      Sony/SME is working hard with the copyrights. So not only Pentatonix, but all of the artists under them.
      As some has written, overlay and frequent pauses might do the trick.
      But UA-cam copyrights work randomly. Some reactors could post uninterrupted full video, and so others were completely blocked from posting. So it depends on your luck.

    Mitch and Kirstie can hand off in songs and you may or may not notice it. They don’t compete. They know who’s voice is best for each part. As when they do The Prayer, you might think Kirstie, but the angelic lightness of Mitch with a later call and response where Kirstie belts (her thing, huge voice) is well chosen. Enjoy the handoffs from the rest as well. Everyone shines somewhere.

    I'm so glad you are continuing with Pentatonix. It's kinda cool that you started with a song that highlighted Kirstie last time. That is not the first reaction for most reactors, so it takes some time for them to understand the level talent, and the extent of the her contribution to PTX. Nobody belts like Kirstie, her range is huge, and she is a master of her craft. Most reactors start with this one, actually, and right after Kirstie's incredible performance, BAM, they get hit with the surprise of Mitch's angelic and unexpected vocals, and they are so surprised they almost forget all about her, lol. I don't blame them. my jaw still hits the floor constantly when it comes to Mitch, but I am so impressed with all 6 of their voices, each of them is a headliner in their own right, with an arsenal of vocal arrows in their quivers, (I say 6 because I am including both Avi, the original bass, seen here, and Matt, the current bass you saw in Shallow). Great reaction!

    Mitch is a counter tenor. This means he sings even higher than I tenor. It is the rarest of voice types that exist. He's able to sing so high be cause of The structure of his vocal folds. Shortly before he passed Leonard Cohen heard pentatonics cover of his song. He said it was the best cover of his song he had ever heard

    Okay, time to introduce you to Pentatonix.
    • First verse, tall blond baritone. Scott Hoying is a lyric baritone. When describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that his actual range exceeds his nominal range. In Scott's case, what this means is that he sings well into the tenor range on the high end and well into the bass range on the low end. In official videos, like this one, the audio is actually recorded in the studio, and they lip synch during the video. But the way that they lip synch is to actually sing the song while they're recording the video. This keeps them in proper time to the audio, and it makes the video more real - all of their movements, hands, mouths, tongues, everything, is real. However, because the audio is recorded in the studio they can cheat a little when it's time for the bass to solo. The bass will record a second track that has the bass harmony line that goes with his verse of the song, and they can layer that in. But Pentatonix never lip synchs in live performances, and that means that it would be too hard to use that bass harmony track during a live performance, so Scott takes over the bass harmony line whenever the bass has a solo in a live performance.
    • Second verse, bearded guy wearing a stocking cap: Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have been known to blow out speakers during live performances - but Avi's range actually extends clear through the baritone range and into the low end of the tenor range. Avi is also the only member of Pentatonix who has resigned, late in 2017, for personal reasons. He has gone on to have an extremely successful solo career, and has a new band named "Avriel and the Sequoias." If you do a UA-cam search on "Avi Kaplan" you'll find his channel. I recommend subscribing.
    • Avi's replacement, whom you saw in the previous video you watched, is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable). Matt is another lyric bass. If you just go on the songs they've already released with Matt singing bass you'd be justified in concluding that Matt's range is a good deal less than Avi's. But Matt is the youngest member of Pentatonix and it appears that his full range is still developing. When I heard him at a live concert in November of 2022 I would swear that his lowest note was as low as anything I ever heard from Avi - true basso profundo, blowing-out-speakers low - while his highest note was in the middle of the tenor range, *higher* than Avi's high note. Matt is a spectacular bass, and I expect him to become more so over the next year or two. His voice reminds me of a warm blanket and a purring cat; and of good chocolate.
    • Third verse, the only woman in Pentatonix, Kirstin (AKA Kirstie - rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Mezzo soprano. Except in the real world Kirstin sings anywhere from a low alto through the highest of the coloratura soprano range, with some gorgeous whistle notes on top of that.
    • Fourth verse, guy in the wide-brimmed hat with the gorgeous high voice: Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable). Mitch is a counter tenor with a range of just over six octaves, but he's most comfortable in his higher registers. Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, described Mitch's voice as "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Both Scott and Kirstin say that during live performances they keep finding themselves going silent when they're supposed to be singing, because they just want to hear Mitch's voice better. Most people just describe Mitch's voice as "angelic." But when Mitch was in high school he was bullied over how his voice is, so he has trouble believing people really want to hear him sing, and tends to doubt his own musical intuition and judgment. During the pandemic lockdown his imposter syndrome finally got bad enough that Mitch decided to get help for it, and he's seemed to be much happier since, to the great relief of his many fans.
    • This brings us to the fifth member of Pentatonix, Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth), beatboxer extraordinaire. In addition to being one of the best beatboxers on the planet, Kevin is a genius. He's classically trained on piano, saxophone, and cello. He's performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on saxophone and once on cello. He has invented a technique of beatboxing *while* playing the cello, which he calls "celloboxing." He's a graduate of Yale's pre-med program, and he speaks five languages, including Mandarin. And did I mention that he has a lovely tenor voice and is known for the great beauty of his falsetto register?

      Scott is covering the bass line here when Avi solos. Watch a live version to confirm.

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 Рік тому +1

      @@FarmerG65 Watching a live recording will tell you nothing about this recording. Scott ONLY does that in live performances. In official videos the bass records a second track with his own harmony line for his solo and they layer that in. They decided that it improved the sound quality just enough to justify the minor cheat.
      Yes, it's marvelous that Scott is able to do that. Yes, it's wonderful to watch him doing that in the live recordings. But live recordings prove nothing about official releases.

    In most of the songs that Pentatonix performs, Mitch's (round hat) and Kirstie's ranges overlap to an amazing degree. They don't really compete; PTX is very good at using whoever's voice is best suited to the moment to sing a part. For some more Kirstie-oriented moments, try Say Something, My Favorite Things, Rather Be (shows off her low range), or Be My Eyes. For more Mitch-oriented moments, try Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, or The Prayer - it's a Mitch powerhouse, and also has a call-and-echo between Mitch and Kirstie where you can really get an idea of how their voices are both similar and different.

    Congratulations on figuring out how to bypass the block so quickly. For US reactors, it seems to be the video image that triggers it, and they can avoid it by heavily altering the video image (usually by decreasing the display size, increasing the transparency and overlaying a graphic or text). But the rules may be different for non-US reactors. Anyway, you may get some complaints but the Pentatonix fans are used to it.
