That is an excellent video how to explain it. My neighbor was denied for purchase and when you mentioned current address that clicked because it’s ID it’s at a different county. I’ll definitely tell him to update his address.
A dealer not proceeding is different than an actual denial. Make sure he knows whether his background was run and he was denied or the dealer refused to proceed because of the address.
Good info, however, I believe you are mistaken about the current address portion. There are documents you can accept to show a buyers current address if the buyers ID does not match what they write down as long as it is a government issued document, for example a current vehicle registration or property tax bill are acceptable.
I’ll have to rewatch the video because I thought I covered that. Definitely correct, I’ve used vehicle registration with an out of state ID before since Texas makes the vehicle registration get updated before the DL
I hope this is why I was denied my first gun purchase. I asked the FFL about last name because on my social I have 2 last names but on my license its only 1. She told me to just put the one on my license down not both. I hope its an ez fix just waiting for the paperwork to start digging into why I was denied. Lame. Great videos tho!
Dont forget to mention, the type of name you legally have can make or break wether of not youre denied a firearm purchase, regardless of clean background.

I’ve been delayed, and I was given something called an QUEUE NUMBER , I got in contact with the FDLE and emailed them a CERTIFIED CASE DISPOSITION showing that I was not convinced of a felony , I still haven’t heard anything back
Interesting. I hadn't heard of this with the Florida. They may just take time to process information. Might also be worth getting your Florida Concealed Carry permit since they run the background check for it, may expedite the process in the future.

You can combine government documents to satisfy the requirements for identification. Most people don’t have other valid government documents updated if they don’t have their ID/DL done, unfortunately. It’s also very rare for somebody to carry around a vehicle registration, government utility bill, or something like that.
Hey there! I’m 19 years old and on Saturday (February 4,2023) I bought a semi-auto shotgun Charles Daly at a gun shop called “United Gun Shop” in Maryland. It was my very first time walking in to a gun shop and I was pretty nervous because I am Hispanic and seeing just white people makes me kinda nervous but they were really nice and helped me out. I have a clean record and currently waiting for a approval. The employee told me that he will give me a call or if I don’t hear from him then I can come back to the shop on February 9. I’m still nervous if somehow the background check comes denied.

So how do you answer the felony question.. had a felony 29 years ago the and the court reduced it 1203.4 we know that does nothing for gun rights the court found paperwork that I was innocent so the judge vacated immediately 1385pc vacated / and said all records to be destroyed…….. So how would I answer the felony question (I am in California)
You have to read the instructions for that question and answer accordingly. California is always odd but I know in Texas that if somebody goes through what we call deferred adjudication and completes the process for a felony they’re allowed to buy a gun. The hitch will be whether or not the courts/jurisdiction actually did their paperwork and vacated the judgement.
@@Gunner411 yes they did I was in court DA and the JUDGE agreed I was charged with the wrong crime but it had been brought down to a misdemeanor already since 2018 Pc 1203.4 but that does not give gun rights back So they vacated a misdemeanor and I have the paperwork stamped certified and I also mailed it to the FBI AND SOJ as well as the court did and the paperwork says all records and police records shall be destroyed.. I've filled out about a dozen 4473's over the past decade and had never been delayed or denied (besides my first purchase), but ever since Covid came around I can pretty much guarantee I'll be delayed (a day or so later I'll be approved). No legal issues that would disqualify me from purchasing a firearm in that time. I do have a fairly common name though. Could that be what is hanging me up?
It's possible that before you started having trouble somebody else with the same name got in to actual trouble and they're just taking the extra precaution of putting an agents eyes on your checks to ensure you're not that person. If you're in a state that has a NICS exception for carry permits, I'd definitely recommend getting your carry permit.
It could be that you have a common name. The NICS system works off of partial matches in the database. For example, if you're Joe J. Jones II, and a Joe M. Jones Sr. has gotten in to trouble, that can trip the computer up. Social security numbers also work off of a partial match system. If you have more than 4 numbers in common with someone who did something bad, the computer can't make a decision and will defer to a human. Try putting or not putting your social on there to see if that helps. If you are always getting atleast a 24 hour delay, it's time to get a UPIN.
You can petition a military review of your discharge and may be able to have s dishonsrsble legally upgraded to honorable or even a less then honorable is better then dis honorable. I know because I had a less then honorable later upgraded to honorable after a review of my service record and manner of discharge. 54 echo is army
In regards to felony conviction.Question 11c seems to indicate that the felony or other crime that an individual is convicted of must carry a sentence of more than one year imprisonment as the maximum penalty.I've filled out hundreds of 4473 forms and honestly have never caught this very important stipulation.When filling out the form I just read as far as the word felony and know it doesn't apply to me so I check no.However I feel like it is important(if I am correct in my understanding of question 11c) to share this information with folks who have been convicted of felonies such as having fake auto insurance cards or other petty crimes which possibly wouldn't carry a long enough sentence to disqualify a person from firearm ownership.What is your understanding on this?
You have to look at the full sentence structure. Felony OR any other crime that could have resulted in more than a year in prison. So, even if it’s a misdemeanor technically, if it’s been elevated because of other circumstances and the maximum sentence could have been more than a year, technically they’re a prohibited person.
@@mia8890 you need to read the instructions on the form for the questions and answer accordingly. Typically if legally your conviction has been overturned or adjudicated in some fashion then a "no" is the proper answer to the felony question but YOU have to read the instructions and answer.

