I remember when I became a nerdfighter by that title, and my mother expressed concern. "Who is this John Green character, and what is this weird cult you're following these days?"
And I tried to explain to her that we're all about spreading awesome and decreasing world suck, and she still seemed concerned. My story for the day.
LOL
i actually had a kinda similar experience (almost kinda). This girl I know from college, who thinks she is always right and always knows everything about everything, heard that I was a nerdfighter and she went on this looooong rant about how the green brothers were essentially creepy cult leaders who brainwash teenage girls and I was like "have you ever seen one of their videos?" and she said no. sigh.
What if they are tho?
No Nerdfighterian Olympians? We play Quidditch! That's an Olympic sport! Right...right?
We should make Quidditch an official sport and include it in the Olympics.
I think you over-looked a problem mainly that we dont have flying wands
QurttoRco Detail.
QurttoRco Quidditch IS a thing! maybe not a qualified sport but they have Quidditch teams in a lot of English universities, Oxford being one of them :) we just use normal broomsticks instead of flying ones... we keep them clamped between our thighs lol
There are quidditch teams all over the world. USQ (unites states quidditch) and the IQA (international quidditch association) have teams everywhere
Not going to lie, cracked up at the Perry and O.W.C.A. reference.
YEEEEEESSSSS! Phineas and Ferb shout out! Trust those instincts, John. That is totally a secret agent.
He is only a secret agent if wearing a fedora, otherwise, just a critter.
This is the wrong video to watch while stuck in bed after spraining my ankle..... playing hand ball.
OMG
Also: "Oh, hello, Hank, it's Esther Day, and I'm casually walking on my treadmill desk while writing my next best-selling novel. Look, there's a muskrat. I can tell because I just happen to have these awesome binoculars handy in case of this very situation. DFTBA."
He Totally Remembered to be AWESOME today.
perry the platypus is outside johns window!
thats what i was gonna say
Nice Perry the Platypus reference
This is now my favorite Vlogbrothers video.
A significant amount of European Handball players are well into there 30s and some into their 40s, so yes John, it is possible!
it is called Science Olympiad
Honestly, I think it would be pretty cool to qualify for archery at the Olympics. As far as I can tell, the US has never had a female archer competing solo. But I may have overlooked something there, because that just doesn't seem right! But anyway, nerdy archers FTW.
Nedfighteria has changed our lives. Thank you John and Hank for bringing us so much joy. We love you both.
Yours always,
Nerdfighters everywhere
xx
Gymnastics has always been my favourite sport, the fact that Jenni's a nerdfighter made it even more awesome. I almost screamed at my office computer when she did the nerdfighter sign after her floor routine! This is SO awesome!=D
I made it a point to watch this video during the Opening Ceremonies, Sochi 2014.
haha during the olympics my HS band did the BAND OLYMPICS. yes, bandies rejoice! And no, the trumpets didnt win overall, but we did win the long tone contest!!!! lol
Jennifer Pinches is amazing! Thank you so much to her and all the GB gymnastics team for representing our country so well in the Team Final yesterday.
The fact that NBC didn't show Jennifer Pinches' floor routine was a CRIME! Watched it on the BBC website and she was just so happy and excited to be there, representing her country IN her country. It was beautiful to watch. And when she finished, watching her tell her coaches "I couldn't hear the music!" because everyone was cheering so loudly for her... priceless.
You don't have to be an Olympian. You can be a coach!
the semi-aquatic egg laying mammals of action
The line is actually justice... Thats sad i know that....
“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.”
Esther may you never die the final death.
It makes me smile to see you say "I love you" with so much more ease than previous attempts :)
Do he still use this desk ?
+Jerry1SK Probably not XD
Perry the platypus !!!!!
John. I am almost obsessively fascinated by your treadmill desk. I keep watching this video over and over. I also love hearing about the Olympics.
I was a gymnastics fan first and a Nerdfighter second, so to see you guys talking about Jenni Pinches makes me SO HAPPY YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW I LOVE YOU.
It could be a nutria
Love the poster in the background.
"Dude...
No Edge"
:)
Ahh I just figured out another reason I love vlogbrothers videos. You guys don't punctuate your sentences with "ums" "ers" and other nonsense fillers. That's a skill I have yet to master. So envious!
Also Jenny never forgets to be awesome.
