25 SURPRISING Alternative Uses For Everyday Things
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- With a little creativity, you can come up with useful alternative uses for everyday things. Although some objects (like duct tape) have an incredible range of potential uses, these sometimes weren't what those things were originally intended for. Other things (like Listerine) may have even had a slightly disturbing origin. (In Listerine's case, it was used as a floor cleaner.) Either way, here are 25 Surprising Alternative Uses For Everyday Things Found Around Your House!
25 Surprising Alternative Uses For Everyday Things | List25
Duct tape - You knew this would be on here, didn't you?
Febreze - Does more than just keeps your house smelling fresh
Lemons - They're like nature's duct tape.
Squeegee - Useful AND fun to say...squeegee.
Aspirin - It's kinda cool when medicines do more than they were made for.
Silly putty - More like, space putty, amirite?
Q-tips - Just don't do that before putting it in your ear.
Mouthwash - It can kill germs OUTSIDE your mouth too.
Potato chips - Delicious delicious kindling.
Tennis balls - Then use them to play with your dog.
Butter - Just don't reuse the butter afterwards. Gross.
Mustard - Even I was surprised that it could be used for that.
Baking soda - Just make sure you change it out every so often.
Coffee - Smells way better than Raid.
Eggs - Which came first, the chicken or the dirty leather?
Newspapers - Also good for cleaning windows.
Olive oil - Also good for dating Popeye...wait...
Dryer sheets - Probably not the static on your radio though.
Coffee filters - Lights, camera, coffee (filters).
Vinegar - Useful, but would not make for a great superpower.
Makeup brushes - And they're great at applying makeup! You knew that already, didn't you?
Shower caps - Again, probably don't want to reuse these for their intended purpose after.
Hair straighteners - Please don't actually kill two birds. Just stick to ironing your clothes.
Cooking spray - Or dirt, if you don't live where there is snow.
Soda tabs - You can't spell "art" without sodatabs...and an extra R...and removing a few letters.

You can use a normal fork from a kitchen drawer to remove any debris from your power outlets.
paper clips for the deeper pieces
Omg totally works thank you!!!
Scott Small some people might take you seriously you could FROM doing this btw
Very bad
Omg please specify to use disposable (plastic) metal utensils and paper clips will give an enlightening experience
5:02 Don't apologize Mike.
I subscribed to hear your puns.
It's a pretty terrible pun, though.
I mean, eggcelent? That's so overused.
I think you mean "over _done."_ 😄
lazyperfectionist1 *insert Candace Flinn laugh here*
Great video!!! Here are some extras, Mike and Tristan:
-Make cuts to make a "plus sign" or more elaborate hole in tennis balls to put chair feet in. They will slide without noise, and not damage the floor. (Maybe this is a Taiwan thing, as we have mostly marble or tile floors--carpet would get smelly because of the humidity.) Great for wooden floors, too.
-Use newspapers to wash windows. Get your Windex or equivalent and have at it! The ink might come off on your hands, but doesn't seem to affect the windows. (Unless you have Windows 10--that's always a problem.)
-If you get a cold and blow your nose a lot, turn your full trash can upside-down--maybe into an empty trash can. The already dry ones at the bottom (now top) can be peeled open and used again. "Save a tree".
-Gasoline can be used to clean bicycle or motorcycle chains/sprockets, goo on walls from something taped, and many other things. It can also be a fire hazard, so be careful. Works great on your hands if you get pine sap or black walnut juice on them.
-If you shuck corn ears, use a rubber band in an embarrassingly masturbatory motion to remove the silk.
-If you dry corn ears to make "parched corn", twist the kernels off into a screen strainer and then use the wind from your A/C heat pump to blow away the chaff. Works like a charm.
-Put your shoulder against a door before touching the knob to prevent getting static-shocked if it's cold and dry in the winter.
-Stop the washing machine before it spins the last time and hang your clothes up around the room in the cold/dry winter to add moisture to the air. A watering can for the carpet will help (and basically dry immediately) so don't be shy.
-Cut a cardboard box to create a piece big enough to cover about half of your car's radiator in -10F or colder temperatures. It reduces the efficiency of the radiator to allow the heater to work. Remember to take it out when the temps come up closer to freezing.
A woman needs two tools. WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use WD40. If it does move and shouldn't, use the tape!
And a good sharp knife.
WD-40is not a lubricant! The WD stands for water displacement. So if you use it as a lubricant, it will displace the moisture and gum up what you wanted to lubricate.
