- Come along with us as we try Western-style Carolina BBQ. We go to nationally known Lexington Barbecue, to try out their authentic Carolina Western-Style BBQ. They cook pork shoulders slowly over oak and hickory coals for 10-12 hours. Let’s see if we can taste the difference.

I used to make deliveries down past there, and I've driven by this place many times. Never have stopped and tried it. Thank you for reviewing it.
I am curious.....Was that the first time David had ever tried Cheerwine?
No I have tried Cheerwine before. You just don't see it around here where we live at much. Another drink that I like is Sundrop. Both of those drinks are popular in the Carolina's. I liked Sundrop because they were a sponsor of Dale Earnhardt. When we left this bbq restaurant I stopped by the Food Lion in Lexington and picked up some 2 liters of both of them and brought them home. If you ever make it back to the Lexington area you should stop and try this place out. I think you would like it. Hope you are doing well and thanks so much for watching and commenting. Have a great week!!
Lexington Barbecue is world famous, especially in North Carolina, and their reputation for great barbecue stands alone. This style of barbecue is called “Lexington Style” or “Western North Carolina Style”. A tomato-based sauce is used verses the “Eastern North Carolina Style”, which is a vinegar-based sauce. I am almost ashamed to say that I have not eaten at Lexington before, but that will change soon! Y’all enjoy!!
This is the first time that I have eaten the Lexington/Western NC style bbq. Until I researched it a bit I didn't think it had vinegar in it, thought it was just tomato based. I'm use to the Eastern NC style. This was really good too. Let us know what you think when you try it! Hope you are well!
@@vafunseekers I have only had western NC bbq a few times over the years since I live in eastern NC. I have no problem with the western NC sauce, but some people are very committed to their preference. Thanks for sharing the review David and Cindy!!
Thanks for an honest review of one of our local treasures! The Honey Monk has always delivered quality food and service. We call it BBQ slaw or red slaw which is also great on burgers and dogs. Leave the sauce on the table and always use the dip. I’ve heard visitors from up north come in asking for ribs and brisket before and get mad when they see it’s pork shoulder only. This tradition is strung out through the community with many locals smoking shoulders and chicken halves on a regular basis. Glad yall enjoyed! God bless!
We loved visiting. We are huge fans of NC BBQ. Hoping to get back to NC to do a review at another bbq place soon. I will remember to always ask for dip!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 😀
Thanks for yet another great video. Carley, I’m subscribed, hit the bell AND hit the like button😉 God bless you all.🙏
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate you watching and commenting.
It was nice to meet you in line! I am SO glad you loved our state’s western style barbecue! Lexington’s is THE place!
It was nice meeting you too. We definitely enjoyed the bbq at Lexington Barbecue. I know North Carolina is proud of this style bbq. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you are doing well.
Glad you got to try Lexington BBQ! We are used to Eastern NC BBQ, but we really like Lexington BBQ also. We like the Lexington area in general. We can't get over how much Carly has grown and matured in the last year. Hope your new year has been a good one so far.
We enjoyed Lexington BBQ. So glad we actually got to try it finally. Carly continues to grow way too fast for us! I enjoy her now so much but when I see pictures of her younger it definitely tugs at my heart. I've enjoyed all her stages so far. I think about how fast time is going by and before you know it she will be driving and going off to college. I just pray that God continues to watch over her and keeps her safe in all that she does. Hard to believe we already finished one week of 2024!
From the inside you wouldn't know it was a smokehouse. Food looks great and another great video. Keep them coming you guys are great.
I love that they still fix the barbecue old school. It's always interesting seeing how people smoke/cook their bbq. We enjoyed trying Lexington Style. Definitely great food here. It's very popular!
@@vafunseekers ❤️
Lexington BBQ is a good place. It has been around forever. So glad you guys got to try it out. Next time I go I might order the peach cobbler with ice cream. That looked soooo goood!
It was delicious! Looking forward to trying out some more nc bbq places.
Glad to see you are doing more BBQ reviews, I look forward to more to come and God Bless!
More to come! We have had requests for more BBQ restaurant reviews. So we will try to bring more to the channel. We have a list of different places we are wanting to try and requests from subscribers. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Great food + great service can't be beat. Definitely different BBQ style than out west here.
Never heard of ketchup in Cole Slaw! 🤔 Google brought recipes right up: "Lexington-Style Red Slaw" WOW. I'm actually a daily slaw eater 😂 Can't wait to make this version.
Great Video!
David thought the slaw was good! Let us know how you like it when you make it. We enjoyed the food and service here. We like the old school style bbq places.
Looked like another restaurant specializing in great barbecue. Food looked scrumptious. Wish you had brought me some!!
