    Lifetime bama fan here: You nailed it on ALL counts. It was worth it not to bench Milroe, because you couldn't afford to lose the locker room. The Deboer era doesn't truly start until next year. Looking forward to what he does next season. If 9-4 is our worst in the Post-Saban era, that's a pretty easy pill to swallow. • @sw120
      @sw120 5 днів тому

      At the college level you can get away with the game managers that will be 7th round picks and just have a whole lot of starts under their belt. But in the pros it's a different story. The game managers end up holding their team hostage, that's why you need to draft the guys that are physically gifted cause those guys have the most potential, someone's gonna take Milroe pretty high this draft

    • @dariuswilliams3206
      @dariuswilliams3206 4 дні тому

      @@sw120but the physical gifts are usually in the arm and it seems like the more football Milroe plays, the less accurate he gets. Even Lamar and Hurts improved in that department throughout their college careers.

    • @sw120
      @sw120 3 дні тому

      @@dariuswilliams3206 physical gifts can be with athleticism too. Drafting Milroe legitimately might make that team a top 5 rushing offense. Mobile QBs can do so much for an offenses run game if you feature them, the Ravens went from the worst to the best rushing offense once they went from Flacco to Lamar. Also by system QB I moreso mean someone that can go off script (before or after the play), like I don't think Joe Burrow has a super strong arm and he definitely isn't the most mobile guy but he can carry a load on offense cause he can improvise and make broken plays work. I think Milroe can definitely do that. The safe system QBs with "high floors" like Josh Rosen or Mac Jones just don't work anymore, they restrict offenses more than they can elevate them. I'd rather swing and miss on Milroe than get stuck in the purgatory of "he's good enough to start but not good enough to lead my team to the playoffs" with Ewers

      @@sw120 that…that is not Milroe. The best you’ve seen of Milroe are on design plays worked to perfection. RARELY have I seen Milroe make something out of nothing. Most of his rushing yards are off designed QB runs where he doesn’t get touched. He has terrible pocket presence, doesn’t come off his first reads, and takes horrible sacks. Last year Milroe seemed to have the magical deep ball. He almost couldn’t miss on deep throws but this year he seemed to lose it as the season went on which made him one dimensional and easy to game plan against. I think next season bama will return to better QB play. Ty can still run it but I think we will have more of the field open to us with him. He can make all the throws but still beat you with his legs or with the RBs.

    The biggest issue was the lack of competent passing. So many times this season Alabama had WR’s wide open and Jalen didn’t see them for some reason or throws a bad pass in their general direction, or even better, he will look at his first target is covered and immediately try to scramble into a sack. Jalen had only 2,800 passing yards. I don’t think it matters who the QB is next year, those passing numbers will be better regardless.

    The C+ is considering you think the roster may have been overrated? So if it wasn’t overrated is that more like a D or F? We know Kendrick Law is better than what we saw on the field last year. You mentioned Jam and Haynes not making an impact. The roster rating piece is a difficult argument when you know some key pieces of the offense weren’t utilized who could take some pressure off Milroe.

      Nothing about the offense was going to look different with Milroe at QB against any team with a decent to above average run defense. Bama had WRs running wide open more often than not & the QB simply couldn’t get the ball to them. Minus 1-2 games early on - no one respected Bama’s passing game which resulted in them committing to stopping the run (the LSU game was a complete anomaly). JM’s inability to read a defense affected this year’s offense more than we’ll ever know! Many plays were called that weren’t successful due to very sub-par QB play. Our RB’s didn’t come to Bama to play fullback for the QB.. RTR! I wish JM the best of luck with everything in life - but have zero issues stating I’m glad he’s not the QB at Bama any longer!

    I agree that the Oklahoma game was the worst this season. Showing no pride against Michigan is just about as bad. We had two late 4th quarter possessions against Tennessee to take back the lead and win and the Alabama offense/Jalen Milroe went 3 and out both times. Vanderbilt was an improved team and we took them lightly. We lost six good wide receivers to the transfer portal and our best running back. All season long it was difficult to tell if it was Nick Sheridan's playcalling or Jalen Milroe's execution that was screwing us up. After thinking about it for a while it's clear that it was a little of Column A and a little of Column B. Milroe was clearly incapable of successfully running certain aspects of the offense, pigeon-holing Nick Sheridan's playcalling options. But also, Nick Sheridan's playcalling was pretty elementary and predictable at times, hamstringing Jalen's options as a quarterback. There's also something to be said about not having "your guys" in the system yet, but Nick Sheridan and Jalen Milroe were in WAY over their heads a lot of the time this season, and seasoned defensive coaches began feasting on that inexperience.

    • @cameronferguson6725
      @cameronferguson6725 6 днів тому

      The playcalling was elementary and predictable, because there's not a lot of the room for creativity in the limited shell of an offense they had to create for Milroe. Its difficult to get overly creative when you have a one trick pony at QB. I think DeBoer said they only installed about 30% of their offense. There's also the fact that receivers were running wide open down the field multiple times in every game, but Milroe either didn't see them, or refused to throw to them. When that sort of thing is happening over and over, it's hard to fault the playcalling. If Milroe makes the right decision, Sheridan looks like a genius, and it's a different conversation.