Newspapers can be good for cleaning your mirrors when you put alcohol on it and rub the glass instead of using Windex!
I do this :) - Juan
Newspapers will also soak up pee. So...if your dog isn't quite potty trained...
Seriously it's better than paper towels.
you should do a list "mike's 25 puns."
I think you're underselling Mike.
Krusader Omg yessss! these List25: 25 of mike's best puns~
lazyperfectionist1 maybe one list of puns a week
Or a list of 25 list
Krusader *2,500 puns
your videos are always halirious but strangely helpful too. thanks for making learning fun.
You can also use shower caps as an easy way to cover bowls of food.
Roaring Rayquaza or you could just wash your dishes you lazy fuck
Roaring Rayquaza Roasted
Roaring Rayquaza I think he's talking about when you have leftovers
Daaaaaayum
Uhhh... That's a pretty expensive way to cover bowls of food....
Also a shower cap is good for covering up the smoke alarm in your dorm room so you can smoke weed...
You forgot to mention that Vinegar can be a good deodorizer too.
Keep washing your clothes but the smell won't leave? Soak them in vinegar before you wash them. Can't get that odor of sweat out of your mattress? Saturate it with vinegar, blot with paper towels until semi dry, pour some baking powder on it, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Vinegar also makes a good degreaser for stoves, microwaves and other surfaces.
One of the few things that gets cat pee out the first washing
Thank you mike your puns made my day !
Vinegar and newsprint makes the perfect glass cleaner
love your energy. makes the videos even more fun to watch
Thank you so much! ~Mike
i use nail polish for water proofing electronics. ex: opened the TV remote. paint the PCB with nail polish. put it back together. now it can survive kids spilling soda. wine and more.
dryer sheets work nicely for burnt or dried on food in pots and pans. just soak with hot water and a dryer sheet. it softens the food making it easier to clean than just soaking alone.
Handy little tricks 👍
Great list again guys
You can dry flowers(mixed one's) put them in a glass bowel and it acts as a posh fragrance to your said room 👍👍👍
The dryer sheets can be tied to a fan. Doing this made my college dorm smell great!
Lmfaoo dont lie... it was to hide the weed smell
They're also good for preventing bug bites if you don't have a can of Off Spray(or something similar)
My favorite alternate use is using a pillow case to clean a ceiling fan. Slip the case on the fan blade and then hold it closed as you slide if off of the blade so it runs and wipes away dust and the dust is collected inside the pillow case instead of falling all over everything.
I reuse pickle jars for canning my own foods, coffee cans for plant pots, and I use the pop tabs from soda cans, loop them over a hanger hook and then hang another hanger on the tab making a closet saver
Vinegar's also a life saver for getting hard water stains off of wine glasses. You just take vinegar, pour it onto the rougher backing that comes on most dish sponges, and start scrubbing. Anyway, thanks for the ideas List 25! I'll definitely be putting a few of them to use!
Distilled white vinegar is one of the best cleaning supplies you can get, especially when it comes to getting rid of mold. Has hundreds of other uses as well like being really good for cleaning monitors/tv screens (just dilute it with some distilled water)
You can also use the newspapers for an absorber in the trash. Take some read newspapers and put them at the bottom of the trash bin. It'll absorb any liquids that fall in.
Pour baking soda, a couple drops of Dawn dish soap & vinegar (in that order) down any sink or drain. Wait 10-15 min. then rinse with hot water. It removes clogs, keeps them from forming and removes oders. Plus it's fun to watch it bubble up like a volcano 😊
Hilarious and useful video guys. Thank you! I also use the soda tabs to make more hanging space in my closet. Just put the hanger hook through one of the holes, let it slide down and hang another hanger in the other hole. It's like those hangers that have a little hook for another hanger.
I heard a joke about a squeegee once : A bunch of girls were kissing the bathroom mirrors and the princeapal called the girls and the janitor to the bathroom. The princeapal told the janitor to show them how he cleaned the mirrors. He took the squeegee and dipped it in the toilet and then cleaned the mirrors with it!
can this be the comment that gets unnatural number of likes?
Shreya Bhallamudi I don't think so...
Shreya Bhallamudi I liked it
Thanks List25 Team! Definitely gonna use some of these especially the keyboard and mouthwash ones!
Just don't mix them up and pour mouthwash onto your keyboard. ~Mike
Always a good thing to know.
Don't be sorry for your puns.
dryer sheets... I would rub them on my German Shepherd and every time we went camping she never got bit by any mosquitoes!
dental floss makes excellent sewing thread. It is extra strong in comparison too. Also coffee filters in place of paper towels or rags for cleaning mirrors. No weird streaks.
