiet and sound like she's whispering which is the total opposite of the alana on broadway. But I've only seen 2 second clips so I don't know what her performance is actually like
I'm with you. I've seen it live in West End 3 times (it was only open for like 5 months!) and on UA-cam, and I was apprehensive about the movie from the start because I don't like musicals being made into movies. What I've seen so far hasn't alleviated that. Someone on a DEH group also said they saw it and that there's no comparison to the musical and shouldn't have been made.

I thought so too until the song really started to pick up (which isn't in this video). I think it delivers the same message and effect as Disappear, but that it delivers it better. The sincerity of the message feels a lot more solid coming from a real person within a rarely acknowledged demographic as opposed to a kid running around singing to his imaginary version of a kid he didn't even know.

@@FanOBarbaro We actually looked up all the actors ages during the movie (theater was empty besides us) and all the high school actors are around the same age. His age isn't the issue, it's his overall structure. His face and body type look more mature than his fellow actors. Maybe the make up and wardrobe could've been better? Maybe not? I'm not really an expert in that field. But regardless, it has nothing to do with his age.
