i can see Katara catching feebas and sokka saying it’s ugly and katara defends it saying it’s beautiful, and then once it evolves sokka’s mouth drops, it feels like an actual episode

I really loved how you went about the team building for this! Never would’ve thought to give a character an Ultra Beast, but Sokka with Kartana just works. A space sword Pokémon 😂
Exactly! I think in this universe, which would be a “fresh start” from both the Pokémon and Avatar ones, the Ultra Beasts could just be regular Pokémon like all the others. Though it was a nice bonus that it was originally designed to be from space.
I'm actually fine giving characters legendaries or Ultra Beasts if it fits their personality. e.g. Katara and Toph getting Kyogre and Groudon respectively.

However, if you want, you can still maintain the otherwordly feel the ultra beasts have by making it so they are beings from the spiritual word that somehow crossed the bridge between worlds and made it to the physical world.
Personally, I think Sokka should have had a member of the Oshawott line. It's evolutionary story of going from a child playing soldier to a fully realized samurai fits him way too well. Plus, Sokka is a very proud member of the Water Tribe, despite not being a water bender, so I wouldn't think that him having a water type would be too farfetched
A Prinplup for Aang would be rather funny, considering how he was voiced by Pablo. This is also neat in seeing the what-if based on their development, not always their inspirations.
I personally like to think the kartana was found in the meteorite chunk that Sokka brought to Master Lien dou since Kartana is an alien Pokémon, also it helps represent Sokka’s character arc since kartana is made of paper, which is vulnerable, but is incredibly strong as well
So I looked up pokemon with lightning rod since I thought it would fit Zuko's lightning redirection, but when I went to find one, I found out that Cubone, Marowak, and Alolan Marowak all get that as an ability. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but hats off to you for that
Eevee could work for Aang, since it also has the opportunity to “use multiple elements” (aka evolve into a lot of types), and both seem like they’re young and have the potential to grow
I would add Misdreavus/Mismagius to Sokka's team. I think during his various brushes with the spirit world he would eventually meet a mischievous ghost pokemon that wouldn't leave him alone :)
I would maybe even consider a scyther for Zuko, their innate rage and use of the dual blades mirroring Zuko’s fighting style and personality. Although the flames might be an issue for it.
Scyther being weak to fire works too I think. Zuko was self-destructive for a bit and was treated like the black sheep of the family, so Scyther sticking out makes sense

Azula could use shiny Emboar. She always believed that she is something important. Owning a shiny Pokémon could play into that. Also, shiny Emboar has blue flames.

I feel like Aang having a pichu would work quite well. Having a baby pokemon would show his caring side and it could fill a Momo type role. Pichu’s difficulty harnessing its electricity can tie into Aang’s difficulties with fire bending and his leaning of lightning redirection. Plus, on a meta level, the pikachu line is representative of the protagonist. It could even be the spiky ear kind to represent Aang’s uniqueness as both the avatar and the last airbender
I would switch altaria with either solgaleo or lunala or ultra necrozma to represent aang's journey of how he went from a untrained or inexperienced or not able to control their power like cosmog and normal form necrozma to a strong force and well trained hero but it's just my opinion.
Now for the sequel: - Korra = Urshifu rapid style (obviously), Mega Medicham (who is very strong physically but in the end taught her to connect spiritually) - Bolin = Quilava (Pabu) & Carkoal (goofy pokemon that taught him lavabending) - Mako = Golem-Alola (given by Bolin as geodude, and it taught him lightning bending/redirection) & Pyroar (female, and it turned out to be the only girl he understands) - Asami = Golurk (her mechanic side) & Salazzle (same eyeshadow and nod to her fire kingdom origin) - Tenzin = Primeape (he relates with primape's wrath/impatience, since Tenzin gained Katara's traits) & Staraptor (strong birb) - Lin Beifong = Terrakion & Cobalion (self-explanatory), Arcanine-Hisuian (she's a cop like Jenny, with rock as well), Stufful (I bet she secretly likes cute stuff and Stufful, who hates to be touched like her, only allows Lin to hug her)

This is such a cool idea. Looking forward to more. I was thinking about a Greninja for Zuko, personally, due to his "ninja" skills he's displayed as the blue spirit and during the Southern Raiders episode. A pokemon fit to help him on his stealthy escapades. Maybe he finds it as a Froakie while returning from the forest Aang left him in during the Blue Spirit episode. Maybe a Sceptile, Bisharp, Gallade or Scyther due to his love for blades? If it's Sceptile, Bisharp or Scyther, it could be a pokemon he's owned for a while but has managed to keep hidden because Fire Nation upperclass considers Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel types inferior. Also, maybe a Ludicolo for Aang because of its love for dancing?
I could really see Iroh vibing with Snorlax. Both are laid back, kind, and gentle but extremely capable of fighting when the need arises. The things that make them angry maybe be different but the things that make them happy are the same, good food and good company.
The only change I would make, is I could see Aang getting himself a Tornadus. Not only do I like the idea of the strongest airbender in the world having the game's only pure "Air"(Flying) type, but having a Legendary fits with Aang being the Avatar. Also, the fact Tornadus can change its form using the mirror to be symbolic of Aang being able to interact with the spirit world. Like maybe Tornadus would have one form normally in the real world, only to change into the other form when Aang goes to the spirit world to act as his guide.
Definitely an interesting concept with a lot of possibilities. Depending on how much inspiration you take from the anime vs the games you could also use some of these trade pokemon as part of the character progression. I'd imagine Toph's parents would provide her with some pokemon playmates, but because they see their blind daughter as a weak, frail little girl they would get very gentle pokemon that wouldn't really harm her like feebas and slowpoke who could live in the ponds at the Beifong estate. Iroh was formerly a great general of the fire nation, one who could bring great destruction upon his foes, after he lost his son, he reformed himself and sought a way to rebuild the lands he destroyed and conquered, hence him catching a timburr/gurdurr. Toph and Iroh befriend one another and as a sign of their friendship trade slowpoke and timburr/gurdurr. Iroh's patience and wisdom allows slowpoke to evolve into Slowking, while Toph's wait and listen approach to earth bending as well as her ability to quickly create structures from earth inspires gurdurr to eventually evolve into conkeldurr. In this proposed scenario I'm not really sure how or why Katara would get an onix, maybe Katarra wanted a rugged pokemon to try to understand Toph better or something. I could see a situation in Ba Sing Se where Toph has her feebas, thinking about her parents, when those mean girls walk by insulting Toph's physical appearance and saying that an ugly pokemon suits an ugly girl or something and Katara teaches her that true beauty isn't skin deep. They could then trade feebas and onix, with Katara being able to understand the true beauty of feebas and eventually evolving it into milotic, and Toph inventing metal bending and teaching onix to meld with metal to become Steelix. There's some other interesting options to think about as well. Zuko could obtain a weak and powerless magikarp, and through the many trials and tribulations he overcomes throughout his journey his magikarp would follow the legend of the koi fish and evolve into the dragon-like gyarados. In a similar vein, Zuko could also be raising a bagon, a hard headed dragon that constantly throws itself off cliffs in an attempt to fly and the bagon's journey to becoming salamence could likewise mirror Zuko's journey of throwing himself headfirst into all his problems without thinking and growing as an individual before coming to understand what fire bending truly is. Zuko could also have a Type: Null, a synthetic pokemon created to aide the Fire Nation in hunting down the Avatar or other powerful benders who oppose the Fire Nation, but was deemed a failure and cast out alongside Zuko, as Zuko begins to understand his true purpose and grows softer he opens up to Type: Null and it evolves into Sylvally, fully ready to aide him in his new goals.
Sokka with a Braviary sounds so cool and fitting to me. I’m just imagining a funny relationship where sokka, as he usually is, is over the top and dramatic and Braviary has to peck him back into place. He would catch it as a rufflet during that one episode where Sokka got stuck in the ground and that cute saber tooth baby thing bothered him, and instead of the saber tooth baby it was a rufflet.