*sees thumbnail* yes. Let me clean my ears with a lit candle
That's not quite right. Notice the arrow is pointing from the q-tip to the candle and not the other way around. ~Mike
list25 i know, it was just a joke XD love your vids though!
I liked the coffee filter idea. I'm going to uses that next time I take pictures.
Toothpicks are also good for lighting candles with short wicks or in jars. Just light the end. And peanut butter is also great for removing gum from hair. Newspaper cleans windows without streaks & dryer sheets are great for cleaning greasy pots & pans.
You need to check out how people are using hair straighteners to get high.
skinny lee rosin? 😂
Kellyanne Conway was here.
I didn't see her. Her ninja classes are really paying off.
1:13 it will eLEMONate foul odors
GODDAMNIT! You beat me to it.
I did not know febreze killed flies just knew it smelled good
unscented baby wipes work great on cleaning a dirty glass without streaks
cooking spray works great on serpentine belt s too. prevents cracking and stops them from being noisy.
WD-40 actually works better.
Try it!
#17 Tristan: "Why am I doing this. Oh shit, and I'll have to watch he doesn't burn the house down."
Hair bobbles can be used to keep your phone out of the way by attaching it to your arm grate for cooking if the institutions on your phone
Vinegar is also perfect for cat and dog pee.
If your pet pees on some towels or your clothes? Throw in a half cup of vinegar with your laundry and the normal detergent and the smell will go away
Vinegar is also good in the washer. Sometimes (especially in summer) towels get a seriously nasty smell that fabric softener only masks. After you throw your towels in and your laundry soap add a cup of white vinegar. There’s a chance you might need to do it twice. Especially if you live in a warm, humid climate. Generally I have found that one wash is enough. In order to keep your towels from getting the funky smell just add the vinegar each time you wash.
If you have a shower curtain vinegar is also great for getting soap scum off them.
I found out the hard way that sunscreen will stain white clothes. Make a paste of baking soda and peroxide. Apply with an old toothbrush (or a cheap new one for this purpose) and let it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse the dried up paste and your whites should be white again. My stain was extremely dark so I had to do it a couple of times. In the end I was able to get it quite a bit lighter than what it was.
Vinegar & newspaper cleans glass/mirrors without residue or streaking. Vinegar & baking soda down your drain to refresh and clean. Afterwards, put small pieces of lemon or orange rind to deodorize it. Vinegar to clean coffee makers. USED coffee and egg shells for compost. Dryer sheets to clean/wipe blinds to keep dust from gathering as quickly. Shower caps also make great bowl covers vs plastic wrap. Plastic vegetable bags from the grocery store make great paint pan liners; just slip one over each end.
Next list: 25 things matt should rub on his face XD
Hey that was good. I learned a few new tips. That mustard was surprise. Thanks. :)
Glad you liked it :) - Juan

Crumbled Newspaper in wet shoes will dry them out within a few hours.
Newspaper can make an excellent insulator in the cold, if stuffed between layers of clothing, especially to stop the wind from cutting through clothing.
Doggie bags can make a waterproof sock liner on a bike ride in the rain.
On the tennis ball topic: If you cut a small X in them and apply them to furniture legs like chairs and ETC...they make great scuff protectants. It's primarily useful if you have linoleum floors and other easily prone to "blemishing" type materials used in the room. You'd be surprised at the fact that you don't need expensive moving systems too couches even glide effortlessly.
If you can chew on the skin of a lemon for about 10 seconds, it'll freshen your breath. ;)
This sounds like a trap..
It doesn't taste good at all, but it works well lol
BTW nice channel, just subbed :D
Yay! Welcome! - Juan
Thanks buddy - appreciate it!
Just wanna confirm that the squeegee really does work at removing pet hair. Even after vacuuming, I removed a ton of dog hair using a squeegee on the rug.
Already running late when got notification .. work can wait my curiosity cannot! Thanks Mike!!
Tennis balls are also great for using for foot cramps and also use two of them , put on lower back and slower make them go up the sides of spines. Helps with back abunch
Newspaper makes good pet substrate since they're more hygienic and easy to replace plus some pets such as rats are allergic to sawdust.
Newspaper is full of crapp inks.
Sirus Depends on what newspaper you buy.
white toothpaste gets crayon/marker/permit mark off walls.
WTH is "permit mark"? Oh, you mean PERMANENT MARKER, don't you?