My understanding of the questions is that misdemeanors only matter if they’re pending and haven’t been sentenced (21.d on the new form) or if they’re domestic violence (21.k on the new form). Everything else SHOULD be ok

You can’t use a lease. It has to be a government document. A city utility bill would work as long as it’s a government owned utility like city of Dallas water or whatever. Vehicle registration also works.

If you’re shipping it to another FFL you just dispose of it to that FFL. Only the FFL responsible for transferring it to an individual is responsible for the 4473.

It honestly depends on the day. I’ve had some days where they’re all instant and other days where they all take 15-20 minutes. I’ve also had it be all over the place. I did another video when I got started about delays and denials and common reasons why that happens from my experience, watching it may help. I think it’s my most viewed video. Hello. In 2013, I was denied a FPIC and permit for handgun. The reason being, I saw a psychologist for personal issues. I did not understand question number 26 and check yes. I was never committed, admitted, or given medication for mental issues. But because i sellected yes. I was denied. I appealed through an attorney and was granted the permit. My concern is about the new disqualifier that New jersey has. Am I in the clear to get a ccw permit, or I may have issues?

Hi! I know this video is older, but I hope you can help me out! I live in CA, did two background checks 7days apart for 1shotgun and 1rifle, separate 4473's. Both were delayed about 7days after the submission of corresponding DROS. The only difference between the 4473 was that the second one I added my SSN. I purchased a handgun from the same big box store only a few months earlier without issue. 10day wait, and all good. I am concerned because thinking back to the line "birth place City & State" I mistakenly imput 'County & State'. Is this enough to get denied? Is it possible to get the personal ID in CA? Thanks, -CJ
California is an island and doesn’t operate like anywhere else. As for the city and state vs county and state…the dealer should have caught that BUT it was an honest mistake and shouldn’t in and of itself be grounds for denial. I’m not exactly sure how the 10-day wait in California works vs a delay when it comes to those dealers and the terminology they use. Best advice is work the process and get out to vote.

I was mistakenly answer wrong this question and got denied. “Do you intend to sell or dispose of any firearms) listed on this form or any continuation sheets) to any person described in questions 21(b)-(1) or to a person described in question 21.m.1 who does not fall within a nonimmigrant alien exception?” I put “yes” I know that is my fault but I did not mean it. I have no intention to sell or dispose any firearms to anyone. Is there a way to fix this? Please help me out. 🙄
That dealer just doesn’t move forward with the transaction and they may have a policy to prohibit future transactions. Go to another dealer and carefully read and answer the questions properly.

Bought a Ruger mini14 Rifle here in California had to wait 30 days for ffl to release it to me as i have a Felony Arrest, no conviction on my Rap sheet/ No disposition. Turns out Rifle was a Lemon had it sent back to Ruger ; now their sending Replacement with different serial number to my Ffl so have to go through the whole process of getting delayed getting the same ole letter about my name possibly being involved with a stolen gun and having to wait the whole 30 day to take possession