I feel like Zuko’s Absol would approach him after his betrayal of Iro in Ba Sig Say. Zuko would continuously spot Absol through out his time at the fire palace but when ever he tries to point out the Absol it disappears. Azula and others will keep telling Zuko that there’s nothing there and that he’s going crazy. This symbolizing how hard it is for Zuko to go against what he’s been trying to achieve this whole series. Because of Absol, Zuko realizes that his true destiny is with Aang and in this moment Absol approaches Zuko allowing him to catch it. I really enjoyed this video thanks 😊

I love this concept, and Iron’s team is perfect, although looking at Zuko, I’d posit a different team for him imo. Charizard- I love this one, a royal family Pokémon, with Zuko’s becoming Mega Zard Y, just like his uncle’s, and he gets it when he visits the original firebending masters with Aang. Shiftry- to symbolize his time as the Blue Spirit, Shiftry gives his a Pokémon he can lean on when he needs to be stealthy and can’t rely on Charizard’s raw power and he needs to take a more subtle approach. Alolan Marowak- we all know of Cubone’s story, and Zuko has his own trauma of having his mother taken from him. We’ll give him the Alola variant to fit the firebender. Rhydon- Zuko catches it as a Rhyhorn after he and Iroh are declared fugitives. Doubling as a form of transport to ride on and a strong battler to turn to while trying to keep the fire identity quiet. Zoroark- the illusion pokemon. This Zoroark is actually his mother’s who she left behind to watch over him. Iroh takes it right as he’s banished and opts to give it to Zuko as it’s his by right. Venusaur- Similar to Iroh with Torterra. Venusaur symbolizes Zuko eventually becoming a more worldly person, as he gets it as a Bulbasaur after he becomes Fire Lord and around when he establishes Republic city. With Venusaur showing Zuko to become someone his uncle knew he could be.
My first thought for Toph was perhaps a Crobat starting as a Zubat, due to its use of sonar and lack of eyes, it would be an ideal partner to alert her to surroundings she can't detect like in the sky. Maybe not as necessary for her as her journey progresses, she could trade it to Iroh for Drilbur (it later evolving when she first metalbends) when Golbat finally evolves into Crobat, perhaps evolving during their interaction. The friendship evolution would be fitting for Iroh, and it being a poison-flying type that evolves via friendship would also be a subtle indication of his wanting Zuko to follow his heart rather than focus on winning back the affection of his toxic father by capturing the Avatar. But I also see Iroh releasing Crobat, yet it deciding it wants to stay anyway and remaining a valuable friend to him and the Order of the White Lotus.
5:27 I can’t quite picture Katara with Umbreon despite its ties to the moon 🌙 Vaporeon just seems to suit her better as a reflection of her becoming a Master Waterbender in her own right 💧
I actually think torterra would have been a good Pokémon for Aang instead. I feel like it could be a cool replacement for the role of the lion turtles in this universe. Aang would wake up in a strange forest and couldn’t bend the earth, only to realize it was because he was on the back of a giant torterra.

