@anitafranklin8856 Thanks!! Riding the train across the country is an awesome experience. When you go, it's great to experience it with a loved one. I hope you enjoy every minute of your trip. If you want to know how that trip is, I made a 3-part video on my experience on the California Zephyr this past New Year. Check those videos out as well!
The train ride is great, and a sleeper car is a must for comfort… I rode a bus from Atlanta to Philly one time, and it was absolute torture!! A conductor in Philly told me that there’s a shortage of conductors because of retirements and a lack of people qualified for the job.
Thank you for your video. I didn’t realize 30th St Station had a Metropolitan Lounge. Baltimore needs one of those. The same trains come through Baltimore, so a Metropolitan Lounge would be appropriate for us as well….Hint…Hint…Hint. Try the California Zephyr next. It’s a great ride as well.
You are very welcome, and thank you for watching my video. I wish all of the major cities had good Metropolitan Lounges. Some like the one in NOLA is sorry looking. Now, my next trips on Amtrak are coming next month. I will be going back home for Christmas, and I will be taking the train across the country afterward. First, I'll be leaving from Philly once again to go to Pittsburgh. Then, I'll leave Pittsburgh to head to Chicago. After a night in Chicago, I will be on the California Zephyr all the way through, and I will be on there for New Year's Eve. Hopefully, they will let us celebrate the new year while on the train. And last, I will once again be riding the Coast Starlight, but this time, it will be going from Emeryville CA to LA. Please, I will be doing a coach segment on Amtrak for this video and Philly to Pittsburgh. The other two are in Roomettes. Also, I will show the reason why it is good and bad to ride Amtrak in the winter. So, watch out for these videos in or around late December early January, Lord willing!
@jasonbathurst3199 Yeah, I had that issue on Amtrak last year going from Newark to Philly. There were no seats available, and I had to stand up for 99% of that trip. If you like to see me not having a seat on Amtrak, it is towards the end of my video title Training For The Cold Weather.
I feel that the sleeper cars should be in the back on all routes as well. Why do the first-class cars have to deal with the loud sounds of the locomotive and the train horn. Especially when riding out of terminals like New Orleans and Chicago, sleeper car passengers should be able to walk closer to and from the terminal to get on and off the platform. Since they pay more, they should have to worry less.
When doing a travel review on an airplane or by rail and they serve food, you must review the food as well so people will know that they have it onboard and so that can see if it's worth their time and money getting.
Thats a nice looking station you left from. Kinda reminds me of Newark Penn, but a bit better maintained over the years. Hopefully with the money they are putting into it they will fix it up a bit. Like seeing all these different people taking the train in these vids. After doing a ride to Florida I want to plan my next one!
@@marty-mar29 I will be leaving out of Philly. I plan on going all the way to LA. the route i was looking at was Philly to Chicago, then Chicago to LA via the Teaxas Eagle.
@Kilsangamming I've been on that route. That's a good route, long but good. It gets better once you get past San Antonio TX. I will be doing a video on the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle, February of 2025, from New Orleans LA to Los Angeles CA.
@Kilsangamming When planning the trip, make sure that you stay in Chicago for a couple of days as well. Don't plan to leave from Chicago the same day as the transfer. There's a chance your train, The Capitol Limited or The Cardinal, could be late getting into Chicago. And it will not wait for you. Book a good priced hotel that serves free breakfast, so you wouldn't have to worry about at least one meal, take a tour around the city and surrounding areas so you can get visiting Chicago off your bucket list.
Thanks for sharing your trip, Marty! My hubby & I are taking our first overnight trip to N'Orleans for a music festival and we'll be on this line too. So thrilled! Can't wait. I'm glad you showed how y'all get up on that bunk bed. My hubby is built like you but I can't see me being able to sleep with him up there, yah know? ;) I just love your uncle's food reviews. He's adorable.
This was filmed in September of 2022. Amtrak was still following some brovid protocols. But they didn't have a dining car on our trip anyway, only the cafe car. We had to eat in our rooms.
Hi i have a question im.going from Philly to Atlanta and I was wondering how bad the sleeper cars shake and if their big enough for plus size people traveling with small children
Well, you can see, I'm a plus size myself and I was super comfortable. The shaking of the sleeper actually helped me sleep more than staying still. How many people in total are traveling? Only 2 people are allowed in a Roomette, but you can have 4 people in a family room. Also, the more people on the same ticket, the less it cost per person. Meaning, if it is $450 for one person, the price for 2 people will be $636. That means it will be $318 per person. And if you have a child between 2-12, it will cost less than that for 2 people.
This was a nice video. Just some constructive criticism. When you are talking over the videos, turn the music down a little bit. Um, we really don't need to know when you're going to do your personal, personal business. Lol. I hate watching people brush their teeth, just tell us that you did. I'll believe you. Lol. Your uncle is so cute. I didn't know that you could take the train from Philly to New Orleans. I took the train from Jersey to Baltimore and it was crowded. I won't do that again. What time of year did you go? So did they not have a dining car on that route, or did you just choose to have all of your meals in the room. I'm going to subscribe to your channel. See where it takes you.
