2022 HOW I MIX MY PAINTS FOR ALL PEARL CELL TECHNIQUES- 2020/2021 Artist Loft Paint
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лис 2024
- Hello everyone! In todays acrylic pour tutorial I will be showing you how I mix my paints for the pearl cell technique. If you have tried this technique lately with the 2020 or 2021 Artist Loft White Soft Body paint you have found the results of pearl pours less than satisfying. Well I have been experimenting and thanks to Michelle Galli at Grateful Creations and Sara Taylor's efforts to get this right, I think I have come up with a pearl cell that I really like and am proud of. I have done extensive experimenting in the past and this was no different. I changed the recipe 35-40 times with different ratios and I really like the solution. So in this video I will show you the results of those findings as well as show you a tutorial on how I now mix my paints. I hope you enjoy this video. As always, please let me know if you are enjoying this technique, if you have any suggestion of what you want to see or have any questions. I do read every comment and answer each and every question. Please enjoy!

Thanks to Michelle Galli @gratefulcreations & @SaraTaylor for helping me with this recipe and for all their hard work to get this formula to work!
Colored Pearl Recipe:
2 parts Behr Satin Enamel Deep Base 7300 (Home Depot)
3 parts US Floetrol
2 parts tube paint or .5 part fluid paint (to tint)
1 part Golden GAC 800 or 1.5 Golden Gloss Color Pouring Medium
1/2 part Liquitex Pouring Medium Gloss
Water to thin (approx 3.5-4 parts depending on Behr satin enamel ratios)
White Pearl Cell Recipe:
2 Pts Behr Premium Plus Deep Base 7300 (Home Depot)
3 Parts US Floetrol
1/2 part Artist Loft Soft Body Paint 2020/2021 Version (Michael’s)
1/2 part Apple Barrel White (Walmart or Amazon)
1/2 part Liquitex Basics Titanium White
1 Part GAC 800 or (1.5 Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss-omit Liquitex Pouring Medium)
1/2 part Liquitex Pouring Medium Gloss
Water to thin (approx 3.5-4 pts)
No silicone used for cells. It was all the layering of the paints that made those cool effects.

Finally someone had the heart to help us all with the amount of water needed. Tara you're an angel. Thank you so much
You are very welcome Rhonda! I know I was confused at first too and had to just figure it out in my own which was quite frustrating so I am happy to pass on that KEY ingredient measurement! I will say…the water ratios do very some BUT it does give u a better idea of consistency if u have a rough measurement. I’m so glad u found it helpful! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you! You have THE clearest, most comprehensive explanation of mix and demonstration I've seen. You're the best!
Aww! Thank you so much Bri! That makes me so happy to hear. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thanks so much for going ove4r your recipe. I have been doing pour painting since 2q017 but then moved to resin paintings until recently after watching Sara Taylor do her pearl paintings. I fell in love with it. I've done bloom paintings as well. So I mixed some white pearl base and colored bases as well. I loved how my painting came out, but wow, I made way too much base paint, so now I have a couple of jjars ofr phaylo green and purple and a bottle of white. in this vid you gave smaller amounts! I went through a whole two tubes ofr Amsterdam paint to make thosee base paints!! lols I'm going to try your recipe for this the next time I make base pearl colors and white. thank you! 😍
That’s awesome! I hope you have success! Thanks for watching and keep me posted! ☺️
So beautiful art work lovely sharing.. Your skill has own level of creativity great sharing keep it up friend 😱❤️👌👏👏👏
Thank you so much Amir! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Oh my Tara. I am going to try again. Thanks for all the great information and for your kindness in sharing.
Thanks Betina! I am super happy to share my results! If u have any questions let me know!
Wonderful presentation. Thanks for showing us your techniques. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Thank you Gasper! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you Tara! Can you please tell me recipe of paint, how doo mix it for this white?
All of the recipes are listed in the description box under the video.
I love how clearly you show the differences of results between the different recipes. It is SO helpful!
Thanks so much Sandra! It was A LOT of experimenting! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and explanation of the different white paints. I’ve been struggling with pearl painting for one year and Although I have learned a lot, I have not been told about why to use the artist loft and the apple barrel. I appreciate the time and energy it took for you to test and then share your knowledge. You are a generous person and your videos are wonderful. Your paintings are absolutely stunning!