In general I like the ideas behind these teams, but for some folks the teams start to feel a bit same-y. Katara's got too many water types, why not replace Alolomola with Blissey, a designated healer? Or at least not have Snorunt not evolve into Froslass until Katara goes on her quest for Vengeance with Zuko. As a 6th (our main 4 benders should all have 6 IMO), I'd probably go with an Alolan Ninetails, to further emphasize the offensive strength of "water" (actually ice) but also nod to Katara's defensive strengths with Aurora Veil. Zuko's Typhlosion just kinda feels like "generic powerful fire type," why not replace with Arcanine, who is both regal and known (as a Growlithe) for being brave in the face of stronger foes (duel with Ozai pre-banishment)? As a 6th I'm tempted to to with Gliscor, acquired as a Gligar only after he'd betrayed his father for Team Avatar. To me, it's a representation of his newfound freedom (flying type associated with that for me, plus bonus connection to Aang), but also a sound "screw you" to Ozai and Azula's lightning bending. You say you don't want to give non-benders the standard bending types, but then 2/3 of Suki's team is water types, despite being an Earth Kingdom girl. I'd replace Oshawott with either Sandslash (blades but also Earth Kingdom origins) or Ninjask/Shedinja (playing up the ninja aspect but also speedy for Ninjask or Ghost-like for Shedinja). Maybe both, so she'd have 4 members (on par with Sokka).
Ok first off I have a hard time believing that people who aren’t benders in this world would have a hard time controlling Pokémon when in the actual games we get fully evolved Pokémon teams from children. Also the main character in every game is supposed to be a 10 or 11 year old child. So I think some of the non-benders should have had a full 5 to 6 member team simply due to them being apart of the main team. Moving on to Aang’s team, I feel like togekiss, prinplup, oranguru, and dragonite, are a good fit for his personality, but I don’t think altaria and passimian fit with Aang’s aesthetic. I feel like instead of a passimian, Aang would have caught a vigoroth simply due to Aang’s high energy and playfulness. Now as for altaria I feel like Aang is missing that key Pokémon that everyone is supposed to ride on when traveling and the only one I thought would fit is salamence. Appa is a creature that is big and menacing looking when in reality is just a big fluff ball which is hugely reminiscent of salamence. Huge, scary, and extremely protective but also massive teddy bear energy as well so I feel that salamence would have been a better fit. As for Katara’s team, I feel like most of the team would be a good fit for her. However, I feel like she needs a fully 6 membered team and a replacement for alomomola. I feel like kingdra would have been a better fit for Katara rather than alomomola due to the fierce and powerful feelings Katara has for her friends. As for the 6th member, it may sound cliché but I would have given her a gardevoir again for how strong her feelings for her friends are. Gardevoir is a such a protective Pokémon for its trainer and I feel like that would have made me fall in love with the team as a whole. As for Sokka, I would actually keep his team the same but I’d just add in a lucario due to how determined and focused Sokka was with his sword training. I feel like a little riolu would have been watching and admiring Sokka throughout his training and would have joined the team right as Sokka is about to leave not wanting Sokka to leave without it. I don’t feel like Sokka would need a full 6 member team as there just aren’t that many Pokémon that would fit with Sokka but if I had to add a 6th I’d give him a slakoth just for his lazy and sleepy nature. Next is Toph, I actually like her having a steelix but I feel like a fraxure would have been a better fit than excadrill. As for conkeldur and vibrava, I wouldn’t have changed them but I feel like whiscash and dugtrio wouldn’t be that great of a fit. I would have given her a galarian yamask as a gimmicky Pokémon due to the fact that she loves scaring the rest of the team with ghost stories and as for the 6th, I feel like there are much better options for Toph than just a dugtrio. Like mamoswine due to how easily she can defeat almost any earth bender or emboar for her fiery and angry personality. In my opinion, I would have given her the emboar. Going on to Suki’s team, I wouldn’t have changed the current 3 but I would have also given her a mienshao simply for how well it would have fit in with the current team but I’d have also given her a gallade simply for the aesthetic and power she brings to the table. Moving on to Zuko, I would not have given him a basic charizard or typhlosion due to their simplicity and that there are more complex fire types that would have fit. Instead, I’d have given him an infernape for his prowess and training and a talenflame due to his favorite pet being an eagle. Unconventionally, I wouldn’t have given him a houndoom, even though it’s my favorite fire type, or marowak but instead I’d have put absol in the place of marowak and a zeraora in the 6th place. As for the houndoom placement, I’d love to see Zuko get a baby Pokémon to help him bring out his caring side and help him overcome his aggression and insensitivity with others feelings so with that I’d give him a happiny that just hatched so he can learn to care for others or a baby mawile for the same reason. And last but certainly not the least, uncle Iroh, I actually love this team a lot lot and wouldn’t change most of his team. With that being said I would not have thought him to have an emboar. I feel like charizard would have been his top fire type and his primary source of flame. However, for emboar’s replacement, that is a tough question. I love Iroh’s worldly and fatherly demeanor and personality and love how he takes inspiration not just from his own culture but from other cultures as well. I feel like Iroh would have had another fire type Pokémon but I also feel like he could also have a mega pigeot as well, though admittedly, that wouldn’t work cuz most people don’t have 2 mega Pokémon on the same team. So for uncle Iroh, I feel like the only Pokémon that would truly fit would be the talented, fierce, and quick on its feet blaziken.
I honestly would’ve given Toph a Regirock. Aside from the obvious reasons of it being a Rock-type, the other reason is because its legend is tied to braille. Which is how blind people read.
I was hoping to see Admiral Zhao on here but he wasn't so I will make my own. I can see him having a Honchcrow, mainly for utility sake but also to be used as intimidation. It would become his staple. Seeing Honchcrow would signal to everyone that Admiral Zhao is either here, or very close to being there. I like your idea of the charmanders being gifted to every member of the royal family and if we are still using that in this comment, I think that he would have been an acceptation to this based off his sheer ruthlessness. I think he would have a Charizard that when mega evolved, it would evolve into Mega Charizard X. Not only would this show off his power, but also his authority. I personally believe that it would be gifted to him from the Fire Lord himself. However, I do not think that he would be gifted a mega stone for his Charizard, but would have rather found one instead. I can also see him having a Magmortar. I think it would have evolved during the siege of the north pole. Perhaps being just the right pokemon to allow him to get into the sacred spring or whatever it was in the north pole, which he then used its intimidation and power to keep everyone back as he slaughtered the moon spirit fish, as his Charizard would have been knocked out by water benders and/or water type pokemon. Lastly, I think that he would might have a vaporeon, I know that is an odd choice but it wouldn't have stuck around long. I think that he might have caught it by accident in a fishing net from one of the metal boats, but seeing as he was on his way to the north pole, he would have captured it with the belief that it would help lead him to the sacred spring with the koi fish seeing as while in water, it can become completely invisible, letting it slip past the water benders and water pokemon with ease. Seeing as Vaporeon are almost entirely water, I believe they would have deep connection with the moon and would thus be able to sense out the location of the spring by honing in one the presence of the moon spirit koi. After the siege, he would have released it as he would have felt he no longer has any use for it. Not only would him catching it and using it for such a purpose be cruel, but so would releasing it right after. I think he only sees pokemon as tools, both for power and personal use. They are simply a means to an end. He would have no real connection with his pokemon. He would be the Trip of the series. He has a small team for these reasons. Honchcrow is for relaying messages across long distances, Charizard is a symbol and display of power and status, Magmar (and later Magmortar) is for additional fire power. Vaporeon was for a search. Perhaps the Vaporeon might not have even been a wild one, but perhaps taken from a lower ranking soldier, but that wouldn't have stopped him from releasing it. I can see him releasing it on the grounds of it being a "disgrace" for a fire nation soldier to have a water type. How would he have released it if it wasn't his pokemon? Simple, he would have crushed the pokeball under his boot. Jesse released her dustox in this way, she didn't want to release it, in fact, she had tears streaming down her face as she did it. I don't remember why she did it, but it doesn't matter. A pokemon can return to it's trainer's pokeball if the pokeball no longer exists.
Don't know why, but I think Bisharp suits Zuko well. Just think they match in style. If I were to try to reason about it... It has blades... And it could be a Shiny one to represent his Blue Spirit shenanigans. It's not a fire type, but he didn't use his bending when disguised anyway
Aang wouldn't capture a single pokemon. He would probably have a few pokemon he befriended along the way following him, but he would not subject another life form to the confinement of a pokeball
I feel like Zuko would be given a pokemon by his mother which he hides from his father and probably azula that signifies love and he loved it until he got his scar then he neglected it and never used it until changing and joining team avatar but maybe a but earlier because thats long. I don't know which pokemon though. Any suggestions?
i like to think that sinnistea might’ve started to notice and follow iroh around on that one sad basing we episode.. and mb after where the episode cuts off, iroh is just relaxing and drinking tea next to his son’s photo and shrine, embracing the sunset.. he mistaken sinnistea as his cup of tea.. and grows interest due to the ghostly/spirit like nature and its tea cup build… and at the end of alta where soma is paint that big picture.. sinnistea could’ve have already been evolved (finding a cracker pot immediately after that taking back of basing se) or leaving off with after sokka shows off his painting, sinnistea or someone else finds a unique looking cracked pot and bring it to iroh’s attention

