It feels like a vicious cycle: Players on the Heat improved as individual defenders, making it hard to punish the early help, causing the Celtics to lose confidence in the skip and swinging passes, which takes the pressure of individual defenders on the Heat to close out hard and then recover.
They play defense as a team not individually you can see they throw bodies at you, they communicate, read and help each other. When one defender pass by, the next man will quick to follow and that defender who get pass will quickly go to the other player and their switches is on point. That translates to confidence on the roster, and their role players are chipping in at both ends to keep Jimmy's legs fresh. As a Canadian fan, I'm excited for a Finals duel between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat - you have the robbed three-peat MVP Jokic and Canadian baller Jamal Murray, versus fan-favorite Jimmy Butler and former Raptors All-Star Kyle Lowry, so it's a win-win scenario for me as a viewer. Offensively, Nuggets might do a better job at attacking with Joker and Murray as the main offense, and with Joker incredible passing. Its about stopping Miami's offense. Jimmy might get his buckets, its his teammates that need to make those shots. I'm still taking Nuggets and Joker to get their first ever ring. Let's gooo
I hear a lot of people saying “oh this same Celtics team beat this same Heat team last year” as if that should mean something. It went to 7 games and the Heat were a desperation Butler shit away from winning. It was a tough/competitive series and the team were basically evenly matched (even though I think I remember Jimmy being injured last playoffs). My point is that this Celtics team was never leaps and bounds better than this Heat just because they played better in the last few minutes of a game 7. On top of that the Celtics are worse coached than they were last year and a lot of Heat players have improved since last year. And as if that wasn’t enough, just for extra context. over the last few years this Heat team has beat the Celtics in the playoffs multiple times (the Bucks too). Going into this series I’m pretty sure the Heat had an overall winning record against this Celtics team in the playoffs. So, is what the Heat are doing surprising given they were the 8th seed? Absolutely. But we gotta stop talking like this Celtics team has EVER been leaps and bounds better than this Heat team.
Tatum is too Mr. Nice guy. Kind of reminds me of Durant in his early years with OKC. Dude needs to become the villain to unlock his potential and be a killer like Jimmy Buckets.
the fact smart won a DPOY is laughable. Holiday is such a better defender as a guard.. if they wanted to give it to a guard they gave it to the wrong player.
This hit the nail on the head. I had a lot of the same observations watching this series; too much iso ball and poor shot selection, especially during cold streaks, commiting to expecting a call rather than playing for the bucket, and poor PnR defense. I think entitlement is a big problem with the Cs right now, even as a fan. They expect to roll over the Hawks and go to 7, they expect to roll over the sixers and go to 7, and they forsake the heat because they won the series last year, forgetting that it came down to Jimmy missing a shot in game 7. Hopefully this series has been a wake up call, if not I dont know what will be.
WHEN Miami wins the chip and people are all shocked and say things like i cant believe Jamal struggled etc...I hope people will finally give Erik the credit he deserves for being such a great defense coach
Not gonna be surprising if Jamal struggles. It's a question of if the Heat can lock up the other 3 guys because Jokic finds layups where every other passer sees nothing but turnovers
Correction: "How Miami exposed Boston and their lack of playmaking". Miami wouldn't be here without Vincent, Martin, Bam and company playing excellent ball.
If I remember correctly, The heat were fishing so many steals and forcing lots of turnover in last year ecf against Boston. I can't believe that they look like they don't prepare against the team that is one 3 away from beating them last year.
What an incredible breakdown coach! I love how you compare with last year, its mind boggling what is causing these changes, there has to be something going on in the locker room. Is Brown already mentally on another team?
5:50 is freaking magical. i wish all of the ppl who are blaming solely jaylen brown and joe mazzulla would watch these turnovers from tatum. just inexcusable stuff. his playmaking has always been overrated (especially after g1 of the finals last year) and it's a huge part of why boston hasn't won anything. neither tatum nor brown are good enough decision or play makers to be as ball-dominant as they are
Coach barely made videos about small market teams, I doubt he had any time to make a video about EL where most of his audience would care less. Even Miami's last coverage was back in the 1st round when he presumably made it about the Bucks defeating themselves. Thinking basketball is far better than coach's breakdown anyway. Only here for the occasional watching.
