My grandparents were farmers in west Texas. They grew cotton and corn. They grew many other vegetables for themselves as well. Grandpa would come in and wash up for supper. He'd ask "when was the corn picked?" Because it "wasn't fit to eat if it's been picked more than two hours before being cooked." Omg...he was right! ( Not going to lie, it's fit to eat.. however, nothing beats eating a vegetable just picked. Before the sugars change.. Nothing beats fresh corn, and home churned butter.. ❤️

Tammi, we now always microwave the corn in the husks. It steams done and is not watery. Love it this way. Cutting end off after cooking allows silk to slide off with husks.

My "best" way is leave it in the husk, place in microwave for 3 mins. Cut off the large end , about 1 inch, then hold the small end and squeeze and the ear will slide out, leaving 99% of the silk behind. Works every time. If you like a little crunch, cook for 2 and 1/2 mins.

Absolutely right. Corn is a little different today,we have lots of hybrids and super sweets. Just as important as cook time is harvesting at the correct time to get your corn at the top of its flavor profile. Proper storage until you process is another factor. I assume your corn used in the video today was bought or came from your freezer, since its early spring.

IN AND OUT.......GREAT TUTORIAL , THANK YOU , FOR SHARING........P.S. an old new england trick , is when you shuck the corn , the inner most light green leaves of the ears , that are glistening , those are thrown in with the boiling ears . it makes the corn even sweeter.............

That’s pretty much how I do it! SOOOOOO easy to get the husk and silk off AFTER it’s cooked…. Like 100% easier than fighting with the tough green husk and the fussy silks. It’s like the silks just fall off…. I just let it cool for 2 minutes after removing from the grill and then don’t even need gloves, and it’s still very hot inside. Can do it the same way in husks for example if it’s raining out and you want to boil it inside… just add a minute or two of cooking time.

    • @carolchildofgod1467
      @carolchildofgod1467 2 роки тому

That’s how I do my corn when we BBQ. Only difference is, I soak it all in a sink full of clean cold water for like an hour first. Them husks & silks soak up that water which helps steam the corn first, then it’s nice & tender to start soaking up all that grill flavor! In the winter if I boil it, I add a little milk, sugar and salt to my water. Adds a little sweetness to it, because as everybody knows, you can’t get good sweet corn in the winter! So, ya gotta help it out a little. Just be careful! That milk may cause it to boil over so watch it close!

The sweet corn in Indiana is just BUSTING out of the fields right now. My husband and I stopped at a little country side honor system sweet corn wagon and got a dozen ears for $6.00. We shucked them yesterday, and put them in the fridge. Tonight I got them out to get room temp, then followed your directions to a T. DELICIOUS! No more mushy tasteless sweet corn for us! It was crispy, and crunchy and all the flavors of each kernel just BURST in your mouth instead of getting lost in the water by overboiling like we used to. Thank you for the video, this is how I will boil corn from now on. I'll forward your video to my daughters who also live in Indiana! We have a jingle song here....."There's Only Corn In Indiana!" lol Thanks again!

Use a colander that sits high and just steam the corn. Practice the steaming and adjusting the amount of time needed to cook

Yummy! That's how long I cook it too. I either boil it or wrap it in a damp pater towel and microwave cook it for 4 minutes. It is perfect. Sigh... now I want some corn!

Try a splash of milk in the boiling water. My cousin taught me that and it adds just a touch of flavor that is really good!

I put mine on a rack in my pressure cooker for one minute. Fast, easy, yummy. To butter it, we keep a stick of butter exclusively for corn on the cob and we just roll it over the butter.

Nothing is better than fresh corn on the cob, but the best way to cook it is on the grill

I used to watch the late
    Justin Wilson Louisiana cooking show.
He had that strong southern accent.
In short. He put a cube of butter in the pot. I.v do that. The flavor goes deep in the cob.

The only thing my Mama did different is she put the pan on the stove to get hot then we went to the garden to pick it and shuck it. The fresher the better. I sure love your videos💜

Time between picking and boiling is absolutely important too. If it’s off the stalk over 12 hours throw it to the pigs. It’s all starch and no sugar after that. As for cooking? You are on the mark!

The only thing that I would add to this is to butter a slice of bread SUPER heavily and roll the corn on it. Its less messy, and then you get to eat a buttery, corny slice of bread when you’re done. Idk if I grew up doing this because of the Canadian half of my family or the southern half, but its great, and its the way I grew up eating corn on the cob.

I have not boiled an ear of corn for about 40 years. I stick mine in the microwave for 3 minutes for 1 or 2, in the husks, after 3 minutes it’s so easy to clean, that might take 10 seconds per ear. I’m going to go buy some tomorrow. Yum.
