I read a interview with the engineer of the trax in S Korea. They already recognized concerns about the durability of 3 cylinder engine. So they tested this engine to 1.4 M km. In reality, no one can guarantee the longevity of this engine, but I hope this will remain good.

There is no reason a similarly sized compass is reaching $40,000. We need vehicles for people that are more affordable and entry level yet still nice and well appointed
This is a nice car and all but what concerns me is the 3cyl engine and the fact that it uses a wet belt for the overhead cams. This is a rubber belt that runs through the oil and if anyone is familiar with Fords 3cyl and how its wet belt degrades and gets caught in the oil pickup basically destroys the engine.
looking at the trax and a few other vehicles as options to replace my 12 / 13 year old honda fit.. I bought my wife a jeep cause she wanted a jeep, but I can't say I want another 600+ a month car payment so I'm looking at something in the low 30k range and down.
I think more and more people will be in the same boat. Also, with good gas mileage and this kind of price point, electric will have a harder and harder time really taking off in the USA as opposed to other countries
I've got the base model Trax on order to replace my 2007 Honda Fit, which is the best car I've ever owned--no mechanical problems in 16 years until my air conditioner gave out. I can purchase the Trax from a dealer in my small town, whereas the Honda came from a dealer 40 miles away. I'm 76, so I want a car that can be serviced locally. I am a bit concerned about the reliability of the Trax, but, at my age and situation, I don't expect to drive more than 4,000 miles a year. The Trax will be the first car I've owned that has automatic transmission.
I'm old enough to remember when an SUV like this would get 14mpg (so, not that old) and 30mpg is pretty impressive if you consider that. Also I think the arm rest issue could be solved with some $20 aftermarket cushions from amazon. Over all a very compelling vehicle with a lot of features that would have been considered luxury tier just a few years ago
We need to give it time to sell at that price. Right now its going to be msrp with a 5k markup. Look at the Maverick. Its hard to find one under 30k and they're supposed to start at 20k
I want to know how it runs over the passes here in Colorado. Maybe have Andrea run it through the Ike gauntlet (minus a trailer) just to get a real world report for those of us who live at altitude. I know turbos are the way to defeat altitude, but how does this tiny engine/turbo handle Colorado?
I have the activ and I love it I love that I can change they gauge too but I wish it would stay at what I choose it always reverts back to the factory gauge each time you stop and start. @@G-Rated nonsense. A 4cyl natural aspirated engine will last twice or maybe triple as long. Here in S.W. Missouri the LT trim level is $24,680 and the 2RS is $26,540 for the 2024, not sure if they offer a base LS trim like most chevy models have offered in the past.
Looks incredible. I just hope they are reliable long term. I also wish there were more build options. I love the look of the Activ on the exterior with the black wheels, but hate the interior. I like the RS interior, but don't like the exterior as much as the Activ with the body color grille. If I didn't buy a Blazer in October, 2 weeks before this was announced, I probably would have compromised on the size and save over $15k.
That's true but super inconvenient. Having said that, even having a set of 'snow tires' for winter helps a lot for FWD vehicles. A few decades ago AWD wasn't even a thing and FWD was all the rage and more than enough in snowy areas. In fact, that was considered a game changer. FWD is a huge step over RWD and AWD is an improvement over FWD for handling, but not that big of a jump as people tend to think
Around the 9-10 minute mark they are discussing and carrying on about no awd and proper snow or all weather tires will do wonders for a fwd vehicle, then they go and say if you want it or need awd there is the Trailblazer. Well maybe so, but the new Trax is so much better looking than that.
Andre doesn't feel penalized by being in a $25,000 car... Wait until the 37th month of ownership when the warranty expires.. The penalties begin with regular trips to the service department with starting costs at $500 a pop... GM cars look fantastic but historically lack in the durability department..
