I used to ride my dirt bike there when I was a kid. They called it the Bridle Track because originally it was so rough and steep you had to get of your horse and leed it by the Bridle.

Hi all, don't be misled by this old footage, the Bridle Track is now opened the whole way thru, Bathurst to Hill End. It was reopened on 13th February 2023, good old Bathurst Regional Council, only took 13 years to build possibly 2.5 kilometres of road with todays equipment, the convicts would have built the entire road with picks & shovels in months possibly. Aside from my criticism of the delay, Council contractors have done a good job, graded, rolled, basically resurfaced the entire unsealed section BUT be warned, there's buckets of dust if going in convoy.

Awesome part of the world, been going there since the 70's with trials bikes and old utes camping. The fourbies have destroyed all the trails now as well as a lot of the campgrounds. Be prepared to spend a couple of days cleaning up your campsite as they leave their rubbish behind too. Now I know who to blame for destroying the trails through the "Orchard" you can't even walk through there now. A lot of it is fenced now so less places to get off road and explore. Now it's open all the way a lot of traffic and trailers chopping it up, was better when it was closed at Monoghans and the track was a challenge.

I did it in a 1986 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR Turbo before GPS wasn't available!

Not really true about caravans being banned...the sign says its an advisory and other signs say not recommended...but yes not the best thing to have to reverse on a very narrow track