Thank you so much Sage! I really appreciate your kind words and for your support! If u ever have any question please let me know! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you so much for your perseverance in these experiments ….and for generously sharing your best result with ALL of us . We look forward to watching the fruits of your labour grow and develop !! Thanks!
Thanks Shelley! I appreciate the confidence! I will always share whatever I learn. I appreciate when others do it so I try to do it as much as I can.❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you, Tara for so much information! Most people don’t go into so much detail as you did. And I love when you say ounces instead of parts so much easier. Thank you so much for your information and your generosity!
You are so welcome Carla! I’m glad you enjoyed it! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Wow you went into such detail and I can’t thank you enough for sharing this kind of information. Plus all your testing and time you put into this. Can’t thank you enough. Your such a heart warming person. Great personality! Love watching you and your art and all your help.
Wow…thank you so much Juanita. I’m so glad you found this info helpful. And thank you for all those kind words about me. I really appreciate it and I appreciate your support! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Watching now but had to comment how cute is that hat ❤ Us Wisconsin girls have to stay warm and look fashionable at the same time.
LOL Doris!! You are so funny...it was really cold the other day as you know and it gets super cold in my studio with the heaters off. Also, to be honest...I didn't want to do my hair..🤣
Ok I absolutely love how you explained everything in such detail. I'm definitely saving this video to refer back to. Thank you, thank you Tara. You're the best!! Stay warm 🤗
Aww. Thanks Doris! Ur so sweet! I’m so glad u found it helpful. ❤️❤️❤️
I so appreciate you explaining your different mixing techniques. I have been struggling with even getting cells. I see lots of practice and experimenting has helped you find your favorite combinations.
Thanks Marlene. It’s a lot of experimentation but well worth it! Lots and lots of fun!! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Awwwww thank you so much Tara....happy new year 🎉 🎉🎊🥰❤
Thanks Camile! I hope this is helpful!❤️
Thank you for this video Tara. I'm looking at all my options for pearl Painting and I love you experimenting!!! You saved me alot of time w this!! I'm a big apple barrel user for my pearl paintings and now I understand alil better from ur explanation of ur experiment why I'm liking the apple barrel.
Thanks Brenda! I really appreciate your kind feedback! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you so much for this tutorial.
I Learned a lot ! Love your work👍
Thank you so much! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
You went through so much trouble testing them and so generous of you to share your findings with us. THANK YOU.
You are so welcome Kian!😌
Just wanted to say thank you again for this updated paint mixing tutorial and all the experimentation and work that went into it! I just used the new recipe and had great success! I'm so happy with the colored pearls in the pour I just did and they didn't eat up the whole dutch pour this time! Happy dance!! 💃😀❤️ It's still drying, but I can tell the design will hold this time!!! Thank you Tara! 🤗
Oh good! I’m so happy that you had success!!! Woohoo! ❤️
First time at your channel Tara. I have been very interested in learning this process. After watching Tomoko, who gave you so much praise (I completely understand why now that I have watched you). I have never quite understood the process until now, you are an accomplished instructor, very versed in your topic, and quite easy to follow. I completely understand but I know I have a lot of work ahead of me. The only product I don’t have is the Apple Barrel white paint. Thank you for being so selfless in sharing all your hard work and knowledge. Sincerely
Thank you so much Consuelo! You are so kind. I love to share what I have learned with others. It took me a bit to understand it all and get it down…you will get there too! If you ever have any questions please let me know! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thank you for all the time you took and expense of product to share this with us. I appreciate it! I have had no luck with pearl cells so I’m excited to try this.💕
I really hope it works out for you! Keep me posted or if you have any questions! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you for sharing your recipes. I can’t wait to try it.
You are very welcome Cristina! I’d love to see how it goes for you. You can email me pics or questions you may have! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Hey Tara,
Great video! Very informative and thank you for sharing all your work and experimentation! 🙏🏻💕
Thanks Lance! Always happy to share! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Great video! I agree I like my pearls less puffy, so I will definitely try this formula with the LB titanium white. Thanks 🙏 ❤️
Thanks Tina…yea I’m just not a fan of how reactive those paints are too. I think it needed a better quality paint to stabilize it a little. I’ll be excited to see how it works for you. ☺️❤️
Thank you so much Tara for all your hard work and experimenting to make this process so much easier for us to "TRY" to replicate!❤️I am going to give this recipe a try...making a Home Depot run tomorrow! Hugs from Hollywood...stay warm...be stay safe!!!