A lot of people in your position seem to think that just because the child is named Jr it automatically legally makes you a Sr. I'm not a man, obviously, but I would think that for it to be a legal "name change" something more would need to happen. Whenever I see a suffix that doesn't match the ID, I ask questions before submitting.
It’s covered in the instructions. You’d have to read the specifics and then answer accordingly. You can look up the 4473 online and read it before you decide to go in. Just know that you may still get denied and have to appeal - local jurisdictions don’t always close stuff out properly.
Apparently I made a mistake on it somewhere electronically on a iPad and so I tried again thinking I had everything right but then they said again I answered something wrong or something..and now I have to wait till the next day to do it again..any idead?
No clue. Study up on the form online? Everything has to match your ID and on the yes/no questions if you answer yes to anything but the first one that’s a no-go for the dealer unless you’re an alien and it’s one of the last couple but then just supplemental info is needed
You obviously answered one of the questions wrong. They don’t deny you for grammatical errors on your address which the dealer should pick up on and have you correct anyway
Over the years I have purchased several guns . Most all background checks are returned promptly . Only twice have I been delayed in 2014 and 2015. Both took 3 days. No big deal to me. But this current ATF Director is trying to keep people from getting guns.

If you got denied, you have to appeal it to find out why. Once denied, always denied. Get the NTN from the FFL and appeal it after you read read all of the instructions pertaining to non-citizens. It’s been a while but there’s something about hunting licenses or something in the case of some non-citizens.
Mr. Ayala like the gun shop owner stated once denied always denied. Chances are you probably won't be able to get a firearm and for your own legal safety it's best not to try to acquire any illegally cause you run the risk of going to prison for 10 years. And in firearm related crimes the convicted individual has to do the whole sentence no parole. You could look into crossbows, there's plenty of channels on the basic maintenance and safety of them.

It would be a semi-auto, you can’t buy a full auto except under very very special circumstances. 18-20yo are automatically delayed 3 business days and often extended to 10 business days on the delay. Big box stores don’t typically release unless they get a proceed. Just work the process and you’ll be fine.
Thanks to Joe Biden, and the safer streets act everyone under 21 gets auto delayed on all purchases of long guns. Usually it’s a minimum of three days. It could last up to a week, but depends on the person.
We have to verify specific information matches the ID, that's the address, likeness (photo), DOB. Should be able to put accurate weight and height, we do have to enter it for the background check.
I put out an updated video for the newest form. It should be linked in a pinned comment. City limits is basically determined by law enforcement response. If city comes come when you call it’s yes, if county cops come it’s no. It is ok to not know.
The 4473 is always required when purchasing through a licensed dealer. Even when you buy an NFA and you have an approved Form 4 you have to fill one out.

You’ll have to read the instructions of the form in their entirety and answer the question properly. I’m not sure how the process works for persons not born as US Citizens but just read the instructions and you’ll be fine

Do you guys not use gun store master? The 4473 should be digital and all this information should be automatically inserted. The only paper form you should have to fill out is if your state forces a DOJ form for pistols. my only concern is the second Yes/No question, I've noticed about 60% of people answer it wrong.
I prefer paper. I’m not a huge volume store and with how the ATF has been, if they want my records I don’t want to make it easy and have them all digital for them.
@@Gunner411 We don't give them any digital forms, every form is filled out on a tablet and then printed out. if the ATF wants to take our data they get the printed paper copies. its also easier though, we usually only have 3 employees in the front of the shop and its not unusual to have a line for background checks. just way faster to hand them a tablet and use bar code scanners for the Serial numbers. what you are saying does make sense though. Its especially not as much of a hassle if there isn't a line

You have to go through whatever the state process is to get your rights back. I’m not 100% on that process but they don’t just go away on their own. Did you actually get denied or did the dealer refuse to proceed because you said yes to the felony question?
This sounds more like you said yes to having been convicted of a felony and they didn’t move forward with the transaction than an actual denial. If you were actually denied there’s a transaction number and an appeals process.
Its downloadable but it must be filled out in the presence of the dealer by the purchaser. Also some use electronic forms so you may have to do it on a tablet.
You have to provide proof of your residency in the form of a government document that has to be verified by the FFL. If you’ve moved and not updated your government identification and don’t have a supplemental government document, you’re out of luck because a dealer can’t verify your information.

