Me neither. This reminds me of an interview i saw of Iggy Pop. He mentioned that Bowie was the hardest working man he'd ever been in contact with. The amount of albums he put out is a testament to that. And luckily in Bowie's case he had the talent and luck to create top-shelf quality music too! Epic epic epic...

Mario Sparing Hey Mario. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Yes you're absolutely right. I wish more people explore their true potential like David did. Despite of feeling isolated. Greetings from Norway.
Some of us feel like we just don't belong in society as it is now. Our experiences have tended to isolate us so that we do not connect easily to other people. Especially if we've found that reaching out to others has been less than useful for us in the past. I think people need to understand that issues people have with mental health actually have little to do with health per se. Usually in my experience depression and other problems are a normal response to extraordinary circumstances. There is no chemical imbalance in the brain, people have simply been treated badly with no way of seeking justice. It's enough to drive anyone over the edge. I think those of us who don't sink into depression under such circumstances are simply more stubborn. =D I know I am these days.

Also being just different or individual and feeling isolated or even shunned from the majority of people are not the same. If you fall in the latter category you will have a hard time feeling "special", because your individuality will not be perceived as a good thing by anyone. Space Oddity was not a huge success at first it was very moderately successful. It ended up becoming much more successful after the release of arguably his Magnus opus, The rise and fall of ziggy stardust.
He wasn't polarising, he was here to unite. To show people that you can be a total individual (ahead of your time) and still do ok and feel ok within yourself. He valued creativity and originality; the opposite to mass produced blandness that is devoid of character.
As a person with BPD and being looked at for DID, I completely relate with this. I have many characters that I've made and portrayed or sometimes they just show up out if nowhere and they live in my mind, they're like other real people and sometimes they take control over me. But I also mask, I mask other people and characters that are already invented. Thats how I cope with my chronic mental health lmao
As an attention-seeker with a need to comment about my self-diagnosed BPD on a video that’s supposed to be about David Bowie, I completely relate to this comment (I’m different)
The greatest, most unique artist who approached pop/rock music, & fame, like no other artist amongst his peers, as well as his place in modern history...
Space oddity…man that song got its hooks in first. After that as a teen I started buying records, the Man who Sold the World, and I was hooked on Bowie. I couldn’t walk for a year, and while healing I got ChangesBowie. That record and my friend Ed kept me alive as I recovered. I’m sad I’ll never get to tell him in person, but thanks David. You were very special to me.
I think you should make your next episode on the smiths or morrissey. They changed music history whilst only 5 years together with a unique guitar style and morrissey's clever lyrics. They even inspired great bands like Radiohead and Oasis.
Nicolle Anne No problem. He means the same to me. I still remember the day i first heard Space Oddity! That was a magical moment. Instantly became a fan ☝️😊
1969 was the year for music. You had Bowie, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Woodstock, summer of love--it was the height of rock n' roll that nobody can recreate nowadays.
That's awesome! I started listening to him pretty late as well. I think it was first back in 2012 that i listened through one of his albums entirely - and got hooked. Here's another great video that explains his other character. The Thin White Duke ua-cam.com/video/ofeSZJJ_fxQ/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for uploading this. Bowie had been a huge influence in my life in both fashion and music. He makes me feel like I can be myself and tell stories in my music. You just helped me understand myself and him more than you know 💙💙
I just heard of space oddity recently but the first time I listened to it I cried, along with some of his other music, He is becoming my favorite rock artist and inspiration.
We lost someone who tried to conquer issues over his upbringing ...then becoming a pure genius at all he attempted ...So sadly missed Bowie will always Rock... as well as so loved and admired. We have to celebrate the person's life and films and say Thank god I was born when Bowie was around...
My grandmother once saw bowie at an airport when coming to my town and she said that he was so down to earth and aware of everything around him and talked as if he knew he was going to die
Yo mate! Just wanted to say I fucking love this video, I've watched it so many times. Bowie's one of my favourite artists ever and I don't know what it is but this video just engages me so much. Thanks for making it man!
I was 12 when he passed away unfortunately, I had gotten to love his music when I was about 10 and to hear that hero passed away was terrible for me. I'm just glad his music lives on and his interviews live on.
Great video! I think it's worth noting that Peter Gabriel with Genesis in the early 70s (at pretty much the same time as Bowie or perhaps earlier) would perform as characters throughout their shows, singing and telling stories through these different characters with specific costumes, mannerisms and a lot of the time different voices to go along with these characters
Jaden Wow i didn't know that! I forgot to mention that Alice Cooper had something simmilar going on too. But i'll make sure to check out Peter Gabriel's performances soon. Thanks for adding value in the comments!
True . Peter Gabriel got the idea when he and Tony Banks ( Genesis keyboard player ) saw Bowie perform with his backing band , The Hype , at The Roundhouse in London in 1970 ; the same venue Genesis were performing at too .
