Im glad your dad said to take it down to the studs. Hopefully you will get a better look at the ground underneath to see if it is perpetually wet. You are very blessed to have your parents. I'm 60 & my mom passed suddenly when i was 17 & then my dad passed suddenly 10 years later. Keep warm! 👋😊☕️🙏✌️🇱🇷

That cabin is the coolest thing I've ever seen, you have to save it! It'll be a lot of work but think of the end result, and the way it's laid out now it could easily be a two family cabin or a cabin with a separate area for guests- two bathrooms are a huge advantage when you have company. I absolutely love it!

12:30 I believe that's where the propane heater used to be. The two square holes to the outside, the bottom was for fresh air, the top for burner exhaust. There should be grills covering those holes, but they are likely long gone.

Loved the video with your mom and dad! Chicken and dumplings looked delicious. Jillian looks fantastic w/ everything she went through and Blakely is beautiful and Harrison as usual is precious! Blake in my opinion I’d wait a little while till it warms up and I’m sure you and your dad will talk about it now and this will give you time to make a decision that will feel good to you and Jillian. You certainly have a few different ideas to go with. Easy for people to say tear it totally down and start over but with the cost of everything right now it’s a hard decision. The air stream if it could be fixed up without putting a ton of money into it would be nice to use to take off and camp different areas with the children and make some great memories. In time it’s all going to come together. It’s absolutely beautiful out there I love the property and that was your ultimate reason for buying for buying there! Many blessings to your family of 4 now! 💙🩷

That super harsh environment is particularly hard on structures. It is especially true when places are built outside of building codes. People tend to build a half assed structure unless forced to do it right. And that's not unique ri Alaska. I know of a guy in Indiana doing a renovation that smacks of someone who knows just enough ro build it stupid. Your dad is a great resource for you.

My husband viewed a cabin when we moved from one province to another. He said it looked dusty- it was moldy!
Chicken coup board is greatly affected by moisture, and mold. If you find a good buyer for the antique pieces of furniture, you may have enough money to build a new cabin. Look out for coal, when it burns, it leaves gold nuggets behind… for real!

My advice as a 50 years experience construction professional: salvage what you can from the cabin, then demo it. I doubt much will be salvageable, but keep and re-use or sell what you can. As to the Airstream, it's probably the most valuable object on the property, outside of the value of the underlying land itself. Despite it's poor condition, vintage Airstreams are much sought after collector's items and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of collectors out there who would gladly pay you good money to take it off your hands so they could lovingly restore it or customize it. I have been following your channel since your first visit to the property and I read the comments as well, so I know you have been advised on this matter for months now, I'm just adding my voice to the chorus. You showed us the Airstream medallion installed by the manufacturer on the trailer in one of your earliest videos (if not the first for this new property) and many folks, including myself, have already looked it up and many have posted here in the comments information they found in a quick and casual search. My advice, whether asked for or not, is to spend an hour or so of time researching this minor goldmine and learn for yourself it's value. You might also try searching for online Airstream owners/fan groups. I know you are a busy man with a growing family and a new baby girl (congrats, BTW!) and that how you spend your time is something you must prioritize, but please, don't ignore the Airstream. And, FWIW, I am not a big fan of Airstreams, but because I *AM* interested in all things RV related, I have a pretty good idea of what your Airstream can be worth, if you do the research to find out more about it and then market it to the right demographic.

I saw a youtube video once about an airstream rehab outfit in Seattle I think. Anyway, that could be one way to go if you don't want to rehab it yourself (and it is hard according to one guy I watched try to do it himself, all I can say is CURVED WALLS!). It would be sad to see you sell it but I suppose that would be easier.

Young man, the cabin is just ply wood. Who would build a cabin just using ply wood?

Thanks for watching and joining us on our adventure 😊! Plywood cabins in Alaska are pretty common due to cost and no restrictions in most places 😊.

Here's an idea on what you can do with that airstream yes renovate it to look like new but with the floors put in a hatch so you can use it as a place to keep warm while ice fishing, I've seen other vlogs (none from Alaska) of people doing that with trailers
