Basically Aes Sedai (the Women from the White Tower) make a magical vow that they can't physically or mentally brake. Any other person that haven't been initiated on that ceremony can use the power as they see fit, for good or bad, that includes every men.

That's why the visualisation of the male channeling has the black threads surrounding the white. Can't wait to see your reactions to the remaining four episodes.

Think of the One Power as a huge ocean that splits into two rivers. Women can use one river, the man can use the second one. Three thousand years the Dragon ignored the women's plan to carefully isolate and study the Dark One for a proper method of disposal and decided to basically say screw it I am going to go punch him directly in the face. This allowed the Dark One to essentially pollute the male river. So now every time every time a man try to uses the One Power it's essentially the equivalent of trying to drink or was with toxic river water. You can do it but it's not a good idea
Although they are shown to the viewer, as is hinted at in this episode the only people (in universe) who can actually see the weaves of the one power that surround channelers are other channelers of the same gender. Male channelers can't see female channelers weaves, (and vice versa): they can only see the results of those weaves. So for instance they will see the fire balls, lightning or explosions created: they won't see the weaves swirling around the individual. At the start the King of Ghealdon wouldn't have been able to see anything around Logain.
Male Channelers can feel a woman channeling though, but not visa versa. Though you are right that they still can not see the weaves. Well unless under certain conditions, but that is a spoiler for much later. And how poorly this show is written and received it may never come up.
The one power is split into two halves, the male half (Saidin) and the female half (Saidar). The female half is shown as the white weaves. The male half started as also white, but it has a black slick over it because the dark one tainted the male half so that male channelers would go mad.

Some of the edits/reactions were truly great on this episode haha I especially like the Lan/Nynaeve shipping P.S. since you asked, I’m pretty sure ‘the pitch’ is closest to an F#
It's funny you mention the scar! That's actually an Easter egg for the fans of the books! Because in-lore, that is exactly how that would've played out. She waited too long to get it healed. And thus, the healing wouldn't have been complete! I saw that scar and geeked out a little bit! Lol.
It also does a nice job of setting a subtle precedent for how most "normal" wounds would heal, versus wounds caused by more.....evil instruments. But also yes, the time factor. I appreciated that too.
Oh, interesting. I hadn't thought of it like that, although I only just finished book 6 so while I know a lot about the series there is still a lot I don'tknow yet. My interpretation was that it is was showing how Kerene wasn't as skilled in healing since she doesn't specialize in it and to show how she was tired so the healing wasn't as good and left a scar. In comparison we see Moiraine heal Tam's trolloc wound with no scar. And then I think it is definitely meant as a comparison to Nynaeve healing everyone in the room and none of them having scars.
I love how she starts out right away trying to figure out how to pronounce the name for something and was like, "Whatever, it's burning." which is basically a running theme in the books. I can't remember how many names even in my head I pronounced with a mumble. Nynaeve? Ummm...uhh..."Knee-nay-a*cough*cough*cough*" yeah....
This was amazing and hilarious, thank you for this reaction. Idk if anyone said this already but Thom talks about the corruption of the male half of the one power so i think that is the reason Logains power was white with a black coat on it. The corruption makes the male channelers go mad.
I was excited for this reaction :) We get to see the magic for TV, but normal people can't see channeling, they just see the effects. Usually male channelers can see men channeling, and female channelers can see women channeling. As for not being able to use the one power as a weapon, that's just because of the Three Oaths that Aes Sedai take. Channelers who haven't sworn the oaths can use the power however they wish. Four episodes to go ^_^
I've watched most of reactions to the series on youtube and I have to say yours are definitely the most entertaining to watch! Love that you're enjoying the show a lot :D
The whisps (weaves) he is channeling are actually invisible to anyone who isn't a male channeler themselves :) Also, non aesedai channelers are not bound by the oaths. They can lie, cheat and murder as much as they want xD
OMG. So good. Episode 4 had everyone screaming. It’s a Code of Conduct. The Aes Sedai take an oath that binds those words to them. Logain isn’t an Aes Sedai and took no oaths, so he can kill anyone with the power. As far as the black weaves, the true source (magic) for men is corrupted. You can see it roll over the weaves, like oil or something. It’s what drives them mad, eventually. I think. You pick a color, like a career choice. Blue = Quest Ajah. Red = Hunt men Ajah. Green = Battle/Freak in the sheets Ajah. The original Dragon was nuts, and all men who can channel go nuts. Wardens feel when their Aes Sedai dies… but they don’t die. Maybe internally. Good theory with Mat and the knife. This show is dark… darker than the books, so I don’t know if Mat did it or not. He definitely had some black noodles going back in his mouth. Whatever that means. I love your reactions so much! Can’t wait for the next one!
