  • This is the first in our Bidding Strategies Guide series. And it’s not like any other guide you’ve seen before! In this guide, John doesn’t only help you choose the best bidding strategy for your campaign. He also breaks the misconceptions on how Google uses the bidding strategies and why they don’t always work.
    First in our series is about what bidding strategies are and how it works. Then, John dives into the first bidding strategy on the list, which is also one of our underutilized bidding strategies, Maximize Clicks.
    Google Ads defines Maximize Clicks as the simplest way to bid for clicks-you set a budget, and Google Ads does the rest.
    But like anything that Google says, don’t trust its definition and let it “do the rest.” There are things you have to consider and ensure before you use this bidding strategy. Learn what they are and more:

    You talk about how when using maximize clicks you 80%-90% of the time should have longer-tail/high-intent keywords. What about in Google Shopping campaigns where you don't get to choose your keywords? I assume you need a well though-out or proven negative keywords list for this strategy? Thanks for all the great information you guys put out on daily basis!

    Great video John. You mention a few times about having high search volume and for most of my campaigns I have low volume. Is there a better bid strategy I can use for low-volume keywords?

    Then maximize clicks would be good for our brand campaign, as less people should be bidding on our brand name?

    Hello. This information is really helpful. Just one question. When using manual CPC, how do you determine what the cost/ click should be if the account does not have any conversion data (conversion rate)? Do you use maximize clicks until you have enough data?

      Hi. You could show the column for first page bid estimate, and then use those numbers to figure out the cpc

    About Auction Insights - the results show 1 - 2 competitors, though when I manually search keywords there are a lot more and they usually have top positions on every page, sometimes they have top and bottom. There might be 6-10 actual competitors. Why does Google only show me 1-2 of them in Auction Insights? You can even see Impression Share is

    Hey! So this would be appropriate for local service businesses as long as the Keywords are more BOF?
    I wasn’t sure if I should start here or with Max Conversions for a new account for a roofing company.

      Max clicks 100%. you need conversion data for max conversions or any of the other smart bidding strategies, so for a brand new account max clicks
