As I say in the video, I don't think you can go too far wrong with a Phoibos if you are looking for a decent budget watch. And I should know, I have reviewed heaps of them. Some, like the Sentinel and Great Wall were well made, but a bit odd. And even the original steel Eagle Ray left me cold. Enter the bronze version with a Sellita SW200 for only $60 more than the original. That has to be a bit of a deal, right? Just don't forget to turn the bezel once a week! Cheers, Jody
fyi. I bought a second hand ebay Phoibus 007 b OR C with the lettering phoibus. Regardless. The Only problem with it . Was the Original Owner had lost the Lume PIP. I emailed Phoibus. Asking what options they may have . I thought it may take them a while. So I shopped else where that same night. Found a Pip on ebay and bought it. Paying $10.00 Plus 4.25 Shipping. 2 days Later I bothered looking at my email. Phoibus had emailed me the next day And offered a Pip for only $5 dollars. I said all this as an example of their commencement and customer service after the money has changed hands. I was not the original owner. And told them that up front in my email. So Phoibus 5 STARS !!!.
It's canny practice on their part, too, because anything they can do to encourage a vibrant second hand market is going to help establish brand confidence. Shows there are shrewd business heads behind the brand.
Great company!
Always nice to hear stories like that👍
I watch too many of your reviews Jody. When my 7yo daughter hears the tick tock, she trys to deepen her voice before blasting out,
"Hello, and welcome to just one more watch!"
And the wife then immediately hides your credit card!
That’s hilarious!
I agree with your observation, Jody ... the textures on this watch are very striking. I particularly like the ‘rough’ appearance, which will supplement the patina beautifully over time. Enjoy!
Hey! if you wanna save a little bit of energy, CuSn8 Bronze is also referred to as B8 Bronze. It is commonly used on lower end cymbals for drums (with the Paiste brand being an exception), with CuSn20 (B20) being used on high end cymbals. it's less rosy in color and more yellow. The number after the B refers to the amount of tin in the alloy. I've seen B10 and B12 as well off the top of my hand
I kind of like the *OU812* bronze & *CuL8R* bronze alloy. But then, that's just me... lol
My first set of hi-hats were B8 Sabians! Now I rock Ziljian Ks... love the connection. 👊🏿🧔🏾
I have Zildjian cymbals! They sound fantastic..
This is probably the nicest looking Phoibos watch I’ve seen. Great review as always 👍
That's the first time I've seen a meteorite dial. I like it! I've known about the Widmanstätten pattern but I didn't know people were making watch dials out of the material. "Sore on my fingees" LOL! That made me smile.
When meteorite dials first started appearing, I did not like them. They seemed like an unnecessary expense, did not please my eye, and I just did not "get" them. Now, I think they are out of this world! This Eagle Ray seems a nice watch, and a great value. An insightful and value-packed review by JOMW!
Nice watch and video. Orange is one colour you never wear on camera from what I remember ABC journalists saying.
TheMrFishnDucks Cable News makes you go blind. ☺️
I saw this and imagined this watch being worn by an old school diver. Like the old bell shaped dive helmet, air hose, weighted boots thudding on the ocean floor. And the very nautical theme with the octopus logo.
I have to say I personally love this watch it has all i could ask for. This Phoibos would always have a home with me. I cant wait to have something like this someday. Things are tough for me right now but when things change for me a Phoibos in on my Radar. Thanks for the Great reviews.
What I like about this Phiobos is that it isn't an homage. I prefer original design and innovation over homages. Nice design and bezel especially that saw edge on the bezel. Nice vid none the less mate!
I bought the ceramic dial, not the meteorite, because of your previous Phoibos reviews. I received it a week ago. I'm just in love with this watch! It's a great bronze watch, with great specs for the money. Thanks Jodi! I follow your channel from a long time ago and it's the first time I post a comment. Just to say this Phoibos is a stunner!!! 😄 Greetings from Spain! Cheers!
Adrian Bacchiarri Just received mine today - soo much nicer than I even expected!!
The pip and the crown on this one look so vulnerable. If they do something about that for the next edition, I'll buy one. Crown at 2 or 4 with a slight crown guard, would do nicely.
The model with the Bronze Bezel is out of this world. Lume: 15 layers Super-LumiNova C3 on hands, indices and bezel marking
Timothy Thomas I was gonna get that version, but I tell ya, that etched ceramic bezel looks a lot better in the flesh than on camera. That said, I want the beautiful bronze bezel piece too!