Thanks Donna. When u try the recipe use only 1/2 part Liquitex Titanium White to start. I’ve noticed that different paints react differently with the pearl mix. I think that is good place to start instead of 1 part of the Liquitex titanium White. Let me know if u have any questions! I have adjusted that recipe in the description box. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you so much for this detailed video!
You are very welcome Anjali!
One of fav artists swears on your cloud pours❤So I’m here to learn😊❤
I’m so happy you are here. I hope you mean pearl pours though because I’m not very good at cloud pours. 😬☺️

Tara I can not tell you how many times I refer back to this video! It is by far the most helpful Pearl recipe video, I’ve ever seen! Also, I’m coming to Dallas and I’m SOO EXCITED to be taking 2-3 of your classes!! I’m going to be Garricks helper throughout the other times so I’m super excited for both! Can’t wait to thank you in person for all you’ve done to help me!! See ya soon!! 🤗

Hi Tara. I love this video. It is so helpful especially showing how each pearl is created. I think everyone has their own personal pearl form that they like. I personally like all of them I think they all have character. Thank you so much for all of this research I know it takes a lot of time and a lot of products and I’m so grateful it truly helps to be able to just practice the technique and not have to worry about the formula so big hugs and thanks to you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Lori! You are such a doll. To be honest…these kinds of things drive me nuts until I get them worked out so I’m happy to share anything I find out! Thanks for watching and your supporting means so much to me! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Thanks Tara for the recipe work! Very helpful.
Your very welcome! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Thank you Tara, great experiments
Your welcome Sherry! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your detailed results and insights! Such generosity!Your efforts for transparency are greatly appreciated - water for consistency is a key ingredient!!! Appreciate the commentary but also the effective camera work that captured it.The difference between "it must be thin enough by now?!," and "finally thin enough" was so well captured by holding the stick even closer to the surface.Btw have you tried any other Apple Barrel Whites? I have heard that only the matte white works. Again, thank you for being so open and generous with the results of your experiments!
You are very welcome Susan. I’m always happy to share what I have come up with. As far as the apple barrel whites…I haven’t tried any other of their whites. I can’t really speculate on if they will work or not…every time I do I’m way wrong…lol. ❤️
Tara, Thank you so much for sharing this. I had heard that Sara & Michelle had been trying to fix this darned new Artist Loft Soft body Acrylic and using the Apple Barrel with it may be the solution. Happily, I have all those ingredients here in my studio, so, I'll be trying YOUR recipe a bit later. My favorite technique has been Cloud/Pearl pours and I thought I had really come a long way with them until that new Artist Loft debacle. (I do like the puffy pearls, but don't like the pearls to totally take over my entire painting) Again, thanks for sharing and I love watching and learning from your videos. Much Love.......
Aww…Thanks Bonnie! If u are finding u are getting too many just dial back the artist loft and apple barrel to 1/4 parts each but I think ur gonna like this recipe…I hope u have success! If
Thank you for this video - I’ve gotten the tiniest cells so I will add more water and keep plugging away.
You are welcome Brenda. If you use this recipe take the Liquitex titanium white down to 1/2 part to get larger cells. Hope this helps! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Tara I’m so thankful for all the hours and expenses you have to endure for this wonderful tutorial, I appreciate your creativity and talent ❤️❤️❤️ I have the tinted Behr satin enamel how do I use that in the new mix please if you have the time to share I do appreciate 🙋♀️
Thanks Milly for the kind words! I’m always happy to share. As far as the tinted Behr…I’m assuming it’s the white…just use it in place of the untinted Behr. You shouldn’t have a problem with it. I’m sure I did that experiment…lol but I can’t remember now. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry I will look for that tutorial, thanks Tara
Thank you for all the work (time and money) you have put into getting this recipe perfected. I think I might prefer my cells a little puffier, and I was wondering what would I need to do differently to your recipe to achieve that? Again, thank you for taking the time to also show us exactly how to prepare the pearl paint.
