Thank you for your first video about Vroom slides. We called Vroom last year and scheduled our 6 month out appointment for this July. Couple weeks before going they set us up with RV Specialist in San Diego for a July appointment. RV Specialist saw a significant problem with our Jayco Melbourne 24L. Little support for rollers rolling on plywood and small rollers in wrong position. They added 6 metal plates to roll on, new heavy duty rollers, and repositioned them bottom and top. The slide finally works! They did an excellent job, but it did cost $6,100. It was worth it. Again, thanks to All About RV's for your great helpful videos.
I am considering this upgrade for my GD 22MLE that has a 12ftx2ft slide with the stove, ref, and captain chairs. Currently have a broken slide shoe, so needs something. I am also in the San Diego area (Oceanside). I contacted RV Specialists in San Diego, and would love to hear about your experience and how you like the side now. Thanks
Excellent video and great fix. I had issues with the Schwintec in our previous coach. Lots of problems over 5 years. I wasn’t knowledgeable enough to change it out. Thanks again
Thanks Jared, excellent info. Hopefully, the manufacturers are paying attention to this video. There is no excuse for this type of mod being standard for slides, ESPECIALLY if they insist on using Schwintek systems in the primary slides of RVs. I really like the robust construction of the Vroom system.
Thanks . This is a great upgrade. Been deterred by schwintek slides that hold allot of weight for this reason. This may be the game changer for us and open op door to our next 5th wheel.
Josh the RV Nerd at Bishs RV just did a factory tour at the Montana 5th wheel factory and showed a bunch of the inside details as the 5th wheels are being built, on the factory floor. Step by step in the process. Definitely worth checking out. I am by no means sponsored by Bishs or Josh, I just like to pass on information to people. Loads of You Tubers who throw opinions out but few who show the facts backed by experience in a unbiased way, Josh is one of those. Just my 2 cents. 👍🏻
RV manufacturers have known for years that the Schwintek slide mechanism is not appropriate for larger slides. They opt for cheap, over and over again.
What’s interesting is your seeing more n more manufacturers put big slides on the schwintek, it’s like educate those buyers, stay away from big slides or heavy loaded slides on the schwintek. 🍻
My Schwintek broke on my Grand Design 2500 RL in about a year and a half. Grand Design and Lippert components would not help me at all. I had to pay about $2200 for a new Schwintek tech to be put on. Unfortunately I live outside of Chicago and was not driving to Arizona for the Vroom. I guess if people stop buying RVs that have large sides that have a Schwintek the manufacturers will have to change the way they do things.
Probably why they don’t put their name on the product… because it’s garbage! Our wardrobe slide failed after about 8 months! Honestly I wish Airstreams weren’t stupid expensive… I’d like to not worry about slides!
as a RV tech of 14 years that has replaced around 50 of these mechanisms thus far, i can vouch that the schwintek system is a very good system but the OEMs DO NOT use it properly specifically install, ive been to lippert and spent time with there people working with the system and its quality but the rv industry is too sloppy for the precision side of it, if the OEMs cant build a square slide box or cut the hole square(had many that are over an inch out of square in the corners) thats where the issues come from 90% of the time and the other 10 are usually lack of rollers which once again lippert instructs the OEMs on how often to put rollers
Hi Jared. Thanks for the Vroom and Schwintek videos. I have the 2022 version of the Reflection 28BH. Aside from issues with the Schwintek mechanism on the kitchen slide, the RV has been reliable. The slide box has the Norcold fridge and the dinette and is quite heavy. I had to remove my tool box and other storage from under the bench seats since it overloaded the slide, and it would frequently stall. This improved performance, but it still struggles and sounds like a dying hyena in pain. I'll be installing 1/8" stainless steel plates and another roller before this travel season. We're considering the Vroom upgrade if the improved support doesn't help, but that's several thousand dollars. Grand Design and Lippert need to wake-up and realize the negative effect that under-engineered components have on their customers.
Can you please give us an update on how the Vroom slide mechanisms have been working since you had them installed? We are seriously considering getting an appointment for 2024 to have our two opposing slides done. Thanks!!
