The million dollar question?...If you could only have one whitewater kayak what kayak would it be? My boys(20 and 21) and I(43)will be purchasing our first hardshell whitewater kayaks this winter or spring, and we are looking for the most versatile kayak to begin with, and we would be running a variety of different waters, but nothing too crazy until we get more experience. With that said, wev been paddling for many years, have many watercrafts(15), and have experience in class 2-3 Whitewater that we run in inflatables(AG Blackfoot 130, AG Navarros, AG Blackfoot SUP(LOTS of fun), and non whitewater hardshells(both SIt in and SOT), so we do have some experience, but definitely have alot more to learn. Any advice would be great, thanks Wade:) Im 5'9" 155, and my sons are 6' 145, and 6'3" 180.
I don’t think i would ever want to just have one but my list would be rEactR M as a creek/river running everything and hot whip or firecracker as half slice powerslide as a fast fun HalfSlice and nova as full slice
@WadeHarrison Oh I hear ya, it seems like the more I learn about Hardshell whitewater kayaking, and the more videos I watch, the more I realize that eventually more than one is needed..lol..We were all leaning towards the Reactr for our firsts, so your recommendation pretty much seals the deal on that for us:) Ill have to rewatch the reviews on the other recommendations, as I'm pretty sure we'll all have to have at least one more before long..lol..Thanks for taking the time to respond, it's very appreciated, and thank you for all of the amazing reviews you do for us all, you are truly a gem to soo many of us, and there truly is no better reviewer than you IMO:)
Yes that’s what I was saying I said that in the review but wasn’t recording 😂 it’s like a gnar bow but those deck lines just make it look so much better
Flow or Clutch? I paddle a rewind medium full time and want a bigger boat when the water is high on my local river and for spring time creeking. Tried the Flow and loved it. Does the clutch have that same ease to paddle?
Yo Wade! Saw you on the Upper G, such a fun run! I do a lot of stern squirting/stalling. At 6’0 210-215 I throw around my Firecracker 252 easy, can stall it no problem, etc. I don’t like creek boats because they’re usually too big (too much volume) and I creek in my 252. At my weight (and having some skill at squirting), is the Clutch a good option as a playful creeker?
If your not a fan of big creekers but want something that will take better care you over a true HalfSlice this is definitely the way to go in my opinion me personally I have a ReactR and firecracker I don’t have a place in my line up but it’s definitely a good choice for a lot of people
Feel like I have the Gnarvana for the security on the narley & Clutch does the rest other than playboating in my Rockstar. Thoughts? 3 boats to rule them all!
Hahah that would be a good line up but I feel after awhile you take the clutch over the Gnar I know I would I was very surprised how well this paddled down river
Kinda hard to compare to Antix I feel this falls in that spot where it’s not really a really good river running half slice where the Antix is more of a true short HalfSlice
I want to buy that boat and sell 45 years of age. Buying the boat probably won't be as difficult as selling the years since nobody wants to be old. I've now seen a video of Dane using it, and a video of someone who's not Dane but who is very good using it. Can't wait to see what someone who is a rank armature using it. Then I'll know pretty much everything there is to know about this boat. It does look quite delicious though.
Hey, hate to be that guy if you have answered this already, I currently have an Antix 2 in large, its an amazing boat but it gets outgunned in bigger water, I live around Boise Idaho so I have some awesome big water runs around here and I really want to get into them, I am just concerned that the Antix won't keep me from dying frankly, but I love how it runs a river so I don't want to get rid of it. Really what I want to know is can the clutch give me a lot of the same river running characteristics that I love about the Anitx AND be burly enough to handle North Fork Payette water?
@@WadeHarrison Good enough to be considered a creeker? Is this ones of those products in trying to be both it really is neither? As in its really neither a creeker, or a half-slice?
My advice is keep the antix 2 as your halfslice and get a reactr as your creeker river runner. Unless you just want one boat does it all type than go clutch.
Very different this has that big volume bow up there and the widest tail I have ever seen that just changes everything the SWEET is very narrow and more if a braap 2.0 in my opinion
Clutch is sized very well it’s like a true medium maybe slightly larger medium but not as big as you would think by looking at it and it’s hard to compare it to a actual HalfSlice like a antix firecracker rewind ect it’s definitely more of a sporty creeker with flat tail basically a party flow
tough call Ripper 2 L for me is more halfslice>creeker and Clutch is more creeker>Halfslice so really depends on what and where you're paddling and what you want to do personally if you have a creek boat and a halfslice like a rewind or ripper I don't think you will need this but if just want one kayak for everything this one is dam good
this is a one for everything type boat in my opinion so really if you have like good halfslice and good creeker no need really for this it bridges that gap between those unless you just want that one boat for like everything which is exactly what the steeze was that one kayak that really could do everything very good
Well on a scale 1-10 with 1 being super easy to stall vert and 10 almost impossible for normal paddlers. I give the clutch a 8.5 where the Antix firecracker hotwhip are all 2 or 3 nova mixmaster are all 1 and rewind rippers 5-6 and the ReactR Indra 9.5-10 if that makes sense 😂
"It's like the volume of a puffy steeze back there, but it stern squirts and stern stalls easier than the regular steeze" Wade please I don't need another kayak don't tell me these things
You made that UpperG your bitch!! Bad ass paddling. Much respect. If you were new to whitewater Kayaking and could only have 1 boat. What Jackson would that be? Sonething stable enough to learn in and gain confidence whilst nit getting board with it in the long run?
Oh this is a one boat type kayak yeah this would be up there like the steeze it’s like the one kayak that can be paddled and enjoy about anywhere but me personally I take a ReactR as my creeker and a firecracker or hot whip as my HalfSlice the clutch does feel a gap between the creek boat and half slice they nailed it on that
Hahah yeah Waka only one size steeze dagger one size phantom liquid logic one size powerslide i don’t see an issue at all with one size in a design like this from a business standpoint it’s a smart idea