Yes!! Jody agrees with me about the pointlessly high water resistance among microbrands.
Yeah its kind of like smartphone and camera manufacturers a few years back, now introducing the 926 megapixel camera
@@limirl Yeah, Sony even made a smartphone with 4K resolution screen at one point. These people need to learn the concept of "diminishing returns".
This Phoibos is beautiful! I think something I've discovered, that I don't really care for, are 'homage' watches that just look way too much like the original.
This piece, however, offers a lot of nicely done origionality, while still giving you the design ques that made the original watches so successful...
Thanks, Jody!
I am just as entertained to see Jodys choice in tee shirts as in his choice of watches he reviews, however, I don't get his love for bronze. I will say I don't like gold-like colored watches, but I do like meteor.
I'd be very keen on a stainless steel watch with meteor dial. I'll not touch a bronze watch though.
If that is meteorite. That is EXPENSIVE STUFF
For a Scotsman, he seems to like orange a lot. 👍

I think they have knocked it out of the park with this one. Wow! Great review as always!
I got this version a few weeks ago, it was actually a toss up between this and the Zelos Swordfish bronze black meteorite. As I already have a Swordfish Frost I went for the Phoibos and I'm very pleased with it. Anyway the reason I'm posting is that Phoibos told me these ARE limited editions. This vid suggests they are not. I asked them before I bought the watch, is it a limited run and I have an email from them saying the meteorite versions are limited to a 100 each version. There is only two versions, black and blue. Btw the blue is really nice too.
So just a heads up if you are thinking about getting one, they are limited.
A quick update for anyone interested in the black version, all sold out. I've just been on the site and as of today 2nd Oct 2019 at 1pm the Black Meteorite version have all gone. However the Blue version seems to be in stock. The blue is a rich looking blue and has a nice bronze bezel, unlike the black bezel on the other one. If I had the funds I would have been tempted to get the blue one too. 😁
Is your zelos real meteorite?
@@CHAD-RYAN Hi, I didn't get the Zelos Swordfish Meteorite, I was thinking about that one but as I have the Zelos Swordfish Frost Full Lume I went for the Phoibos Meteorite. As for the Zelos or Phoibos being real Meteorite, I don't know how you can tell without taking it apart. Plus I've no reason to think it isn't.
@@jodrell well id like a real meteorite instead of just a texture. My preference. But i do like this new phoibos a lot. And have been eyeballing the bronze watches for a while. Its just i guess perfect for me. But i just bought a gshock retro square .
@@CHAD-RYAN As I say I don't have a reason not to believe my Phoibos isn't a real Meteorite dial.
It states on the website Dial: Black nature meteorite dial, Name: Muonionalusta Meteorite, Composition: Iron 89%, Nickel 8.42%, Germanium 0.133ppm, Gallium 2.24ppm, Iridium 1.6ppm.
So as far as I can tell the Phoibos is real Meteorite, unless anyone can say otherwise.
Just out of interest which square did you get?
good video thanks! I cannot see myself spending $500 or greater on a micro brand the likes of Phoibos or any other micro brand for that matter. I see the SW200 is starting to make its way into a lot of micro brands so I suspect they have some good deal going on. They have reached territory that now has me looking at watches with more heritage - new, used or vintage.
Very nice ... wish the bezel was lumed, but a good looking bronze watch
I love the bronze look, so much better than PVD gold. Not crazy about the moon rock dial, but each to his own. Another good vid also, keep them coming!
I can't save for grail watches with so many great new pieces coming out
2k IS a grail watch for me! A lot of the mid-rangers that come out I have to save up for too, lol!
Totally relate
Life too short to always wear cheap s...t watches. Be disciplined, save a little regularly. Every now and again it's great to splash out a bit and get the watch YOU REALLY WANT. Remember,if you buy a Phoibos you get 10% off when you enter the promo code JOMW10 (as it states on the link at the beginning of these threads) and no postage fees.
Awww snap! I think I may have finally talked myself into a Phoibos! That blue meteorite looks amazing!
Went on a watch hiatus. Sold alot and kinda just ignored all things watch for a while. Still wore a watch daily but whatever.... Anyways my fire is relit and holy crap my favorite watch youtubers channel has doubled in size. Glad to see your channel is growing Jody. Can't wait to binge watch everything I've missed!
