S1 - Ep 140 - Ebenhaeser & Papendorp, Two Small Fishing Hamlets on the West Coast!

- Not long after leaving Lutzville we arrived at the first small fishing hamlet called Ebenhaeser. The Rhenish Missionary Society and specifically a German named Wurmb, started a mission station here in 1831. We then headed to Papendorp and what a mind-blowing experience we had here! This hamlet is on the mouth of the Olifants River and has the most beautiful views of the Olifants River Estuary. Interesting is the fact that this is the second most important estuary in South Africa. It supports an abundance of wildlife, including 38 different species of fish, 200 bird species of which 72 are water birds and 21 migrant birds that arrive during the summer months, when the number of birds almost double to 6000 birds. We then drove up to the salt pan which also was spectacular. This place is completely unexpected and a definite must-see! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #lutzville #ebenhaeser #papendorp #olifantsrivermouth

Great trip. Reckon that second tortoise was sleep walking, which confirms the hibernation scenario.
Love the stillness of it all.
It’s beautiful by Papendorp by the river oh my🥰
It's like I'm right there - thank you🤲
Twee oulike plekkies! Groete uit Lima Peru!
Beautiful church.
That was so interesting, never heard of Papendorp. There are so many hidden gems like that around SA, so great job finding those two and showing us .
Perfect choice of words, these two villages are indeed two hidden gems. 👌🏻The scenery and the whole vibe, just spectacular! We loved every moment there.
Hi Guys , you have blessed me so much with your videos especially with the Garden Route ones including Plett , Knysna and Sedgefield. Love your comraderie and obvious love for each other. What a team ! It's time we had a glimpse of the other half of the couple.
You're very kind, thank you. 😊 It's fantastic to hear that you enjoy our videos, we absolutely love making them! Our trip to the Garden Route was a special one, the area is breathtakingly beautiful and they have everything there, the ocean, the forests and the mountains. 😍 My teammate and better half won't love me that much anymore if I put her on camera, she is super camera-shy and has been since I've known her. I'm chipping away slowly though, so am hoping that one day she will agree. 😁
That was so interesting just loved the beautiful sand, and the water going through the veld lookes as if it could all come under water sometimes. Your drone footage shows a lot of beauty. Well done.
These two villages were a true highlight on our trip, we just love the wildness and the beauty of the area. You're right, there is so much water around, but luckily the roads were dry! 😁
Lovely church.
The open spaces are fantastic. Must be very calming.
What a fantastic area this was, the unexpected beauty down every road we took, was something else! 😍
So enjoyable, thank you for sharing.
Greetings from NZ and God bless,
Dave
You're so very welcome, glad you enjoy our videos! 🤩🚗
Ebenhaeiser thus far the Lord has taken us!!!
Good memories.. My ouers van Ebenezer en my PA skool ghou op Papendorp by daardie ou gebou waar julle fotos gevat het! ❤️. Ons elke jaar gekamp op papendorp... Daar waar julle gery het was sout panne.. 🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️😍😍
Love your cool videos guys👍
Thank you, glad you're tagging along! 😁🚗
The 'labyrinth' reminds me more of an amusement park queue than any soul searching path...hahaha
I'm sure the creators had good intentions when they built it. Patience is key though and therein lies the challenge when we're travelling. We're always on the go to the next place. 🚙😊
Soutpanne in Papendorp🙌My Gran lived in Lutzville.....many years ago....and her sister and husband in Papendorp 🇿🇦❤️
Fabulous guys! We must literally have driven the exact same route!!!!! Isn’t it gorgeous on those waterways!?
These two villages were definitely a highlight for us and so unexpected! 😱 It's a beautiful area. Great minds think alike, what can we say! 😉
@@DustBugsTravel where do you guys stay? Would be awesome to meet up sometime! Always love connecting with likeminded peeps!
We live in Strand. Let us know if you're ever in the area. If we're around, we'd love to get together. 😁
You missed the flamingoes, come back for them
They are coming to the water pans
I think you missed where I specifically said we could see them but they were too far away to capture on film. 🤷🏼♂️
will your routes be published online? I for one will appreciate to ride many of your routes on a motorbike.
I haven't thought about doing that yet, but will certainly think of a possible way to do it in the future. At the moment, editing our videos takes up every single second of spare time when I'm not working. All our routes would be awesome to travel on two wheels! 😎🏍️
grew up here
What a beautiful area! It was our first visit and we loved it! 🤩🚗
Ebenhaezer is not sea side village
Wow, thank you for pointing out our error. 👍🏻 To always be correct, is really not important to us in the greater scheme of things and certainly not why we travel. If you watch our videos to find mistakes, there are plenty and we know that! 😁 We focus on the beauty of a specific area and will always make mistakes. 🤷🏼♂️
I live in Lutzville, luv going to Papendorp down to where the boats are. The old building is now in bad shape
Julle Kan nie Engels praat met die Noordkapenaars nie! Hulle sal net vir julle se, huh? 😂😂😂😂
They actually did very well and we don't mind translating whenever it's necessary. 😁
@@DustBugsTravel I am well of that! Really enjoy you videos. Hy husband and I traveled through the northern Cape and stayed at Oewerbos, noordoewer camp that belongs to friends of us. You can travel there by car.
Love Papendorp, very poor community
We loved Papendorp too! We didn't even notice the poverty, only the beauty! 🤩🌊 We found the local people very welcoming and friendly.
They are fishermen and seasonal workers, mostly in the vinyards
The people who live in these tiny dorpies on the West coast have a good life regardless of how little/much they earn. Easy access to nature and clean environment. Much better than the low income populations in the large cities.