Have a cap full of either strong apple cider (non alcoholic) or apple vinegar, it will get rid of your hiccups almost instantly. Well it does for me at least
I discovered that a quick swig of any carbonated soda will do the same thing.
shovels can be a good alternate suppository
Cereal also makes a good ice cream topping. Or is the ice cream just the milk? Hmm...
water and vinegar is a great general cleaner
thnx again guys. best shaving cream i have ever used is hair conditioner and it leaves my skin so soft hehe
If you eat Pringles, don't just throw away the tops.
You can make personalised coasters out of them.
What you do is take your pringles lid, put it over a picture or pattern you would like to show off, cut the size and shape out... Stick the picture or whatever into the underside of the lid with a piece of thick cardboard (also cut out in the size and shape of the lid) to "snack" it in place and there you go... A set of coasters all for fairly cheap with pics of your favorite things displayed on them.
If you make sure not to glue or some how make each picture permanent, you can always switch pics out when they wear out, become an ex,the season changes, whatever.
Used fabric softener sheets works well in cleaning your television screen and computer screen also can be used to dust off electronics.
For tennis balls, there is another usage. It is to prevent your toddler from entering a room. Just cut a hole instead, so it goes over the doorknob, and to get into the room, just squeeze the tennis ball to open the door. The toddler won't get in, but you can.
#21 Heart disease runs in my family. I am 53 years old and I have been taking low dose aspirin since I was 45 as a preventative measure.
#08 Dryer sheets are also good as a mosquito repellent. Wipe a sheet on bare skin and the mosquitos won't bite. You also smell good. :-)
#05 I use a 1" paint brush to clean my keyboard.
Great list! :-)
Empty pill bottle into a in scent holder
1, empty small pill bottle
2,pour clean cat litter into it
3, put small hole into top of the pill bottle, just small enough to fit the in scent
4, put the the top back on
5, decorate as desired
Tie the end of your pillow case to keep it from sliding off
Toothpaste cleans silver. Pour kitty litter into your kid's wet snow boots - they will dry overnight. Dryer sheets
will sweeten a musty drawer. Put a few sheets in with stored bedding to keep them smelling fresh.
Crayons as a candle, dryer sheets also work great for getting anything sticky off your skin
I have 2 tips for you. 1. Dryer sheets are also good for repelling gnats just rub it on your face around you eyes nose and ears and gnats will not bother you. 2. Need to make a hinge stop squeaking and don't have WD-40? Rub some Vaseline on the hinge and that noise is no more.
Lemons are so versatile, I think you could do a separate list for alternative uses for them :-)
You can use on your screens on your devices or TVs coffee filters or use bounce sheets to wipe away dust.
Here's another one for cooking spray: Spray your plastic food containers with Pam cooking spry, before putting anything with tomato sauce, or barbecue sauce in them. It makes them less likely to stain, and easier to clean.
Being from the north, snow was always problematic for those with a satellite dish. Then, we discovered that you can periodically spray the dish with cooking spray prior to a storm and the snow slides right off. Please note: do not spray the sensing portion of the dish.
Another one for. dryer sheets is if you have no mosquito repellent, you can take a couple dryer sheets and rub them on your arms and face and it will keep you from getting bit! It's one I use all the time in the summer!
I already used a curling iron years ago to make creases in pants and shirts.
newspapers are great for cleaning windows and mirrors- they tend to not leave lint; windex cleans lots of stuff like grime on cash registers and other stuff at work- don't know why but if you spray it and leave for a minute or 2, it cleans lots of stuff that is harder to clean otherwise; I like using cheap washcloths, like the 18 pack of utility cloths at walmart because they are slightly scratchy so they do a slight exfoliation while I shower; flies don't like the smell of lemon, so lemon cleaners help if you have flies hanging around; if you see a Japanese jumping spider in your house, leave it- they are cute and less aggressive than other spiders plus they don't make webs, they come out at night and catch bugs on the walls and ceiling (if there were flies on your ceiling before bed but they are gone in the morning, its probably because Japanese jumping spiders got them)- all other spiders are dead meat or relocated outdoors; I use cups and a piece of thin cardboard to catch bugs (like honey bees or moths etc) and release outside- put cup over bug, slide cardboard under cup opening and voila; I use vinegar or salt and water to disinfect in my kitchen, often after cleaning raw meat; baking soda and salt mixed with dishsoap scrubs sinks and bathtubs great without harmful chemicals; a baby hairbrush or toothbrush with a little shampoo is great for scrubbing large pores in the shower- do this near the end of showering to help stop blackheads from forming (near the end, the oils in the pores are loosened from being steamed and soaked while you showered)- I started doing that one after proactiv started selling a $20 brush for cleaning pores- works great!
