If you can't save him, nobody could.

I think you did an amazing job! You gave this poor guy a good ending, he was safe an taken care of. At least he didn't die in that awful store.

It’s sad that the one died, but don’t be too hard on yourself. If you did everything you could then there is no reason to be disappointed with yourself. You can’t do better than your best. If you didn’t buy them they all would be dead.

Awwww, sorry you lost one. Did you guys do fecals? He might have also been harboring parasites? Either way, these snakes are so very lucky you took them and made their lives so much better. Great work Liam and Ellie!!!! Even if you lost one, you gained some experience that can make the next animal you help, their life better. ❤

a few of the Psammophis species occur in my area.
They generally do not do well in captivity. They stress way too easily. If you are not able to get them eating try offering frogs, it works like a charm.
If that doesnt work try feeding them small dor snakes, the genus is well known for eating snakes

you did your absolute best by these snakes that you didn't even seek out in the first place. 3:4 is actually quite astonishing in a good way. please do keep us updated on the trio!

Already thought so that the weight gains were simply dead weight (food inside, but not processed by its body due to the liver issue mentioned by you already)

well weirdly you could see it being put on as muscle along the back either side of the spine. Must have given out after that point

Why this particular species? Egypt is a bit of a wild place, I don't imagine extremely high standards for wild collection there. What is the survival rate of wild snakes?

Moral of the story: don't buy wildcaught snakes that have to be shipped internationally
