the audio of this video? i'm not sure. i scanned the tape and that was how it came out. there's also a bit of visual static from this point forward, i think the two are linked - the audio comes straight from the tape, and i think there was a problem with the tape as a whole rather than just the video track or just the audio track. i used a TDK brand tape i had been given as a gift, after shooting all my previous work exclusively on maxell tapes, i'm thinking the brand had something to do with it. usually i scan my tapes using an av to usb converter straight from my camera, but the tape wouldn't play back correctly at all in my camera, so what you see in this video is a professionally done scan by a place in halifax called the centre for art tapes, who have much better equipment than i do. anytime in the music video you see crazy static lines across the screen, that's my scan, and anything clean comes from CFAT. just weird glitchy analogue fuckups that are far too common w stuff like this - the joys of being lofi
@@malcolmmacmaster Cool, I think it was a happy accident, even though it might have been a pain to deal with. I really like the crazy static :) I don't know if this happens for other people, but at around 2:25 in the music video, the video briefly freezes, before resuming with noticably louder audio, and then going back to normal about a minute later. It only happens half or 2 thirds of the times I watch the video. Super cool I think :) Also, thank you so much for in-depth response
@@illchangemyfriend yeah i have no idea about the music video glitch. if it's only happening half the time you watch the video it's def not part of the actual video. glad u enjoy it when it happens tho lol
@@malcolmmacmaster I think it's in part caused by the video though, it happens at the spot you mentioned as the tape malfunctioning, and happens to no other video on youtube. So yea, cool and mysterious
I was tripped out cause the dude already looks so much like me, and then he draws it. Which is something I do all the time. I have it tattoo’d on my chest. As soon as he drew the spikes on top I knew lol, though I draw it better. Maybe that’s my long lost brother. Stay brown, mang.
obsessed over this song and video, great work, very talented people
Awesome outtakes. As someone who grew up using analog video, your work evokes such intense feelings of nostalgia for me.
8:16 the real star of the show
Guys, you have great tracks and you sing great. It's really cool to see the backstage. Good luck to you
Excellent work Malcolm, I watch this music video every day!
I love the video. The video combined with pictures (in sync with music) makes me happy. Overall such a vibe, thank you.
