All that rack stuff! Nightmare-ish... Of course nowadays any young man with an Alesis kit and a laptop filled with tons of free library will laugh. I got a Simmons MTX-9 add-on set because of Bill Bruford; lots of fun - but also cost me an arm and a leg. Only to find out a lot of the sounds I had in my head needed five times more expensive gear to be done. But boy, was it an exciting time back then!
Bill Bruford was (is) so good with the band YES (Fragile for instance?). I had one of the first Simmons SDSV kits about 1980-81 and I got it delivered to Solid State Logic (the famous high end recording studio console company where I worked for 7 years). This SDS5 kit caused a case of 'Simmons wrist' as the pads had a plywood backing and an acrylic type top so all the vibrations went back into your wrist (hence the expression, "Simmon's wrist ) which could have affected your wrist with all that. Later on I bought a Simmons SDS9 kit which had the softer pads and was better to play. Since 1998 I have had a Roland TD10 drum kit with mesh heads but obviously prefer acoustic kits which I mostly use (Sonor Phonic and Yamaha Custom maple).
Electronic drums are not supposed to be acoustic drums, though - too many companies are into that - they ignore the whole synth part - weird crazy sounds - that’s all a part of percussion
Johnny ~ Yep! 'Up North'. l was blessed to catch that Earthworks show, in '88 Vancouver BC. One of the 3x l've seen Bill live. My favourite drummer to this day! Yes, Genesis, Crimson & ELP are _STILL_ some of my favourite music too!
brufords playing reminds me alot of a band i was in back in jr high. similar style to the drummer we had, in a band, we were keen on intrumentals, like the ventures, etc. our biggest song was tequila, a cover by a band called the champs. very bruford"ish" drum sound on that
"Should I wait for translation"...Cool video, really awkward interview, Bill looks so bored and annoyed...I love Bill's electronic years...Groundbreaking stuff.
Electronic drums finally are getting close to being as good as acoustic drums for $10,000. But there still not there. Hell of a drummer, but more of a show man.

cool - like it!!
who's the group he's playing with at the end? Great stuff!
I recognise what he plays at around 7:30, I think it's a piece on the first Earthworks album?
I just checked and yes, it's called Up North :)

Intro is hilarious to watch those two...
How many times does that guy say "Yeah"?
cool vid
Ohooooo, King Crimso.......
I played a pearl hybrid set and it includes guitar bass and piano sounds so I could program my own band and play drums So it was great
What the! I was in Japan then I never knew about this, but I was working 12 hrs a day too
At the time it only cost as much as a house, took a year to learn the basics and 14 hours to set up for a gig..Bargain!

l _LOVE_ the Bruf!! Always have.......Always will! and he's wearing VANS. xD
sounds depeche I likey
Actually the band music is very 80s King Crimson-y, but I can also see the connection to people like David Sylvian or Billy Currie.
I think Billy needs some Suntory Whiskey while ripping a call girl's stockings.
man of culture
@@nanocyde_artist Sounds like you could use some Suntory, while some one rips your stockings bunched up your ass.

I get more expression from an Amazon shipping box. BB was lost searching for a voice, which he never found.
