So, to me, the beauty in OKC as an album (apart from the music, of course) is that it's a concept album; the narrative of it---of the other, the android, the computer trapped in our modern world, of humanity, just trying to get okay; for me there's a clear story to this album, in the lyrics, that really resonates:
Airbag - A man survives a car crash, an airbag saves his life; he sees the world anew, born again. feels like an interstellar hero, feels like he could save the universe, can accomplish anything
Paranoid Android - This new perspective is shattered by the noise, by people, caught in the grinding combine of society, that cares about things of no consequence at all; feeling like an android, an outsider, someone that only appears human, but is different inside, paranoid---like he's the problem and is being unreasonable. Calling down to the aliens above to reign down some peace again, desperate, to no avail
Subterranean Homesick Alien - New perspective is gone; the possibilities, the senses, are drained from the world. Looking up to the aliens, and their detachment and amusement, their distance, wishing the airbag hadn't robbed him of the opportunity to be apart from it all, with all this uptight people; becoming uptight himself, strung out, the tension.
Exit Music (For a Film) - The desire to run away; to escape the post-apocalyptic cold of the world; the peril of it all, the danger of being caught; with one other person, together we can do this; we hope you choke with your rules and supposed wisdom, we don't need you.
Let Down - But you can't escape the world, can't escape people, even your partner is part of the system; it all just lets you down in the end; no escape except metamorphosis into a something else completely; all you get is crushed; the world is too powerful and overwhelming.
Karma Police - Back to square one; he's stuck with these people, these horrible, insincere, phony people that think they're cool and different, but are just the results of society; wishing for the Karma Police to take them all away, to get what they deserve---ironic because police are emblematic of society's control and authority over us; a fleeting desire---I lost myself; it's not you, it's me, I'm the problem, I'm delusional.
Fitter, Happier - Society brainwashing him; propaganda; robotic voice: these are all the things you should be worrying about instead, forget everything else; take the soma; be a productive member of society; pragmatism, not idealism; just a pig being fed shit; in a cage with nowhere to go, no escape; on antibiotics to keep you healthy and docile, keep you (literally) buying into society.
Electioneering - The rage, bubbling up; rage at the politicians that made the world this way, that keep the world this way for their own benefit, not the people they're supposed to be a benefit for; dragging him back with every forward step, a step away, he takes; a stranglehold on society: police and black magic.
Climbing Up the Walls - Breaking point, boiling over; trapped in the walls of society, of his mind; a pig in a cage, a cornered animal; the fear; the rage; the resentment, the frustration, the anger; raging at the machine; the depression cooing in your ear from inside your own skull; no escape.
No Surprises - Being an upstanding, monochromatic member of society; fifteen blows and all is shiny and happy; dazed bells; drink the kool-aid, inhale the stupefying, strangling carbon monoxide that slowly kills you; ignore the alarms, no surprises, don't mind me... pretending: get me out of here!
Lucky - It's working: the mask, the human facade, he's pretending and society is rewarding him; he's on a roll; the president wants to talk to him; but it doesn't feel good, like crashing an airplane or walking into the lake; he's fitting in, but it feels like dying, its killing him there's a line, cross it and abandon yourself, don't look back; he's standing on the edge of a cliff.
The Tourist - the rage and fear is still there, the android still short-circuits from time to time, but it's hidden, buried; and that's okay; don't let it get to you; slow down; just be a tourist, popping in and out of society, taking pictures and enjoying food, seeing the sights, detached; don't let it work you up too much; slow down and enjoy what you can; you may be an idiot, but there IS joy to be found; that doesn't mean you have to accept it or society; all that rage just hurts you; it's not giving up---just be a tourist; the recurring cycle: going too fast, the need to slow down, crashing, and the cycle continues...

Let Down is my favorite track on this album lol. There is a beautiful dichotomy between the uplifting arpeggios and Thom’s angelic yet monotone singing about disappointment and detachment. All this while Jonny Greenwood is playing guitar in a different time signature- masterpiece.

For me it is the beatles, floyd, radiohead and maybe zepplin that are the peak of what a band could be (Ik there plenty more). Radiohead treats music as a sacrid product of the heart never giving in for money or ideology and always delivering the best they can for the people. Its a shame they weren't pushed heavy on the radio in there prime, partially because they don't like the music industry but ya this is peak music imo.

@@TheSunSpot Wait until you hear Kid A it's on a whole different wave length i wouldn't even call it a rock album. It actually pissed me off so much I gave them 1 more chance and bought the next album (Amnesaic) and didn't realize it was the leftover tracks from Kid A that didn't fit on the album. After that also pissed me off I boycotted them for years until I heard something great and iv'e been singing their praises ever since. People like to compare them to other bands a lot like Pink Floyd but the only band they truly remind me of is the Beatles in that they never made the same record twice and their sound changed a lot from record to record. There really are a lot of good reasons why they are one of the most critically acclaimed bands of all time and they're pretty fearless.

Great on the spot break down! You got a lot of big points. You're also on point comparing the music to Cinematic vibes. Radiohead has 8 ither Albums, and between all of them, I am not precise here, but I'd say their songs have shown up at least 15-20 times at major points in plots, a..nd another 30 or 40 euther in background, short snippets, or even covered. They have 3 guitars including Thom the singer who plays rhytm, the lead guitar, then the 3rd guitar player can just focus on creating spacey or unique backgrounds. The lead guitarist Jonny Greenwod also composes orchestral music scores for maybe a dozen movies so far with 2 Academy Award Nominations, so the band is so stacked with talent, they do have a sound that is all their own, you won't find many like it. Thanks for the trip through my favorite Album! Peace/

I can definitely see the similarities with Black Mirror (I assumed you meant that and not Dark Mirror). Both are dark but playful. Uncomfortable. Themes of isolation, a future of overreliance on technology, corruption in politics.

And no, it's not far fetched and something very different from what they talk about. Ironically the most interesting thing to me about the simulation theory is that it's a huge, earth shattering discovery that ultimately might not matter at all, which is rare.
Obviously it depends on how close to the matrix we are speaking about, like if our real bodies are somewhere and we could wake up, that's different. But in a scenario where we are entirely simulated conscious beings, then the difference between a "real" world and our simulated world is close to nothing. That simulated world is as real as we are.