I cleaned my plate so I didn't have any left. lol
So excited to see you tried Lexington BBQ. We are from eastern NC, but we fairly recently tried Lexington barbeque, and we really like it. We like Lexington the town also. Really enjoyed this video.
We did enjoy it so much! We were shocked at how many people were there at a time that we thought would be an off time. Where is your favorite BBQ place in NC? I know you have tried quite a few. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
@@vafunseekers we love Wilbers. I really like Coopers and Lexington BBQ. Another place in Lexington we like is TarHeel Q. We have been to Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson, which had great burnt ends and brisket. NC Memory Makers turned us on to Haywood Smokehouse for brisket and burnt ends. We saw someone comment to you about Johnny's BBQ in Louisburg. We plan to try that place next.
I have been eating there since 1986! It’s has stayed the same in all those years! Great BBQ!
You know a place is good when they keep things the same for those many years. We really enjoyed going to Lexington BBQ. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
That's up there at the top in BBQ. The dip is like magic. The slaw works on a sandwich too as the tang goes with the pork. Lexington BBQ is an icon in NC for a reason. Wayne Monk created something special and his son is keeping it going!
We have a video from Clyde Cooper's in Raleigh if you have not seen that you might enjoy it. Have you been to Stamey's? We are wanting to go there to try out their bbq. We love the old school bbq joints. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@vafunseekers I can't believe I've never been to Stamey's but I believe it's worth the trip from what I've heard. Both Bridges BBQ's in Shelby, NC have the Lexington vibe. I love the old school places too. Eastern NC has plenty of good ones too! I'll check out the Clyde Cooper's video. I can't wait to retire someday to visit all of them!
@@smokingtarheel3003We are also wanting to go to Skylight Inn in Ayden, NC. I almost forgot we did a review of Wilber's BBQ in Goldsboro. That was also delicious.
@@vafunseekers Skylight Inn is on my bucket list!
Yes! Awesome place! And, Cheerwine is the best drink around. Besides sweet tea, that is!😊❤
We sure enjoyed our food at Lexington Barbecue. I know Cheerwine is a favorite of locals. Do you live in the area? David stopped by and got him a two liter of Cheerwine to bring home. Hope you have an awesome week!
@vafunseekers I live about 72 miles from Lexington in the Charlotte area. I've loved Cheerwine for so, so long!
BBQ looked great but I don't think I am brave enough for the slaw. Love Cheerwine always pick up a 12 pack when we are in the area. Going to add this to the list of places to stop. Y'all stay warm and safe travels.
David really enjoyed the slaw. Do you think you wouldn't like the tomato in it instead of mayo? I think you would like this place. It's old school and nothing fancy, but good food. We are trying to stay warm but we are hoping for some snow. So feel free to do a snow dance for us in Florida. lol
Nice video.....I grew up not far from Lexington and it inspired me to cook barbecue (lexington style). The red slaw we call "red slaw" or "Carolina Slaw". It has been years since I've ate there and we need to go and do a review for our cooking channel. When we want barbecue we usually cook our own. Glad you liked it.
Would love to see your review on your cooking channel. What is the name of your cooking channel?
@@vafunseekers we moved our cooking over to “Carolina Blue Smoke BBQ and Outdoor Cooking”. We plan on doing food reviews and recipes there. Thank you.

Been there several times going to/from the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer. Always a great experience. I always go for the chopped pork sandwich. Great video! God Bless!
It’s another great spot for some NC BBQ. John you really get around. You’ve been to so many places.
looks soooo good! our fav bbq place (since are are limited to northern va) is Mission BBQ. have you heard of or tired them out? they have several of them from fredericsburg (va) - winchester (va) up to the md area. if you have not tried them, please give them a try some time. they are police and military friendly as in they have patches and pics all over the restaurants with GOOD American music playing, not rap and garbage like that. (like so many restaurants have no days).. my fav thing there is their “yard bird” which is a 1/2 chicken that will melt in your mouth.
We have tried Mission BBQ on numerous occasions. We love that it supports our troops and police. The bbq is also tasty. We have not done a video from there yet. There is actually a Mission BBQ in Lynchburg, VA. I will have to try the yard bird!
I knew David could be n the clean plate club love me some good BBQ ❤
Yes, he definitely makes the clean plate club quite often. When he doesn't, you know it's a massive amount of food. lol
I checked their menu and did not notice Brunswick Stew. That surprised me since it's such a staple of Carolina BBQ.
You are right, lots of the bbq restaurants in NC do have Brunswick Stew on the menu. David always likes to try it, since he makes it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@vafunseekers Any chance you'll do a video on BBQ from Lockhart, TX?