If you look carefully, the Fade's sword is bloody. In addition, well... we know what that knife does, right? They wouldn't just be stabbed up. The Fade killed them, and possessed!Mat is doing what... that thing does. (Trying to avoid spoilers for Aisha here.)
Not the original Dragon, just the 2nd Age's went mad from the backlash. He was both scary powerful and very well trained. Also Warders for different Ajah Sisters are treated differently, by both their Sister and how that Ajah looks on men as. Reds have none, but a Brown Sister's Warder may be as educated as she is and the one hoisting her books around. I always loved in the books how eachbondis unique.
I think in chapter one of 'How to track your man 101' it should cover checking areas like, 'the recliner', and, 'the refrigerator'. Covers guys like me anyways. :D
The "not harming" thing is magic oaths that aes sedai specifically take (which they do bc a few thousand years ago some conquerer almost conquered them and this was one of the conditions of making him go away). So even women like Nynaeve, who can use the power but aren't Aes Sedai, could hurt people
Hm... what do you mean? The Oaths themselves are 'magic spells' that biologically affect Aes Sedai. _(Edit: Sorry, I realize you meant that it's NOT a foundation of the One Power)_
She did pick it up with Nyneave that's why she went to talk to her at the pool in Ep 1, but she dismissed her as one of the candidates because she deduced that she was 25 - 26 ie too old. But Nyneave might have lied about her age.
Hmm lying about her age could be a good way to put her in the running. Tho Moiraine was prob smart enough to know that taking her with her to the tower would prob do more harm than good concerning moiraines specific mission motives. Wisdom would be too smart and defensive for the four possible dragons and argue/clash with moiraine. But the darkfriends seem to know about Nynaeve. Dark prophecies more informed/different from light prophecy? Or do they just sense/observe a potential threat in Nynaeve high enough to be the dragon?
She is too old, and she is female. She can not be the Dragon. Egwene is wanted by Moraine as she not only can channel but is very powerful, and Nyneave... Well she is very very very special in the eyes of the Aes Sedai.
as a book reader, im loving watching all these theories non-book readers are coming up with. Book 1 to me was a book were not much happened. it introduced you to characters but the story itself didn't start to really take off till book 3 - 4 ( my opinion, though I struggled with book 3 because a certain character didn't get much POV time). the stuff to come is going to be insane, I have faith they will do it right. there has been some changes but im okay with them, because they make sense for the medium and for what they are trying to do. No spoilers, but im excited for episode 7 as according to the synopsis that's when we find out who the dragon reborn is.... and that character is my favourite one in the book so im excited to see them shine. the story hasn't even started yet, so buckle in!!!
I was screaming Nooooooo!!!!! at the screen when Lan got sliced. I saw my ship going down in flames lol. I truly thought it was over. Was NOT expecting Nynaeve to go all EMP like that and heal everyone. Whew. And I dunno why but the majesty of the music really made me tear up. I’m a non-reader and I’m loving this show. I want to read the books now but I also don’t want to spoil the show so I’m conflicted lol.
If you want to know more about the previous Dragon, look at the animated Origins shorts, which are hidden in Amazon Prime X-ray. The first one is about the Breaking, the second is the fall of Manetheren, the third is a Warder story and the fourth is about how the power works. In Rand's dream, Perrin was hitting what appears to be Laila's corpse with his hammer - it has her ring and hair.
The fact that you added 2 + 2 and came out with an answer that makes sense is amazing! Also, don't worry. This is more Lord of the Ring, rather than Game of Thrones. :)
That was so much fun.I always wonder how non-book readers interpret the books and I love that you already seem to care about our main characters. You are the only one who noticed how BRAVE Moiraine is going into talking to Logan.