Hi Mary…I’m happy to share. So if you want puffier cells omit the Liquitex Titanium White (or cut it down to 1/4 part). Then add in 1 drop of Zinsser Paint Booster Paint Additive for Waterbased Paints. That is optional but will puff ur cells. Everything else should stay the same.
Thank you so much dear Tara for taking the time to do all these experiments and share them with us!!! I wanted to try this technique for a long time, but I have never been successful, and I think is due to not having the Artist Loft which is not available here in Belgium. I have DecoArt Satin Enamel, Liquitex PM, GAC 800. Would appreciate any suggestion you can give me as to what other products I could use. Thanks again Tara! The hat looks cute on you 😍😍
Thanks so much Bonnie! You are so sweet! You can use the DecoArt Satin Enamel at 1/2-1 part. Do u have Liquitex titanium white?
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Aww thanks Tara 🥰🥰. Yes, I have Liquitex T.W. Also Amsterdam and Pebeo. I will try again!!!
@@bonnieand1 yes try with 1 part Liquitex TW and 1 part DecoArt Satin Enamel. I haven’t tried that combo but I think it will work. Oh…don’t bother with the Amsterdam…it doesn’t work well. Let me know how it goes! ❤️

Sorry I feel terrible now, but I was irritated because I was enjoying your tutorial so much but I had to abandon it because of the camera movement, I wish I could have stayed to watch the entire video it is so good. best wishes JB
Thanks Joyce. I get motion sick too in those situations. Honestly when I was teaching a class where I had to spin coasters a lot I got very motion sick so I understand. I will try to remember that for future. ☺️
Great job
Thank you so much Jeri! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you so much! This was so helpful to see the recipe and the different results. I'm excited to try the colored pearls and I have all the ingredients. What are the chances? Seems like I'm forever ordering something.
I wonder have you ever used the white pearl paint in only parts of the canvas to try to control where the pearls appear? I realize you have to tilt so I imagine they can't be completely controlled. I'm thinking in terms of a landscape pour. Thoughts?🤔 I'm thinking you have tried just about everything.
Also I loved your neutral Dutch pour. It turned out beautifully 😍
Thank u you so much Sandy. That’s exciting u have all the ingredients! I’m forever buying supplies too. And Yes I have just recently done a pour where I just put the pearl mix on the two ends and a regular base in the middle for the blow out. Here is the video: ua-cam.com/video/08mBrmpV8p8/v-deo.html
Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
So grateful for your experimentation and sharing your findings and new formula!! I'm using the deep base 7300 and was having all my paintings swallowed up by giant wonky cells! 😳 I was about to throw in the towel on Behr and go back to Decoart Satin Enamel since I had good results with that. But I will give the Behr another shot with these new ratios!!! Thanks so much! ❤️🙏🏼 By the way, I've been using the Artist Loft Titanium White in place of the soft bodied white with good results. My white pearls have been fine - only the colored cells were giving me problems. What is the benefit of adding in Apple Barrel paint?
Thank you so much! So…the 7300 is pretty reactive I’ve noticed so u might need to just dial it back. With these ratios 2 parts was good so try that. If it’s still getting swallowed try going down to 1 part. It is more reactive than the scuff defense base I was using. As far as Apple Barrel paint…I’m not sure what it is about the combo but it seems to be a pearl maker…just not a very stable one thus the three paints seem to work together to stabilize the pearls and make them not grainy or out of control. ❤️☺️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thanks Tara!! I'll try adding in the apple barrel and see what difference it makes for me!! Happy Painting! Looking forward to your next video! You're the best! 😘💜
Tara, I keep coming back to this video, still trying to get the perfect Pearl but I have a couple of questions, if you don’t mind answering. 1. Can I substitute the 7300 for the 8300 and if so, do I adjust any other part of the formula? 2. Would it be better to use Decoart Satin Enamel because I have a ton of that? 3. Is it possible to tilt off too much of your paint? I ask this one because I think my paints are actually too thin (if that’s possible) and I’m tilting soo much off that my paints are looking very muted with canvas showing through. I have sold so many of my pearl paintings but for whatever reason, I’m struggling to get the recipe right again. I’m getting so frustrated and feel like I’m just overlooking something simple. Thank you so very much in advance for your help!! Much love, Treesie💐💝💐
Hi Treesie! So I don’t think the 8300 can be substituted…u need a satin finish. Since this video I have found the 7353 is the best. They all can be substituted by DecoArt but at 1/2 part vs the 2 parts.