I could totally see Uncle Iroh rocking a shiny red Gyarados... he made a face like him when he drank the tea, and used this "Dragon Breath" on Azula in the Earth Kingdom, and despite Uncle Iroh being gentle, he can be atrocious when he needs to be, and he also was inspired by Water Bending. Shiny red Gyarados fits the bill to me! Imagine him rocking a Mega Red Gyarados during the events of Sozin's comet?!
I think for Aang I can totally see him with pichu (I know another comment said it already but still) since based on some Pokédex entrees it states that Pichu has a hard time to harness its electric powers so maybe someone gifted him a Pichu or he found an Pichu egg abandoned in a forest which it could show his caring side so maybe Altaria (or Togekiss if you want to take away one of them for Pichu) saved Pichu and possibly evolved after Aang forgiven Pichu for getting into trouble. Now this might be an odd ball but maybe Aang finds an thunder stone (or was gifted one) and it evolved into an Alolan Raichu since Aang struggled to harness his elemental powers so I can picture his Raichu also struggled harnessing it’s psychic powers so they both practiced to their elemental powers so they have a stronger bond.
I personally think that Infernape could be interchangeable for either Typhlosion or Charizard for Zuko. It would simply be a companion he caught early on and would evolve into a Monferno upon his banishment to represent his rage and determination to capture Aang. It would then later evolve into infernape during or after his battle with Azula in the last Agni Kai to show how much he and his partner have grown.
I like the idea of Aang's dragonair evolving when he and zuko do the dance with the two dragons, sort of representing both aang's journey and zuko's continuance of the firebending tradition, as its a gen 1 pokemon.

Lucario and zoroark would also be great for sokka. During book one the gaang finds a sad lonely riolu, they figure out he is often ridiculed for being a baby, similar to how sokka is for not being a bender. Sokka accepts riolu, making riolu happy for being accepted and due to high friendship evolves later into lucario. Zoroark with it's illusions could do a lot of creative trickery, sokka is pretty creative. this way they can fool fire nations soldiers with illusionary distractions or disguises.
You knowhow busted it would be for Katara to have a water based team? She can redirect attacks that are about to be dodged, make attacks come back that missed, she essentially has 2 attacks for every one attack. I liiike.
One other neat thing about a Marowak for Zuko is one of its Abilities: Lightning Rod, which is a good nod to learning lightning redirection. It would also complement Sokka/Aang's Marowak for The Boiling Rock and for when Zuko passes down lightning redirection to Aang.
I feel like toph would have either a melmetal since in the anime, he was always flexing his muscles and when toph was played by a buff dude in the play near the end of the show, she enjoyed it, plus melmetal has metal in the name
Wonderful video, but how did Suki not have a Mienfoo/Mienshao? Those absolutely would be hanging around Kyoshi Island and would complement her perfectly.
i think it would be really cool if maybe in the finale at ba sing se, iroh just suddenly reveals that he befriended reshiram. Then he uses it to help take back ba sing se

I bet the worshipped Dragon types are Reshiram and Zekrom. They are Legendaries of both Fire and Lightning respectively, elements that can be used by Firebenders. They represent Yin and Yang, and stand for Truth and Ideals. Honestly, it just makes a lot of sense.
Since he has deep emotional ties to the Southern Water Tribe I would think Sokka would have at least one water type. Dewott orSamurott would have been a good choice for him, I'd think.
I love this video and can't wait for that 2nd part you were hinting about, I especially love how Sokka and Zuko both have a Marowak, all be it 2 different forms of it but still, because while Zuko and Aang is a good friendship, I loved the episode where Sokka and Zuko go to free Suki and Hakoda, and their friendship is much better in my opinion, whether that was intentional or not I love the teams and can't wait for more
What I like about this was how far you thought in to how people built their teams. I think a lot of people making a video like this would shoehorn some extra Pokémon in to make a full team of 6
Thank you! Preserving the identity of each character was hugely important, hence only top tier benders and experts having something close to a full team, as well as main characters, since we'd naturally see them go through more events which may contribute to more additions.