You guys are amazing. DFTBA is now in my lexicon and I intend entirely to work it into everyone else's I know. LOVE!!
Me and my husband where watching the gymnastics team finals supporting team GB and we saw her make the hand gesture and we both shouted DFTBA at our tv, she infact did it twice. It was seriously awesome though, such a huge moment to feel the interconnoective power of nerdfightaria.
This is probably one of my most favorite vlogs in recent times.
HA! You sneaky man, you. I didn't even see that end coming! Loved your smile.
I think that it is amazing that this community has inspired in such a way that it has spread so wide. Nerdfighteria is everywhere and in everyone's hearts!
The quality of these office videos....so much YES!!!
An economics professor showed me your penny rant two years ago, and I've been watching ever since. man the vlogbros have changed since then
Wow. Last year about this time I became a Nerdfighter. It was just before Esterday 2011 that I found the vlogbrothers videos. Thanks for a great year and plenty more to come guys!
Such a wonderful vlog to watch on my birthday.. :) Thank you John, DFTBA!
haha I love how you just have an idea and then take it to the wildest extremes... fannagiling your way into the olympics by just barely qualifying is something i have pondered very recently. You just go on and on and on, and I love it. Even having a slogan for the movie they're going to make after your team. John, you are a beautiful person, and you remind me of myself, lol. DFTBA!!
I've found her routine on BBC iplayer, if you search for 'Olympics Women's Gymnastics' it's the final, and her routine's at about 1hr 13mins and if you hang on for a bit you'll see her do the nerdfighter sign :) Jenny, you're amazing for doing that in front of so many people (if you're reading this) :)
John, I'm so pleased that you recognized Japanese Dressage rider Hiroshi Hoketsu! As an minority in Equestrian sports, I'm proud to have a Asian figure who is regarded with such talent, even at his age.
I laughed so hard I fell off my chair at your comment...and then I realized you weren't kidding..... awk....... and then I kinda wanted to hit you...and cry...but then I laughed more and moved onto other comments...after laughing more..and then another comment brought me back.... thank-you for brightening my day... I didn't think anything would shock me into a laugh more than when at my firends house we went to get the mail and discovered her mail in a mailbox which was sitting IN her mailbox...
I love you for recognizing the root of this type of . . . troll-ery instead of attempting to argue against failed arguments and fanning the flames.
Happy Esther day, and have an imaginary tater tot.
This was a great video, John. :)
Welcome to Nerdfighteria, Olivia. I've been here at least five years and I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE
I KNOW RIGHT! when i figured that out i was like holy crap, vlogbrothers is my favorite youtube channel and i watch their videos basically everyday, and crashcourse is what got me my A and biology, plus it's just an interesting way to learn, and this guy wrote my favorite book too?! best day ever!
It was an intense few weeks that's for sure. Happy early birthday to you as well! As I spend the 28th in ridiculous excitement I will remember that its your birthday. 20 is pretty awesome, it's taken me all year to realize I am no longer a teen! DFTBA!
I did this a few years ago and it was a difficult feat then, and there weren't as many vids. Kudos to you my friend, happy early birthday, my 20th b-day is the 28th so I'll be thinking of you when I'm inevitably up past midnight that night. Best wishes and DFTBA!
You are absolutely spectacular. NERDFIGHTERS MAKE ME SO PROUD OF HUMANS.
I just realized that "URGAY!" is pig latin for "GUR!" John/Hank, your comment has now both intentionally and unintentionally made me smile, and for that, I thank you kindly. DFTBA.
Spent all morning watching handball (and wondering why I'd never seen this amazing sport) at work (which is ok because I work for an NBC station) and discussed starting a local team! John Green, I'll happily join your squad and get in mad ball throwing shape!
You always end your videos so perfectly:')
I still can't get over the fact that there's a nerdfighter in such a well-covered sport as gymnastics. so great.
No wait, it's been six years. AHHH time flies when you're having fun. :)
1. Ancient Olympics have an event on poetry. Since you are a novelist, I think you will qualify, John. All we have to do is to petition for poetry in Olympics.
2. Treadmills don't build muscles, it reduces fat. You have to strength build to have build on your muscles.
3. Also, you have to run on the treadmill to be fit enough for any sport. Good luck nerding out while running.
Also, it is quite refreshing to see you walk.