2. So I don’t know that is possible to tilt off too much paint. I always prep my edges with a color to make sure the canvas doesn’t show through (which will happen because the paints are VERY thin - as you know). It is possible to use too little paint with the pouring medium. You need to make sure you use enough paint to pouring medium in this technique. If you are using highly pigmented paints you can use less paint whereas if you are using craft paint or say artist loft paints you need to use more paint to pouring medium otherwise your paints will be muted. I really hope this wasn’t redundant and what you already knew. If so email me separately and we can talk about what maybe the issue! I’m always happy to help! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry oh Tara, all of that helps tremendously!! Thank you so very much!! I’ll email you anyway to not only discuss a few more things but to hopefully show you some good results! You’ve gotten me excited to jump back in my art studio first thing in the morning, which hasn’t been the case lately due to frustration!! Thank you so very much again my friend!! 💐💝💐
Oh good! Yes I have felt your frustration. That was pretty much my whole month of December. Please let me know how it goes and I hope you have success!
Thanks Tara ❤️
You are very welcome Diedre! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
I was wondering for Apple Barrel replacement, for another thin paint. Could I use high flow white I made with Goldens Airbrush medium recipe? Made them with tube paints and the complete Unicorn Spit line, to test. I use these on a pillow pour blowing out and then spinning, on tiles.
On the Zinsser is that the paint booster? If yes would XIM latex extender flow leveling additive in clear liquid, be the same type product? I have used as a replacement for Flotroel, when u couldn’t find it anywhere. Thank you for all the lessons, just starting with this technique. Love your Dad’s work, amazing talent both of you.
Thank you so much Kim! I have heard of people using Artist Loft Titanium White (not the soft body) and having success instead of the apple barrel. You could try that. As far as the rest...I am not familiar with those products so I can't speak to their success. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful there. The Zinsser is a paint booster and is very powerful. You only need 1 or maybe 2 drops. It is not a replacement for floetrol. Hope this helps a little!
Hi Tara, could you clarify if the liquitex basics titanium white is 1/2 part as in the description or 1 part as in your verbal demonstration? Thanks so much for your constant hard work to help us out. Your a dear and really care about your viewers. Lov ya, Madelyn Harris
Hi Madelyn! Sooooo… I started off with the 1 part but backed off to the 1/2 part. Either works but i like the results of the 1/2 part better. ❤️❤️❤️
Going to test using PPG deep base that I have some left to play with. Wondering on the colored cells, if you have tested ColourArte primary elements? mixing with their enamel medium, into a thick consistency that tube paint has. The shimmer in the cells would really pop.
I actually haven’t tested the colourart pigments. The TLPs worked good but I’m not sure about the colourart. I have some that I am going to test shortly. Keep me posted on the PPG. I’d love to know your results. ☺️
Great explanation. Thx
Thanks Sandi! I’m so glad you thing so! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
You are a treat to watch
Aww!!! Seriously! Ur gonna give me a big head! You are so sweet! Thank you. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Thank you so much for all the testing that you did and recording all of the results. Can you pls write the recipe for using DecoArt Satin Enamel instead of Behr? Than you. All of your creations are stunning.
Thank you Cynthia. The recipe is the same except instead of the Behr you would only use 1/2 part DecoArt Satin Enamel. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Thank you very much for your quick reply and answer. Happy Easter!!!
Thanks for sharing!!
Your welcome Hana! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Thank you so much, loved that you showed the different looks of cells. Can you use the Deco already colored satin enamel?
You are very welcome Barbara! Yes you can use already tinted satin enamel. Just be careful because a little bit goes a long way. I prefer to tint my satin enamel because I can control the cells and get a more vibrant color that way. DecoArt satin enamel is a very powerful brand. I only use 1/2 part of it when I use it in the recipe. All that being said…u definitely can use it! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Thank you so much, I was just wondering because I've seen it in color.
Yes you can use a deep base untinted satin enamel (I use Behr brand) and add whatever color you want to it. The recipe for that is on the description box of the video!
Thank you for all your information
Thank you so much for working so hard at this experiment. I heard you say you used zinzer. I have never heard of zinzer. Can you please tell me what that is?