I never have filled one out . I have bunches of guns/ rifles Just gave a license And they did a background check and I got my stuff I’m 54 and this is news to me……. Are some states like this or I was supposed to do that . Bought at gun shops / box stores etc.
Academy 100% does the 4473. They may do it electronically. If you’re not providing all the information on the 4473 AND answering all the questions, signing, and dating (either paper or electronic) then they are doing something against the rules. There are no exemptions to the 4473 being completed. States can require extra stuff but not less.
@@Gunner411 all I know from others here in Oklahoma they just run your name in OSBI. And I think not for sure cause a long time ago If you filled out one it stays with you here. So no need for always doing just background. That’s what others have told me anyway But since 1983 haven’t signed anything or yes no questions

Muzzleloaders aren’t federally regulated by the ATF or considered to meet the legal definition of a firearm. I’m sure one of your local shops could source one for you. I know they’re available through some of my firearms distributors because some are more of a sporting goods distributor.
At the federal level a background check is only valid for 30 days. Also federally a dealer can release a firearm after 3 federal business days. So…depending on where you purchased from, up to 30 days. Big box stores don’t normally release after the brady date.
There’s an act called the Brady Act. It puts the responsibility on the federal government to conduct background checks in a timely manner. If a background check hasn’t received a proceed or a denial status after 3 federal business days that background becomes “open” and under federal law a dealer may, at their discretion, allow the individual to take possession of the firearm. Some states don’t allow it and some big box stores like Academy won’t allow a firearm out the door without a proceed status on a check.
@Gunner411 Ok so the situation I'm in right now , I'm in Wisconsin so hopefully that law is in effect here . I purchased a gun online got a FFl dealer and now waiting on the background check, I went this Friday so now that the weekend is over I'm still waiting on to see what the prosses is , my issue is that I purchased a gun a month ago from a local gun shop in my area in within 30 minutes the background check was complete with no issues, and it was a Saturday when that happened. so hopefully I get a response here soon , I'm running out of patience here .

It can be instant after the dealer keys in all the information. Sometimes it takes 15-30 minutes. Other times it delays and can take days…rarely a response never comes back.
@@digitalgods5568 yeah, that's pretty standard. I had one guy delay, get approved, but he didn't buy the gun. A month later he delayed, then DENIED. ATF went to have a talk with him, never did find out what was up there.
I answered a question wrong about is the gun for me or am I trying to buy it for someone else the guy at the counter was talking to me and I barely read the question and got the rest right but denied for 30 days he said because of that. Will I get in trouble and do I need to contact someone because it was an honest mistake and 3 other gun stores have denied me since.
If you answered that one no instead of yes, the background doesn’t even get ran. Ask each store for the NTN tied to your background check…if they did somehow officially run it, once denied always denied and you have to appeal them all. What state are you in? They may have some state requirement to report when somebody does what you did.
If you’re too stupid to know how to fill out the 4473 you’re too stupid to own a firearm. Period. That is the easiest form in the world to fill out. It’s literally Kindergarten school work

Hey there! I’m 19 years old and on Saturday (February 4,2023) I bought a semi-auto shotgun Charles Daly at a gun shop called “United Gun Shop” in Maryland. It was my very first time walking in to a gun shop and I was pretty nervous because I am Hispanic and seeing just white people makes me kinda nervous but they were really nice and helped me out. I have a clean record and currently waiting for a approval. The employee told me that he will give me a call or if I don’t hear from him then I can come back to the shop on February 9. I’m still nervous if somehow the background check comes denied.
They’re automatically delaying all people 18-20 right now. If you’ve got a clean background don’t worry about it. Just work the process.

So how do you answer the felony question.. had a felony 29 years ago the and the court reduced it 1203.4 we know that does nothing for gun rights the court found paperwork that I was innocent so the judge vacated immediately 1385pc vacated / and said all records to be destroyed……..

You have to read the instructions for that question and answer accordingly. California is always odd but I know in Texas that if somebody goes through what we call deferred adjudication and completes the process for a felony they’re allowed to buy a gun. The hitch will be whether or not the courts/jurisdiction actually did their paperwork and vacated the judgement.

