I personally found that to be not very useable- it doesn’t automatically use your movie settings (whereas if you switch via drive mode it does) so it didn’t really save time. Mostly I found it was using much too fast SS. Maybe it’s user error though- is there a way to workaround that?
Your videos are awesome man! Very informative and also inspiring at the same time! You have positive and negatives layed out nicely, and your negatives are presented fairly! I'd love to see a walkthrough and in depth test of the different auto focus modes for video. Few other cool topics that I don't see, specific to x100vi are - 10 bit 4:2:2 versus 4:2:0 - data level setting video vs full range - mic settings low cut filter & wind filter on vs off Just some ideas 💡 maybe they're not as popular topics but I can't seem to find anyone diving deep or at least giving their experiences on them. Your opinion would be great too, I think youd know what you're talking about for sure! Your last vide test with the x100vi at night was incredible! Well, cya!
Good video, I wish I knew 10bit was a pain to view and edit before hand. Coming from Sony I was surprised how bad the menu was on x100vi still it’s a great camera and I guess it adds to the character :)
Nice video centric review. On the X100vi, I have mapped video drive to the Fn2 button as the video trigger, hit it to start video and again to stop it.
@@MichaelYoungKim that's correct. I just press the Fn2 button with my second finger and recording starts, then press it again to stop recording. I find it easier and quicker than going via the driven button menu.
@@station-7 Hi, that may be true and thanks for point this out. As a photographer who seldom uses videos and as a video novice, it is fine for me. I am sure that if one wanted a more sophisticated approach then diving into the menus would deliver better results (may be I should explore/learn/use).
I was interested in this camera, but after a bit of research I found quite a few gotchas that stopped me from getting one: Outdated lens with loud/slow focusing (audible if recording video), cannot resolve 40MP wide open, 35mm f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, a bit tight indoors, limited background separation in full body or even portrait, lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, noisy sensor, no flip screen, poor battery life so you have to buy/bring spares (and potentially remove the tripod plate to swap each time), not great for videography (massive crop in 4k60 or 6.2k, awful rolling shutter, no 3.5mm mic input, ports block grip, drop in dynamic range in higher resolutions), subpar autofocus (improved but far from Sony/Canon), slow performance with film simulations, low resolution hybrid evf, no lens hood / ability to add filters / weather sealing / grip without additional costs, etc, etc. It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :) - I had an X-T3 and X-S20 which I loved, but since trying Sony full frame, there's no going back, the jump in quality, usability, convenience is immense.

It’s only auto record though. You don’t have much manual control shooting like that.

The lens was updated not too long ago but still not good enough. I totally agree with your point for sure!
