I know this was an excellent exhibition race, but I noticed as the Miss Bud entered the corners the driver would accelerate. Was this acceleration to “ Set or plant” the hull, or create a large rooster tail of spray or just maintain position with the other boat due to the longer distance around the outside of the course? Thanks!
Not sure on the speeds excatly, probably about 130 tops. They are taking it easy. No sense in damaging a boat, killing a driver or blowing up one of the expensive engines that are fewer and fewer every day. The hydroplane museum did a great job restoring these boats! Absolutely beautiful
What a aqua Hot Rod ...! Hanging to the outside looking for that Clean Water , keeping the nose up she's got the Power alright . How I miss Bernie Little . R.I.P. MY MAN ..
@@nordicpride9708 yes it was. I was the last person to get his autograph before he got into the Miss Budweiser. I watched the hole thing unfold that day and the race wasn't the same without him and the Miss Budweiser that day in July 1982.
Great video. I was at that event in 1980. Dean Chenoweth was an AWESOME driver! The races between him and Bill Muncey were always amazing to watch.
Most exciting and fun boats to watch. Open cockpit, no turbine, and load as hell!
Born in seattle and raised in alaska but every summer went to lake washington to visit cousins and watch the hydros since 1962

I used to watch hydroplane racing at Belle Isle in the 1970s. Miss watching them.
WOW!!!! I LOVED GETTING THE SAME VIEW pilot had. Awesome video!!!!
Its crazy how much power to spare that engine has.
And put a camera in ALL the boats. Fantastic view from the driver's seat. That... and my cat was going insane chasing the straps on his helmet!!!
One of the most hated boats in racing, because it won so many races. Even now, I am rooting for the blue blaster!
Not a chance the Miss Budweiser was the best then the Squire Shop then the Atlas Van Lines
What kind of speeds do they run in these exhibition races?

@@nordicpride9708 yeah I'm guessing the nitrous bottles are non existant now on these boats as well. This was still a great display of these boats!

Wow I worked on Bernie’s aircraft back in the day at st. Pete Clearwater airport. Haven’t seen his name in along time
@@johnwickle4159 That's awesome John ,... Bernie was Budweiser Racing . His team dominated the Hydro's back in the day .
When are they going to start?
If you pass him you lose your ride?
Who’s driving? David?
Was the Griffin power in this boat
Yes that’s the Griffon bud that Dean Chenoweth drove. Believe it’s the same boat he was killed in on this course sadly.