Like Toph could catch a Hisuian Growlithe or a Rolycoly or Carkoal and evolve them Hisuian Arcanine and Coalossal by the time of Sozin's comet or the epilogue comics. And Sokka could catch a Fletchling or Fletchinder and have it eventually evolve into Talonflame.
i can see Katara catching feebas and sokka saying it’s ugly and katara defends it saying it’s beautiful, and then once it evolves sokka’s mouth drops, it feels like an actual episode

Exactly! I think in this universe, which would be a “fresh start” from both the Pokémon and Avatar ones, the Ultra Beasts could just be regular Pokémon like all the others. Though it was a nice bonus that it was originally designed to be from space.

I'm actually fine giving characters legendaries or Ultra Beasts if it fits their personality.

However, if you want, you can still maintain the otherwordly feel the ultra beasts have by making it so they are beings from the spiritual word that somehow crossed the bridge between worlds and made it to the physical world.

Personally, I think Sokka should have had a member of the Oshawott line. It's evolutionary story of going from a child playing soldier to a fully realized samurai fits him way too well. Plus, Sokka is a very proud member of the Water Tribe, despite not being a water bender, so I wouldn't think that him having a water type would be too farfetched

I personally like to think the kartana was found in the meteorite chunk that Sokka brought to Master Lien dou since Kartana is an alien Pokémon, also it helps represent Sokka’s character arc since kartana is made of paper, which is vulnerable, but is incredibly strong as well

The Frosslass could evolve during the events of The Painted Lady when Katara showed a ghostly facade while becoming the protector of the village.
Vibrava/Flygon also really fit with Toph serving as her eyes in the sky while keeping her ability of seismic sense.

So I looked up pokemon with lightning rod since I thought it would fit Zuko's lightning redirection, but when I went to find one, I found out that Cubone, Marowak, and Alolan Marowak all get that as an ability. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but hats off to you for that

I feel like Aang having a pichu would work quite well. Having a baby pokemon would show his caring side and it could fill a Momo type role. Pichu’s difficulty harnessing its electricity can tie into Aang’s difficulties with fire bending and his leaning of lightning redirection. Plus, on a meta level, the pikachu line is representative of the protagonist. It could even be the spiky ear kind to represent Aang’s uniqueness as both the avatar and the last airbender
I would switch altaria with either solgaleo or lunala or ultra necrozma to represent aang's journey of how he went from a untrained or inexperienced or not able to control their power like cosmog and normal form necrozma to a strong force and well trained hero but it's just my opinion.

- Lin Beifong = Terrakion & Cobalion (self-explanatory), Arcanine-Hisuian (she's a cop like Jenny, with rock as well), Stufful (I bet she secretly likes cute stuff and Stufful, who hates to be touched like her, only allows Lin to hug her)

This is such a cool idea. Looking forward to more. I was thinking about a Greninja for Zuko, personally, due to his "ninja" skills he's displayed as the blue spirit and during the Southern Raiders episode. A pokemon fit to help him on his stealthy escapades. Maybe he finds it as a Froakie while returning from the forest Aang left him in during the Blue Spirit episode.
Maybe a Sceptile, Bisharp, Gallade or Scyther due to his love for blades? If it's Sceptile, Bisharp or Scyther, it could be a pokemon he's owned for a while but has managed to keep hidden because Fire Nation upperclass considers Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel types inferior.
Also, maybe a Ludicolo for Aang because of its love for dancing?

I could really see Iroh vibing with Snorlax. Both are laid back, kind, and gentle but extremely capable of fighting when the need arises.
The things that make them angry maybe be different but the things that make them happy are the same, good food and good company.

Personally, I would have gone with Slacking for similar reasons.
The only change I would make, is I could see Aang getting himself a Tornadus. Not only do I like the idea of the strongest airbender in the world having the game's only pure "Air"(Flying) type, but having a Legendary fits with Aang being the Avatar. Also, the fact Tornadus can change its form using the mirror to be symbolic of Aang being able to interact with the spirit world. Like maybe Tornadus would have one form normally in the real world, only to change into the other form when Aang goes to the spirit world to act as his guide.
I'd have had Iroh's Charizard have passed away before the show and give him a torkoal that he'd use to heat water to brew his tea
Definitely an interesting concept with a lot of possibilities. Depending on how much inspiration you take from the anime vs the games you could also use some of these trade pokemon as part of the character progression.
I'd imagine Toph's parents would provide her with some pokemon playmates, but because they see their blind daughter as a weak, frail little girl they would get very gentle pokemon that wouldn't really harm her like feebas and slowpoke who could live in the ponds at the Beifong estate. Iroh was formerly a great general of the fire nation, one who could bring great destruction upon his foes, after he lost his son, he reformed himself and sought a way to rebuild the lands he destroyed and conquered, hence him catching a timburr/gurdurr. Toph and Iroh befriend one another and as a sign of their friendship trade slowpoke and timburr/gurdurr. Iroh's patience and wisdom allows slowpoke to evolve into Slowking, while Toph's wait and listen approach to earth bending as well as her ability to quickly create structures from earth inspires gurdurr to eventually evolve into conkeldurr.
In this proposed scenario I'm not really sure how or why Katara would get an onix, maybe Katarra wanted a rugged pokemon to try to understand Toph better or something. I could see a situation in Ba Sing Se where Toph has her feebas, thinking about her parents, when those mean girls walk by insulting Toph's physical appearance and saying that an ugly pokemon suits an ugly girl or something and Katara teaches her that true beauty isn't skin deep. They could then trade feebas and onix, with Katara being able to understand the true beauty of feebas and eventually evolving it into milotic, and Toph inventing metal bending and teaching onix to meld with metal to become Steelix.
There's some other interesting options to think about as well. Zuko could obtain a weak and powerless magikarp, and through the many trials and tribulations he overcomes throughout his journey his magikarp would follow the legend of the koi fish and evolve into the dragon-like gyarados. In a similar vein, Zuko could also be raising a bagon, a hard headed dragon that constantly throws itself off cliffs in an attempt to fly and the bagon's journey to becoming salamence could likewise mirror Zuko's journey of throwing himself headfirst into all his problems without thinking and growing as an individual before coming to understand what fire bending truly is. Zuko could also have a Type: Null, a synthetic pokemon created to aide the Fire Nation in hunting down the Avatar or other powerful benders who oppose the Fire Nation, but was deemed a failure and cast out alongside Zuko, as Zuko begins to understand his true purpose and grows softer he opens up to Type: Null and it evolves into Sylvally, fully ready to aide him in his new goals.