So they vacated a misdemeanor and I have the paperwork stamped certified and I also mailed it to the FBI AND SOJ as well as the court did and the paperwork says all records and police records shall be destroyed.. I've filled out about a dozen 4473's over the past decade and had never been delayed or denied (besides my first purchase), but ever since Covid came around I can pretty much guarantee I'll be delayed (a day or so later I'll be approved). No legal issues that would disqualify me from purchasing a firearm in that time. I do have a fairly common name though. Could that be what is hanging me up?
It's possible that before you started having trouble somebody else with the same name got in to actual trouble and they're just taking the extra precaution of putting an agents eyes on your checks to ensure you're not that person.
If you're in a state that has a NICS exception for carry permits, I'd definitely recommend getting your carry permit.
It could be that you have a common name. The NICS system works off of partial matches in the database. For example, if you're Joe J. Jones II, and a Joe M. Jones Sr. has gotten in to trouble, that can trip the computer up.
Social security numbers also work off of a partial match system. If you have more than 4 numbers in common with someone who did something bad, the computer can't make a decision and will defer to a human.
Try putting or not putting your social on there to see if that helps.
If you are always getting atleast a 24 hour delay, it's time to get a UPIN.
Last but not least, always remember that the 4473 is an infringement and is unconstitutional

You can petition a military review of your discharge and may be able to have s dishonsrsble legally upgraded to honorable or even a less then honorable is better then dis honorable. I know because I had a less then honorable later upgraded to honorable after a review of my service record and manner of discharge. 54 echo is army
In regards to felony conviction.Question 11c seems to indicate that the felony or other crime that an individual is convicted of must carry a sentence of more than one year imprisonment as the maximum penalty.I've filled out hundreds of 4473 forms and honestly have never caught this very important stipulation.When filling out the form I just read as far as the word felony and know it doesn't apply to me so I check no.However I feel like it is important(if I am correct in my understanding of question 11c) to share this information with folks who have been convicted of felonies such as having fake auto insurance cards or other petty crimes which possibly wouldn't carry a long enough sentence to disqualify a person from firearm ownership.What is your understanding on this?
You have to look at the full sentence structure. Felony OR any other crime that could have resulted in more than a year in prison. So, even if it’s a misdemeanor technically, if it’s been elevated because of other circumstances and the maximum sentence could have been more than a year, technically they’re a prohibited person.

@@mia8890 you need to read the instructions on the form for the questions and answer accordingly. Typically if legally your conviction has been overturned or adjudicated in some fashion then a "no" is the proper answer to the felony question but YOU have to read the instructions and answer.
If you had a misdemeanor possession of marijuana 38 years ago does count against you on the form. Would that be a yes or no for drug use

My understanding of the questions is that misdemeanors only matter if they’re pending and haven’t been sentenced (21.d on the new form) or if they’re domestic violence (21.k on the new form). Everything else SHOULD be ok

You can’t use a lease. It has to be a government document. A city utility bill would work as long as it’s a government owned utility like city of Dallas water or whatever. Vehicle registration also works.

Not to my knowledge. Texas doesn’t even put weight on their licenses any more. Height doesn’t really change as you age until you’re much older.

If you’re shipping it to another FFL you just dispose of it to that FFL. Only the FFL responsible for transferring it to an individual is responsible for the 4473.
Hi, I know this video is older but hope you don't mind me asking a question. Every time I purchase a firearm through an FFL, my NICS check has never been denied, but usually wait around 30-45 minutes for an answer. My question is, how long does the background take most people in your experience?
It honestly depends on the day. I’ve had some days where they’re all instant and other days where they all take 15-20 minutes.
I’ve also had it be all over the place. I did another video when I got started about delays and denials and common reasons why that happens from my experience, watching it may help. I think it’s my most viewed video. It’s either 1 or 2 for sure, the other is a Cerakote video.

Hello. In 2013, I was denied a FPIC and permit for handgun. The reason being, I saw a psychologist for personal issues. I did not understand question number 26 and check yes. I was never committed, admitted, or given medication for mental issues. But because i sellected yes. I was denied. I appealed through an attorney and was granted the permit. My concern is about the new disqualifier that New jersey has. Am I in the clear to get a ccw permit, or I may have issues?

I live in CA, did two background checks 7days apart for 1shotgun and 1rifle, separate 4473's. Both were delayed about 7days after the submission of corresponding DROS. The only difference between the 4473 was that the second one I added my SSN.
I purchased a handgun from the same big box store only a few months earlier without issue. 10day wait, and all good.
I am concerned because thinking back to the line "birth place City & State" I mistakenly imput 'County & State'.
Is this enough to get denied?
Is it possible to get the personal ID in CA?