It’s not just who’s testing the water resistance, but how it’s tested. Many watches can pass a dry test because it measures crystal deflection. But a wet test is another matter entirely. The crown should probably be longer too. You wouldn’t have to grip it so hard and it would therefore not hurt your fingers as much. But the value overall looks tremendous. Still not a fan of the bronze watch though. I wish this fad would come to an end, and soon. And those bronze buckles would irritate my skin too. Great review Jody.
Great video, Jody. Putting the exotic materials aside, the case design is the star for me. Looks just about right (2mm thinner would be perfect perhaps). It certainly looks like it wears well.
A very cool watch and a wonderful review. But, I just love the Proteus with the weathered pre-petina case - which is my choice for the best Phoibos (although I understand that the Proteus came after this bronze beauty).
Already tempted for two years to buy a Phoibos. This one is really nice, allthough I would prefer a larger case size. Thanks for the review!
Phoibos must have watched Jody's last video and decided to make one just for him with meteor and bronze.
Almost perfect... I agree that it should be a tad thinner. I'd also make the diameter 2mm smaller and use more impressive meteorite (if you're going to do something, do it properly). Sorely tempted though.
I really like this watch. I’m hope it’s still available when I’m ready to buy my next watch.
I like Bronze when it's not tarnished... so I'll pass. Still, I'll look into the brand. Thanks, Jody!!!
Agree wholehartedly with you, Patrick. I may still get one and try to keep it polished when it gets a little tarnished. The blue one is stunning by all accounts.
Bronze watch isn't my cup of tea.
Anyway, Jody always successfully made me watch his review.
Watched this wearing my reef master. I love all the phiobos range apart from the great Wall one. Yet another watch on my list 👍👍
Enjoyed your presentation, thanks! I’m still deciding if I want to add bronze to my collection. Tudor offers one at a much higher cost with their in house movement.
"Fingies" 🙈 Nice watch! Solid review as always! THX!
You know-- I think sometimes Jody says something just knowing that there's gonna be some sort of a 'political upheaval' when he does... Lol!
🤣
Absolutely LOLd at that part 😂
Reminds me...Wish there was a Watch with a real Fossil on the Dial...!!
weerobot Great idea, but for God’s sake don’t name it “Fossil”! 😆
Beautiful watch, was gonna save up for a dress watch but not sure anymore, i kinda want this more lol
It might be first watch i ever saw in gold theme that works for me
Krzysztof Kolodziejczyk Absolutely!
This one made my list. As soon as I can really, really, really justify it. Thanks, Jody.
Bronze watches never peaked my interest, until now. The watch as a whole works so well when you consider everything it offers.
Cool rustic look. Looks gritty in a cool way. The bezel’s a bit aggressive looking through.
I like it .. Defenetly a fan of bronze cases
Phoebos keeps delivering great products, thanks for the review JOMW! I'm so impressed with Chinese manufacturers, my Heimdallr is amazing for the price, and look at something like San Martin 068, looks pretty dope, and has SW200 as an option for very reasonable money.
Reminds me of the JPS Lotus F1 colour scheme.
Damn this watch is coming for the Zelos Mako. Very similar
Bought myself one of these. Thanks for the discount code Jody!
I like the watch a lot, and bronze rules. It looks good with a black bezel insert, but the glossy ceramic kills it for me. I flipped my beautiful Phoibos Wave Master because of irreconcilable differences with the bezel. The shiny bezel also doesn't age well with bronze. If someone knows how to dull down the bezel insert finish, I'll buy this one for sure.
Greg Gubman I think the shiny ceramic insert integrates well with the beautiful slightly domed sapphire crystal👌
They should make sure the caseback is aligned properly.
Very nice and impressive, might request one of these from her indoors for crimbo cheer s. Shane uk 🇬🇧
Helloooo,I was out with wifey walking the dog last week when a loud, distinctive loud thump behind us made the dog jump." What the hell was that?" asks my wife. " Don't fret, its another bloody meteorite!" I assured her! Cheers and a nice watch there. Len.
Love the look of this watch and I know the Sellita is a decent movement. I hope this one isn't a limited edition..
Oh fucking hell Jody, I'm going to end up buying a bronze diver that I had absolutely no intention of buying a few short months ago. Damn you and your reviews! I never had any intention of modding watches either until that video (more of those please!). Maybe I'm just easily led. You're costing me a fucking fortune though. Cheers for your efforts, very enjoyable as always!
I would love to know your thoughts on the new Burei Datejust and if it's better in term of quality than for example a Parnis president (same price)
I love your videos man, keep doing great content like this !