Sokka with a Braviary sounds so cool and fitting to me. I’m just imagining a funny relationship where sokka, as he usually is, is over the top and dramatic and Braviary has to peck him back into place. He would catch it as a rufflet during that one episode where Sokka got stuck in the ground and that cute saber tooth baby thing bothered him, and instead of the saber tooth baby it was a rufflet.

I feel like Zuko’s Absol would approach him after his betrayal of Iro in Ba Sig Say. Zuko would continuously spot Absol through out his time at the fire palace but when ever he tries to point out the Absol it disappears. Azula and others will keep telling Zuko that there’s nothing there and that he’s going crazy. This symbolizing how hard it is for Zuko to go against what he’s been trying to achieve this whole series. Because of Absol, Zuko realizes that his true destiny is with Aang and in this moment Absol approaches Zuko allowing him to catch it.

I love this concept, and Iron’s team is perfect, although looking at Zuko, I’d posit a different team for him imo.
Charizard- I love this one, a royal family Pokémon, with Zuko’s becoming Mega Zard Y, just like his uncle’s, and he gets it when he visits the original firebending masters with Aang.
Shiftry- to symbolize his time as the Blue Spirit, Shiftry gives his a Pokémon he can lean on when he needs to be stealthy and can’t rely on Charizard’s raw power and he needs to take a more subtle approach.
Alolan Marowak- we all know of Cubone’s story, and Zuko has his own trauma of having his mother taken from him. We’ll give him the Alola variant to fit the firebender.
Rhydon- Zuko catches it as a Rhyhorn after he and Iroh are declared fugitives. Doubling as a form of transport to ride on and a strong battler to turn to while trying to keep the fire identity quiet.
Zoroark- the illusion pokemon. This Zoroark is actually his mother’s who she left behind to watch over him. Iroh takes it right as he’s banished and opts to give it to Zuko as it’s his by right.
Venusaur- Similar to Iroh with Torterra. Venusaur symbolizes Zuko eventually becoming a more worldly person, as he gets it as a Bulbasaur after he becomes Fire Lord and around when he establishes Republic city. With Venusaur showing Zuko to become someone his uncle knew he could be.
Some neat ideas here.

My first thought for Toph was perhaps a Crobat starting as a Zubat, due to its use of sonar and lack of eyes, it would be an ideal partner to alert her to surroundings she can't detect like in the sky. Maybe not as necessary for her as her journey progresses, she could trade it to Iroh for Drilbur (it later evolving when she first metalbends) when Golbat finally evolves into Crobat, perhaps evolving during their interaction. The friendship evolution would be fitting for Iroh, and it being a poison-flying type that evolves via friendship would also be a subtle indication of his wanting Zuko to follow his heart rather than focus on winning back the affection of his toxic father by capturing the Avatar. But I also see Iroh releasing Crobat, yet it deciding it wants to stay anyway and remaining a valuable friend to him and the Order of the White Lotus.

I actually think torterra would have been a good Pokémon for Aang instead. I feel like it could be a cool replacement for the role of the lion turtles in this universe. Aang would wake up in a strange forest and couldn’t bend the earth, only to realize it was because he was on the back of a giant torterra.

In general I like the ideas behind these teams, but for some folks the teams start to feel a bit same-y. Katara's got too many water types, why not replace Alolomola with Blissey, a designated healer? Or at least not have Snorunt not evolve into Froslass until Katara goes on her quest for Vengeance with Zuko. As a 6th (our main 4 benders should all have 6 IMO), I'd probably go with an Alolan Ninetails, to further emphasize the offensive strength of "water" (actually ice) but also nod to Katara's defensive strengths with Aurora Veil.
Zuko's Typhlosion just kinda feels like "generic powerful fire type," why not replace with Arcanine, who is both regal and known (as a Growlithe) for being brave in the face of stronger foes (duel with Ozai pre-banishment)? As a 6th I'm tempted to to with Gliscor, acquired as a Gligar only after he'd betrayed his father for Team Avatar. To me, it's a representation of his newfound freedom (flying type associated with that for me, plus bonus connection to Aang), but also a sound "screw you" to Ozai and Azula's lightning bending.
You say you don't want to give non-benders the standard bending types, but then 2/3 of Suki's team is water types, despite being an Earth Kingdom girl. I'd replace Oshawott with either Sandslash (blades but also Earth Kingdom origins) or Ninjask/Shedinja (playing up the ninja aspect but also speedy for Ninjask or Ghost-like for Shedinja). Maybe both, so she'd have 4 members (on par with Sokka).

