Rudolph would have made a great romantic lead in the talking pictures...he had Italian blood in his veins and would have given Gable a run for his money.
For a recording of that era I don't think that's a bad one at all. His voice is clear. Modern recording pros can take away that surface noise, too. For somebody who wasn't training to sing in his career, I think he does great. Had he lived into the talking era and musicals, I think he would have done just fine.
The man had that it quality that very few had. You can try to describe it a million and one ways but when you see it it’s so simply and yet indescribable.
Some of the silent movie stars didn't speak English, and some spoke with very heavy accents. While others had voices that studio execs felt weren't right for films with sound. A lot of people were out of work for those very reasons. I can't imagine what that was like. That's Hollywood.
Difference between then and now. Still rather surprises me that there are absolutely no recorded interviews with Valentino. Hearing this beautiful voice it's clear that, at least from that perspective, the 'talkies' wouldn't have been an impediment to his career. Whether he could conventionally 'act' is less clear. But what a beautiful, expressive face!
Just incredible Rudolph Valentino, the little clip in the end with his voice for few seconds. I imagine him and his brother sounded familiar. Thank you for posting video
Yes, that is what I thought ... I am the youngest of three sisters & at times cannot tell their voices apart, if they leave a 'phone message or something like that ... we so want to hear him.
A compelling case of circumstantial evidence was introduced that may well stand up in a court of law ... however, I'm sitting on the fence on this one because I can refute or challenge some of the points raised ... the Valentino family vehemently refute the claim ... I guess we'll never really know ... but there are also claims and some evidence that he did sire a son, whose mother was of mixed race. This is in the early French language biography of Valentino written by Jean DeRequeville (not sure the spelling is correct). Valentino certainly left us many mysteries in his life that are utterly fascinating in themselves. Contradictions abound! I certainly part of the fun of being a Valentino fan.
@@ourrudy3209 Call me crazy but in my imagination that's why he had to leave Europe...maybe his family just wanted to hide the fact that a 17 year old impregnated someone. The boy was born eight months after he arrived in NY...
@@camarmena It's certainly a possibility ... I've heard even more colourful rumours than that about why Valentino left Italy .... being Jean's real father is actually less eyebrow raising than the other one's I've heard!
@@camarmena Rumours surfaced in Italy from a very old man (though still too young to have actually known Valentino) who came from the area Rudy lived before he left Italy ... that at the age of 17 he was cuckolding a gentleman with both his wife and his daughter - having an affair with both of them - the scandal of this caused such a blackening of his name that he would never find a wife of good name in his hometown. Valentino never admitted to such an affair - however in a press interview he did admit that he had fallen in love with ladies that were the age of his own mother and it had caused her much sorrow. He also admitted that at that age he had been a lothario and would not have been able to marry a good catholic girl because of his reputation at that time. The real reason he left Italy isn't known for sure but there seems to be some truth in the rumour that his reputation played a part in his having to leave - for the sake of the good name of his family.

I have read a couple of books about him and I think from what I have read, and watching videos , that he was modest, kind and sensitive with a great sense of humour. Such a great sadness that he did not live to go on to his full potential. I bet he would have gone in to directing. He seemed to like being at the other side of the camera too.
I guess it’s no surprise how queen mentioned Rudolph Valentino in their song good old-fashioned lover boy. I mean like they say the man could charm even back from the 20s.
For sure he had a VERY pleasant voice!!! He was an absolute ladies man and you can look as good as you want, if you have a voice like Mickey Mouse, then all sex appeal is immediately gone. Women do like men with deep pleasant voices...
I agree. I’ve always been curious about how we would know someone was really hot back in the days before we’d ever likely actually hear them speak. There’s a whole part of the appeal that only takes place in one’s imagination. It’s interesting to think about but I don’t think I’d crush on anyone without hearing their voice.
Oh my gosh! His nephew that is talking about getting gifts from America from him is his doppelganger! That is what he would have looked like had he gotten old.
An icon who sadly left us way too soon. Had he lived long enough to make it to the talkies, I feel confident his career would have soared higher than what it was when he died. Plus, it seems like he could carry a tune well!
The Kashmiri Love Song was his favorite song from what I read. He actually did take a few vocal lessons....His nephew looks a lot like him! There is a part of the (Kashmiri Love Song) UPDATE...meant "EL Relicario" ... in which he stops singing and reverts to a more spoken lyric...very short bit....One can only say that he did not have a high, thin speaking voice! I believe it was Gloria Swanson who said he had a lilt to his voice, that it was "Continental' but there was no heavy Italian accent....
Ah yes ... El Relicario .... it's so tantalising ... every now and again the sound of Valentino's speaking voice just pops up showing us that just about every part of him was perfect!
There's a big chance he had a similar voice as his brother. Someone said he had a slight Italian accent, but they thought he probably could have successfully switched to talkies. It would have been so ironic his real voice might have got him tough guys roles. I don't mean that to disrespect anyone. But Rudolph Valentino was described as likeable and I was thinking how ironic if he'd had a tough guy voice that got him type cast as tough guys once talkies began. I heard he was fond of children and that he babysat the movie crew's kids on one of his films why the crew went to dinner. I heard he worked hard and wanted to be a good actor. Valentino basically seems like a good guy from what I've read. I think he would have been getting the roles actors like Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino got in the 70's and 80's.