Hi Guys, are you in Lexington now? I was wondering about the weather. We are in a snowstorm!
Cheerwine 🤔 I have never heard of that. Is it sold in grocery stores around there?
No we are back home in Virginia. How much snow are you getting? We didn't get any snow from the storm yesterday but we did get a good amount of rain from it. You can buy Cheerwine in the grocery stores in that area. I have found it before around us. As a matter of fact I bought a 2 liter and brought home while we were in Lexington. Did you get the email we sent you? We emailed you after we were here in Lexington. If you didn't get it let us know. Hope you are doing well and stay safe in the snow storm. Happy New Year!!
@@vafunseekers I didn't receive an email? Did we exchange email addresses if so, I forgot lol and I apologize.
@@seaglass1111 I apologize. Cindy didn't email you but she sent you a message from a previous comment you made asking you to email us. Our email is vafunseekers@gmail.com We have something to send you. Thanks so much. I will check our email later. Have a great evening.
Ah ok, I didn't get the message. I am so sorry. Often UA-cam doesn't notify me of the comment section. I hope I haven't missed anything else!
I will email in just a little while 🙂
Now i want some barbecue 😂 it looked good
I know what you mean! We begin to want bbq when we put our bbq videos together and/or watch them.
Lexington style bbq, yes! We live about 20 minutes from there. We have eaten there a few times but we usually go to our favorite bbq place in Lexington called SPEEDY'S BBQ. They aren't far from each other. Now yall have made us want bbq this coming week!
If yall get back to Lexington this year, let us know and maybe my wife and I can meet up with yall and try SPEEDY'S?
I didn't realize you were so close to Lexington. We definitely can make plans to go back to Lexington to try Speedy's BBQ. Would love to meet you both. We will let you know when we think we will be in the area. Hope you get some BBQ this week
Y'all should come to Louisburg N.C to Johnny's BBQ it is the best I think. Enjoying your video's thanks
We just checked out the website. Really liked the looks of the menu. When we looked on the map to see where Louisburg is located we saw that it was near Wake Forest. We are thinking we are about 2 hours and 15 minutes from here. Definitely doable! We will put in on our list of places to try out. Thanks for watching and commenting! Stay tuned for more bbq places!
Cooked a Boston butt in slow cooker yesterday 9 pounds worth. Lots of leftovers. I don’t make sandwiches unless I make my own … went keto 2 1/2 yrs ago. Appreciate the review -:)
Awesome! I'm sure your bbq was good. So you have made keto a way of life if you have been on it 2 1/2 years. Thanks for watching and commenting.
North Carolina is divided between BBQ. East of Raleigh is called "eastern style" and usually whole hog. West of Raleigh is called Western style or some called Lexington style. Western NC uses pork shoulders or boston butts. They even call the middle of the state "piedmont" style as well and Lexington would fall into that category and western is more of the mountains. It is funny, people argue over BBQ and Basketball down here.
Thanks for all the information. Whenever I would refer to NC BBQ, I was always talking about the Eastern Style (or at least that is what I thought lol). I have read quite a bit online about the different styles of bbq in NC and it is very interesting. I have also witnessed people from NC debating over the different styles of bbq. I actually like them both. I know that NC takes bbq very serious. A lot of places in Virginia have a sweeter tasting bbq. I know you are a bbq expert, but I'm more of I know what I like when I try it.
We have had lots of feedback on our bbq reviews. We have a list of different places we want to try. We also have received suggestions from subscribers on places to go. So hopefully you will be seeing more reviews from bbq places in NC. Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it!

Cheerwine is the best , where i live its hard to find but once I'm in NC there's no limit . Larry
Cheerwine is plentiful in North Carolina. I try to get a case or some 2 liters when I'm in NC. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Lexington is near me. They have a godfathers pizza too. 🍕
Nice. I have never had godfathers pizza. It must be good if you mentioned it. The pizza on their website looked delicious.
@@vafunseekers it is, reminds me of bills pizza. Only a couple godfathers pizza around.

I've eaten there about five times , Lexington BBQ has been around forever great food ....... Stamey's BBQ in Greensboro , NC another good one .
Glad to hear that! Stamey's BBQ is on our list to try too! Looking forward to trying it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hush puppies are frozen store bought 😮
Maybe so, but they had a good taste and they were not overcooked. I didn't ask them about if the hushpuppies were made in house or not. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ate there one time…pitiful! Tasted like boiled pork and was swimming in some kind of liquid. I ate the fries and hush puppies and most of the meat went in the trash. Y’all may like it but certainly not for me.
Sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience here. Where is your favorite place to get bbq at in NC? We enjoy trying different bbq places.
