Well, things didn't go exactly as we hoped, not a huge surprise since we are doing this just about the hardest way possible, during the worst time of year haha... There will be a part three when we actually make a propane forge for this and do it the easy way. Our method of building a brick structure on the beach and burning charcoal just isn't getting hot enough, and it is way too much work(lots of fun though). Even if it did fully melt, we probably wouldn't have had enough vanadium in the steel to form the carbides required for the wootz damascus pattern. We learned and are determined to create useable material. I personally would have loved to be able to make something from steel that had the story of being made on the beach, and it would really make it cooler, but we cant make any knives if we can't make the steel. Onwards and upwards! - Навчання та стиль
Keep trying, guys! Failure is just learning in disguise. 👍
10/10 intro I laughed way more than I probably should’ve at “you wanna steal some stuff?” Hopefully the power of propane and propane accessories can help you guys succeed on the next try
Haha there is nothing that cannot be achieved with bad humor and propane and propane accessories
Well done guys, better luck next time so keen to see your next firing 🔥 👍
Thanks
wow great job guys 😏
Whoever those guys are, they are really cool
Great work guys. Looking forward to part 3
Thanks bro!
Good job bro
Thanks!
the melting point of vanadium is 1920 degrees Celsius. how much is in the fire? and as far as I know, the crucible should cool slowly. 😊
Right on!! Keep at it!!🔥⚒💪🏻
Next time it’s gonna work…
@@LiamJPenn if you can source some graphite chips or use graphite from old starter motors I highly recommend it. Graphite powder tends to float into the slag. I used graphite powder in the first couple charges I did. I had them all analyzed and every sample came back low in C% content. Even though I calculated for 1.5% those samples came out to 1.1-1.2%. Honestly sorel metal is the way to go for a carburizer but very hard to source. Also I highly recommend Salamander super crucibles if you’re not already using them. My ingots came out way better in those crucibles and I was open melting. Hope that helps.
@@HeavyForge thanks! I’ll see what I can find
