Chris Packham explores the anatomy and physiology of the largest land animal on the planet - the elephant. Their size seems ill-suited to surviving the most arid regions of Africa, but their inner workings allow them to defy the extreme heat of the desert and find food and water in seemingly barren landscapes, while their extraordinary memory enables them to repel predators.
Chris reveals how hairs on the skin help keep elephants cool, how sensors in their feet may be able to guide them towards rain and how a unique pouch in their mouths stores water.

HOLY MOLY I didn't know half these cool things about elephants. I knew they were strong but damn!! New teeth, great and powerful nose not to mention their memory and intelligence and their seismic sensors wow!!

Are any big orgs thinking of investing in very large habitable spaces for elephants in the face of climate change? Elephants are so emotionally intelligent, so anatomically interesting, and their species need to be protected in the coming decades/centuries.
why is the diagrams for the elephants teeth in the wrong place? imagine a elephant's jaws being so gigantic and so awkwardly close to its chest like they did with there diagram

Why both gender of Asian elephant don't have tusk? Is it secondary sexual character or something else?
Its evolution. Elephants are growing smaller and smaller tusks now, to a point that its almost absent in newer born now. It’s in an attempt to adapt around to the excessive hunting that has been done for their tusks! Even though, having tusks is VITAL to their existence & being, BUT surviving is equally important. This is not the 1st time animals have begun adapted themselves to fit to the environment better.