Thank you Stephanie! Zinsser is a water based paint booster. You can find it at Home Depot or Lowes or Amazon. If you use it you only need a drop or two at most. Sara Taylor has a video talking about it in her recipe. I don’t really like to use it because when I do it makes weird bubble lines around my pearls and it makes my paints react too quickly giving me wonky pearls. (which I am not a fan of…LOL) That’s just me. If you are interested in her explanation here is her video: ua-cam.com/video/umBApA5JFCU/v-deo.html
I hope this helps and you have success! Oh…also…I think the Behr Scuff Defense Satin Enamel deep base 7353 is even better than the deep base 7300. I will be putting out a video shortly on that. ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Love love love all this information!!!! I've been watching a lot of videos before I go shopping.... Quick question on the color paints, do you use them straight out of the tube or do they need to be thinned as well ???
Thanks so much Cheri! They need to be thinned. I use a pouring medium of 50% Floetrol/50% Golden Gac800 and then thin them down to a similar consistancy as the pearl mixture.🙏🏻☺️❤️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Thank you for the quick reply, how much paint to the 50/50 ? I read somewhere 10:1 Floetrol to paint
It really depends on the quality of paint you are using. With craft paint I use 1 part paint to 1 to 2 parts pouring medium and water to thin. With better paints like pebeo, golden heavy body, Amsterdam, Arteza I use 1 part paint to 5 parts PM and water to thin. With golden fluids it is more like 1 part paint to 10 parts pm. Just remember the better the quality of paint the more pigmented they are and the better binders they have to keep the pigments bound to the medium and keep the integrity of the paint when thinned. The cheaper…usually the less binders and more paint is needed to kelp the integrity of paint when making it fluid. I hoops this helps!
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Yes ma'am your so awesome to help out, I'll most likely be using Liquitex that I can by locally
Perfect! With Liquitex I would use a 1:4 ratio! ☺️
Hi Tara, thanks for sharing your recipe for pearl cells. I have tried your recipe as well as Sarah’s. I did get a lot of pearls but they are very small compared to yours. I used exactly ingredients you used. Do you know what would be the reasons that my pearl cells are tiny? Thanks in advance.
Hi Sandy! So it could be the paints you are using. Can you tell me what brand and if they are metallics? Colors? 🙏🏻☺️
Thank you for your reply. I love metallic paints. The paints I used were Decoart Extreme sheen 24 K Gold metallic, sapphire, Rose Quartz, Amethyst and Emerald. You have mentioned “ metallic “ paints. I guess they won’t pear bigger. I also use golden fluid paints and colorarte pigments, TLP pigments. What brands paints do you normally use? Thanks! :)
Hi Sandy! So the reason you aren’t getting pearls is the metallic paints…especially the DecoArt. Their density is too light to pearl. The only metallics that I have found to pearl well is the Modern Masters metallics. I’m not sure if you know much about paint density but the paints that are heavier in density will pearl better. The paints that are light in density tend to float and the pearls cannot break through them. If you are interested in more depth tutorials I have lots of videos and I also do Zoom one on one instruction. I hope this info helps! ❤️
Thanks, Tara!
WOW! I've been waiting for this video and you really delivered. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you doing all these experiments and that I can depend on you to work things out for us. It's so time consuming and costly ...two things I don't have. I don't have the Liquitex titanium white but I do have Amsterdam...do you think it would work or do you think it would be too reactive? Also😁, I have Deco Art satin enamel and Behr white satin enamel...do I dare use them instead of the 7300? You are probably rolling your eyes saying, "gee wiz, you got to do some experimenting Tera." But,🙄 I thought I'd ask just in case you used them in your 30 plus experiments. Thanks again for all your time and effort! I so so appreciate it! By the way, only someone as gorgeous as yourself can pull off wearing a skull cap😁.😊💜💚💙💚💜
Lol! Tera u r so funny. I actually wore the hat cause I was cold and didn’t want to do my hair…😬🤣 as far as the Behr White…u can use it definitely…2 parts. I did do that experiment but I honestly can’t remember exact outcome but I’m pretty sure it worked….DecoArt also works but only 1/2 part. Now as far as the Amsterdam…I got grainy not great results with the Amsterdam. I wouldn’t use it. The Liquitex worked the best from all my experiments. Hope this info helps and always feel free to ask any questions! If I don’t have an answer I’ll just tell u it’s ur turn to experiment! 😆🙏🏻☺️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful art. Thank you for sharing. I am wondering where can I get the apple barrel 21170e (I that was the number I saw on your bottle) I can only find 21119.
