Ok, most crochet tutorials I watch are pretty slow, and boring. This is the first entertaining crochet video I've seen! Your talented and funny!! Thanks for making making the instructions so simple, and entertaining at the same time!
This one single tutorial was even more explaining than the tutorials from my native language speakers, thanks a lot for the entertaining video, deserved subscribe 🙏
Loved this, but wanted to share something for those who measured wrong or at the end it's too small: Just add more rows!!! I did 20 ribs as she did and def was too small bc my yarn was thinner, so just add more until the measure it's okay! and for the long: I did 41cm, I think i'ts the best long for a balaclava. Thank you for the tutorial!! such nice vibes ♥
I don’t mind crochet ribbing, but for hats? I much prefer 2 front-post doubles, 2 back-post doubles. It creates a beautifully squishy rubbing that is also super stretchy and fast! Top-down, magic circle, 24 dc into the loop, next round: 3 dc into each dc, should have 72 dc at end of row. Next round: 3 chain as first fpdc of three, then 3 bpdc, then rotate to the end + another 24 rounds or u til desired length. It goes fast.
This is my first crochet project, it just took me a week to finish it. Thank you! Everything is greatly explained and getting to watch how you deal with the issues it's great!❤❤❤
I feel bad that i forgot to put in a clip of what the measurements are for this project. (i honestly didn't think so many people would be interested in it) But!! I did just upload a post on my community tap with a diagram of what it looks like laid out. As well as all the measurements for the parts. I hope this helps :) I also have the measurements listed in the video description.
End result looks great, well done! Balaclavas were very popular here in the UK for boys in the 1970's. They didn't cover any of the face, only head, neck and ears, same as original army headwear in Crimean War. The names have got muddled over the years but to me, technically it's a Ski Mask that you made!
Absolutely loved this tutorial. I enjoyed the way you took us through your trial and error process! The end result looks amazing! Thank you for such an easy to understand tutorial.
I had the same concept and I’m a visual learner and this was exactly how I imagined doing it and the video clarified it for me, thank you ☺️ my piece came out nice and made a great gift 🥰
MY GIRLFRIEND HAS BEEN ASKING FOR THIS AND IVE BEEN STRUGGLING! I’m so excited I can make this now confidently for her she’s going to be so excited thank youuuu 💃🏾💃🏾😭
this was great! i also thought i will figure out how to do this but i will definitly do how you did! and i´m not even a english speaker, i learned english in scool and i understand what you did! you speak very clearly. Thank you so much!
This is my first time crocheting and roughly the third video I came across and was actually getting great results ‼️ love this video and the way you break it all down
I'll start by saying that yes, I know this is an old video. I do have a note for anyone new watching though. When starting the "top half" (10:31) I recommend counting 20 stitches down and STARTING from there. I did the first "row" (rib) and noticed that the ribbed pattern got thrown off. So I pulled out the stitches and started 20 down and it's fine now. I hope that makes sense, I'm still new to crochet so I'm sorry if that didn't make much sense. Otherwise, I love this video and mine turned out great:)
Hello. I really like your balaclava and it was much better after you remade it, adding more rows to the top. I’m using your version of this to make one for my son, in black, and with eye lash yarn. ❤ Thank you for your tutorial. I love your style. 🎉
I looooove this video. One of the easiest tutorials to follow. I definitely measured wrong because mine is children’s size 😭 But this is my second crochet project and i’d say it’s a success. Thank you for posting this !
Hey love the video this is hopefully helpful: acrylic is not stretchier than wool. They are almost similar in the haptics. But the biggest difference is, that Acryl is made from polymers (oil) which is bad while producing and using. There are yarns of wool that are stretchy, look for a mixed composition with nylon or spandex. But it depends on the way the yarn is spun. Please if you can use less plastics I know they’re cheaper and more convenient but they will make you sweat and are really bad for the environment. Just imagine a plastic bag which you’re wearing.
I know it’s been done now but could you have decreased a few stitches when making the border of the hole which would of made it smaller but saying that it turning out great. Loved your tutorial definitely not boring and slow thanks
this is so cute!!! also i wanna ask if i can just do single crochet or half double crochet instead of BLO sc? will it still look good and which would be better?
I had to stop at 7:15 [in video] just to say. thank the heavens for you glorious one. You explained this soooooooooo perfectly. As a aries with a virgo rising♒♒♒♒....I tip my hat to you. This was....just magic! And the visual write up 👆 》》》■□○●□■☆ just wow. So grateful for you. Merry Christmas xoxo
hey i was just wondering if someone could tell me if the first bit we crochet is the front half and also called the bottom front in the description. i was just wondering for the dimensions as i used different wool (two different colours of slightly thinner wool) and also a different stitch (half double crochet) so it would be useful to have the measurements.
planning on making ghost's mask from mw2 and I've been struggling to find an easy enough tutorial for a balaclava, made a test one with a bunch of scrap yarn i had and I'm excited to buy some new yarn and make the mask ^-^
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! I really love your videos. Can you tell us how many yarn did you use? And also can you tell us the measurements of the pieces? Saludos desde México
Hi! I only used one ball of yarn. And the length of the hat is 16 inches long and 18 inches in diameter. I also have these measurements written in my description 😊
Mine is accidentally too long at the top and will look weird if I close it :( does anybody have an idea how I can fix this without opening everything and restarting?
I know this was made a year ago but I’ll still ask: something went wrong with the window part which I don’t really mind since it doesn’t look terrible once you’re wearing it but when I fold it the hole shows on my head and the folded part is really thick. *I was planning on cutting it but I’m not sure if it would mess the whole project up HELP!*
So how i like to count them is 2 rows of crocheting = 1 ribbing. So if the hat is 20 ribbings around then half of that would be 10. I hope that makes sense 😬 if not let me know!
Will 58 chains across be big enough for everyone's head? I just got 12 rows of SC in and wrapped it around my head, it won't got all the way around 😭😭😭
I did 10 chains of 58 and then I put it on my face, and it didn’t even cover half of it🥲 so I think maybe I’m doing it too tight, so maybe I need to do more than 58?)
I think its supposed to be vertical. You probably already know this but later in the video, she shows how it is supposed to look. I was a bit confused too XD
Hi! Is it possible that you got the measurements wrong? Or do you just have a tiny head/face? :) im trying to follow by the measurements in the caption and noticed that a total width of 41cm is a childs head, but then again im not sure if it stretches out?
Slip knot, 58ch, ch1 Sc into second ch from hook, sc entire length, ch 1 (Blo sc entire length) *40 (Blo sc 30 st, ch 1) *16 Fasten off yarn (Blo sc 20 st, ch1) *16 Sl st sides together, fasten off Running stitch along top, tighten and fasten off Sc along the face opening
Like some other comments say, Michelle's pattern wouldve made a really small balaclava, so I made my balaclava: Back part: 70 chains long, 48 rows for the ribs Bottom front: 38 chains, 20 rows Top front: 27 chains, 20 rows
I wished you explained the measurements of each part at least in inches so that the actual size matches because I used a different size of yarn and of course counting only the stitches wouldn’t work, I tried to make the math myself but it ended way to big, now I have to restart the whole thing 😢
I would think yes but you may have to change the width measurement due to the lack of stretch in cotton yarn. I am working on a cotton one as we speak and will let you know how it turned out!
hello i just found you. love this tutorial!! you are also super fuckin cute i have a crush. IF you ever want to try to make a double yarn (so it looks thicker) balaclava i would love to watch because i’ve been struggling and just dropped the idea. also have no clue if anyone has tried that before

