- Victorian elegance meets steam powered innovation and a new world is born. Come along as I explain the essentials of the steampunk style. Today, I am diving into the magical world of steampunk, an enchanting blend of vintage aesthetics and futuristic imagination. If you love the look of Victorian-era fashion mixed with gears, clockwork, and a touch of fantasy all wrapped up in velvet cloth, then you’re going to love this project. Discover the essential elements that define the steampunk aesthetic, from Victorian influences to industrial motifs and the colors and textures of imagination!
This is the third style we are investigating in the StyleWise series.

You should write a book about these different styles of journaling that you have explained. So interesting!
I second that! ❤

I am really enjoying this series. Thanks Kathleen 😊
I’m so glad Lisa! Thanks for watching.
Did a Kathleen binge today on one of my favorite styles! Thanks.
@@dawnklein106 Awww - thank you Dawn!
I love how you explain all these different styles!
Another genre I will have to try! Thank you for peaking my interest, Kathleen!!
You are so welcome! I hope you will try something. Thanks so much Kerri!
I love this series! Thank you so much for sharing ! You have become one of my favorite junk journal experts to watch!
Oh that’s so kind! Thank you Tracy!
Love steampunk! Great video😍
Thanks for the visit Sue! I’m glad you came by!
I’ve really never had any interest in steampunk before, but after seeing your video, I can see that in many ways it’s not too far away from the vintage style, which I often do. For example, I have stamps of Victorian ladies, keys, Paris, etc…and I use Tim Holtz papers. So that’s something to consider. 😃❤️
@@elainet5870 It’s very true Elaine, steampunk is very close to vintage and I think that’s why I love it. I love vintage, but steampunk just offers a little more whimsy and imagination. Every once in a while, haha! Thanks for considering it - I hope you’ll try just a small project.
Fun theme to try
@@user-vk8mn3gn7f I hope you will! Thanks for watching.

@@carolbeeding4270 Thank you Carol!
I love this. I actually make as "sort of" steam punk postcard yesterday for a challenge that I'm in and it aired this morning 7am. It's simple, but I love it. Thank you for a great video. I'm saving this one to watch again after I collect more stuff to make a steampunk journal. Have a blessed day ☺♥
Thanks very much Joan! I’ll go watch.
Thank you, Kathleen. Another wonderful summation of this topic! You make it interesting and bring it to life with your examples. I’m in the middle of reorganisation of my craft supplies so I need to complete that task. I’m hopeful 🤞 that I can then locate what I need without scratching my head and turning in circles. 😂😂 I’m looking forward to seeing your videos on steampunk! Love and big hugs! 😀💞
@@kerynokeeffe9133 Thanks very much Keryn! Congratulations on the reorganization project - it’s always nice to get things set straight again, right? Keep your eye out for steampunk stash, haha.
Hi Kathleen, I love your storyboard. You have such a gift for putting things together. ❤
I read somewhere, some time ago, that steampunk has its origins with the science fiction writings of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne (who you mentioned). The old television show The Wild, Wild West was a favorite of mine and was a great reflection of the genre too, I think. 😊
Oh thank you Julie! I appreciate that. Yes, you are right about Wells and Verne - what wonderful imaginations they had! Wild Wild West was a particular favorite of mine and certainly represents steampunk aesthetics. For some reason my mother didn’t care for it and didn’t like us watching it, but I tried and I have all the episodes on disc even now. Thanks for watching.
I've never made a steampunk journal before but I see from your video that I already have many of the elements in my stash. I'm going to give this a try as you go through your series. It should be fun.
@@CPcomments If you like vintage, I’m sure you have much of what you need. I’m glad you’ll give it a try!
Thank you so so much for this video & the series! 😍😍You are the only UA-camr who has made me like steampunk.. I remember your very first steampunk video on this channel and till now it has been my most favourite steampunk video ever! Really appreciate your knowledge about this genre and your nudging us to create our own versions.. You are my biggest inspiration Kathleen 😘😘🫶🏼🫶🏼
@@anaghahonnemadi3436 Oh thank you Anu! You are a steady fan, haha! I appreciate you!

Awww- thanks Jacob!
I really enjoyed this video. I’m putting my first junk journal together and I love the steampunk theme. You have given me some great inspiration!
Yay for steampunk - I’m so glad you like it.
Thank you
You're welcome Nana - thanks so much for coming by!
Kathleen, this was very informative. I've seen a lot about steampunk, but I've never heard it explained as you did. Thank you. I definitely have a better understanding now of what it is and what elements make something "steampunk." How long has this style been around? Thanks for the interesting presentation and the great examples. Loved seeing them.
I think it started in the 70’s Linda, as a sub-genre of science fiction with inspiration from Jules Verne and H.G. Well’s (Time Machine). Thank you so much for watching. You should try a little project. I would love to see what you do with it.
Thank you for creating this and explaining it to me. I have been wondering if this style was defined or was it only gears and clocks. Very helpful.
My pleasure - thank you so much for watching.
These are cute
@@loveforpaper6203 Thank you so much!
I like steampunk, too, along with Dark Academia. Those papers are gorgeous, esp. that top one that looks like leather. Looking forward to watching you create in this style 🕰⏱⚙🎩🚂😆 P.S. have you seen the movie An Unforunate Series of Events? very steampunky 😀
Thank you Kathleen! and thanks for the recommendation - I will watch! Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and the Mummy series also give me inspiration.
❤
