- James Wines’ career as an architect has involved the creation of decades’ worth of fantastical drawings-a trove of new ecological narratives that often run counter to mainstream, Western architectural discourses. This episode of "Built Ecologies: Architecture and the Environment" focuses on Wines’ drawings - technique, method, etc. - and case studies from the office he cofounded, SITE, revealing a singular vision in American architecture that puts ecology and the environment at the forefront.
Built Ecologies: Architecture and Environment is a video series from MoMA’s Emilio Ambasz Institute for the Joint Study of the Built and the Natural Environment that features prominent architects and thinkers doing innovative work across environmental topics. In each episode, these figures are invited to define the terms “architecture” and “environment,” producing a through-line between videos that otherwise capture a wide variety of practices and backgrounds.

Well, I like it. The 'steel and glass boys', as I think FL Wright referred to them, have made modern cities look much the same and do nothing for aesthetics, or the environment. Function isn't the end-all of architecture - we humans need an embrace and a certain amount of awe, beauty, and interest in what we build. Incorporating nature, as opposed to 'conquering' it, is far more pleasing, interesting, and, of course, environmentally friendly, than are these sky-scraping, ubiquitous monstrosities - or, God help us; malls and shopping centers. I applaud SITE for adding its voice to the conversation of architecture, and challenging expectations of what many have come to simply accept as 'normal'. I'm not putting this as well as I wish to, but I'll just say again - I like this. :)
“I never thought about a building before and that’s exactly the fun”
I love this man and would do anything for him. Such a joyful perception of life and what's possible
...sharing aestetic experience can contain sense of humor to try to comunicate... incredible way of being architecture discoverer together
I am not a fan of big cities. But if you do an exhibit on James Wines in NYC, I will go and I will convince and/or blackmail my architecture classmates to go with me.
This was great! Thank you!

It's so cool, and I really recognize this unique perspective.
amazing. wonder if developers have destroyed those structures now. probably. James Wines obviously way too ahead of his time. Tremendous for Best to have been so creative and radical.
I love him.

these buildings in hindsight are one trick ponies. You want to make a statement about architecture in the landscape, just look at Frank Lloyd Wright.
Это не сохранение природы, а фальшивка для видимости что сохраняем. Кто то кусты лепит на здание, этот маскирует под руины захваченные природой. Все у вас декорация на показ!