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate criticism, it helps me improve my channel. The reason why the music is a little loud is because I didn't realize the internal volume was low on my computer and when I was doing the editing, I burly heard the music. When staying in the sleepers, people need to know what they can and can't have. It is best to show that they can or can't. Because I can tell you anything that won't be true just because I want to exaggerate and hype up the experience. If you ever want to take the train somewhere, and you don't want to be around a lot of people, just take a sleeper car to your destination. Yes, it would be more, but you have total privacy when traveling. And yes, you can get a sleeper for a short run. I have done that myself. We only went Sep of '22 Some lines on Amtrak don't offer a dining car, but you can take your meal and eat it in the cafe car which is in between the sleeper and coach cars. Thank you for watching and subscribing to the channel.
@@marty-mar29 I don't think that you can take a sleeper from Jersey to Baltimore. I had a trip planned in April for Chicago to L.A. @@Ilovemesomemj1 I have taken a sleeper from Philly to DC a few years back. There's only 3 lines that you can get a room on Amtrak. The Cresent, The Silver Meteor, and The Cardinal. It's all about the time you were to leave for your destination if you are looking for a room on a sleeper. Each of those 3 lines only run once a day, so trust me when I say, it can be done. Also, I'm sorry that your trip from Chicago to LA was cancelled. Both Southwest Chief and Texas Eagle lines are fun to ride on. I have ridden on both lines from CHI to LA before. But now, I'm documenting all my travel.
We just took this train ride from New Orleans to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and it SUCKED!!! The train was always violently shaking, rocking back-and-forth and at times felt like it was going to roll over! It sucked so bad that the first day we got off the train we couldn’t even walk. We felt like we were beat up by a professional boxer. We were told there was a dinner cart and there wasn’t one, the only thing they had was a microwave hotdog or hamburger with very little of anything else. We didn’t even ride the train back we booked a flight as bad as I hate to fly I couldn’t take a beating like that again for 30 hours again. Not only what was mentioned above but the water stopped working so we were limited to one restroom for the entire train and they only let us off 2 times in 30 hours to stretch and get fresh air!! Never again. Don’t believe these videos saying how good these train rides are going to be because they suck!! Especially the Crescent 20 route!
I'm truly sorry to hear that you had a bad experience like this. Not all the time you will have a great experience, especially if you are not used to riding on the train. There will always be times the train could have issues where the water won't work properly or even if you can be unfortunate to be on a train that derails. I had one bad experience with Amtrak. But I didn't let that stop me from riding the train again. I must ask, was this your first time riding on a trip with Amtrak? If so, then I could probably understand if you never go on a train again. But if it was, then I would ask you to give it another shot, but on another route like the LDR's (Long Distance Rail).
So let me tell you about my one-time bad experience on Amtrak. This may be a long story so sit back, relax, and please read it all. Back in September of 2021, before I decided to start making videos for UA-cam, me and my uncle was onboard Amtrak Texas Eagle. Our water wasn't working in the car we were in as well, so no showers could be taken in our car. Getting back on track with what happened with us now. Being that my family and friends from back home knew that we were on the train, they didn't know which one I was on. They heard about a train derailment on the news, and I got flooded with calls to see if I'm ok. My first call told me about the derailment and more just kept coming in. I ensured everyone else that didn't call me that I was not on the train that derailed. I was sad to hear that 3 people died on that train and hoped that I can make it down to Dallas safely. Only an hour after those calls, we were riding along the tracks when all of a sudden, the train was shaking so crazy. I thought for sure that we were about to derail ourselves. It would have been insane if Amtrak had two train derailments on the same day in different parts of the country. The shaking went on for about 30 seconds but then it just stopped. Causing everyone on the train to be calm once again. Turns out that the tracks were buckled and if the engineers would had stopped, the train would have for sure derailed. That may be what happened on your trip. I was scared, but I didn't let that stop me from enjoying the rest of my trip. After my time in Dallas, I got back on the Texas Eagle to head up to St. Louis MO. Then I got on the Missouri River Run line to head to Kansas City MO. And finally, got on the Southwest Chief to head to Los Angeles where the locomotive on that line broke down and we were stuck for nearly 5 hours causing us to arrive at our destination more than 10 hours late. But I can tell you, this trip back in 2021 was a nightmare, but I didn't let this stop me from enjoying my trip across the country in 2022 and will not stop me from my trip on all the other lines in 2023 or 2024. So, Mr. Brown, not all experiences riding Amtrak can be fun. But please don't let one trip experience ruin your full experience on the rails. And I am being real with you sir. Thanks for hearing me out!