How about radioactive meteorite? Now that I’d go for....
Great video Jody! You could do a video showing the patina that 'growed' in the bronze watches that you reviwed last couple of years.
One of the best looking Phoibos watches to date! Excellent review as always, sir
Great review Jody. Just wish I could say the same about the watch, erm not for me. However a great many will love it I’m sure, plus it’s pretty good value too. 👍
Always a good day with a video from Jody!
HEY JODY I LIKE YOUR T.SHIRT WHEN YOU GOING TO MAKE A REVIEW ABOUT YOUR T.SHIRTS COLLECTION
The GMT Eagle Ray came out today!
Great review! I really liked the look of this one.
Perhaps you could consider a "bronze-off" and put a few of them head to head. If you do be sure to check out Tsao Baltimore's Torsk-Diver. I've been happy with mine, and gotten quite a few compliments after having it less than a month. I think it holds up against this and the Zelos well!
I really like bronze watches and this is great, except for the tips on the hands. The movement at that price is amazing. I wonder how she will look with some heavy patina. 👍 Great review as always Jody.
Same hands as my beloved Wavemaster....
Maybe my 2nd Phoibos...😇
I have the original Eagle Ray. The case is beautifully designed and made. However, the watch stopped working after a month and the manufacturer will not pay postage so it's quicker and cheaper to get the movement looked at here in Britain. If it can be fixed still cheaper, if not to save time I'll replace the movement. Phoibos' customer service has been appalling and I'll either a) be surprised if it's actually a miyota 9015 inside or b) movements sold to third parties are ones that don't meet QC requirements within Citizen.
Lovely review, thanks! - how do you think this compares to the Glycine Combat Sub bronze? Im between the two...
Phoibos Eagle Ray bronze 500m Vs. Zelos Mako 500m bronze? Both share the same movement, and both come in bronze cases and meteorite dials. Which diver would you guys go for?
+ 1 on the Phoibos. I think you'd be hard pressed to beat this deal-- especially with all the kit that comes with it...
Don't believe that this Phoibos is really 500m WR. I think this is just marketing stuff in order to justify the price increase. The case is only 0.8mm thicker than the stainless steel version (that is rated at 300m WR) and Phoibos now claims that this version is 500m WR !
Hombre Jody! You are an real Australian man now from the indomitable Highlands of Scotland. You can't complain about your fingers. 😄😄😄😋
Felix Angel Lopez Alonso Ah hmm... that’s “fingies”!
Nice watch company. Similar copies to Deep Blue and Zelos. Nice designs. A large percentage of Zelos with SW200 have had failures as to where they stopped working. Hope Phoibos goes a lot better.
Like the meteorite, price is good too. ..but wish these companies wouldn't send all the extra cr*p with it! I begrudge paying for leather straps that will just be binned & a spring bar tool when I've got several already- I'd rather have the money off the watch in the first place...dunno why microbrands feel the need to pad out their watches with all these extras & take the choice to purchase later from the customer- it does stop me buying them. Good review, cheers 👍👍
I don't get bronze. Cosmetic, perhaps, idk. But I always say, if I like a bronze watch, that SS would improve it. And I hate the logo. If they shrank it, and maybe reduced the contrast, like light grey on a dark grey dial, that'd be great. Thanks for an interesting vid!
blintor zabat Don’t think the logo jumps of of the meteorite as much as it does the ceramic dial. Painted onto the texture sort of softens it.
I asked Phoibos about the limited nature of the watches:
"The Eagle Ray Bronze Watch series are limited Edition in our store, each version only have 100 pcs.
And the PY018F was sold out now, and it won't be restocking in the future.
But the other batch of PY018E blue Meteorite will be back in stock after one-two months."
just found this channel by chance....had laptop volume turned up when Jody says "Hellllooooo" in a gruff Scottish accent...i near s--- myself......apart from that great channel will defo watch from now on....but with volume down at start....all the best from Stevenston Ayrshire
Maaaaaaate! I'm from Ardrossan. Say hi to the three towns from em. Cheers!
@@JustOneMoreWatch I thought that accent was ayrshire made..lol..good luck with the channel.
Why would anyone waste their money on a Rolex when phoibos exists
I just looked at the non Meteorite of this watch at $420, the AD doesn't carry that version, just wondering it's worth the $100 difference? Both look great.
Thank you for the review. If it was under 12mm thick, I would have instantly bought it.
