    I’m rewatching the movie right now and something scary is going on. It’s most likely just my mind playing tricks on me but a long while ago I remember watching the scene of aunt Josephine dying and the way I remember it is completely different. First of all, I remember her being on the right side of the screen. Second, she didn’t scream - only smiled as she reached out her hand. Last thing I remember differently is her actually being shown EATEN ALIVE by the leeches. I explicitly remember the leeches jumping out of the water, destroying the boat, and tearing Josephine apart. This is actually some crazy Mandela effect shit 😰

      Yea sorry but Neil is going to do far better. Neil has shown time and time again that he can play wickedly evil characters, he is a far better choice for Count Olaf than Jim Carey. Jim Carey relies too much on comedy which is what ruins this portrayal of Olaf. Hes supposed to be hated not loved.

      Grell Sutcliff You think so? I thought his role on American Horror Story Freakshow was lackluster. I don't have anything against him but i just can't look at him in this role seriously. I feel like he belongs on sitcoms where he shot to fame. Not to say hes deserving of these roles but it just doesn't do anything for me.

    • @ggoodd32503
      @ggoodd32503 7 років тому +3

      Grell Sutcliff Well first of all in the books Olaf actually acts kinda silly now and then. And even if he was silly to the point of likability, its not how olaf acts that makes him detestable. It's what he does. He kills everyone basically. I don't remember for sure but I think even the loyal white-faced ladies got killed cause of him. He's always one step ahead and kind of a total coward dispite that fact. An undefeatable coward with a goal. Being comical won't make him more likable when it gets deeper in the story😂.
      And as for this new guy...have you actually watches the trailers..? Maybe he was good in a few other movies but from what most people seem to see with these trailers hes really not a good olaf actor. Not to mention the look looks totally strange on him. Carrey undoubtedly would give a show you cant forget and also his type cast was perfect. That's the main reasons they say Carrey's Olaf is way better

      The children scorn Aunt Josephine for her cowardice for giving Olaf custody of the children but given the scenario they were in, she had the right idea because the children were at least able to get to safety by getting on Olafs boat while the leaches were chewing on Josephines boat. It wasn't the kids best idea to say that Aunt Josephine was going to tell the authorities RIGHT IN FRONT OF SOMEONE THAT THEY KNOW IS A MURDERER

    I really feel like Jim Carrey's Olaf could have been a genuinely terrifying villain. This scene was probably the most terrifying and creepy Carrey was. If he had kept the same style he did around 1:20, I think he could have been a genuine threat and the movie could have had sequels. The biggest problem is that Carrey was doing too much comedy in one moment and being genuinely creepy in the next, and his comedic moments kinda took away from the fear in the creepy moments.

    difference between book, series and film.
    Film: Aunt Josephine is selfish and sacrifices the children for her own life and her love of grammar made her die
    Book: Pretty much the same as the film but instead of getting left behind on a boat she actually gets pushed by Count Olaf and Count Olaf also corrects her grammar
    Series: Aunt Josephine stands up for herself and becomes fearless and formidable again and she gets corrected by Count Olaf along with Count Olaf and she was pushed into the leeches like in the book
    If Aunt Josephine comes down to this comment and corrects my grammar i'm going to be very pissed XD

    It's odd when you compare Aunt Josephine in the Netflix series to this. Ok, perhaps Meryl Streep is a more well known actress than Alfre Woodard (who, btw, is an accomplished actress, despite what I think of her performance in the show) but the production seemed to put much more effort into her character in the film. Just look at the costume, the hair, the make up on Streep. Everything about her is designed to work with the cartoonish, somewhat archaic surroundings of the film/world. In the series Josephine seems oddly out of place, her clothes are pretty modern and unremarkable in a way which doesn't emphasise anything about the character but is just forgettable. Woodard does her best and hams it up but she recites some of her lines so oddly compared to Streep, who is dramatic but doesn't push it too far.