I mean, he made a video about Euroleague comparing it with NBA, and he made some videos years ago, but I agree, he probably doesn't have enough time to do all of it when playoffs are happening
Looks like Celtics could use a true point guard to set the offense up Both of them are still very young, and have a lot of time to develop, but shooting 10% from 3, and then demand a trade is privileged
They should be exploiting that early help with back door cuts or you drive to occupy the help defender on purpose like setting a screen for an even more open shot
Love butler but today's game was about undrafted players But Butler's believe to the undrafted players in regular season and help for these players to step up their true talents got paid off
i would welcome brown to the heat. hes good on defense and would not have that same type of preassure to have to create for the team and can play more free and we have the right coaching for to jump to the next level.
As a heat fan, this game 4 scares me. 1 win from boston is all it takes to have the momentum switch. If boston wins tonight, i dont think miami will survive this series.
Hey coach. I have asked this in a few other videos but I was wondering how come you are not in the coaching staff in any teams. Also have you ever coached a team?
he did for highschool boys bball team and programs. you can google for more details. he probably make better money here and less headaches dealing with parents.
If you're asking why he's not in the NBA, it's either political, he just didn't try, or the caliber to be a coach in the NBA is just different. We think Joe Mazulla is bad but he can probably win multiple championships in any other leagues easy.
@@s_ame1135agreed, many people think it’s a cake walk but there’s only 30 head coaches and most of them come from being assistants which there’s only 30 or so of those positions also, pretty crazy how elite you have to be to be considered a goat coach
@@dm1964 Yup. Each team only has a max of 3 assistant coaches allowed. Plus the 30 head coaches, that's only 120 coaches in the league at any given time. Considering the experiences, field of study requirements, as well as the number of staple coaches like Spo's and Pop's team that will only leave when they retire of old age, the odds of making it as a coach in the NBA is much slimmer than making it as a player instead.
Exactly. Marcus Smart should just go. I don't know why Boston is so in love with his play. He's just great when they are up and ahead, but when it's crunch time he always, again ALWAYS makes foolish plays. It had always been this way for 9 YEARS, no improvements at all, and the Celtics just stuck with it. I mean for a good organization it doesn't make any sense at all.
I totally agree. They’re EXTREMELY stupid for keeping him this long, giving him that money, having him handle the ball, and giving him that many minutes. He’s a low IQ player who slows the offense and actually plays BAD defense, especially mentally
The Celtics defense is so incredibly bad and I noticed how it was always man to man and the switch with no edge to avoid switching it makes nooookl sense
one way to fight the zone is low post cutting, coupled with good three point shooting. They don't attempt the former, and are unable to shoot threes well, as the heat push them further and further back behind the 3. but yeah, running straight into it isn't going to work either.
You could tell the celtics werent really together when brown was asked about grant. He didnt defend him. You could tell he resented grant. He chose to skip the question. Meanwhile, the heat have each other's back, win or lose.
Spo figured out they like to get in rhythm with the 3 and that opens up the floor. Game 1 the heat figured out how to shut it down. Its been getting worse for boston every game after.
I think Tatum and Brown are a good combo, but they're still young guys getting flummoxed under pressure. The supporting cast has never been up to the job imo, and I would revamp the whole squad around the core duo.
As a Celtics Fan i can say the Celtics are an Embarrassment. Smart and Horford should have been traded. Playing horrible just like last Year. And Tatum is far from being a Team Leader. Year after Year they have had the Options to pick up a Superstar and they wont so I Hope they get Swept.
On the list of "Things No One Ever Said Or Thought" 1) They should trade Jokic for Embid. 2) Perkins is an intelligent guy who doesn't have a racist bone in his body.
Boston has regressed defensively. They somehow have more than 3 ball watchers on the floor, and it shows on defense. And somehow, they let a very inconsistent guy like Smart actually look like he is doing something significant.
Crazy how smart, unselfish basketball beats stagnant isolation hero-ball. Who would've thought.
Same type of team that the heat was dominated by in 2014. Funny how that works
The spurs spanking the big 3 the second time in the Finals taught Spo how unstoppable they can be if they move the ball.

Should be entertaining basketball to watch in any regard.
Really can’t believe Jokic got robbed. They just gave Embiid the “Here Nigga Damn” award
Toronto guy here - Completely agree about everything but especially the Finals matchup! I just really like and respect both teams and can't wait for what should be an amazing series, plus I'm fantasizing about Murray taking the Larry OB Trophy for a victory lap visit to Toronto for his hometown fans, lol.
