Excellent video - you were right on the money with everything. I think most people have slept on the C5. C5's are so stealthy looking & the low stance & body lines are highly underrated. I think good clean low mileage C5's are going to be worth SERIOUS money in the coming years.
I hope you are right. I bought a 99 convertible with books and records, clean CarFax with 8700 miles. I have no plans to sell it but will leave it to my daughter.
We’ve had our C5 for over a year. I’m impressed every time I drive it. Very smooth on a good road & a great trip car with plenty of room to pack. If it wasn’t for the C-5 body style, I would not even only Corvette.
I just sold my 92 C4 and bought a 2002 C5 coupe, torch red w/red interior, 6speed with 44K. No HUD, 1SB Preferred Equipment Group, 12 CD player, and Aluminum wheels. Special order by the original owner. I am 2nd owner. No comparison.
Right on, I kept my 2001 C5 convertible even when I bought my 2021 C8 convertible. 80K and not one service visit. Absolutely the best model I have had. The C8 is a totally different animal, like 2 different cars. Both worth keeping. Oh, and best thing is my C5 is manual. A must keep!
@@nwc3270 Yea I have people constantly bugging me to sell. I have the yellow one also so let me know what you get for yours. My highest bid so far is 25K but then what? Must be a lot more to give it up.
although I love my C6 Supervette, the C5 is the most comfy to drive out of all the corvettes past and present, easiest to get in and out of, there's tons of aftermarket parts available, and extremely reliable you can put 100k+ miles on them easy
1:00 If you can find a pristine base model, and you have a garage, yes. But the roof will degrade and crackle and spiderweb. Mine did. When I went to Craigslist with mine, the dealership could not figure out why it would not start intermittently after multiple service visits. That said, if you can get a low mileage 2004 Z06, a lot of problems resolved. It's an LS6 motor with more power, a hard top that does not leak water or degrade. 5:48 Oops, this is where I gotta go. You will NOT make 1000 horses with an LS1 without some extreme measures, money, and blowing it up. I have owned 2 of them. Thanks for what started as a plausible idea for a car, and went downhill hard with the old "it's the best because it can be modified for more power" idea. Reality is something very different.
Great video much to be said about a great car. I've owned 2 c5 vettes: 01 Z06 and currently own 99 coup automatic. I Truly missed the 01 Z06 but was court ordered to sell Dv. nevertheless purchased my 99 c5 and enjoy driving it. I also own a 2 c4 vettes 92 coup and 90 Zr1. The 92 is slowing being restored where Zr1 is parked and being stored and never driven. One thing people forget about the vette, is the power to weight ratio, aero shape. That is the secret to the performance of vette. Add the factor in how much it cost the car because number stunner! I own a 18 Wide body 6spd Hellcat, and I've owned a c7 Z06, and sure the vette is less powered but the way it performs with low horsepower and tq, priceless. I have also owned the 07 Z06 I also missed. Yes, I rest> Great Video Thanks for sharing your experience.
Easily the most fun one can have for the money in a car. Even a base automatic is fun. I cheated and had mine given to me, basically inherited before my dad actually died, he wanted to see my reaction to getting it. He was a structures engineer on the C5 when he retired, bought it new). A tune, couple tweaks (LS6 intake, headers) and gearing change (it is an auto, I put a manual diff in it) and it will surprise many newer cars and will get to 150 mph pretty damn quick. It is just plain fun to drive, like a big go kart.
Yup i have an Automatic base bc for the whole family can drive (yes I'm more of a manual transmission guy though) doesn't mean i need a Z06 😂. the C5 just look better bc the hatchback...... Z06 dont bruh, period
Just a minor correction the 01-04 Coupes had 350 HP and the torque was where the considerable gains came as the 97-00 had 350 Ft lbs. and the 01-04 had 375 Ft lbs. I have owned two Hatchbacks and one Z04 all of them 2004. My favorite was the Z06 due to the more power and reduced weight over the Hatchback but if I got one I am thinking I would go with a Hatchback again due to the Targa top. Speedway White is a rare color. Did you ever look to see how many they built in Speedway White? I know it is low. 😁
I gots me one. A 2001 model with most the trimmings. The one thing that I sure am glad they got right on the C5 is that it does not squeak or rattle one bit. At least mine doesn't. 😁😁