Nice upgrade. I would be very concerned using those stainless steel plates on 28BH with the 12v fridge. I get a lot of slide floor deflection since the weight of the fridge is along the front edge of the slide, not towards the back like your fridge. It deflects enough that it would touch the main floor. So to make sure my slide floor does not hit and tear my main flooring, I use slide-out sleds.
I'm replacing a cable on mine next week. My own fault why I have to replace the cable, but live and learn. I've got the cable ordered, and it's supposed to be here Thursday next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 for that. Honestly if I buy a new RV I won't have one with the schwintek slide system.
Hi Jared. Looked through your Amazon list but couldn’t find the bottle jack with extensions. Just finished part 1 of the plan, bought the truck, part 2 the RV comes this fall. Am building my list of must have tools and accessories before hitting the road full time. Thanks for all the great tips and videos!
Aaaaah come on Tony, u know it’s just not GD, because as u know a lot of utubers fulltime in a GD, it’s the schwintek mechanism that’s inferior, just saw AZ expert deal with a class C with the ‘too heavy of a slide’ for this system. 🍻
@@SpykersB All of these UA-camr with their Grand Designs just doesn’t make that brand look good ! And still folks keep buying them. Yes I know the schwintek slides are a big problem and we have three of them on our Riverstone 42fskg they have been operating fine after a year and a half 71 campgrounds. Ours don’t dig into the bottom like those do because the material is higher grade than what Grand Design uses.
What physically holds slide outs ( from all rv manufacturers) from dropping or bending down. Typically when something is cantilevered out you have supports underneath connected to a fixed support. The schwintek system has no load carrying capabilities. It just moves the box in and out. What supports the box when extended out?
Good question and that is why there is a bit of a belly under the floor of the slide. All the weight is on the rollers that these plates sit on. The gears top and bottom and the walls are what I see give it sheer for strength. It then also presses the frame of the slide on the wall of the RV. It’s surprising there’s not more there to make it hold out there in that position.
I had a Geo Pro 16BH. The entire kitchen was in the slide, including the fridge. I bought it used and the previous owner hid the issues the Schwintek slide issue by repeatedly telling me the rig had to be 100% level before using the slide. He also had the slide deployed when I went to look at it, and had it retracted when I went to pick up the rig when I bought it. He again rambled about the leveling the rig 100% again. I was dumb by not operating the slide when I looked at it or picked it up. Had I done so, I'd have discovered the issue. I immediately started having issues with the slide. It NEVER operated correctly unless I used it in the morning when the temps were cool. In the heat of a summer day, it jammed up on one side every time. The previous owner never fixed the issue under warranty, so I was left with fixing it at high cost - the dealer wanted $2700+ to fix it. There was no way I was willing to spend that much money on the rig. I've never heard of the VROOM slide system before.
Not sure why on the stainless steel they have a rolled edge on the inside of the plate. I understand the outside edge but not the inside. If it was flat it would slide in and out and not have to worry about damaging the floor.
Yes I thought about cutting off the inner bend but it did help a bit with the deflection on the floor of the slide. It still has a bit of a belly in the middle but it did help a little.
When we did it it cost us just under $3,000 and we did not swap out the controllers and wires. I’ve heard it has gone up since then and they do offer more options. There are also other locations other than Az to have it installed too now.
How does the rack and pinion stay lined up? I have 7 to put in on my Class A that has bunks dinette and a full sized residential refrigerator in it. It's just over 18 feet long. The middle 3 under the fridge are starting to wear out the underside.
Just a note, the HDPE plate will flex as it moves over the roller, putting similar stress on the underside skin of the slide as if it wasn't there, continuing to weaken the skin where the steel plate will distribute the stress over a wide area causing no stress to the underside. I'd agree with using 1/8" aluminum plate as a superior alternative to HDPE.
Jared, you haven’t really said which of the two (hdpf or the stainless steel) slide roller plate) was better … or the most reasonable fix. So which is it?