I love that Jimmy’s trolling of Al Horford (w/ his timeout call) is now an NBA meme. 😂
Now do the reverse for game 4 how Butler got exposed
For sure. So weird
@@bballbreakdown thanks coach
The NBA couldn’t allow both conference finals to be sweeps so it was fixed
Offensively, Nuggets might do a better job at attacking with Joker and Murray as the main offense, and with Joker incredible passing. Its about stopping Miami's offense. Jimmy might get his buckets, its his teammates that need to make those shots.
I'm still taking Nuggets and Joker to get their first ever ring. Let's gooo

Feels like this series has exposed how important Coaching is
yeah this series really exposed Spo🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely. But we gotta stop talking like this Celtics team has EVER been leaps and bounds better than this Heat team.
thank you! they're evenly matched. No excuses for Miami all time choke job 🤣🤣🤣
I was waiting for this video, great work 👍👍
Tatum - Brown shooting was either horrible or predictable. Good job to Miami defense
Tatum is too Mr. Nice guy. Kind of reminds me of Durant in his early years with OKC. Dude needs to become the villain to unlock his potential and be a killer like Jimmy Buckets.
I think the Durant comparison is good in terms of that mentality. I think both were too worried about being seen as selfish early in their careers
Your analysis is too good, deep and on point
the fact smart won a DPOY is laughable. Holiday is such a better defender as a guard.. if they wanted to give it to a guard they gave it to the wrong player.
For real. And this is from a C’s guy
The best sports highlights right here, appreciate the breakdowns you do 👌🔥👌
This hit the nail on the head.
Denver gonna dismantle Miami dude. You trippin.
4 days ago you were talking about the chip LOL now Heat about to become the biggest joke in nba history!
Correction: "How Miami exposed Boston and their lack of playmaking". Miami wouldn't be here without Vincent, Martin, Bam and company playing excellent ball.
great analysis coach! very interesting.
Caleb Martin is the real deal. Never watched much of his game prior but hes playing with the confidence of an all star on both sides of the floor
If I remember correctly, The heat were fishing so many steals and forcing lots of turnover in last year ecf against Boston.
I can't believe that they look like they don't prepare against the team that is one 3 away from beating them last year.
Great job, coach! What do you think, it's on players or it's on coach?
exelent video! only couple more weeks keep them coming!!!!
Great video! You are making these playoffs much more interesting
Oh hey there’s a game 7
Outstanding the way you compare to footage of last year.
Could this be all about trust?... But trusting the coach or your teammates?.. Victory has defeated them
love the marcus smart hate 😂 mans almost cost them game 7 last yr
Coach Nick GREAT GREAT GREAT breakdowns!!!!!
What an incredible breakdown coach! I love how you compare with last year, its mind boggling what is causing these changes, there has to be something going on in the locker room. Is Brown already mentally on another team?
5:50 is freaking magical. i wish all of the ppl who are blaming solely jaylen brown and joe mazzulla would watch these turnovers from tatum. just inexcusable stuff. his playmaking has always been overrated (especially after g1 of the finals last year) and it's a huge part of why boston hasn't won anything. neither tatum nor brown are good enough decision or play makers to be as ball-dominant as they are
Spo is running a coaching clinic...
Let's go heat they're going all the way
All the way to Cancun🤣🤣🤣
@@MrGenexxx gm 7🤔 Jimmy gonna heat up
@@MrGenexxx so who's going to cancun 🤔😆😆
This is the kind of analysis i enjoy
Is it possible for you to make videos about Euroleague final 4 and amazing games there?
Coach barely made videos about small market teams, I doubt he had any time to make a video about EL where most of his audience would care less. Even Miami's last coverage was back in the 1st round when he presumably made it about the Bucks defeating themselves.
Thinking basketball is far better than coach's breakdown anyway. Only here for the occasional watching.
I mean, he made a video about Euroleague comparing it with NBA, and he made some videos years ago, but I agree, he probably doesn't have enough time to do all of it when playoffs are happening
Tatum has generational skills and talent his creativity with the ball offensively is perceptive but he can't seem to lead the team 💯
This video didn’t age well
Spolstra’s Artwork at its finest!