I THINK Moiraine picked up that Nynaeve was capable of channeling but not that she could actually channel. I don't get that really because it's different than the books. PS Your monologue about Nynaeve healing Lan was HILARIOUS. Yeah, Nynaeve did not know she could channel either. It only happens when she is in a RAGE.
I'm sure someone's already mentioned this, but I didn't see it on a casual scroll down through the comments. You can only see the weaves on the one power if you can channel. So the King at the beginning couldn't see anything that was happening just the results
Think of the One Power as the Yin-Yang symbol. Male and Female. At the Breaking, the Dark One struck at the male half of the one power, coating the male half of the power like oil. So when a male channels, it is immediately coated and corrupted. That's why the white turns black.
You should take a look at the Origins videos they have in the x-Ray tab in the episode. They might answer a few questions you have, or clarify some confusions.
I know this was already addressed and I am just reiterating. The Aes Sedai have a ceremony involving their magic that magically binds them to the oaths as they take them. They have to actually take the oaths, and the magic has to be involved to bind them to it, or they do not have to follow them. Aes Sedai are also just a group. It isnt a blanket term for anyone who can channel. So anybody who can channel that are not part of the Aes Sedai will not be bound by these oaths as they would not have taken them.
In the time of the last Dragon 3000 years ago, there were male and female Aes Sedai, but this was before the 3 oaths were a thing. Once the Dark One corrupted the male half of the One Power causing men channelers to go insane, there were only female Aes Sedai, who were later forced to take the 3 oaths. Therefore a man channeling the magic now is not an Aes Sedai, and not bound by the 3 oaths.
I think Moraine did picked up on Nynaeve’s power from the beginning. She points out that Nynaeve is exceptional due to her youth as a wisdom (she is the youngest wisdom ever). She goes to see Nynaeve personally to show that she is interested and she discusses Nynaeve with Lan (power recognizes power). I think the part that surprises Moiraine about Nynaeve is her strength.
Ok, I absolutely loved this reaction. I couldn't wait for you to get to the ending. You had several comments that made me audibly laugh. I love seeing these non-reader reactions and the theories and questions. Looking forward to the next one.

Okay. Okay okay okay. I loved your energy when I started your reactions. Tried watching some other people and they didn't grab me. You did. Quickly. Love what you're putting out. And loving your reactions. You've made a subscriber out of me. I like you. A lot.
The Aes Sedai in this Age are only women. They swear the 3 oaths once they become full sisters of the Aes Sedai. That means anyone who can channel the One Power who was not raised to full sisterhood in the White Tower can bypass the 3 oaths. That includes channelers from other cultures (they will prob show it in the future seasons) and men especially them coz a few of them are False Dragons.
For the record, it's not so much about the power not allowing you to do things; rather its oaths that female channelers who join the Aes Sedai order take, that are magically reinforced so they HAVE to obey the oaths. Technically.
Thank you for an amazing reaction! I love your theories and discussions about the show. Watching non-readers react to Wheel of Time is the next best thing to watching the series. I am definitely subscribing to your channel and I look forward to see you react to the rest of the season, and hopefully new seasons!
there's 7 open ajahs (and 1 secret evil one). They all correspond to different virtues and do different things in the world Red: gentle men, often where the actual "man haters" end up. I often joke that they're the TERFs of Aes Sedai (they're preeeeety bioessentialist) Blue: very involved in politics and current events. Green: battle Ajah, very much about passion. The only ones to marry their warders sometimes. White: all about logic Brown: all about knowledge Gray: diplomacy and mediation Yellow: healing Secret evil one is black Ajah, who are all darkfriends
The blackness that was coating Logain's weaves was the corruption on the male half on the One Power. With how this show is portraying the weaves, his would be white as well if it wasn't for that corruption. (technically, they should be colored for the 5 elements: earth, water, air, fire, and spirit...but they probably thought that would look too busy) Great reaction as always! This episode bothered me as a book reader, but I'm still really enjoying the show as a whole.
@@felipegonzales5575 Ha I was trying to respect the change to 'corruption'. I can't help but giggle every time [spoilers] touches the taint in the books though.