I knew Jennifer pinches was cool, I watched the gymnastics and her smile just stood out! Such a legend
i read the fault in our stars today in one sitting and now i can't smile at anything thanks john THANKS A LOT
"This Machine Kills Fascists"...on your laptop xD aha nice John! just Nice!
John, I've loved your videos for almost 2 years now. And I adore your personality and all your insightful videos. But one of the reasons I really watched your videos is because they were informal, and this video reminds me a whole lot of your Crash Course videos - the editing, your infliction, and just the overall appearance. I love your videos and always will - I'm just saying that you should keep your original style of making them because it was really nice. Thanks -- great video, anyway!
You are my hero. DFTBA!
How have I never heard of Jennifer Pinches?!!?!?! A British Olympic Nerdfighter in one of the only events I watched during the olympics!!! :o
You just called John Green "Bro."
I love this so much.
John, my goak is to notify everyone in the olympics about Nerdfighteria. Most importantly Michael Phelps cuz he's the best now. I have know idea how, but I'm going to do it!
This video fills me with lots of happiness.
We're everywhere! And OMG, you said 'I love you' to Hank on a non-Esther day!
Seriously, I completely started crying when John said "I love you".
John, you could definitely be a sports announcer at the Olympics! You already have so much experience with your Swoodilypooping and what not.
The ending! The ending was so good! D'awwww!!
When I clicked on this video, I must've clicked a suggestion. I clicked over to Twitter and when I clicked back to the tab I assumed had the video, I was watching a cat.
There for a moment I was a bit worried about the ergh...quality of video you had just made. I seriously watched the whole thing thinking you would pop up. I say the whole thing but probably only a minute out of it until the cat started talking about going on a date and I looked at who posted the video.
GREAT VIDEO THIS ONE IS.
I love how he has all so well planned :D
I saw her do that I got so excited! Go Jennifer!
Random but john, friggin love your books.. Just read ch 1 of the fault of our stars and im already inlove with it!
5 1/2 years later and John now likes to run. But will still probably never be an Olympian.
Don't get me wrong I absolutly love your videos, but I also loved how when you did them at your old office that it felt more real to me.
Whoa, I was not expecting the last 5 seconds of this video to be so adorable.
Holy shit. This is only like the 5th video I've watched of you, but I just flipped shit when I realized you were the author of the fault in our stars
Why do I cry every time someone mentions Esther day?! It's suppose to be a happy celebration of love!! waaaa!
i love you john!!!!
John would be a great sports announcer! With that enthusiasm, general coherence, and intelligence . . . =)
Gosh, John, you're such a good vlogger!
I hope people will someday compare my videos to yours, and the cool thing is some people already do!
Everyone should realized by now that the BMI is BS. But, for the first time ever I've actually been really excited about the Summer Olympics and have really enjoyed it! I found out about Jennifer Pinches being a nerdfighter just before this video and was also jumping up and down about it! DFTBA!
i'm so so so so so proud of Jennifer. that's amazing. I know that although she isn't team Canada, i'm cheering her on none the less!
Happy birthday!
I saw Jenny's DFTBA... there was a second one after her Vault ;) It made my day!
Can't wait for Esther day!!!
You have so much to learn.
Videos like this is why I'm subscribed :3
2 Hank songs and 2 Hank fitness videos in a row? Nice!!
daawe you guys are such good brothers >
Let's say you're completely correct about the greens. Even then, because they say something about a charity, and encourage donating to that charity, it helps a bit. I enjoy the charisma they display. even if it is all an act, it's an entertaining one, and I like watching it.
To me, the meaning of the Olympics isn't the sport. It is the fact that a planet like ours can still have a competition like this. People unite together from all around the world to watch sports. They met new people, and it is, in the end, a health, awesome competition.
Phineas and Ferb references are always exceptional. Maybe I should invest in a treadmill desk...
Definitely going to try the T-Shirt Design Contest.
John, I know you may not hear this often nor know exactly what it means, but you are dripping in swag juice. I think its the new desk.
Rest in awesome Esther
I'm going to tell my cousin that I love him on Esther Day. He is 12 days younger than me and he has been like my best friend/brother my whole life and I want him to know I appreciate him
It's called Dressage John. That 90 year old gentleman is a Dressage rider, and it is the most beautiful Olympic event in the whole games.