Excellent video coach
Looks like Celtics could use a true point guard to set the offense up
Both of them are still very young, and have a lot of time to develop, but shooting 10% from 3, and then demand a trade is privileged
They should be exploiting that early help with back door cuts or you drive to occupy the help defender on purpose like setting a screen for an even more open shot
I can't wait to see the chess match between Malone's staff and Spoeltra's staff
Love butler but today's game was about undrafted players
But Butler's believe to the undrafted players in regular season and help for these players to step up their true talents got paid off
i would welcome brown to the heat. hes good on defense and would not have that same type of preassure to have to create for the team and can play more free and we have the right coaching for to jump to the next level.
As a heat fan, this game 4 scares me. 1 win from boston is all it takes to have the momentum switch. If boston wins tonight, i dont think miami will survive this series.
You're not a Heat Fan, you're a Celtics Fan with wishful thinking posting as a Heat Fan.
@@xaviernunez5498 you're right you know me so well.
Wondering the same
@@s_ame1135agreed, many people think it’s a cake walk but there’s only 30 head coaches and most of them come from being assistants which there’s only 30 or so of those positions also, pretty crazy how elite you have to be to be considered a goat coach
Duncan has come through with huge 3 pointers, he's not getting enough props.
Rooting for the Heat!
Also mental stress is def a factor. If defensive pressure is that good, you will expend that much more to genrste an offense.
Game 4 the Heat need to rip out their heart from the first quarter
The Celtics defense is so incredibly bad and I noticed how it was always man to man and the switch with no edge to avoid switching it makes nooookl sense
What software do you use to draw the arrows on the video?
What instrumental music is this from??? Does anyone know??
You weren’t lying about getting this one up early lol
When both of your superstars are about to get their supermax contracts but will be swept...🤷♂️
I wonder if Joe is subscribed to your account. Beats watching the town.
Trusting your teammates, especially when you’re down, goes a long way…
one way to fight the zone is low post cutting, coupled with good three point shooting. They don't attempt the former, and are unable to shoot threes well, as the heat push them further and further back behind the 3. but yeah, running straight into it isn't going to work either.
marcus smart tricked the nba media into giving him a dpoy lmfao
Smart’s always been a phony, he tricked all the dumb fans first then the media
Eye test says the Heat are a team while the Celtics are playing for and around Brown-Tatum
You could tell the celtics werent really together when brown was asked about grant. He didnt defend him. You could tell he resented grant. He chose to skip the question. Meanwhile, the heat have each other's back, win or lose.
i have seen enough fire Mazulla and hire BBallBreakdown as the Celtics coach next season.
🐐Spo
Wow you really broke this down
The celtics need to watch this
They needed to watch this years ago
6:21 it's Caleb not Cody Martin but great breakdown!
This what happens when you fire your best playmaker Ime😂
Coach, I swear you need a "Can you hear me shaking my head" T-Shirt.
Ur definitely right about marcus smart, you're not going to win much if he's a focal point on your offense and defense
I’ve been saying this for YEARS but people are stupid
As a Celtics Fan i can say the Celtics are an Embarrassment. Smart and Horford should have been traded. Playing horrible just like last Year. And Tatum is far from being a Team Leader. Year after Year they have had the Options to pick up a Superstar and they wont so I Hope they get Swept.
Been saying Smart should have been traded 3-4 years ago. Al too old to be getting this many minutes
delete this now, so called celtics fan
Smart seems to have run his course with this team.
How do two people regress like that with ball rotation? Their games are almost identical, same strengths and weaknesses.
Why do I have absolutely zero memory of the Heat being the #1 seed just last season???
Please give us proper footage about Lakers getting SWEPT. Thank You
On the list of "Things No One Ever Said Or Thought"
1) They should trade Jokic for Embid.
2) Perkins is an intelligent guy who doesn't have a racist bone in his body.
finally someone adrees how terrible is the celtics offensive
Let's Go
Boston has regressed defensively. They somehow have more than 3 ball watchers on the floor, and it shows on defense. And somehow, they let a very inconsistent guy like Smart actually look like he is doing something significant.
It’s CALEB martin, it’s been long enough that you shouldn’t still be mixing his name up with his brother’s
Coach is a casual.
The heat is simply saved their energy in regular season then unleash in the playoffs :)
