This package sounds...well, outstanding! It was originally created for WLS in Chicago in 1980 by JAM in Dallas and was the second demo for “Outstanding” presented. The package didn’t sell very well at first, as Top 40 radio was in the doldrums in 1980-81. When WCAU-FM’s program director, Scott Walker opted to make some changes prior to September of 1982, they decided to update the jingles as well, selecting “Outstanding” to replace TM’s “Fusion” that was used when they’ve signed on in 1981. After they were put on the air, JAM received calls from programmers, requesting information on “that package that was done for WCAU-FM”. So, JAM recut the demo, using the WCAU-FM resings to send out to potential clients.
Their use on WCAU-FM were responsible for KIIS-FM/Los Angeles’s airing of “Outstanding”. Legend has it that then-KIIS program director, Garry Defransisco was visiting family in Philly and heard the jingles in use on WCAU-FM. One inquiry to JAM later, the package was on KIIS as well. Once that happened, more programmers began calling JAM, asking about “that package used on KIIS”. So, the “Outstanding” demo was recut again, using the KIIS-FM resings.
And that’s why there is 3 different demos for JAM’s “Outstanding”.

And get this for coincidences, the last jam package that would be used on 98.1, which is now WOGL, before they switched companies after so many years, they used outstanding in their last composite package.

WCZY 95.5 FM in Detroit used this package in 1984, both as Cozy FM (when they were evolving from Adult Contemporary into Top 40) and as Z95.5 when the changeover was complete that fall. Cut 28 was sung as "95.5, Cozy FM" and later as "Number one for fun - Z95.5!"
94.3/92.5 The Fox, a classic hits station in northern Michigan, still does use jingles from this package. It's a neat throwback.

These were okay. The original Fusion ones helped put the station on the map.

Thank you for posting this. I am a huge WCAU-FM fan from the early 80's. The date posted here for the jingle package is August 82 however these jingles do not sound like the ones I heard in 82. The sound is familiar but the singing is different and they sound sped up. Does anybody know the exact dates these were used. Philly forecast weather jingle is near 83's but still different. Thanks

WCAU-FM used TM's Fusion jingles from September 1981 until August/September 1982. Jam's Outstanding package was used from Late August or early September 1982, until summer 1983. I don't think every cut was used, and they did have a couple of these resung by Jam, if memory serves me.

I figured not all was used, but, yeah, a lot could have been used. Was that city sing redid for cut 20 though in production or what? Was expecting that. However, I was just picturing how these cuts would have been sung should 98.1 statyed with jam, or ever do decide to go back, and I do know, WOGL did use a couple of these cuts.
