A funny friend once had 8:00 on repeat as his ringtone. We were in class and he got a call but he forgot to put it on silent. So they made art that was...the best way I can describe it in a nutshell is "memes." Dadaist art really doesn't have any meaning or purpose. Its there as one big meaningless dump. They made films, poetry and, relevant to this discussion, paintings. Why am I bringing this up? Marcel Duchamp, one of the artists who worked in the movement, drew a goatee on a print of the Mona Lisa. That piece, apparently, is worth $750k (if the replies are to be believed, 0.1% of the original painting's worth). I'm not joking, Mona Lisa with a goatee is high art to a point that the original is worth a 2 bedroom house. Want me to turn this from an art lecture into something funny? That means the painting at 8:04 would actually be artistically justifiable if, at least in the world of the film, it wasn't the original.
I just love the fact that Bean doesn't just draw a random face to replace the damaged paint, he draws her with a comically long nose, which sort of means before he made the speech about Whistler's Mother being ugly he still thought the picture wasn't that great.
Because this scene carries a very deep meaning. We have all made mistakes in life that we want to fix. At the same time, we are scared that if we don’t fix them, it will hinder on someone else who may be rooting for you or counting on you. We get scared that we could possibly underperform and not live up to our expectations. Bean has showed us that no matter what, you can always fix what you believe to be broken.