California is an island and doesn’t operate like anywhere else. As for the city and state vs county and state…the dealer should have caught that BUT it was an honest mistake and shouldn’t in and of itself be grounds for denial.
I’m not exactly sure how the 10-day wait in California works vs a delay when it comes to those dealers and the terminology they use.
Best advice is work the process and get out to vote.

Hello so I am a newly FFL holder and I’m watching videos to make sure I fill out my 4473 correct for a firearm transfer. Do you call the number on your FFL card to run the background check? I’m not sure on that aspect. For running the nics check. How do you do that?
Your IOI should have gone over all of that with you.
You have to register with NICS and you can either call in or use their online system.
Where are you located? You don’t want to try to do a 4473 until you’re sure you know what to do.

I know that is my fault but I did not mean it. I have no intention to sell or dispose any firearms to anyone. Is there a way to fix this? Please help me out. 🙄
That dealer just doesn’t move forward with the transaction and they may have a policy to prohibit future transactions. Go to another dealer and carefully read and answer the questions properly.

Bought a Ruger mini14 Rifle here in California had to wait 30 days for ffl to release it to me as i have a Felony Arrest, no conviction on my Rap sheet/ No disposition.
Turns out Rifle was a Lemon had it sent back to Ruger ; now their sending Replacement with different serial number to my Ffl so have to go through the whole process of getting delayed getting the same ole letter about my name possibly being involved with a stolen gun and having to wait the whole 30 day to take possession

The dealer shouldn’t have ran the check if it didn’t match your ID exactly. Wait and see what happens and work the process.

A lot of people in your position seem to think that just because the child is named Jr it automatically legally makes you a Sr. I'm not a man, obviously, but I would think that for it to be a legal "name change" something more would need to happen. Whenever I see a suffix that doesn't match the ID, I ask questions before submitting.

It’s covered in the instructions. You’d have to read the specifics and then answer accordingly. You can look up the 4473 online and read it before you decide to go in. Just know that you may still get denied and have to appeal - local jurisdictions don’t always close stuff out properly.

Apparently I made a mistake on it somewhere electronically on a iPad and so I tried again thinking I had everything right but then they said again I answered something wrong or something..and now I have to wait till the next day to do it again..any idead?
No clue. Study up on the form online? Everything has to match your ID and on the yes/no questions if you answer yes to anything but the first one that’s a no-go for the dealer unless you’re an alien and it’s one of the last couple but then just supplemental info is needed
You obviously answered one of the questions wrong. They don’t deny you for grammatical errors on your address which the dealer should pick up on and have you correct anyway
Over the years I have purchased several guns . Most all background checks are returned promptly . Only twice have I been delayed in 2014 and 2015. Both took 3 days. No big deal to me.
But this current ATF Director is trying to keep people from getting guns.

If you got denied, you have to appeal it to find out why. Once denied, always denied. Get the NTN from the FFL and appeal it after you read read all of the instructions pertaining to non-citizens. It’s been a while but there’s something about hunting licenses or something in the case of some non-citizens.
Mr. Ayala like the gun shop owner stated once denied always denied. Chances are you probably won't be able to get a firearm and for your own legal safety it's best not to try to acquire any illegally cause you run the risk of going to prison for 10 years. And in firearm related crimes the convicted individual has to do the whole sentence no parole.
You could look into crossbows, there's plenty of channels on the basic maintenance and safety of them.

It would be a semi-auto, you can’t buy a full auto except under very very special circumstances.
18-20yo are automatically delayed 3 business days and often extended to 10 business days on the delay.
Big box stores don’t typically release unless they get a proceed. Just work the process and you’ll be fine.

Thanks to Joe Biden, and the safer streets act everyone under 21 gets auto delayed on all purchases of long guns. Usually it’s a minimum of three days. It could last up to a week, but depends on the person.

We have to verify specific information matches the ID, that's the address, likeness (photo), DOB. Should be able to put accurate weight and height, we do have to enter it for the background check.

I put out an updated video for the newest form. It should be linked in a pinned comment. City limits is basically determined by law enforcement response. If city comes come when you call it’s yes, if county cops come it’s no. It is ok to not know.
When you have a license to carry do you still need to fill of this form
The 4473 is always required when purchasing through a licensed dealer. Even when you buy an NFA and you have an approved Form 4 you have to fill one out.

