Damn, I haven't heard this demo in like forever! Taking me way back now. I remember back in the 80's carefully ripping those flexible plastic playing discs out of the music magazines like Electronic Musician and Modern Drummer and playing them on my turntable, wow. I was practically salivating over the Simmons brochure, lol, yearning to play that kit (oh, the magic of marketing...). Now I need to take my SDS9 out of storage and start playing it again :) Thanks for posting!
My SDS9 used to crash at regular intervals and went back to Simmons HQ multiple times. In the end I got rid of the brain and replaced with an Akai pad to midi converter and an S950
Very cool. It takes me back. :) This may be a silly question but I am going to ask it since I am new to Simmons vintage drums and brains. If each pad has an input and output how does one plug all that into an amp? My Roland module has multiple inputs but only the MIDI and stereo out. This is why I am confused as to how to run a Simmons drum brain to an amp.
Hi, CatLady 493. It´s not a silly question. I also have a Roland TD 12, with a stereo output and a couple of auxiliary outputs. This is one of the things I hate most about electronic drum kits and current drum machines. I prefer to have the option of individual outputs for each channel Simmons made monitors for their electronic drum kits with individual inputs for each channel (bass drums, snare, three. toms, hi hat and symbal-- they called it that, instead of cymbal-). It was called Simmons SDC 200. I have one. However, the Simmons modules not only have individual outputs, but also stereo outputs and mono output (the latter, usually to be used as output for the monitor)
Awesome. Thank you SO much for your response and explanation. It would be cool to output each channel. I am assuming a mixer could be used for that. Regardless, as long as there is one main output it could be sent to an amp/PA. I am hoping I'll be getting a Simmons SDS 8 pads and brain so I wanted to have everything ready to go should I be able to get it. We are just trying to figure out shipping. If not, I may be taking a road trip. :) Thanks again!
Cool thanks, I wondered if theres any way to find a SDSV Hi Hat or Cymbal Card, do you know anyone that would have at least the Hi Hat Chip? I do have a chance to get a SDSV with out either gym or HH Chip or i can spend $1000 more for an entire 7 pc kit with all 7 Cards.
No it doesn´t. SDSV is fully analog, SDS9 sounds are "digital" (8 bit eproms), but the toms (they´re analog), and the bassdrum sound, generated by a internal software.
SDS8 was the "cheap" version of SDSV. Full analog, but only two options: preset (unalterable) and user option per channel. It means you only have two sounds per channel (SDSV has four sounds per channel). It´s a good choice if you don´t want to spend too much money.

I’ve long wanted a Simmons! Marvelous drum set! 🥁
Thank you so much for posting! I used to carry around an SDS9 Simmons brochure with me every day in the 80s when I was 14. Wanted one so bad.
My pleasure, Benjamin.
Great sounds

Ennjoy it!. :)
This is possibly the cleanest Simmons kit, in the sense that it is the bridge or blend of analog and digital.
Woah at 3:17 that sounded like they were played through a Synclavier. That was cutting edge for 1985!

TAKE MY MONEY! 💰 💵

WIRECOOLEY I remember the SDC200! Wanted one of those too. Wow, you’ve got the great toys.
Suhweet!
I'm sold
Do you know what kind of Drum Stands would work with the 9 pads ? I been trying to look it up for extra pads I want
Pearl tom arms work perfectly with Simmons pads.
I love e drums, but who thought this sounded good, lol…😂
Heck, actually, I did and do, lol!
Hey Wire, don't know your real name, Does the SDS9 have a Hi Hat Voice/Channel because I don't have the a manual for the one i got ? Thanks
NO, SDS9 has no hi hat. Hi hats that you can hear on this flexi disc are from real hi hats.

it doesn't have sounds like sdsv?

WIRECOOLEY what about sds 8??

WIRECOOLEY hi! and it is possible to put these characteristical sounds of the sdsv into the sds9?
Hi. Do you have a diagram of the power supply for simmons sds9?
Hi Viktor. No, I haven´t it. Sorry

I did not like the SDS 9 tortoise style pads I preferred the last great flat.bottom ones from the SDS -6 which still have