I would say it's the best-chance and most-reliable than any prior years in GM's history. It's made by (former) Daewoo Motors of South Korea, now GM Korea today. It's a Daewoo vehicle that imitates like the Japanese a little bit.
Not sure what the big deal is about AWD. Lots of vehicles have FWD and do just fine even up north plus when you have a blowout you don’t have to replace all four tires like you do on an AWD vehicle.
Not that different. I would guesstimate about 5% is all based on everything I have read on the subject. Theoretically, IF the engine lasts, it is lighter and less parts so the idea is the manufacturer can make them for a little less and pass savings onto the customer and get these kinds of prices
I like the vehicle. However, I’ve read in comments from other videos the engine may not be reliable especially once it hits the 100k mile mark. Hoping I can see a review about the car once someone has tested the reliability of the car once it hits the 100k mark to help see if the car holds up.
Doubt it. Chevy’s good at making good looking cars to hook you in but you never see Chevy cars for too long after release. Especially not for commuters. So that should tell you something. I mean remember the Chevy Cruze? Extinct now 😂
@@rogeliobarraza1772 I recenlty saw a Tik Tok video of a guy giving maintenance to the Trax. An electrical connector he shows is hanging lower than it should underneath the car right next to the oil filter. A drive over a bump or debris from the road could easily damage the connector. I definitely will not buy this car after that. That's an engineering design flaw for sure.
I think that you make too much of the fact that it is front wheel drive. I live in Wisconsin and I can count the number of times on one hand that I really need AWD. If it’s that bad you should stay home. Years ago we drove Camaro’s and Firebird’s in the winter and survived. I also don’t think that the rear seat vents are that great. My CRV has them and they really don’t make that much difference. Good review though.
GM's Small Turbocharged Engines Suffer From Loss of Performance in Winter Conditions Home > News > U-turn 28 Feb 2022, 10:49 UTC • By: Cristian Agatie Electric vehicle owners have often been affected by charging stations blockages known as “ICE-ing.” Now it seems ICE vehicles owners have icing problems of their own. In the case of those driving GM vehicles with a small turbocharged engine, this means reduced engine performance in winter conditions. According to GM TechLink, the intercooler (or charge air cooler or CAC as it is also known) of these vehicles will ice over when the temperatures fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 18 degrees Celsius). This means the airflow to the engine cylinders is restricted, resulting in power loss or throttle hesitation. In addition, this condition will trigger a series of diagnostic trouble codes related to intake air pressure, engine underboost, engine overboost, turbocharger boost sensor, engine misfire, and barometric pressure sensor. Fortunately, the conditions detailed above will only occur in the first 10 to 15 minutes after a cold start and will diminish after driving for some time. The intercooler icing is more likely to appear in vehicles with smaller engine displacements. These include 2018-2022 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with the 1.5-liter engine (LYX), 2020-2022 Buick Encore GX, and 2021-2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer models equipped with the 1.2-liter engine (LIH) or 1.3-liter engine (L3T) and 2016-2019 Chevrolet Cruze models equipped with the 1.4-liter engine (LE2). Although the problem should go away as the engine warms up, there are situations when this does not happen. In that case, the ice may build up on other components too, causing unpredictable behavior or even damage if left unchecked. According to GM TechLink, in the case of some 1.3-liter and 1.3-liter, this could lead to an increase in crankcase pressure, creating potential oil leaks at seals and gaskets. In addition, some 1.4-liter and 1.5-liter engines affected by intercooler icing may gather frozen oil/water contaminants in the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve. If that’s the case, the solenoid valve should be cleaned or replaced. A new ECM is also available to flash at dealer's service centers, enabling new transmission patterns in cold weather conditions.
It's always been affordable boss. Bout time they stepped it up though. Mother in law had a 2020 and it was horrid. The engine, the trans, the noise, and it felt like I was sitting on top of the front wheels