I started and finished this yesterday with not even a full skeen of yarn! I love this tutorial
This is my first crochet project, it just took me a week to finish it. Thank you! Everything is greatly explained and getting to watch how you deal with the issues it's great!❤❤❤
Woah this video helped me so much in cracking the balaclava (super more helpful than any other video I've seen on it) thank youuuu !
Glad i can help 😊
how much yarn did you use

Where can we see the community tap?
If you go to my UA-cam channel page, at the top there should be a community tab you can click 😊
Hey friend, could I get those measurements? It's no longer on your community tab
End result looks great, well done!

I had the same concept and I’m a visual learner and this was exactly how I imagined doing it and the video clarified it for me, thank you ☺️ my piece came out nice and made a great gift 🥰
this is the best crochet tutorial i’ve ever seen super simple steps but not too much explaining perfectly made video and my bali is sick

This is what I call a project it’s good to see challenges and coming out with pretty piece❤ job well done!
You need to give yourself more credit, this was amazing. You have a new subscriber! I love your work and personality
I watched like 3 other tutorials before this one and honestly it was the best
It’s gonna be -20’C in Finland soon AGAIN so I really need to make this asap!! 🤣🫶🏻 Thank you for this pattern!

god i love your vibe so wholesome and you look like a casual supermodel and arent snotty.... im smitten
Dude, I wish I was crafty or had a crafty partner who would make me this. I want one exactly like this!!!!
just try do it yourself!
I love this hat. You're so creative 💓
Haha! Great video, your thinking of baclava (the dessert), vs balaclavas!
Haha you’re totally right!!
I actually really love this and want to make one for myself and possibly my family since they like to take walks in the winter!
I looooove this video. One of the easiest tutorials to follow. I definitely measured wrong because mine is children’s size 😭 But this is my second crochet project and i’d say it’s a success. Thank you for posting this !
Me too somehow. I did the same number of chains for the foundation chain and everything and it’s too small😭
This happened to me as well! What the heck!
Trial by error tutorial, but absolutely awesome job 👏🏾👍🏾
I really like this design/ pattern. Please make a video with clear instructions! I like that you just did this as you went but I can’t keep up
Thank you! This is great! Easiest tutorial. Making one for my husband's Christmas 🎄
First off, love the tutorial. Second you sound just like BEE from bee and puppycat!! I love it!’
Thank you so much! I really wanted to make one but i hate doing magic rings. I added bunny ears to mine, they look so good! Thank you!!!!
How did you add the bunny ears? Did you watch a tutorial? That's what I wanna do with mine, but I can't find any tutorials I really like!
@@ido7474 I watched MariaHeartsYarn tutorial "crochet bunny rabbit hat", I scaled up the ears and sew it the same way she did