Newspapers clean windows and mirrors really well and don’t leave lint behind
Mike your a riot!😄
baking soda and vinegar down a clogged pipe will help clean it out. First pour about half a box of baking soda down your drain then add about half a bottle of white vinegar, let sit for roughly 15 minutes then rinse with hot water, most clogs are gone. You may have to repeat a couple of times for really tough clogs but this does work. Plus it is a green way to clean out your pipes no harsh chemicals.
Dryer lint is great kindling to start a fire. Vinegar rinse is good to remove chlorine from your hair when you swim a lot. Vinegar is also great for sunburns.
Spray vinegar into your dishwasher to remove calcium stains for city water, and put a 1/2 in layer of baking soda in the bottom of a litter box to prevent smell and no stick dumping when replacing litter
Axe is a good one.
If you like someone it'll help you smell good
If you dont like someone add a lighter and it'll take care of the problem c:
3Fekt hahaaaa hair spray .fix your car or flaaammeethrowerrrr!!!!!! Woosh!!
Baking soda and vinegar to unclog a toilet - I used it when by accident a bar of soap went into the toilet, it helped break it. Not sure if it work for other unclogs, but it helped with this situation.
OMG YOu two are Gators! I love it! I saw the shirt and just remembered where I saw one!! And the colors...yeah, how could I not love you two!!!!
You can use toothbrush holders to put pens and pencils in for your purse, backpack, glove compartment, etc. They won't leave marks on your stuff that way.
Re: Cooking spray.
While watching a NASCAR race, they did a "behind the scenes" segment which showed the pit crews spraying the front of the cars down with Pam. I thought I would try it on the ram of the garbage compactor. (LSS, someone threw out a whole case of expired cheap cooking spray, so I got to try it free.) Worked great for cleaning the ram off between bin changes while it lasted.
Also... vinegar, vodka and water. Excellent cleaning agent. The vodka kills germs while the vinegar kills odors.
Baking soda is also useful as a non-abrasive scouring powder. It's water soluble as well, so it leaves less residue.
When it rains, we put plastic grocery bags on our shoes before we go pick vegetables and fruit. Toothpaste with baking soda works great for cleaning the tarnish off silver jewelry and silverware. Spitting snuff/tobacco on a bee or wasp sting helps with taking the stinger out of the wound. Meat tenderizer works too. If you have any flying insect in the house turn off the lights and light a candle. The bugs will fly through the flame and be killed.
Has anyone else thought of using a tape measure as either a rescue line or a fishing rod?
a few years ago my mom's cat Phoebe was jumping around like something kept biting her in the butt. I finally figured out it was static. so I rubbed her down with a dryer sheet then a damp cloth for residue. worked perfect.
Hair straighteners also work well for sealing Mylar bags.
If you live alone, then the inside of the outer door handle makes for a very convenient key hanger (assuming it's not one of those brittish/american round knob handles).
XD DEAD AT THE COOKING SPRAY LOL
Coffee filters are great for cleaning mirrors and windows. No lint left behind.
This is my favorite life hack. it is a great survival light when you have no electricity
1 empty water bottle ( or any container
1 bottle of bleach
1 funnel
a knife
human urine.
step 1.) fill bottle 1/4 of the way with your own urine.
step 2.) fill up till it is halfway with bleach.
step 3.) shake bottle, then poke holes into the cap.
step 4.) wait for the reaction to take place and you will have a light when you desperately need it, in a survival situation. It's best in a small room and really lights everything up.
another use for mustard: pain relief of a burn. I'm allergic to aloe, which is in almost all burn pain ointment so I use mustard and it works quite well.
makeup brushes are also great for brushing away eraser dust, especially helpful for art, as using your hand or blowing can mess up the drawing.
Something people have forgotten about is baling wire. It's even more useful than duct tape in many circumstances. Every home should have a roll of duct tape, a roll of baling wire, some two part epoxy tubes, and Gorilla glue.
If you've burned the bottom of a stainless steel pot or pan, use a drill mounted cup type wire brush with a piece of Scotch Bright pushed onto the wire ends to remove the layer of damage. This modified wire brush works in any situation where a wire brush is too abrasive and a Scotch Bright pad isn't abrasive enough.
I like cedar starter shingles to use as fire starters. They are inexpensive and work very well.
I use twist ties with my ear phones. It keeps them from getting tangled.