Just came across your reaction on UA-cam for the first time. Loved it. Your theories are great. 😀. Won't spoil anything, you will get all the details in time. Pls do watch the animated bonus shorts on the xray section, the map and the timeline in the explore section. 👍. Cant wait to see your older reactions. ❤️❤️
Absolutely love seeing the reactions of non-readers. Thanks for sharing and you have a new sub. Just to clarify one thing. The only reason aes sedai do not use the power as a weapon (unless fighting shadowspawn, or protecting the life of themselves, their warder or another sister) is because they swore not to on the oath rod. Oh mat did not kill that family, the fade did (mats dagger is clean)
I think you should re-listen to Thom's chat with Rand and check out the animated shorts - they help to explain a lot of what you're wondering about regarding the male power, why it's black, and how the Dragon broke the world.
I'm a huge book fan and I LOVE watching your takes on this show! The whole black/white One Power we see from Logain (the now-gentled false Dragon) is supposed to be the same "white mist" representing the One Power that you see women channel, except that the male side of the One Power is tainted by the evil of the Dark One. This corruption is what makes male channelers go mad/rot/wreak havoc. (Reference the bonus content video 1 and the cold open to the first episode, Leavetaking, where Moiraine talks about "the arrogance" with such lovely distain.)

Some of the edits/reactions were truly great on this episode haha I especially like the Lan/Nynaeve shipping
P.S. since you asked, I’m pretty sure ‘the pitch’ is closest to an F#
Hahaha Brilliant! Thanks so much! 💕
You are hilarious 😂! I ship Naynaeve and Lan as well. Love this channel. Just subscribed!
Thanks so much! 💕
Love your reactions. Nynaeve, like a raging sun! Don’t mess with our Wisdom.
Thanks so much! 💕
Every time Alanna is on screen, I keep having to pause to breathe because dear Gaia that woman is gorgeous.
Thanks so much! 💕
I was excited for this reaction :)
We get to see the magic for TV, but normal people can't see channeling, they just see the effects.
Wow, Thanks so much! 💕
The whisps (weaves) he is channeling are actually invisible to anyone who isn't a male channeler themselves :)
Also, non aesedai channelers are not bound by the oaths.
@@WillRobinson Yeah, good point. I’m not ruling anything out. This show is so dark! I love it.
Thanks so much! 💕
"She doesn't even go here!" 😂😂😂😂 Shall always be my favorite line.
To borrow from someone who works on the show about Logain _"Is he mad, or is he hearing the whispers of madness?"_
I've laughed so hard and your reaction to these scenes and LaNaeve. This is my favorite episode by far!
I think in chapter one of 'How to track your man 101' it should cover checking areas like, 'the recliner', and, 'the refrigerator'. Covers guys like me anyways. :D
**Furiously takes notes**
The "not harming" thing is magic oaths that aes sedai specifically take (which they do bc a few thousand years ago some conquerer almost conquered them and this was one of the conditions of making him go away). So even women like Nynaeve, who can use the power but aren't Aes Sedai, could hurt people
Aes Sedai follow the three oaths, it's not something built into the magic system. It's their laws basically :)
Hm... what do you mean? The Oaths themselves are 'magic spells' that biologically affect Aes Sedai.
_(Edit: Sorry, I realize you meant that it's NOT a foundation of the One Power)_
no worries!
Minor Spoils:
"Scoundrel life is light work"
Tell that to the Prince of Ravens XD
OMG girl your reaction is so ON POINT!! Love it!! I literally LMAO when you slowed down Lan protecting Nynaeve!! LOL 😂#subbed
Thanks so much! 💕
“That episode ended brilliantly.” LITERALLY 🌞
Woah thats a real good nynaeve origin theory bout having a channeler parent and repressed powers...
I hear some of the upcoming episodes are even better and I don't know if I can handle it
I know this was already addressed and I am just reiterating.
Moiraine coming in to LL Cool J 😂😂
It was literally the song that came into my head when I saw that scene - I'm such a weirdo
@@AishaWilson a weirdo in a good way with excellent comedic timing
Probably my favorite reaction to Ep #4 I've seen yet. Very fun watching you react.
Thanks so much! 💕
The bad recorder music when Lan put Nynaeve behind him made me holler 🤣🤣
You missed the part where Alanah said, “One warded would never do!” LOL!
loved your reactions! Nyneave + Lan
Thanks so much! 💕
Really enjoy your reaction girl. Wow so many good gifs that could be made with your reaction.
