I've just found you and am cheered by your message! I must admit I mostly had you on as distraction while I was washing dishes. But, several times I stopped the washing up to listen. Glad I found you…❤️
As a fairly new crocheter, thank y’all for donating nice yarn to thrift stores if you won’t use it. I was SO excited a couple days ago when o found enough wool yarn to make a sweater. I’ve only ever made stuff out of acrylic so this will be big for me.
I'm so excited for 2025. My son and his family have been living with us for a few years and they are moving out next week.... and my granddaughter's room is going to become my craft room. I can't wait! Not only will I be able to spread out and access my crafty stuff, I'll be able to get it all organized and purged. I love the idea of a Yuck Box. Without even looking I know of 4 or 5 skeins that will go straight into it. Wishing you a happy and yarny 2025!
Great ideas! I thought for the first one you were going to say clean your yarn room! Thank you for putting it at number 2. 😊 These are great suggestions for starting 2025! Happy New Year, Shannon 🎉
I actually really love this list. Normally I only get one or two things out of lists like this but this one is great. I have plans to go through my entire house this year and yes my craft room is absolutely getting thoroughly cleaned out. So is the craft storage room in my basement for all of my ADHD abandoned crafts that I end up going back to after 10 years. I'm excited about this. I definitely love the idea of purging. I have people who would love these things. It's time for them to move on. I also have a real need to replace some of my knitting needle tips from the heirloom sets that you have spoken about. I have a beautiful set but needles absolutely will just completely disappear. I'm going to figure out if they are hidden somewhere and then I'm going to update my kit so I have all the sizes I should have. My daughter has already said that she wants my needles when I go. I'm only 45. I did buy her a very nice set but I understand her feeling. I love that she appreciates them.
I’m so glad that resonated with you! I’m with you when it comes to the usual list type of videos lol but these were all things that work for me and my suspected undiagnosed adhd!
Oh, yes, you did call me out about wasting time scrolling, but I appreciate it. We all need that nudge from time to time. 😅 This was a great video. I can see some yarn I want to put in my yuck box from here - it's going straight in! Thank you for the inspiration. 💜
Great ideas! Reaffirms that I'm not alone in making some lists of goals. My suggestion to add to the goals list is, once you have a random list of goals, then prioritize them and then prioritize the list of items within each main category. I think this might have been my downfall in the past. I haven't prioritized (not my strong suit anyway) ideas/projects within each goal category, as well as the entire list as a whole. This literally leaves me too much room to wander and dabble in each idea and leads me down unintended rabbit holes. This isn't entirely bad, but I need to put a time limit on the rabbit hole adventures because even though they may be productive, they don't really address the long term goals that I want to have time for. Here's an example of what I mean by prioritize: Within Fiber Arts Category, I have have crochet, knitting, quilting, cross-stitch, rug hooking, etc. Within each of those subcategories I have projects or ideas that I'd like to explore. In crochet, I want to ultimately start creating my own mosaic & tapestry crochet patterns. But for years I've gotten side tracked, by making other people's patterns, as a way to investigate techniques, yarn weights, etc, when I really want to do my own thing. This goes into the yarn purchasing problem as well. I really just always gravitate to the yarn I've either spun or dyed myself. But I buy yarn that I think that I will like, and in yarn store quantities (LOL), but no more of that. I also struggle with guilt of unfinished projects. I like to finish things or frog them after a certain amount of time. I have no patience for very long term UFOs. They make me kind of anxious. I also forget what I'm doing and where I am in patterns, even though I've documented that info on the pattern and also on a tag that I pin to the project from the get go (you never know when you are going to put down a project for a long term hibernation and I've learned my lesson). Anyway, I need to prioritize what I want to do or learn or I know I will get side-tracked by the next new & shiny project or idea. I also need to block out some time for chaos brain. That's just a part of me and I accept that, although, I also know that I need to reign that in, if I want to accomplish my goals. I hope prioritizing them and their subcategories, and then projects & techniques will help. Then I will give them a soft deadline. For example, I'm not allowed to start some random-*ss project before ticking off the box for the time I need to give to my goal list for that category. Do the research, get the technique down on mosaic crochet before diving into some random crochet hat tangent that has nothing to do with mosaic crochet or furthering my yearly goals. I think this hopefully will encourage me to figure out ways to meld learning goals with productivity & process goals. So now I'm off on a tangent, so I'll cut this comment off now and just say thank you for reinforcing the list idea. I had taken a couple days off from my list at the end of the year, but I'm committed again after your video. I need this organization in my life. Side note, I dove hard into my yarn hoard over the holidays and took out all the yarn I'm allergic to and all the yarn that is just too thick for me to work with comfortably and boxed it up and brought it to my Mom. I left 2 huge (30x24x24")boxes with her. It will just blend into her hoard, LOL. I still have more that should go, but at least I got rid of the yarn that is unhealthy for me to work with. Yay! Take care and have a great new year!
Great job on the destashing! Here’s what happens when I don’t prioritize: I gravitate to the easy things first and ignore the hard things even when I’m done with the easy things 😬 I definitely need to work on prioritizing!
I have a timer that I often set as soon as I go on IG, Pinterest, and Ravelry. I just know that I will waste time on things that just cloud up my goal list if I spend too much time there. The other thing that keeps me from scrolling for too long is that it's really just sensory overload for me. It makes me feel 'off' physically dizzy when there's just too much visual or auditory stimuli. I guess that's a built in timer or reminder to get off the media and get busy with my hands. 😁
lol it does sound like a built in timer!!! But that is a great idea to set a limit. Sometimes it’s really hard to “feel” how long I’ve been online 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Shannon you are a great person to help inspire us with our yarn, and all other things crochet. You have some great advice as well . Thanks for sharing these things with us. God bless you. 😊
Shannon thank you for all your advice over the past year.i really love watching you.this was a great video and advice.have a healthy and happy new year.💙💙much love
Hi, Shannon! What great tips - I definitely want to use many of them. I have been knitting and crocheting for many years and I have waaaayyy too much yarn. I like that you are using the smaller hooks, and I want to tell you what I did. I love Susan Bates hooks best because of the way the hook is shaped. I bought the Clover hooks and then some other hooks with similar handles. I didn’t like the hook ends, so I pulled them out of the rubbery part and inserted my hooks instead. They work great! I like the steel hooks because I like to make things with crochet thread, so that is why I bought the non-Clover hooks in the smaller sizes (Clover didn’t have those smaller sizes). I love the hat you’re wearing, by the way.
I’m currently working on a Make Nine board for the 9 projects I really want to complete in 2025. I may not get them all done but it’s my starting point. Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I will definitely apply some of them. Happy New Year
I have three things I do with "yukky" yarn. 1. It goes in the "yarn naughty corner" if its offence is only one of colour, not texture or quality. (There are some misbehaving projects in there too 🤭) 2. It gets sent to prison (a big bag stuffed in the back of a wardrobe, where I never need to look at it). This is yarn that is fine in itself, but I hate working with it. Usually a texture issue, ultra splittyness or perhaps produces such poor stitch definition so that everything look ugly. 3. Expulsion. Yes, I throw it away. I'm so disgusted with it I just have to be rid of it completely. It's so bad I wouldn't even inflict it upon anyone as a donation. This would be very knotty yarn, very dirty or smelly yarn (how do they get like that??? 😧) or yarn that brings me out in a rash. Yes. This has happened to me. (You know who you are Cygnet DK 🤨) Happy New Year from "across the pond" Shannon! 😊

I love your system so much!! I agree, sometimes some yarn just isn’t salvageable unfortunately. Happy new year to you too! 😃