You really worked the UG paddling w/ Stephen Wright. Quite a run. Very astute synopsis and replies to the questions/comments.
@@macfawlty thanks buddy and yeah paddling with Stephen and Mason always a blast
That in/out at 7:08 was slick...looks like it carves nicely.
dude that went way better then i thought
Flow or Clutch? I paddle a rewind medium full time and want a bigger boat when the water is high on my local river and for spring time creeking. Tried the Flow and loved it. Does the clutch have that same ease to paddle?
I take the clutch over the flow, and I take the ReactR and Fircracker 252 combo over both any day

I just got an Lrg Antix2 for river runner/play, on that same stretch of river would you prefer the Antix2 or Clutch?
Kinda hard to compare to Antix I feel this falls in that spot where it’s not really a really good river running half slice where the Antix is more of a true short HalfSlice
Would you call this a traditional half slice or something more like the new quarter slices? It looks more slcey to me
Kinda both really it’s not as slice as you think from looking at it definitely give it a demo if get a chance
How does it handle vs the flow ? Not taking stern squirts into the equation.
Very close actually u take this over the flow

@@WadeHarrison Good enough to be considered a creeker? Is this ones of those products in trying to be both it really is neither? As in its really neither a creeker, or a half-slice?
Thinking of getting rid of my Antix 2 and Scorch for either a Clutch or a Reactr….got a recommendation?
My advice is keep the antix 2 as your halfslice and get a reactr as your creeker river runner.
Unless you just want one boat does it all type than go clutch.
How does it compare to a ripper 1? I am thinking of replacing.
@@BrokeLucidMedia very different from that one and this is definitely more on the creek boat side of the ripper
Looks like such a fun run
Boat truly was a blast to paddle.
This type of content is going to have every manufacturer dropping their new boats during Gauley season.
Yes I have more coming 🤣
Looks like a double down on LLs “business up front, party round back” mantra. Looks awesome!
Heheh pretty much
You had me at " throwing the bow around"
It’s very light and easy to lift
How does it compare to the LL Sweetride? I know they aren't exactly aiming at the same market.
Very different this has that big volume bow up there and the widest tail I have ever seen that just changes everything the SWEET is very narrow and more if a braap 2.0 in my opinion
Ripper II or Clutch ? :)
Interested in that answer as well :)
tough call Ripper 2 L for me is more halfslice>creeker and Clutch is more creeker>Halfslice so really depends on what and where your paddling
Alright so :D Rewind or Clutch ^^
same the ripper 2 and rewinds are what I consider true halfslice kayaks
Ok, the Clutch vs Antix 2? Is the Clutch true to size?
Clutch is sized very well it’s like a true medium maybe slightly larger medium but not as big as you would think by looking at it and it’s hard to compare it to a actual HalfSlice like a antix firecracker rewind ect it’s definitely more of a sporty creeker with flat tail basically a party flow
Should I upgrade from my ripper large? Seems like this is more stable but a little slower?
If you were gonna upgrade from a ripper to a more creekable boat why not go ReactR?
@@beckettakins6198 still want to be able to get the stern down when I want
tough call Ripper 2 L for me is more halfslice>creeker and Clutch is more creeker>Halfslice so really depends on what and where you're paddling and what you want to do personally if you have a creek boat and a halfslice like a rewind or ripper I don't think you will need this but if just want one kayak for everything this one is dam good
@@WadeHarrison thanks! I guess to put it another way, what can the ripper 1 L do that this can’t? I
I think my Gnar (security binkie) might be getting retired for the Clutch. I always thought if I had a bow like the Gnar with a squished tail...
Yeah I take this over the gran anyday
This or the Indra if you have no interest in stern squirting?
I would take this over the Indra
@@WadeHarrison This or the reactor if you're not looking to stern squirt
That look amazing. Greets Norganic
Thank you! Cheers!
Hell yes man! Love those final thoughts. Exact reasons why I have an Antix, Flow and now a Clutch🤣🤘🏽wasn’t as big of a fan of the Gnar.
Like to get your thoughts when you get yours I was very impressed with this boat JK nailed it
Just when I think I don't need another kayak.
this is a one for everything type boat in my opinion so really if you have like good halfslice and good creeker no need really for this it bridges that gap between those unless you just want that one boat for like everything which is exactly what the steeze was that one kayak that really could do everything very good
Great review, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Where you boating it at
This is the upper gauley in West Virginia USA
Looks like you were able to squirt it and get vertical fairly easy. How hard for us regular paddles?
Well on a scale 1-10 with 1 being super easy to stall vert and 10 almost impossible for normal paddlers.
I give the clutch a 8.5 where the Antix firecracker hotwhip are all 2 or 3 nova mixmaster are all 1 and rewind rippers 5-6 and the ReactR Indra 9.5-10 if that makes sense 😂
Great question. After watching these guys I was under the impression this thing went down fairly easy but maybe not so much at 8.5.
@wadeharrison where would you rank the steeze and Goat in there?
Damn! Wade just sold me a Clutch..........
