This is one of the most demonstrative and instructive videos for using room mics on a drum set I've ever seen. Concise, no explanations, no fluff. Thanks for creating this.
Sounds incredible on all positions, but the 2 meter and 6 meter room mic sound is amazing! I'd love to here close mics and overheads with the R88 as a room mic. Awesome man!
This helps, even though I have had the mic for years, am a drummer, to hear them back to back saves me time experimenting. Well done, thanks, and I have a Mel Lewis to boot!
Killer comparison! Beta 52 is still my favorite kick mic, but this video proves the SM57 is one everyone should have haha. I use the United FET47 and it’s a little less midrange-heavy than the warm one sounds. I do prefer a 47 style mic a little further away from the kick and with a resonant head. You get more length from the kick that way.
Thank you for sharing. This was fun!! I've been at this recording stuff for decades, with great success. But your video was refreshing , confirming that the player , the room , and a sweet mic like this is where its at. Very smart :)
Hello. Nice video. Do you remember if you recorded with the Hi-Z button engaged on the SSL VHD pres? I think it changes the impedance from 1.2 to 10K ohms... Thanks.
Wow, awesome vid! Love it! Love the Kit Close position as well as the 1m position. Also as a overhead, this mic is great! Nice playing, nice comparison, thank you!
thank you very much. Very room sound awesome, (and you play great too) however, i find that on the 2 OH position, the snare is a bit off centerd (Right side) the mic is also, I wonder why ? When you raise close mics potentialy you could have some stereo imaging issues. By the way, it is not the purpose of the video
You can try two cheaper ribbon mics and buy a stereo bar for blumlein purposes. It's difficult to get a perfect blumblein but if you put some time in it you'll get nice results. Good luck!
Kit close is so good. Insane. I'm going to try that.

That settles it, 3 or 4 of these is all you need.
And late 60s early 70s Sonor shells rule.
Very nice indeed, thx🙌🏽

One of the greatest drum videos I have seen. In a lifetime struggle for good sounds, you have gone pretty far.
Thanks!
Great mic., and a demo, thank you.
Best mic placement video on UA-cam.

Thank you! My pleasure
2 years too late but wow, fantastic tone(s)
Never too late for a compliment. Thank you!
Really killer sounding room.
Thank you

Great value video! Thank you very very much! :-)

Thanks for this demo. I was wondering if they added more brightness to the MK2 version. What frequency did you boost at? Also what preamp did you use?
There is no EQ or compression on the tracks. Just clean performance. I used the SSL Alpha pre’s
Thank you
That kick at 2M - FuuuuuuK
This sounds so dope! Were you only using this one mic for the video?
Yes i did! Only the r88.
@@RubenvanderVeldeDRUM Honestly it sounds like you had drum mics on. So good!
Very nice
1 meter seems the perfect deal for me, breathe, but not too much. Do you know a cheap version of this mic ?

Damn I love it close !! Too bad we hear it the kick too much
This is great! Been meaning to do thing like this myself.
