    Love the videos! Been binge watching all of them and fixing all my former neglectful care!
    Could you by chance do a video on senior bearded dragon care? I have a 15 year old bearded dragon who is losing muscle and slowing down significantly and the vet recommended dulling down her enclosure to just paper towels and very plain, almost bare decor to help her navigate better and reduce falls. Do you have any experience with older beardies? If so, any at all is appreciated ☺️

    Hey Liam! Do you remember my comment on your last video where I said my beardie went undiagnosed with coccidia and then was in a semi-brumation state for 9 months? Well, literally a day or two after that comment, he started coming good! He is now a totally wild little menace! He is more lively now than he ever was.
    Also, after watching this video I have a feeling it wasn't even brumation. I think it might have been estivation! It was in the middle of summer, only a week after Christmas in Australia that he started acting weird, not moving from where he had slept to get up and bask, and not so interested in food and whatnot. But for 9 months he was like that. He went from summer, all the way through winter and then only just came out of it once spring sprung.
    Thank you so much for all your videos. I follow your advice and watch all your videos religiously. You've been a great help in honing my bearded dragon husbandry skills. From both me and my partner, thank you so much.

      Yeah i do remember im glad that got sorted! One of the main thing i suggest is that if a bearded dragon is in that deep sleep during the summer somethings off and its always best to get it checked out by a vet.

    • @intensecutn
      @intensecutn 13 днів тому

      @@ReptilesandResearch Yeah, weirdly enough when I took him to the exotic vet earlier in his lethargic stage she didn't even suggest that it could have been estivation or even brumation. She just said he still looked healthy.
      Sometimes, especially since learning so much from your videos, I question her knowledge when it comes to bearded dragon husbandry. And then there's the situation where I literally saw the Coccidia under my microscope and then I took him to the vet for his first check-up and he had a fecal exam, but she didn't mention anything about coccidia. I just wrongly assumed that there must have been a 'safe' level of coccidia similar to pinworms, which I have since learned isn't the case. That's why he went so long being undiagnosed.
      I think I need to find a new exotic vet.

    You. Are. Amazing. Thank you for your work! I am thinking of owning a Beardie and would really like inform myself on the topic, since I would like to provide best care and conditions possible. I have been checking different channels and forums for a year or so, and you are the best source of information, hands down. Really hope that your channel gets to more viewers. Keep up the good work!

    Another good one Liam. I like the recommendation of the EXO-Terra Intense basking spot. It has a great and wide even spread of IRA that I have even verified myself with solarmeter. I recently switched it out though and trying out the Reptile Systems Eco-Halogen Lamp and so far I light it even better. The output on a 75W was is more than the 150W EXO-Terra I had so I am saving some $$ on utilities, but at the same time providing good quality IRA aka "heat" You try them out yet?

    • @ReptilesandResearch
      @ReptilesandResearch  15 днів тому

      Ive not tried them yet but i will do. The reason i recommended the exo terra 100w was to achieve 300w/m2 of ira at 9 inches away to pair it with the UVB.

    Awesome info. Thanks for sharing it. I do have one question: At what age do they start brumating?

    • @ReptilesandResearch
      @ReptilesandResearch  15 днів тому +1

      normally about a year old BUT they would brumate as babies in the wild, they would experience a winter within their first year nomatter what. By doing the 6 hours lighting youll either see a baby start sleeping or they wont and you can leave it at 12 hours. Makes it so much easier! Hence the title lol

      @jeffreymagni1272 15 днів тому

      @ReptilesandResearch Interesting. Just a thought...You were interviewing Ron Howard sometime, and he was mentioning how BD grow too fast in captivity, no doubt due to diet, but I wonder how much brumation.. or the fact we don't brumate babies and keep them "turned on" that first year is a factor?

    Loving your videos! I have a 6 month old (first beardie) so learning lots still. Can any wood from outdoors (UK) be used in the viv? I have one large piece already I got from my local reptile store that has apparently been 'treated', but I want to add more

      @ReptilesandResearch  13 днів тому

      Yes you can! Basically try and avoid sappy woods like pines and make sure its not toxic and you are fine

    Hi! Thank you so much for this informative video! We have two young bearded dragons in 40 gallon tanks. We purchased the Petsmart preassembled tanks that you mentioned. However, we did buy a UVAUVB mercury vapor light and a basking light. However, these sit on top of the tank and as you mentioned, this will block much of that light. I am finding that their basking spot is only saying at 95°F. How do I mount the lights you’re suggesting to the top of the tank? I looked at your Amazon shop and I wasn’t sure which ones to use for the 40 gallon tank. Do I screw these into the metal of the tank lid? Or do I need to buy some sort of alternative top for the tank? Thank you for any help. We love our verities and want to make sure they’re getting the best quality light!

    So appreciative of this video. I just made a viv for my dragon, but ive spent loads on the build, right when im about to move him in, ive ruined it. I used G4 pond seal ( clear ) to make it hygienic for cleaning but it smells like chemicals. Please can some give me some advice about this? I feel like i cant move him in, in case i poison him

    • @ReptilesandResearch
      @ReptilesandResearch  15 днів тому

      Ive only used G4 once and that was on a big waterfall display. the fumes are carcinogenic if i remember rightly. Just give it some time to gas off and if it doesnt then it might be a bad idea to use the tank.

    What is your opinion on Arcadia Earth-Pro A as a go-to? Is that not a multivitamin? Does it contain fat-soluble vitamins?

    • @ReptilesandResearch
      @ReptilesandResearch  15 днів тому

      i think theres a single 40g lid that you can buy and put on thats 35% blockage.

    • @jeffreymagni1272
      @jeffreymagni1272 14 днів тому

      @joshuacooper5224 In a bind, I used the thrive enclosure for a hatchling the first few months while I set up his forever home. I used an Arcadia shadedweller fixture that I had around, but I replaced the bulb with a zoomed 10.0. Next to that I did a double dome with a 75w exo terra intense basking and a sensi led spot. I verified uvb with solarmeter 6.5 and was getting adequate readings. I forget how close the basking was to the light, but I probably had 3 inches of substrate and another two inches of slate piled on the basking and some small branches so I was probably 9 to 10 inches from the lamp. I didn't like that screen though because the animal could jump up and grab onto it and "walk on the ceiling" this allowed him to get too close to the uvb. Glad I'm not using that setup anymore.

    Hi. What are your thoughts on feeding probugs from repashy?

  • @bethhudler4811
    @bethhudler4811 9 днів тому

    I have the exact UVB bulb and hood you recommend, the ReptiSunT5 10.0 24W with the 24” ZooMed fixture. I installed it inside my EcoFlex enclosure at 9” from the basking area. My bearded dragon stared at the light and hid from it the rest of the day. It was on top of the enclosure before I found your video but he wasn’t getting enough of it because he had some undigested foods. Any advice? Keep trying?

    • @ReptilesandResearch
      @ReptilesandResearch  8 днів тому +1

      undigested food wont be to do with UVB but rather the heat lamp allowing it to warm up and digest. What kind of food was it? bits of insect shell?

    • @bethhudler4811
      @bethhudler4811 8 днів тому

      @@ReptilesandResearch Oh okay! It’s getting cooler here and the temps in the house are dropping slightly so it makes sense that the temps in the enclosure have been going down some too. They have been within normal range but they have been on the low end of normal. And it’s been his vegetables, some squash and greens (very tiny amounts, I could just see some orange chunks and knew it was his food of the day). I will get a ceramic lamp to go along with his basking lamp. I will keep an eye on him since I moved his UVB light. It could just be that he sees it more now and is hesitant of it.