Looks great! I was just looking at bronze Oris today 😍
I feel like I may be the only one who feels this way but I really don't get the whole bronze/patina thing. Its a nice watch but I wouldnt want it looking all green and moldy on my wrist..
Andrew Shenton Felt the same but tried out the bronze Glycine Combat Sub - so glad I did! Has patinaed to a beautiful antique Remington statue type finish - no moldy stuff! Really stands out from all of my steel pieces, looks so interesting and eye catching... every collector needs to try at least one! :)
Wtf has phoibis been smoking? I can use some
Jody, would you please review geckota g02, really interested on that but no one review that
I can’t wait to get this one… But I’m going to have to wait a little while I guess… Three watches coming on a slow boat from China right now… Just made a Zelos purchase...5 other watches in the last six months one very expensive one...So I’m calling first Dibs now If you decide to let this one go!!!
John Buckmaster You’re on a roll!
Another great review, Jody. If you keep this up I am going to be bankrupted (if my wife doesn't cut up my credit card , or I should mysteriously 'disappear' - whichever comes first). Would much prefer the blue meteorite to the black one, some who have bought these state that they look way better on the wrist than they do on the 'web. Can't wait till the next batch is available (in a couple of months time according to an email I had from Phoibos a couple of days ago)
If you want to clear your conscience from getting another watch free, I would give that watch a happy, wonderful life on my wrist. 😃
To me the Ergon Maelstrom is a better value and has a better handset. Though it only comes with ONE extra strap, is a better looking bronze with SW200 heart. nice review though!
I love my Reef Master and Ocean Master! They really stepped up their game with this one. The meteor dials are gorgeous. I have the Boldr Odyssey meteogrey. It's
out of this world! 🤣🤣🤣😐
Trüe Brit Just received the bronze Eagleray meteorite dial (just like Jody’s) - looks so good in person!!
@@willardhooton920 Awesome! Congrats man!
man i want this but its sold out..bohoo..i just started looking at microbrands..
Sensitive Fingeeees! I like watches that dare to be different. Yes I have 2 Invictas! Sellitas as well. real cheap. Cool Watch.
Bloody hell, Jody. Watched your video last night and bought a Phoibos🤣
They do appear to be great value.
Thanks mate.
Outstanding video Jodi!! and an outstanding watch!! I will own it at some point in the near future but right now my sights are on something else!! but money in the bank Phoibos lol
So.. your thoughts on the Oris Pro Pilot X ???... Is the hot shtter topic now...
I kinda like it... PMD!
That thing is gorgeous!
Beautiful watch ! Hopefully they are restocked when I get the year end bonus. I noticed the clasp on the leather strap sticks out about a quarter of an inch. Is that because it wasn’t broken in ? An edit in the video kind of hides this.
I guess what I’m saying is the clasp doesn’t appear to lie down properly in this video.
Yeah I think so Chris, I had been wearing it on the tropic and not the leather. Cheers!
Sadly out of my price range for now but it is a nice proposition. I do like their logo actually- it reminds me of the new world order type baddies in Spectre.
I don't remember you making the point but i prefer your mans bezel left raw bronze rather than the ceramic..too much shiny shiny.
Niandra I was worried about the same but found that the etched shiny bezel actually integrates very well with the beautiful semi domed crystal👌
4:37 - my moment of fame! My comment is there! Will you make it as a stop motion video 😆👍
I want the black meteorite version, but was waiting because I used my watch budget for 2019. Now, it looks like version is sold out. Does anyone know if Phoibos typically re-stocks sold-out versions?
"...my fingies." ?? 😉😃 Always entertaining Jody 👍
Another JOMW video, another like! Great looking watch too! Cheers Jody.
Great review as always Jody! Very nice watch. Amazing job Phoibos!!! I agree 13 mm thick would have made it even better. Love the whole thing. Great job on the meteor being a little more discreet. Great integration. Unfortunately, my brass needs are all taken care of for now. I went a little crazy with the brass Ventus Northstar. I bought 4, I’ll be giving one to a friend! They should finally be arriving in a few weeks.
Ha! 4? That is a bit crazy! You'll be popular with your friends though. Cheers Rio!
The bundle brought the price down to $170 USD/unit ($ 230 CAD)! I couldn’t decide between the blue, the green and the one with the ceramic insert...
Nice video and a lovely watch! I really like their logo too. Además, ¡me gusta tu camiseta! 👍