I have had my 2003 Anniversary Edition since 2007. It is stock, except for Z06 exhaust. It is an awesome car. So far I have done all the work myself. I have had it on trips in excess of 7000 miles without a hitch and averaged almost 30 MPG. I now have just shy of 50,000 miles. Yes, it has its flaws, and the interior is one of the biggest, but it is a classic, it is fast, it is dependable, and they are becoming hard to find. There are Corvette haters out there, but anybody who trully loves cars appreciates what this car is. Mine is the AE, 6 sp manual....very hard to find, and has nothing wrong with it. Any car, over 20 years old, with these looks and capabilities is something to love!
Lionel here in Central California. About 6 years ago I was thinking about getting a C5 but then read about the LS2 and found a 2006 LT3 with just over 90k for $18,000. The 400 HP is for real, wow! Don't get me wrong, I am totally sure I would have been happy with a C5 and the great look of the pop up headlights. You are right about the LS1 being a great motor. Love the car!
Just sold my '03 which was completely original apart from the tires (the GoodYear Eagle EMT runflats were hard as stone) and tinted windows. It even had the original wiper blades! Loved it, but I got a C6 and didn't have room for both. Not sure what's not to like about the head-up display and fog lights, but your car looks amazing and I love how enthused you are about it. I owned my C5 for 5 years and sold it almost what I bought it for.
I bought a 2000 convertible in 2013 .It has every option except the gill spears and motor heater , magnetic red , light oak leather and top . Runs great .Wife's favorite car .
Nice low mileage C5. May I recommend leather preserative, quality seat covers or wear abrasive resistance slacks to prevent car seat tears, also drive every few weeks to operating temperatures for tires, battery, oil, transmission fluid, heater core use & air conditioning functions. If using anti-fog spray on glass use a very light weight type. Hope helps.
I’ve had my Torch Red one owner C5 with 29K mi for a year. Best handling and most fun car I have ever owned( I spent 38 years in the Car Biz as Sales and Finance Mgr/Dir and have owned multiple American Sports and/or Muscle-l cars …Hands down the BEST $20K that I’ve ever spent!! Vrooom!
Analog cars lack a lot of modern driver aids/electronics and have a more direct feel. They emphasize the experience of driving and help you feel more connected to the machine. Cars with good handling feedback that require your attention to drive. I'll argue they should have a manual transmission too but that's just my opinion.
Great cars... I had a 2004 Commorative Edition C5 that I bought off the showroom floor and it was a fantastic car. I would never consider a European car... ownership cost is way too much. Enjoy your reliable Vette.
Nice vette this is the car that started the birth of the C8 first the trans was moved to the back and then the engine was added to the back along with the trans.
Needs a decent amount of upkeep because sport car parts are under more stress and the cheap off the rack chevy parts don’t help. Super fun to drive. 2 cars for one person is a waste though so it has to go. I’m intrigued he thinks it’s still a good deal at the now classic car prices, you could get a c5 in perfect condition for 15k a few years ago. But I guess no alternatives, with how expensive sport cars are now.
Grab some fishing line and use it as a saw behind the plastic. Get a eraser type disc for your drill and run it over the glue. Use paint safe cleaners to get the remaining residue off
Cheap interiors.modern 6-cylinder cars faster. leather cracks, paint fades if left outside. Great sound v8. Won't get 1000 horsepower with this engine combo. Yours has two different color paint and must been wrecked.
Just got my first Vette. ‘02 in electron blue metallic w/gray interior. 43,000 miles. It is my retirement/60th birthday present to myself, Love it!
Sweet find! Love the Blue, can't go wrong with that color on a Vette! Be safe!
that's cool, I bought my 02 with 55K miles for my 65th birthday!

Great video. In my humble opinion the C5 is arguably the best value today in a sports car. I treasure my C5. I plan to have it until I die.

Be honest do you feel it's better to buy a c5 instead of a c4 in 2023? Do you feel one is more superior than the other?
@@cedricmiller4370 Much superior in my opinion. I have owned a C3, C4.

I noticed you have a lead acid battery get rid of it or your car will be junk .batt acid will destroy your wiring and ecm . Under batt
Or you can get a very nice C4 for 10 to 12 k.
3100 to 3200 lbs weight
C5 is the chet code
Good looking corvette
Corvette really needs to go back to their aesthetic roots. The C8 is more of a mediocre supercar than an OG american muscle sportscar.
YOU ARE A WOMAN?
The c5 still looks good but wouldn't want to spend over 15k on them because anything over 15k is C6 Price category
If you want a nice, low mileage C5 you will most likely spend more than 15k.
C4 is much better looking