    • @jslane41
      @jslane41 6 днів тому

      Oh, absolutely! But there were clear cases of poor ideas being forced during inopportune moments, such as every time we tried to go fast and hurry up. It failed every single time, with *maybe* 2 exceptions. That's on the coaches. There were also several examples of trying to force a square peg through a round hole by getting extra cute on play designs that had zero setup beforehand. It was like Nick was a kid with a new toy, and he wanted to play with it in church. Not the time, nor the place. But you're spot-on with your assessment of Milroe's lack of awareness in the passing game.

    • @cameronferguson6725
      @cameronferguson6725 5 днів тому

      @jslane41 I think the no huddle issues are probably on Milroe too, at least somewhat. He has zero ability to do anything presnap, and that can certainly slow down your hurryup offense. But maybe you're right and we shouldn't have bothered. Idk. I don't remember if this was a problem with Tommy Rees. I tell myself that if we knew what the coaches know about this whole situation, then everything would make sense. Next year will be interesting, and we will learn a lot.

    Milroe: phenomenal athlete, not the best game manager. RBs: underutilized for their talent level; could have made a huge difference over the course of the season. WRs: great when Milroe was in his rhythm, but when he wasn't, they were useless. OC: at times solid play-calling, but relied far too heavily on Milroe, forcing him into situations like we saw with Vandy/Oklahoma (how do you do a few designed QB runs, see it doesn't work because they're spying Milroe, and continue calling them????). It felt like DeBoer didn't have control of his team. Hopefully we'll see a different team and attitude in the spring and fall.

    The Georgia and LSU wins are the only things showing DeBoer's "potential" and can allow for the "rebuilding year" excuse. But the standard is being top 4 in the country, winning the SEC, playing for a National Championship etc. Not going 9-4, losing a holiday bowl game. n my view, this was his mulligan, and he gets a 2nd chance in 2025, but if he doesn't win hardware, there should not be a 3rd chance.

      What did everybody expect Deboer to do? Milroe had a cult following that would lay down if he didn’t play and it was proven against S. Florida Sabans last year, and further cemented when they held their player only meeting then came out and said “Milroe is our guy no ifs, ands, or buts about it”. Deboer had no choice but to start Milroe if he wanted any chance at winning and keeping the team together. Had Milroe been benched, half the offensive line would’ve just quit and made what they looked like all season look 100 times worse. I think Deboer knew he had to start the guy knowing bc of him they’d lose some but they’d definitely lose if he didn’t start because of the stated reason. Now that Milroe and his “lank” crew is finally getting out of Tuscaloosa, Deboer can play who needs to play that best fits his scheme. If that’s Ty Simpson that’s who it is. If it’s Austin Mac or Keelon Russell, that’s who it is. Now year 2 he has no choice but to play the best player. No more player led team. If he has to hurt Ty Simpsons feelings because he’s not as good as the other 2 he has to do what he has to do. If he fails to do so it’ll be another down year and I’m not too sure Bama fans will put up with it

    If that really was a "we'll try it your way" kind of season so that he can point back to it for a future team like you theorize that puts even more pressure on Debore because now if he doesn't really show out and greatly overachieve (considering the over/under win total for next season is 9.5) and win a minimum 11 games, then to point back and say that would be an embarassing way to admit that you're not the man for the job. That said, i like Debore, i think his offensive prowess was overhyped and proped up by Grubb but we'll leave that for another time, but he is a solid 9 or 10 win coach who can give a great speech.

    I’m absolutely loving watching Bama fans lose their shit. They have been spoiled with the GOAT for so long that they really believe God actually owes them wins. Like they really think they’re suppose to win ALL their games by 50 points. If they don’t then they think that means they suck. Man imagine being that full of yourself.
    Sabans success was a once in a generation one. It’s not normal. In the world of football normalcy, losses happen. 3 or 4 losses a season happens. Ugly wins happen. Close wins happen. It’s part of sports. That doesn’t mean you suck. It just means you had a close game or a ugly win.
    Football success is like any drug. Taking someone off of that drug can have devastating consequences and side effects. And as we see with Bama fans, those consequences and side effect have been very bad lol.
    I said at the start of the year Bama fans wouldn’t be able to handle 9-3 or 8-4. Literally every coach Bama has from now til the end of time will be held to sabans standards. And when he fails to meet them after a year, fans will want him gone. Kalen won’t see a 3rd year at Bama. Book it. The fans are too entitled and spoiled.

One correction I have is that it wasn't bad QB play that lost the Vandy game. Milroe did make two turnovers including a pick-six, but Alabama still put up 35 points in only about 17 minutes of time on the field. It was the defense still trying to learn the 4-2-5 combined with Vandy's option offense that stayed on the field for nearly three quarters that was the difference in that one.

    Such actions cannot remain a secrete, we'll heard about it one day.