Thank you
Debbie
Studio Kinsey
Thanks so much Deborah! Those are the same paints. They are just different sizes. I bought the 32 oz for $10 at Walmart.
I miss the beginning of this, you use satin enamel with liquitex and apple Barrel did you use floetrol or what did you use to make them fluid. To where they would flow ? Thanks hunn
If you need the replay just start it over. The recipe is in the video as well as the description. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
Hi Tara thank you so much for making this video, it was incredibly helpful. I have been experimenting with a few different products than yours but the comment you made about the way Sara Taylor uses zinsser snapped a piece of the puzzle together for me so I really appreciate that you took the time to put this video together. Also, I don’t know if anyone else relates to this, but I film almost everything I do in my art process but I have never posted a video online about it. How did you get started making videos? I have the equipment and it’s set up pretty well, but it’s the talking part I struggle with. Do you write out a script ? Do you rehearse ahead of time? How do you make your voice sound good? I hear myself talking and I just cringe and then I don’t want to edit it or post it. Any suggestions?
You are very welcome. I’m glad you have found this Info helpful. As far as my videos if you go back to the beginning you will see my videos were a hot mess…lol. I had terrible lighting used iMovie to start editing my videos and that worked fine but I now use a program called lumifusion. It’s not my favorite but it works. I usually don’t talk thru my videos because I like to just create and not worry about teaching or talking but I do do voiceover on most videos. I don’t have a script I just kinda go with the flow. At first it helped to kinda know what I was going to say but I have been doing this for a while so I don’t write anything out anymore. I think it is just going to take some time to get comfortable behind the camera and talking on camera. That just comes with experience I think. I think all our ur own voices make us cringe sometimes but if you have a point of view and people find the info valuable…our voice doesn’t matter. I hope this is helpful and wish u success for when and if you do start posting! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
@@PiecesofTaraArtistryI’m going to look into that video editing software, and I guess I just have to suck it up and will try doing voice overs like you, maybe that’s the ticket for me (for now). Thanks again :)
Hi Tara, great lesson! But I have a naive question, on your scale do yo7 measure Ounce or fluid ounce?
Thanks so much! Never hesitate to ask a question. I use weighted ounces on my scale.
Hi Tara, hailing from across the pond in the UK. Love your work. May I ask you if the Behr Satin Enamel Deep Base 7300 is a base paint without any colour in it yet? I'm dying to create pearls in my painting. I have a base that I could try, it's Valspar which I believe in made in America by Sherwin William. Have you ever used Valspar satin?
Hello from across the pond! Thank you so much for your kind words. So first of all the 7300 is an untinted base. It’s the base you take to the counter to have them add color to. I just pull it off the shelf and off I go (no tint). The 7300 is the Satin untinted base. I unfortunately have never used the valspar so I cannot comment whether or not it will work. My suggestion is give it a whirl and see how it goes. I’m not sure if you can get the DecoArt Satin Enamel in the UK but that works great too. Sorry I couldn’t be more help! Oh- I think Julie Vatcher did a pearl video not that long ago. You may want to check her out to see what formula she uses. She is in the UK. ❤️☺️🙏🏻
@@PiecesofTaraArtistry thank you Tara - i'll check her out,
Aloha I am confused on which Artist loft soft body paint to buy micheals has two similar looking bottles not sure if they just changed the label took your class in Seattle thanks for your help
Hello Sheareen! I hope you had safe travels home and all your art made it with you! I'm not exactly sure what you mean because the Artist Loft Soft Body here only has one bottle. If it says Artist Loft Flow White that is the old 2019 Bottle and formula. That is the best formula but is pretty out of stock everywhere. Are you buying on amazon or Michaels?