I bought a set of chains, only because you could be fined for not having them in your car. I never put them on. I did try studded front tires, but they were annoying and noisy and while they improved traction and braking, the trade-off wasn't worth the hassle of driving in town on dry and wet roads.
These things gonna sell like hotcakes 🥞
How about this: the lotus esprit turbo was the first car (supercar) that had 100 up per ltr. It was a 2 ltr with 200 hp. The problem was it badly held itself together back then now you can go 100000 miles .
I believe its the same engine that is in the trailblazer (i have one). It is very peppy. Hope its a bit quieter
I read US export cars are made in Changwon South Korea, it’s also produced at SAIC-GM in Shanghai. Can’t wait to see a buy American bumper sticker on one. 😂 It will be interesting to see how long the 3 cylinder turbos last.
That’s my question as well! I want the new Buick Envista that will release this summer, but I’m afraid the engine won’t last too long. I typically don’t change cars too often, I like to stay with the car for a while, but right now I don’t see any interesting car I wanna buy it. I don’t need a powerful car not even AWD and it’s basically just me in the car, so I don’t need space as well. And the Corolla Cross design is not as good looking as the Envista. But who knows how long this engine will last 😐
@@danieltani2474 The Envista does have a nice design👍. I’d probably just lease it for 36 months so any repairs wouldn’t be my problem. My little brother really likes BMW’s. I talked him into just leasing one every 3 years so he wouldn’t have to deal with maintenance. It’s not as pragmatic as buying a Toyota or Honda and driving it 10 years but ya only live once.😂
@@SunnynPhilly WOW! That’s actually a good idea! It’s ridiculous how this possibility never came to my mind because I always think about staying with the car for a long time, but I will consider it, because in the end I will have the possibility to just get a new one or buy the car and the price difference isn’t too much
@@danieltani2474 Expect about 200,000 mile engine lifespan, already tested by GM engineers.
I read a interview with the engineer of the trax in S Korea. They already recognized concerns about the durability of 3 cylinder engine. So they tested this engine to 1.4 M km. In reality, no one can guarantee the longevity of this engine, but I hope this will remain good.
Decision makers at Stellantis if you are reading and watching this please look at what Chevy is offering and take a look at your portfolio to see where improvements can be made. There is no reason a similarly sized compass is reaching $40,000. We need vehicles for people that are more affordable and entry level yet still nice and well appointed
It’s not only cost less, but actually looks great, inside and outside, that takes talent and effort to design.
Most front wheel drive cars do fine in snow with snow tires…..or even with decent all-season tires
Yep, I'd prefer FWD with snow tires rather than AWD with All Seasons!
Love the affordable vehicle coverage. Please make this a thing.
We need to give it time to sell at that price. Right now its going to be msrp with a 5k markup. Look at the Maverick. Its hard to find one under 30k and they're supposed to start at 20k
There's a lot of them where I live at msrp. Supply is a lot better now so I doubt it anyone will have to pay a mark up on these.
My local Ford dealer has never had a Maverick in stock. I am suspicious it doesn't really exist.

I have the activ and I love it I love that I can change they gauge too but I wish it would stay at what I choose it always reverts back to the factory gauge each time you stop and start. I'm also averaging 38.2mpg I had a 2020 and hated it traded that for a 2019 blazer and loved it and saw the new trax and decided that it looked much better......or not better but a smaller blazer.. idc about awd my blazer was and In 3 years never once used it so I saw no need for the awd..I always kept the blazer in 2wd my activ cost me about 31k when all said and done
a few new Trax owners have complained that the A/C does not come on during remote start operation.
Did you notice on your testing?
How much money to fix that turbo?
Considering it’s a brand new 2024 model, turbo replacement would be *$0* if it was to go out within 60k miles or 5 years, you troll.
@@G-Rated what about after warranty period? And the 3cyl engine and all that crap?
@@dommm111 It would be cheaper than replacing a naturally aspirated engine post warranty. Of course by that time (6-7 years) you’ve replaced the entire car with something else and it’s on it’s 2nd or 3rd owner. You’re just searching for room to *complain* because that’s just what y’all do.
@@G-Rated nonsense. A 4cyl natural aspirated engine will last twice or maybe triple as long. I have cars Chevy and Vag which never stepped foot in a shop the first 5-7 years (20-30k milles) and a '85 Fox body Mustang 5.0 that has not needed ANY repair in the last 5 years.
I'm not sorry, today's antifa BLM leftwing climate thing makes CRAP engines with zero reliability.