Ready to join the EZLN 😎👍
Thanks for the tutorial
Even tho im not really into yours channel topic i really enjoy listening to you
thanks this really hid my face from the british forces when i was trowing molatovo cocktails at them
it's so cool, I want to do the same
If you did hdc or double crochets would this go faster?
I had a hard time figuring out how to add the border on the face part. Not sure how to start and attach the yarn
I know it’s been done now but could you have decreased a few stitches when making the border of the hole which would of made it smaller but saying that it turning out great. Loved your tutorial definitely not boring and slow thanks
You did an amazing job! I’m almost done with mine lol
So confused. I tried this 2x and it was sooo small. Trying to figure out how I went wrong
me too this is like my first time making a balaclava. Thought i was the only one. Just wasted a ton of yarn
this is so cute!!! also i wanna ask if i can just do single crochet or half double crochet instead of BLO sc? will it still look good and which would be better?
I couldn't concentrate on the balaclava because you are so beautiful...
Cheers.
Is it for every head size? :)
If I saw that right, The crochet sleeve on ur ice Capp is iconic 😌
Thank you 😊 i have crocheted so many of them lol
I had to stop at 7:15 [in video] just to say. thank the heavens for you glorious one. You explained this soooooooooo perfectly. As a aries with a virgo rising♒♒♒♒....I tip my hat to you. This was....just magic! And the visual write up 👆 》》》■□○●□■☆ just wow. So grateful for you. Merry Christmas xoxo
Balaclava is such a pretty word thoooo
How much yarn did you use?
You nailed it. Thank you.
Can't wait to try it this weekend, thank you so much! Do you remember how much yarn you used for this project? Thanks!!
So pretty ❤
Gonna try making this today
Hi i just wanna know how many grams of yarn is needed for this project? Thank u in advance.
also is there a written pattern for this?
oh pls i wanna know too cause the balaclava look so big, i don't really think i have enough yarn to do it TT
@@kookielover-495 i used 80-100 gramm of acrylic yarn, but i made it a lil bigger, with some rows more.
Girl I’m maki this as the video goes I’m almost done and just saw the changed at the up front part lol

Kinda late but it’s the back part
Can you tell me what yarn will be comfortable for this balaclava
i made it too long and i dont want to start again, do you think it will look good if i roll it up at the bottom???
planning on making ghost's mask from mw2 and I've been struggling to find an easy enough tutorial for a balaclava, made a test one with a bunch of scrap yarn i had and I'm excited to buy some new yarn and make the mask ^-^

My balaclava came out soooooo tiny, what did I do wrong?
Mine too! I think something is wrong in the tutorial
@@allison7066 oh man! Is yours short and narrow too?
@@chloegianna3837 yup! Mostly narrow though. Could barely fit it over my head or anyone else’s. Confused bc I followed each step exactly
@@allison7066 same! What size crochet hook did you use? I also used acrylic yarn like she used too.
5 mm hook, like she did. What about you?
How long did it takes?
How much yarn do I need?
Hello :) could you share some detail about the yarn you used please? Thank you so much!
really bummed bc i followed it exactly n mine is much shorter n smaller than yours, i don’t understand 😭
It all depends on the size of your yarn and how tightly/loosely you crochet.
@@michelle_jasek yeah i think my tension was too tight, im trying it again just adjusting the pattern a bit
Mine too :(
If I was going to make a half color version, for one color do I count the ribs as 10 or should I count it as 20
So how i like to count them is 2 rows of crocheting = 1 ribbing. So if the hat is 20 ribbings around then half of that would be 10. I hope that makes sense 😬 if not let me know!
Thank you 😊 awesome 👍🏾
Is the bottom/top half the same width as the first half ?
The are actually a little bit smaller width wise. I updated my description with the measurements. I hope this helps :)

I think its supposed to be vertical. You probably already know this but later in the video, she shows how it is supposed to look.

it looks like 21 across when i stop the video and count, im very confused
You’re so cute!!!💖!
Hey mine came out way to small
Mine too
Hi , can I please make it into like a bunny one, yes/no
love the tutorial! What weight of yarn did you use?
can i use 5ply milk cotton thread??

how many grams of yarn do you need
How many yarn balls are required to make it???? Plz tell me
i think round about 80-100 gramm of acrylic yarn.
Is it itchy ?
I guess it all depends on what yarn you use. I used acrylic yarn, and it doesn’t bother me.
How long is 58 chains?
Can this be done with cotton yarn ?
I would think yes but you may have to change the width measurement due to the lack of stretch in cotton yarn. I am working on a cotton one as we speak and will let you know how it turned out!
hello i just found you. love this tutorial!! you are also super fuckin cute i have a crush. IF you ever want to try to make a double yarn (so it looks thicker) balaclava i would love to watch because i’ve been struggling and just dropped the idea. also have no clue if anyone has tried that before