Ok first off I have a hard time believing that people who aren’t benders in this world would have a hard time controlling Pokémon when in the actual games we get fully evolved Pokémon teams from children. Also the main character in every game is supposed to be a 10 or 11 year old child. So I think some of the non-benders should have had a full 5 to 6 member team simply due to them being apart of the main team.
Moving on to Aang’s team, I feel like togekiss, prinplup, oranguru, and dragonite, are a good fit for his personality, but I don’t think altaria and passimian fit with Aang’s aesthetic. I feel like instead of a passimian, Aang would have caught a vigoroth simply due to Aang’s high energy and playfulness. Now as for altaria I feel like Aang is missing that key Pokémon that everyone is supposed to ride on when traveling and the only one I thought would fit is salamence. Appa is a creature that is big and menacing looking when in reality is just a big fluff ball which is hugely reminiscent of salamence. Huge, scary, and extremely protective but also massive teddy bear energy as well so I feel that salamence would have been a better fit.
As for Katara’s team, I feel like most of the team would be a good fit for her. However, I feel like she needs a fully 6 membered team and a replacement for alomomola. I feel like kingdra would have been a better fit for Katara rather than alomomola due to the fierce and powerful feelings Katara has for her friends. As for the 6th member, it may sound cliché but I would have given her a gardevoir again for how strong her feelings for her friends are. Gardevoir is a such a protective Pokémon for its trainer and I feel like that would have made me fall in love with the team as a whole.
As for Sokka, I would actually keep his team the same but I’d just add in a lucario due to how determined and focused Sokka was with his sword training. I feel like a little riolu would have been watching and admiring Sokka throughout his training and would have joined the team right as Sokka is about to leave not wanting Sokka to leave without it. I don’t feel like Sokka would need a full 6 member team as there just aren’t that many Pokémon that would fit with Sokka but if I had to add a 6th I’d give him a slakoth just for his lazy and sleepy nature.
Next is Toph, I actually like her having a steelix but I feel like a fraxure would have been a better fit than excadrill. As for conkeldur and vibrava, I wouldn’t have changed them but I feel like whiscash and dugtrio wouldn’t be that great of a fit. I would have given her a galarian yamask as a gimmicky Pokémon due to the fact that she loves scaring the rest of the team with ghost stories and as for the 6th, I feel like there are much better options for Toph than just a dugtrio. Like mamoswine due to how easily she can defeat almost any earth bender or emboar for her fiery and angry personality. In my opinion, I would have given her the emboar.
Going on to Suki’s team, I wouldn’t have changed the current 3 but I would have also given her a mienshao simply for how well it would have fit in with the current team but I’d have also given her a gallade simply for the aesthetic and power she brings to the table.
Moving on to Zuko, I would not have given him a basic charizard or typhlosion due to their simplicity and that there are more complex fire types that would have fit. Instead, I’d have given him an infernape for his prowess and training and a talenflame due to his favorite pet being an eagle. Unconventionally, I wouldn’t have given him a houndoom, even though it’s my favorite fire type, or marowak but instead I’d have put absol in the place of marowak and a zeraora in the 6th place. As for the houndoom placement, I’d love to see Zuko get a baby Pokémon to help him bring out his caring side and help him overcome his aggression and insensitivity with others feelings so with that I’d give him a happiny that just hatched so he can learn to care for others or a baby mawile for the same reason.
And last but certainly not the least, uncle Iroh, I actually love this team a lot lot and wouldn’t change most of his team. With that being said I would not have thought him to have an emboar. I feel like charizard would have been his top fire type and his primary source of flame. However, for emboar’s replacement, that is a tough question. I love Iroh’s worldly and fatherly demeanor and personality and love how he takes inspiration not just from his own culture but from other cultures as well. I feel like Iroh would have had another fire type Pokémon but I also feel like he could also have a mega pigeot as well, though admittedly, that wouldn’t work cuz most people don’t have 2 mega Pokémon on the same team. So for uncle Iroh, I feel like the only Pokémon that would truly fit would be the talented, fierce, and quick on its feet blaziken.
I honestly would’ve given Toph a Regirock.
Aside from the obvious reasons of it being a Rock-type, the other reason is because its legend is tied to braille. Which is how blind people read.
I was hoping to see Admiral Zhao on here but he wasn't so I will make my own. I can see him having a Honchcrow, mainly for utility sake but also to be used as intimidation. It would become his staple. Seeing Honchcrow would signal to everyone that Admiral Zhao is either here, or very close to being there. I like your idea of the charmanders being gifted to every member of the royal family and if we are still using that in this comment, I think that he would have been an acceptation to this based off his sheer ruthlessness. I think he would have a Charizard that when mega evolved, it would evolve into Mega Charizard X. Not only would this show off his power, but also his authority. I personally believe that it would be gifted to him from the Fire Lord himself. However, I do not think that he would be gifted a mega stone for his Charizard, but would have rather found one instead. I can also see him having a Magmortar. I think it would have evolved during the siege of the north pole. Perhaps being just the right pokemon to allow him to get into the sacred spring or whatever it was in the north pole, which he then used its intimidation and power to keep everyone back as he slaughtered the moon spirit fish, as his Charizard would have been knocked out by water benders and/or water type pokemon. Lastly, I think that he would might have a vaporeon, I know that is an odd choice but it wouldn't have stuck around long. I think that he might have caught it by accident in a fishing net from one of the metal boats, but seeing as he was on his way to the north pole, he would have captured it with the belief that it would help lead him to the sacred spring with the koi fish seeing as while in water, it can become completely invisible, letting it slip past the water benders and water pokemon with ease. Seeing as Vaporeon are almost entirely water, I believe they would have deep connection with the moon and would thus be able to sense out the location of the spring by honing in one the presence of the moon spirit koi. After the siege, he would have released it as he would have felt he no longer has any use for it. Not only would him catching it and using it for such a purpose be cruel, but so would releasing it right after. I think he only sees pokemon as tools, both for power and personal use. They are simply a means to an end. He would have no real connection with his pokemon. He would be the Trip of the series. He has a small team for these reasons. Honchcrow is for relaying messages across long distances, Charizard is a symbol and display of power and status, Magmar (and later Magmortar) is for additional fire power. Vaporeon was for a search. Perhaps the Vaporeon might not have even been a wild one, but perhaps taken from a lower ranking soldier, but that wouldn't have stopped him from releasing it. I can see him releasing it on the grounds of it being a "disgrace" for a fire nation soldier to have a water type. How would he have released it if it wasn't his pokemon? Simple, he would have crushed the pokeball under his boot. Jesse released her dustox in this way, she didn't want to release it, in fact, she had tears streaming down her face as she did it. I don't remember why she did it, but it doesn't matter. A pokemon can return to it's trainer's pokeball if the pokeball no longer exists.
Don't know why, but I think Bisharp suits Zuko well. Just think they match in style.
If I were to try to reason about it... It has blades... And it could be a Shiny one to represent his Blue Spirit shenanigans. It's not a fire type, but he didn't use his bending when disguised anyway
Aang wouldn't capture a single pokemon. He would probably have a few pokemon he befriended along the way following him, but he would not subject another life form to the confinement of a pokeball
I feel like Zuko would be given a pokemon by his mother which he hides from his father and probably azula that signifies love and he loved it until he got his scar then he neglected it and never used it until changing and joining team avatar but maybe a but earlier because thats long. I don't know which pokemon though. Any suggestions?
i like to think that sinnistea might’ve started to notice and follow iroh around on that one sad basing we episode.. and mb after where the episode cuts off, iroh is just relaxing and drinking tea next to his son’s photo and shrine, embracing the sunset.. he mistaken sinnistea as his cup of tea.. and grows interest due to the ghostly/spirit like nature and its tea cup build… and at the end of alta where soma is paint that big picture.. sinnistea could’ve have already been evolved (finding a cracker pot immediately after that taking back of basing se) or leaving off with after sokka shows off his painting, sinnistea or someone else finds a unique looking cracked pot and bring it to iroh’s attention