I have an RV (5th wheel) with a schwintek slide out in the bedroom (small dresser and wardrobe). The floor has just started to show signs of water damage and is also getting damaged by the rollers. I order some NO SAG caulking,to try and stop the water damage, and some HDPE to protect it from the rollers. The issue I'm having is I don't think the rollers are adjustable (height wise) and so don't know how to install the HDPE. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
It really is annoying how many factories keep putting the schwintek slide mechanisms on giant heavy slides. Even if lippert states that they'll work for those size of slides which I doubt they do it's well known by now that they don't. They work just fine on small slides but big slides are pretty much guaranteed to have problems eventually.
It was a great experience, we did it before the price went up a bit so the price is off from what it is now but they also install in more places too.ua-cam.com/video/bTH3kIByLYM/v-deo.html
Purchase a used unit which has a Lippert rack and pinion slide system. I'll try to keep this short and to the point. Had major issues with water before I bought the trailer. Took it to a dealer and had it repaired with the replacement of the floor, replaced one end wall, and repaired the other end wall. Multiple times back and it still doesn't slide well. Saw your post and the repair that you made. Searched through many posts but didn't find any other repairs. Do you know of anybody who has made similar repairs, or do you think there is a chance I could install some HDPE plates to possibly make the slide function better? Any information you might have would be appreciated. Respectfully, Gold Bug II
I have that same issue with the rollers wearing on the wood under the slide on the rack & pinion slide on my rig. Was looking specifically for the solution you used for that problem. What thickness HDPE did you use on your slide and does it still appear to be holding up after some use? Thanks.
What are you using for internet? I seen a video you posted but I can’t find it. It would be awesome if you made a tab just for internet and the equipment you use being this is one of the biggest issues with rving full time.
Give me the point of contact you used at Vroom. I have a Toy hauler that has a slide in a slide in the bedroom and have constant problems. Already had the Schwintek replaced twice
I purchased last week a full 4x8 sheet of HDPE for the accuslide rollers i purchased. And last night seen your video. So i must be on to something in my thinking about the rollers tearing up the Narco material under the slide. So how is youre hdpe holding up? Just curious. Also. Do you have wear bars your slides glide on going in and out?
I have a 25 foot fifth wheel I have a slide that holds my 7 foot Devonport and my table when there is 1000 pounds of people sitting on the Devonport an the table what keeps my RV from tipping over
Is there any way to adjust a Schwintek? I don't see any ways to adjust my big slide? The front of the slide when closed seals perfect but the back sticks out about 1 inch.
That's most likely the same thing That's wrong with mine. The top spur gear has a missing tooth. and cause it to jump ahead of the bottom gear. causing the bottom to stick out further than the top. Most issues with these systems is rv manufacturers not installing them right. One side of my slide was not on the bottom rollers the schwintek systems have to have the slides supported by slide rollers.
Not clear why the bends in the SS. It looks like just flat sheet would do the trick by spreading out the contact area and reducing contact with the wood product
Yes I would be happy with just the flat sheet but the bend out there did help with the belly sag in the middle of the slide. It’s still there but it did help a little.
@@AllAboutRVsare you talking about the middle of the front edge of the slide floor sagging? We have the same couch and 16cuft refrigerator in the slide, and the middle two feet (approximate) of the front edge makes contact with the floor when the slide is retracted. I've spoken to Joey at Vroom about the new sheet metal protectors as well, but I'm concerned if one of the sheets needs to be placed in that sagging area it will dig into the floor. We've successfully protected the floor with a thin carpet so far.

I bought an Alliance RV for 6 figures and only bought it because of all the fake info on the Alliance owners FB page. They touted how great the warranty and service was, so I was in. It was bought in July of 2022, a 2022 model, and it just now came out of the 4th different shop. It had over fifty issues and the entire process: shop and manufacturer, were terrible to say the least. I would not recommend buying an RV until things in the industry change.
Yep… i emailed them for an approximate cost on the Vroom system,…i gave details about my new small camper. They came back with a $4500.00 rough est. Outch. 2024 MK2670 GD Imagine.

Just my guess is to help in a possible deflection on the flat side as the roller has pressure on that point.

I bought an Alliance RV for 6 figures and only bought it because of all the fake info on the Alliance owners FB page. They touted how great the warranty and service was, so I was in. It was bought in July of 2022, a 2022 model, and it
just now came out of the 4th different shop.
Outch.
