- This video demonstrates three different Princeton Reverb amps.
Right. 70 silverface Princeton Reverb with its original Oxford 10j4 speaker.
Middle. 66 blackface Princeton Reverb with its original Jensen C10n speaker.
Left. 77 silverface Princeton Reverb with a new Eminence Ramrod speaker.
The guitars used are
Baja Tele upgraded with Callaham bridge and Jumbo nickel frets (6105)
USA Custom Guitars strat with Lindy Fralin Hot vintage pickups, ash body, maple neck, nitro painted and relic by Gord Miller in Canada, ss6105 frets.
Wow at 1:03 it sounds like you turned the amp up. That C10N has a much bigger voice. Clearer bass, mids and highs. I have a '66 with the 10j4 and was seriously thinking of finding a C10N. The Oxford is really good but not anything magical. Thanks for posting.
Great work. Thank you!
As you just demonstrated, you can't beat the original Oxfords.
Jensen was there before Oxford and qualifies alot more as "the originals".
Finally a new video!
Keep them coming ;)
The blackface princeton with the Jensen is a lot clearer and more focused in a good way. The first one with the oxford sounds muddy and flabby. The last one is ok but the Jensem wins. Could be a black vs silver face thing but I don't think the circuits changed much on the smaller amps (champs, princetons, etc.
Jensen all the way!!
Although the ramrod sounded good, the Jensen C10n is what a real Princeton sounds like. Love a strat or tele thru a c10n Princeton.
Don't like the Ramrod, the Blackface sounds best but by only a touch, I think the Oxford silver face would suit my playing more, but my two fav amps 74 Bronco and Twin both have Oxfords and I love them.
65 Blackface Princeton Reverb in the middle ( by far ) with the Jensen C10n. Thats the Fender chime. Just listen to S.R.V. = Lenny or Riviera Paradise ( thats the tone ).
Great
I have a 67 Vibro Champ, and I tihnk the telefunkens in it are fake.. I replaced the speaker with a P8R but the sound it still pretty brittle.. Any recommendations?
A good 10" speaker or even better 12". Run it into another cab. Not only the 8" in it is terribly small, the size of the enclosure makes a difference too.
The oxford 10j4 sounds best clean the jensen c10n is better overall... and the eminence is just muddy clean and dirty lol
The Jensen 10n speaker sounds best!