Thanks so much! 💕
I love your reactions! Here for the Lan/Nynaeve shipping 😍
Thanks so much! 💕
Thanks so much! 💕
"The old blood is indeed still strong in the Two Rivers."
Amazon has bonus minisodes with each episode, so if you want to know what happened with the last Dragon/the Breaking, you can see. I loved this react. You're so funny and insightful, and you open my eyes to some of the truly brilliant things they're doing in the writing with the changes they've made, which are helping my own analysis of the show as someone who is extremely familiar with the books. I can't wait to see your next one!
Yay! I have been loving your reactions to this show, and this one was pitch perfect 😉
Thanks so much! 💕
God how I LOVE the assessments from a Sassy black women... LOL Your interpretations add such a flare to a story ... Thank You for the great review and your embellishments !! BTW 8 episodes this season
the asidai are restricted by swearing on the oath rod, logean has never done that
Regular people cannot see weaves, so the king didn’t see the wispy people talking to Logain, He just saw him talking to himself.
Yissss gimme non reader reactions ❤
Okay. Okay okay okay. I loved your energy when I started your reactions. Tried watching some other people and they didn't grab me. You did. Quickly. Love what you're putting out. And loving your reactions. You've made a subscriber out of me. I like you. A lot.
Aw thanks so much! 💕
This is the best reaction I’ve seen. I felt every moment of that.
Thanks so much! 💕
You and I Stan LAN and NYNNAEVE in the same way. Lol. Your reaction to them has also been my reaction, as well. Lol.
Thank you for an amazing reaction! I love your theories and discussions about the show. Watching non-readers react to Wheel of Time is the next best thing to watching the series. I am definitely subscribing to your channel and I look forward to see you react to the rest of the season, and hopefully new seasons!
Thanks so much! 💕
Your reaction gives me life. I too adore Lan and Nynaeve, anyone who doesn’t is wrong 😁
Aw thanks so much! 💕
I like your theories! We‘ll see how it turns out… you are a good listener 👌🏾
Thanks so much! 💕
23:37 LOL omg dying here.
Wonderful reaction.... and 8 episodes in this season.... so halfway there...
Thanks so much! 💕
there's 7 open ajahs (and 1 secret evil one). They all correspond to different virtues and do different things in the world
Red: gentle men, often where the actual "man haters" end up. I often joke that they're the TERFs of Aes Sedai (they're preeeeety bioessentialist)
Blue: very involved in politics and current events.
Green: battle Ajah, very much about passion. The only ones to marry their warders sometimes.
White: all about logic
Brown: all about knowledge
Gray: diplomacy and mediation
Yellow: healing
Secret evil one is black Ajah, who are all darkfriends
The blackness that was coating Logain's weaves was the corruption on the male half on the One Power. With how this show is portraying the weaves, his would be white as well if it wasn't for that corruption. (technically, they should be colored for the 5 elements: earth, water, air, fire, and spirit...but they probably thought that would look too busy)
Great reaction as always! This episode bothered me as a book reader, but I'm still really enjoying the show as a whole.
Its the ... ***taint*** lolololol
@@felipegonzales5575 Ha I was trying to respect the change to 'corruption'. I can't help but giggle every time [spoilers] touches the taint in the books though.
@@seathblood its just a different time lol. When I reading or listening it doesn't even register as .... a taint lol

I am so happy I subscribed! Your reactions are amazing! 💜
Yay! Thank you!
In a deep voice "Establish dominance"
Magic can kill, Aes Sedai can't as part of an oath they take. Anyone, man or woman, who isn't a member of the Aes Sedai can use it to kill.
Something you might have misheard, Aisha: When women become a full Aes Sedai they do get to choose which Ajah they join.
Sorry, I commented while I was watching :-)

Absolutely love seeing the reactions of non-readers. Thanks for sharing and you have a new sub. Just to clarify one thing. The only reason aes sedai do not use the power as a weapon (unless fighting shadowspawn, or protecting the life of themselves, their warder or another sister) is because they swore not to on the oath rod. Oh mat did not kill that family, the fade did (mats dagger is clean)
Thanks so much! 💕

When they went to that city they were told not to touch anything he took the sword. it's making him evil.
Been waiting for you to see this!
Eight episodes in season one. Season finale, episode eight The Eye of the World, on Dec. 24, 2021.