You’ll have to read the instructions of the form in their entirety and answer the question properly. I’m not sure how the process works for persons not born as US Citizens but just read the instructions and you’ll be fine

Passport are not a valid form for purchasing a firearm. If you were naturalized citizen, you should have a green card.
Do you guys not use gun store master? The 4473 should be digital and all this information should be automatically inserted. The only paper form you should have to fill out is if your state forces a DOJ form for pistols. my only concern is the second Yes/No question, I've noticed about 60% of people answer it wrong.
I prefer paper. I’m not a huge volume store and with how the ATF has been, if they want my records I don’t want to make it easy and have them all digital for them.
@@Gunner411 We don't give them any digital forms, every form is filled out on a tablet and then printed out. if the ATF wants to take our data they get the printed paper copies. its also easier though, we usually only have 3 employees in the front of the shop and its not unusual to have a line for background checks. just way faster to hand them a tablet and use bar code scanners for the Serial numbers. what you are saying does make sense though. Its especially not as much of a hassle if there isn't a line

You have to go through whatever the state process is to get your rights back. I’m not 100% on that process but they don’t just go away on their own.

No I went through the whole process. And I got denied academy said look 4273

This sounds more like you said yes to having been convicted of a felony and they didn’t move forward with the transaction than an actual denial.
If you were actually denied there’s a transaction number and an appeals process.

Its downloadable but it must be filled out in the presence of the dealer by the purchaser. Also some use electronic forms so you may have to do it on a tablet.

My license doesn’t have my weight on it. I believe my carry permit does. That’s not one of the must match/verify items, though so you’re good.
Height and weight are subjective and change all the time so if it’s off, it’s doesn’t disqualify you

You have to provide proof of your residency in the form of a government document that has to be verified by the FFL. If you’ve moved and not updated your government identification and don’t have a supplemental government document, you’re out of luck because a dealer can’t verify your information.

Academy 100% does the 4473. They may do it electronically. If you’re not providing all the information on the 4473 AND answering all the questions, signing, and dating (either paper or electronic) then they are doing something against the rules.
There are no exemptions to the 4473 being completed. States can require extra stuff but not less.

Muzzleloaders aren’t federally regulated by the ATF or considered to meet the legal definition of a firearm. I’m sure one of your local shops could source one for you. I know they’re available through some of my firearms distributors because some are more of a sporting goods distributor.

At the federal level a background check is only valid for 30 days. Also federally a dealer can release a firearm after 3 federal business days. So…depending on where you purchased from, up to 30 days. Big box stores don’t normally release after the brady date.

There’s an act called the Brady Act. It puts the responsibility on the federal government to conduct background checks in a timely manner. If a background check hasn’t received a proceed or a denial status after 3 federal business days that background becomes “open” and under federal law a dealer may, at their discretion, allow the individual to take possession of the firearm. Some states don’t allow it and some big box stores like Academy won’t allow a firearm out the door without a proceed status on a check.
@Gunner411 Ok so the situation I'm in right now , I'm in Wisconsin so hopefully that law is in effect here . I purchased a gun online got a FFl dealer and now waiting on the background check, I went this Friday so now that the weekend is over I'm still waiting on to see what the prosses is , my issue is that I purchased a gun a month ago from a local gun shop in my area in within 30 minutes the background check was complete with no issues, and it was a Saturday when that happened. so hopefully I get a response here soon , I'm running out of patience here .

How long does it take to process and get a response back for an approval
It can be instant after the dealer keys in all the information. Sometimes it takes 15-30 minutes. Other times it delays and can take days…rarely a response never comes back.
I have a green card and in my case (applying on a Saturday) my approval came on Monday.
@@digitalgods5568 yeah, that's pretty standard. I had one guy delay, get approved, but he didn't buy the gun. A month later he delayed, then DENIED. ATF went to have a talk with him, never did find out what was up there.
I answered a question wrong about is the gun for me or am I trying to buy it for someone else the guy at the counter was talking to me and I barely read the question and got the rest right but denied for 30 days he said because of that. Will I get in trouble and do I need to contact someone because it was an honest mistake and 3 other gun stores have denied me since.
If you answered that one no instead of yes, the background doesn’t even get ran. Ask each store for the NTN tied to your background check…if they did somehow officially run it, once denied always denied and you have to appeal them all. What state are you in? They may have some state requirement to report when somebody does what you did.
When it asks for city do I put the town i live in or the city I am in the county of?
Your legal address…whatever is on your government documents as your address.