Mako should have a arcanine on his team he got him as a growlithe from his mom before their parents where murdered and the growlithe helped him protect Bolin on the streets and later on as a police officer

I could totally see Uncle Iroh rocking a shiny red Gyarados... he made a face like him when he drank the tea, and used this "Dragon Breath" on Azula in the Earth Kingdom, and despite Uncle Iroh being gentle, he can be atrocious when he needs to be, and he also was inspired by Water Bending. Shiny red Gyarados fits the bill to me!

I think for Aang I can totally see him with pichu (I know another comment said it already but still) since based on some Pokédex entrees it states that Pichu has a hard time to harness its electric powers so maybe someone gifted him a Pichu or he found an Pichu egg abandoned in a forest which it could show his caring side so maybe Altaria (or Togekiss if you want to take away one of them for Pichu) saved Pichu and possibly evolved after Aang forgiven Pichu for getting into trouble. Now this might be an odd ball but maybe Aang finds an thunder stone (or was gifted one) and it evolved into an Alolan Raichu since Aang struggled to harness his elemental powers so I can picture his Raichu also struggled harnessing it’s psychic powers so they both practiced to their elemental powers so they have a stronger bond.

I personally think that Infernape could be interchangeable for either Typhlosion or Charizard for Zuko. It would simply be a companion he caught early on and would evolve into a Monferno upon his banishment to represent his rage and determination to capture Aang. It would then later evolve into infernape during or after his battle with Azula in the last Agni Kai to show how much he and his partner have grown.
I love your reasoning here! Infernape would be a perfect alternate member. Just wanted to avoid using too many powerful starters for a single trainer.
I could really see a moment where Iroh reveals his stronger Pokémon. I could also see him having his Sinistea being out of its Pokeball at all times.

I like the idea of Aang's dragonair evolving when he and zuko do the dance with the two dragons, sort of representing both aang's journey and zuko's continuance of the firebending tradition, as its a gen 1 pokemon.

The only suggestion I would make would be instead of Typhlosion, I think a Combusken or Blaziken. Combusken to me matches Zuko's energy pretty well

Lucario and zoroark would also be great for sokka. During book one the gaang finds a sad lonely riolu, they figure out he is often ridiculed for being a baby, similar to how sokka is for not being a bender. Sokka accepts riolu, making riolu happy for being accepted and due to high friendship evolves later into lucario. Zoroark with it's illusions could do a lot of creative trickery, sokka is pretty creative. this way they can fool fire nations soldiers with illusionary distractions or disguises.
Those two are great fits.
Ditto would be fun for Sokka. Adaptability is a big part of Sokka.

You knowhow busted it would be for Katara to have a water based team? She can redirect attacks that are about to be dodged, make attacks come back that missed, she essentially has 2 attacks for every one attack. I liiike.
Exactly, skilled benders with full Pokémon teams that match their abilities would be insanely powerful and an epic spectacle.
One other neat thing about a Marowak for Zuko is one of its Abilities: Lightning Rod, which is a good nod to learning lightning redirection.
It would also complement Sokka/Aang's Marowak for The Boiling Rock and for when Zuko passes down lightning redirection to Aang.
I feel like toph would have either a melmetal since in the anime, he was always flexing his muscles and when toph was played by a buff dude in the play near the end of the show, she enjoyed it, plus melmetal has metal in the name

I bet the worshipped Dragon types are Reshiram and Zekrom. They are Legendaries of both Fire and Lightning respectively, elements that can be used by Firebenders. They represent Yin and Yang, and stand for Truth and Ideals.
Honestly, it just makes a lot of sense.

Since he has deep emotional ties to the Southern Water Tribe I would think Sokka would have at least one water type. Dewott orSamurott would have been a good choice for him, I'd think.

I love this video and can't wait for that 2nd part you were hinting about, I especially love how Sokka and Zuko both have a Marowak, all be it 2 different forms of it but still, because while Zuko and Aang is a good friendship, I loved the episode where Sokka and Zuko go to free Suki and Hakoda, and their friendship is much better in my opinion, whether that was intentional or not I love the teams and can't wait for more

Thank you! Preserving the identity of each character was hugely important, hence only top tier benders and experts having something close to a full team, as well as main characters, since we'd naturally see them go through more events which may contribute to more additions.
@@TamValleyProductions What if members of Team Avatar caught Pokémon native to the Fire Nation during their time there? Both to help them blend in and for story purposes. Like Toph could catch a Hisuian Growlithe or a Rolycoly or Carkoal and evolve them Hisuian Arcanine and Coalossal by the time of Sozin's comet or the epilogue comics. And Sokka could catch a Fletchling or Fletchinder and have it eventually evolve into Talonflame.