I just bought one if the reliability holds this is 100% a homerun for me.
I'm concerned about availability after what I've seen with the Maverick as well as reliability and power
Check out the Beijing x55 for the price and the features it is damn amazing. The base model screens are all the same when compared to the highest trim
You never gave price of opted out RS.

Are you sure Trax doesn't have Maps+ available in the Vehicles store? I think Waze may also be available in the Play Store?
Here in S.W. Missouri the LT trim level is $24,680 and the 2RS is $26,540 for the 2024, not sure if they offer a base LS trim like most chevy models have offered in the past.
For 2k more you can get a mazda CX-5. More vehicle for a little more. 2.5 NA engine with 187HP and all wheel drive standard.
Iove these two guys.
FwD with the right snow tires or chains will take you anywhere, 90% of the time
That's true but super inconvenient.
Decent price, but the reliability of GM's smaller 3 and 4 cylinder engines leave me really hesitant.
I would say it's the best-chance and most-reliable than any prior years in GM's history. It's made by (former) Daewoo Motors of South Korea, now GM Korea today. It's a Daewoo vehicle that imitates like the Japanese a little bit.
@@waltchan yeah it is made in korea which means it is far worse then anything out there! They are no where near as good as the Japanese or GM

Not sure what the big deal is about AWD. Lots of vehicles have FWD and do just fine even up north plus when you have a blowout you don’t have to replace all four tires like you do on an AWD vehicle.
It would work for me, the 2RS could use a power seat & the Activ a power liftgate. Once it gets close to 100K it's time to say goodbye.
Ive seen them in town much better looking now like a blazer
I can almost see these car boosting up in price by next year they are already going up to almost 30k.
You were close to me on this one!
Why do they just keep making all these vehicles bigger? The reason we like them is because of their small size. They're great little commuter cars
135hp!?
I didn't know GM was making a 3 cylinder. I wonder if the fuel economy wouldn't be much different with the 4 turbo
Not that different. I would guesstimate about 5% is all based on everything I have read on the subject. Theoretically, IF the engine lasts, it is lighter and less parts so the idea is the manufacturer can make them for a little less and pass savings onto the customer and get these kinds of prices
these 19” are the worst optional wheels for this car lol, the regular 18” looks far better
Wow, so going with the RS trim over base gets you.... Badges that say RS and not a ton else.... Compelling offer from GM.
Sweet pinky ring
Chevy should put this infotainment on Blazer 2024
Make it awd under 24k and it'll sell like the maverick.
If they could and make it profitable, I am sure they would, but they can't
noone mentioned the absence of analog dials for your radio tuner, just spamming the screen and staring at it, not good
The are buttons behind the steering wheel for volume and tuner.
More reviews from Kate please!
Chevy’s RS trim is rather misleading. But I guess that’s the point.
I want one.

I hope Chevy makes an EV version of this new Trax model.
If it looks like a lemon acts like a lemon it is a lemon
Once they hit stealerships, out the door price $45k, lol!!!
Really sucks no awd option. And 137hp 3cyl with turbo? No. And people think the 1.5l turbo at 170hp in the equinox is slow...
It needs 160hp with that tq.
Base price: $21k. Dealer markup: $8000. It’ll only be affordable when Chevy starts selling direct, and cut out the dealerships!

GM's Small Turbocharged Engines Suffer From Loss of Performance in Winter Conditions
Home > News > U-turn
28 Feb 2022, 10:49 UTC • By: Cristian Agatie
Electric vehicle owners have often been affected by charging stations blockages known as “ICE-ing.” Now it seems ICE vehicles owners have icing problems of their own.
