- For the first time in a very long time, there's hope again at Madison Square Garden. As young stars R.J. Barrett, Julius Randle, and Jalen Brunson are leading the way on the world's biggest basketball stage, one name is conspicuously missing from Madison Square Garden during the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Kristaps Porzingis was supposed to be the one to lead the once-storied Knicks back to the promised land. But, as we find out far too often in the NBA, things don't usually go according to plan. On today's episode, the man they once called "The Unicorn" joins friend Ariel Helwani to look back on the highs and lows of his time in New York and also to look forward to what is still a very bright future for one of the game's most fascinating players.

The fourth overall pick in 2015, Porzingis has also played for New York and Dallas. He is a 1x All-Star and is also a massive fan of mixed martial arts.

Man always loved KP. He's such a pro and very nice, down to earth dude. Had a great bounce back season
KP will make a great addition to the NY knicks. NBA tracking data indicated KP was one of the best rim protectors and shot defenders in the league. The combination of his height, ability to create offense, shooting efficiency along with range, made him a nightmare matchup for many teams last season. KP, Randle and Brunson would make a formidable trio.
Randle and KP lol, it’d have to be a straight swap for those 2… or at least it SHOULD be 🤷🏽♂️
@Darren de Souza Don"t understand the lol? KP is in his option year...can opt out of his contract this season, and pursue a new long term contract with whomever. No need for a sign and trade. The Knicks would have to shed some salary though.

Shot 39% from 3, blocks about the same amount of shots as Mitch. More mature now - his game, body and attitude. Opens up the floor with his shooting. Perfect for this team. Get his ass back here.

KP’s situation in Dallas is proof that for all of the outside criticism, a lot of these players are harder on themselves.

It would benefit him to play less minutes, so he can stay healthy. Perfect situation would be if he took a lesser role kinda like a 6th man playing like 20ish minutes a game, have him switching around between Obi, Randle, and Mitchell. Even if you had to trade one of them for him, he is so versatile he can work with any lineup. Space the floor, give Randle or Obi there spots. Or run a big lineup with Mitchell, shot block city. But he would have to agree to a lesser role. But the minutes he would play we would be deadly, constant scoring options and defensive help. It’s a no brainer

Randle for KP straight up is probably not enough, I would love to see Knicks S&T KP for Evan Fournier and Trevor Keels with 1 protected 1st. That would be very fair. Knicks decline Rose’s player option and we’d have the room easily

I always felt if he kept working hard, consulting with the right folks to limit injury at his height same way for the most part KD has been healthy prior to golden state injury. I felt he had the realistic potential to be a younger version of a KD. I know that’s a very tall order but that’s why I said a version of. He has the shooting, defense, size, etc.

I don't know where he will fit with the Knicks, though. A frontcourt of KP and Randle will make their defense a lot weaker. Plus, I am unsure if he can adjust to Thibs' grind and defense philosophy. Unless they trade Randle for another star player, I am not sure he will work out in NY.
KP plays the 4 and 5. The twin towers in Washington has worked well. Frankly I would like to see KP mostly at the 4 in NY, and at the 5 with Topin.
@@garolehmejian6052 LOL They will get destroyed on defense. Toppin has no strength to go up against guys like Embiid and Jokic. And KP at this point in his career doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard PFs of the NBA.
@Joseph East. Lol..Jokic..he is a nightmare for any player. Would like to see Mitch and KP in the front court. I guess you haven't watched many Wiz games, nor the euro games. He does play power forward, and some center, accumulating around 24 ppg, 9 reb., 2 blocks., 2+ assists not to mention all the hockey passes that don't appear on the stat line. The guy is frequently at the free throw line shooting at almost 90%. I don't have any reservations about him being impactful on both ends of the court...his PPA stat speaks loudly about that also. He scored 41 points in the win last season against Minnesota with both their bigs, Edward's and Gobert, on the court. Had 33 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists in the win against Boston on March 28th. And the list goes on. The NBA tracking data has him as one of the best centers in east. Give the guy a break!