Am I super off or is this white pearl cell recipie in this video completely different than from what we used in pour con? I left all my notes in vegas ups and it hasn't shipped yet and i anxiously am wanting to pour lol Thanks♡ it was super great to meet you in person ❤️ and I enjoyed my class so much
Yes it is a little different. The recipe from Pourcon is this:
White Basecoat-
3 parts Floeteol
2 parts Blicrylic Titanium White
1.5 parts DecoArt Satin Enamel
1.5 parts Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss
Water to thin consistency
Color Satin Enamel Basecoat-
3 parts Floeteol
2 parts base paint color of your choice
2 parts Behr Satin Enamel 7300 Deep Base
1.5 parts Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss
Water to thin consistency
Pour Over paints are same as this video.
It was so great to meet you as well! Let me know if you have any questions! ❤️
I put pantyhose over my floetrol jug and shake it real well before I open it it catches every guber. And you can just Spar straighten the copper and your bottle and I also put a marble and all my bottles of paint it helps make some up and shake them when they've been sitting.
Thanks…yes I do the same thing with the pantyhose but even through it was strained already the small bottle had been sitting around for a while and accumulated some chunks. Lol. Good idea with the marble! 🙏🏻☺️❤️
THANK YOU!
You are so welcome Linda! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Tara, cordial greeting please, the mixture of components that you present for the white base, is it also used in the other colors that are applied to the canvas? Each color must carry them to achieve the correct effect of cells? Thank you very much, a hug.
Hello Cesar. The base color is the only color with all those components. You will not get cells if you put the satin enamel in the other colors. The “pour over” colors are only mixed with Floetrol, Golden GAC 800 and water to a thin consistency. All recipes are listed in the description box. I hope this helps! ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Hello, thank you for sharing. You mentioned you are just north of the boarder in Wisconsin, I am just south of wi in north I’ll. Maybe we are neighbours
Probably are! I’m in Kenosha! ❤️
Sorry to bother your wonderful Easter Sunday but I am about to try your recipe now and I just want to make sure I understand this part. ......1 Part GAC 800 or (1.5 Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss-omit Liquitex Pouring Medium)
1/2 part Liquitex Pouring Medium Gloss
.....Does this mean if you are using GAC you don't have to use the GCPM or the LPMG? ....Thank you so much for all of your help
Hey Cynthia! No bother at all. It means that if you USE Golden Color Pouring Medium you don’t need GAC or Liquitex Pouring Medium. If you DON’T USE GCPM then you will need to use the GAC 800 and Liquitex PM. Hope that makes sense. ☺️
Tha I you so much for the info
You are very welcome! ☺️
I don’t know if I missed it, but do you have a recipe for paints not pigments. Is it the same as colored pearl recipe
Yes the recipe is in the description box. 🙏🏻☺️❤️
great thank you
Thank you Kathie! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
Hi Tara - it’s your naggy fan April again! 😜 I asked Sara Taylor this but haven’t heard back so I thought I’d ask you…. I apologize if this is somewhere and I just haven’t seen or read it in the descriptions or comments. Regarding basecoat - So if I want a colored or tinted basecoat - do you just mix in some colored tube paint or drops of Goldens into the Behr 7300 first? Then continue on with the recipe and mixing? Additional question… Would you then also add in the Liquitex basics T white, the AL soft body and Apple Barrel or does the colored paints act as these would?
And a scale question for you too…. See told ya I was naggy! So I just got a new scale from Amazon and it has weight in ounces, but it also has fluid ounces (in both a milk option and a water option - I guess milk and water have a different density so they weigh differently, who knew! You learn something new every day I guess! Lol) But anyway, I was going to ask you what you use on your scale? I was thinking just weight ounces? But wanted your opinion - thank you my artist guru friend!!! 🎨🥰
Hey April. Never worry about asking questions! I happy to answer. So with the colored pearls it depends on if ur r using fluid or tube paints. If tube paints yes, I would mix 2 pts satin enamel deep base 7300 to 2 parts tube paint mix that well and then add in the rest of the ingredients. If fluid paints I mix everything together first and then add in the fluid paints. Start with half part and go from their depending on how vibrant you want the color. With colored pearls you DO NOT use any of the white paints in the mix. That recipe is only if you want white pearls.
As far as scale and measurement… you can measure however you want just keep it consistent. Grams or mls or oz are all fine just make sure if you are measuring liquid oz you stick with liquid oz…if you are going by weighted oz stick with weighted oz. I hope that makes sense. I just go by weighted oz personally. That’s just easiest for me. Hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻
