My Dad always talked about Chasing Shadows, it was one of his favorite songs. He had purchased the cassette twice in the 80s and lost both times to his friend Franky. He had bothered me about finding the song for him but couldn't remember the title. For the longest time we would just sit and listen to deep purple albums, hoping that it would appear at some point in time and solve our deep purple mystery. In 2016 we finally did find it on UA-cam- which really made the process a lot easier when we were searching. My Dad brought it up two months ago, talking about his large collection which had slowly disappeared over time, and it always came back to Chasing Shadows. My friend Dave was cleaning out his personal collection of records, cassettes, CDs, and other music because he was downsizing to a new home and didn't have the space, he asked if I wanted anything before he started selling it all. I asked him if he happened to have Deep Purple 3 and didn't hear back from him for a while. Last week I got a package in the mail and suddenly it was in my hands. Mint condition, never opened, Deep Purple 3. I don't think the cassette would work anymore at this point, but I can't wait to give it to my Dad. Only one more weekend until I go back home. Couldn't be more excited.
Deep Purple's Third is one of the best kept secret album of all times. Much better than the two previous, this record contains very good tunes written by the band. Jon Lord's "Blind" is a true masterpiece with harpsicord and emotional voice. The psychedelic and percussive Lord-Paice's Chasing Shadows is a haunting composition which could have been a great hit if the line-up had not disbanded so quickly. Very nice montage from Thesigvardi.
This album is a "dead-born" (as we say in France) album. When it came out, MkI was not alive anymore. Gillan and Glover had already rejoigned the band and they were working on a new repertoire. Deep Purple hadn't promote this album at all. People who are loving this LP are true DP fans ! That why I called it "the best kept secret LP of all times".
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS. Deep Purple mark one were the best and this is a great bit of editing. I think these two tunes were two of their finest and certainly highlighted Mr Ian Paice's wonderful drumming skills
My LP is stamped "Property of WGLT". It was a radio station reject and my brother in law who worked there in college gave it to me around 1970 when I was 5. I used to listen to it in the dark with a flashing psychedic light box in my bedroom. I'm a musician and the sound of this album influenced my musical tastes. It's the only DP album I've ever heard but I had not heard these songs since my turntable broke in the 1980s. Anyway, something terrifying happened 2 days ago, then I had insomnia, remembered the album cover and suddenly wanted to hear Chasing Shadows at 4AM. I was not expecting to find video footage... I've never even seen a picture of the band until now. What a nice surprise to find this unique video with both songs!
Ian gillian dont have it anymore the fire and energy of purple is gone in the live show .. There just geting on in age will listen to them till i die..... rip jon lord ....
I am amazed by this footage and this song. The driving rhythm and percussion was soon to be the hallmark sound for this band. I can hear elements of the future songs developing here , Thanks for sharing this. As a life long fan of this band it is greatly appreciated.
Bill Cosby owned part of the record label that released this album .. (comedy albums were big in those days- but they wanted to expand .. good on them ! )
Buenos discos de deep purple los tres primeros me encanta BLIND de ese 3er disco la portada está fea da miedo escucho todas las noches está alineación mark1
Ian Paice on Blind should be studied. Maybe my fave drum by him. As good as anything on Zepp 1 Just focus on the drums. That song has incredible melodic interplay between vocals and Jon Lord….so it’s easy to focus there….but just listen to those drums man.
I'm sorry but this is my favorite era of Deep Purple.Wish it could have lasted longer.
Mine too!
same!
Chasing Shadows has always been one of my favorites.
Me too.
@@joelombrdo ME THREE
@@TURTLES_FOR_LIFEEE I always wished Purple would've played the song live when they had Gillan.
no doubt at all
I love early Deep Purple. I liked them when they went heavy too but I really like this early stuff.
TheY were always heavy the original tittle of SOTW was DHUR DHUR DHUR
Me too this is great. Rod Evan had a great voice.

"Blind" is gorgeous. I knew as soon as I heard it that it was Jon Lord's creation. His playing is magnificent.
You are grand % right!
Absolutely true, Blind is incredible!
Absolutely agreed!
Whoever turned me on to this song, I Thank You. It's like a group that I've never seen, but still Deep Purple.
I've always had a special affection for the self-titled album. They were just hitting their stride when they sacked Rod and Nick.
Jon Lord was a very good songwriter on his own. I really love "Blind": my MkI favourite song.
I completely agree and go even further: my favorite Deep Purple's song!

Yes it is.Deep Purple forever.
I completely agree. Rod Evans was the best era of Deep Purple. Nobody had a voice like his. No one.
Blind, masterpiece for chilling those coronavirus days

Chasing shadows is a masterpiece..!!!!
Just listen the bass line in Chasing Shadows...fantastic.
Ian Paice is so badass. One of my biggest influences
These might be his best 2 tracks ever -that drumming on Blind is as good as anything on Zepp1
You ve really shown your love for MK I. We ve got the message. We hear you. Because we really love MK I too.
Holy shit, this is better than found money. I listened to old DP back in the day and Hush is incredible.....but wow!
Nick Simpler and Rod Evans era was awesome 👍👌.
You're right. Check the two first Captain Beyond (Rod Evans) albums, the two Warhorse and two Fandango (Nick Simper) Lps!
Hubert Allusson right on, thanks. 😁
Outstanding musicianship in this band.
Great video. Totally worth the seizure.
Jon Lord. ............. 💙
Rod Evans forever
Rod Evans, i just made something about Rod Evans, hes not been heard from since 1980. Its my latest upload on my channel, give it a watch :)
Nothing against Evans. But watch Child in time on youtube and you'll understand why he was sacked. No offense.

Спасибо.
AWESOME
My fave part of Deep Purple.VERY underated.Nic and Rod are better than given credit for(though the bogus Deep Purple was a bad move)

Musica para mis oidos.....
Род Эванс, по моему мнению, был лучшим вокалистом , но... Есть одно НО!!! Поп хотел рок, а Эванс хотел баллады... Но голос красивейший...
nice solo ritchie ....
Simper was fired for "old school playing bass", What à fuc.. g incredible mistake.