I was 16 in 1972. I thought at that time he’d always be Ziggy Stardust. I was surprised he went to different characters. I saw The Diamond Dogs Tour in LA. He played at The Universal Amphitheater. Somehow my buddy and I had seats in the 8th Row of stage left. We sat by Elton John , Diana Ross , and many other celebrities. It was a fun night as young guys. I’m so glad to have seen him perform. Mick Ronson really added to it all also. His guitar work just added something otherworldly and seem to be as unique at that time as Bowie himself.
I agree with the characters of course but he also did it to keep up with the time which is why his music change throughout his career which was absolutely incredible and what made him smart when it came to music and popular throughout his career “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise you it won’t be boring”-David Bowie
Henry No problem! Eric Andre is the shit haha. Yeah? Well there you have your answers. Bowie is without a doubt one of the most interesting artists in music.
When talking about David projecting on Major Tom, my guy forgot that the next lines are literally "Strung up in heavens high, awaiting an all time low." Still love the vid.
Actually, Marc and Bowie were very good friends. In the late 60's they would go to somebody's house (cant remember who) and the 3 of them would jam together. They very much influenced each other heavily
as a prolific Bowie fan, Marc Bolan definitely. Never heard any one mention an Alice Cooper influence though. I could definitely see how he would've been though.
What Bowie did with Ziggy reminds me of Poppy now. How she acts in character in interviews and how she's basically killed the character off in her most recent record.
I remember when you were at 500 subscribers, now 7000 subscribers. I think you're one of the best music youtubers, you will reach 100.000 subscribers and more!
0:35 One of David Bowies top 100 book is "The Outsider" by Colin Wilson. If you look online youll find endless videos about the "lonliness epidemic" with people describing feeling this exact way, its very liberating and honestly beautiful to see it as a virtue, instead of as a curse.
Saw him in LA when he was the Thin White Duke, he was beyond awesome, my friend and I managed to sneak our way all the way to the bottom of the stage, I could of reached out and touched his shoes!! I'll never forget!!!
Damn! If i were you i would've tried to steal his shoes. Must've been worth a fortune if you had them today. Muhahaha. But for real, that's really cool. Thanks for sharing.
bowie was a huge fan of the occult, he later joined the golden dawn, that's why he kept changing his characters, 70% of his lyrics were about some mystical and spiritual stuff
Joined the Golden Dawn ? He was fascinated by them, Crowley and Western Mysticism. A few if his lyric reference this but I think you greatly exaggerate. Where is the evidence of his membership of any Mystical Order?
Most members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn already died of old age before David Bowie was born. Although many imitators claimed to be associated with the original, none of them really was. Although most if not all occult orders claim to represent genuine heritage, none of them does and blatantly lying about it is part of their game.
4:50 Looking back, I guess that was also just a part of an act, and not actually the real deal - in order to stay in character. After all, he was the incredibly thorough Actor, as well as Ingenious Musician. And, on an unrelated note, seeing his relations with his Friends, his Wife Iman, his Children and numerous other people he met during his Life - He, apart from being the great Artist, was also a great Person..... David Bowie surely is missed.....
You really should have talked about The Thin White Duke, considering the cocaine references in Ashes to Ashes go hand in hand with those on Station to Station.
Yeah, and mostly that it was just him and that he had nothing else to really say. In Low, there is very little ambiguous lyrics of themes. It's just that and the beautiful music that surrounds him on that album. That's what makes it so special, it's unassuming and straight forward.
Dr. Aisaitl Never payed that much attention to the lyrics. And maybe that's the reason. It's there mostly for the sake of sounding good with music. I always prefered the first half of the album. But a friend of mine said i should listen more to the second part too. I guess it takes a bit more time to become familiar with the more avant garde, electronic stuff he did. What's your take on that?
You don't really have to focus on the lyrics, I mean each song that has them has an interesting backstory that's inspired by something real, but it's not really that important in comparison to Ziggy or Station. As for not preferring the second half, I can see why because it takes time to enjoy. Although Warszawa and Subterraneans always stood out to me as being really good . I didn't even like Lowe the first time I heard it, but it's a masterpiece through and through.
He may have been bisexual. I think he even claimed he was bi too and there were rumors about him having a thing with Jagger as well as Iggy Pop … but we'll never know for sure, I guess.
David Bowie wasn't even bi, in an interview shortly before his death he described himself as a "closet heterosexual" who just never bothered to correct people.
David Bowie himself was a stage character. His wife said that the man at home was very different from the one the world got to see. He never legally changed his name to Bowie and she preferred to say she married David Jones.

Major Tom made his last appearance in his last album, in Blackstar
In the music video for ehm. WHat's that song called again?
As a person with BPD and being looked at for DID, I completely relate with this. I have many characters that I've made and portrayed or sometimes they just show up out if nowhere and they live in my mind, they're like other real people and sometimes they take control over me. But I also mask, I mask other people and characters that are already invented.
Thats how I cope with my chronic mental health lmao
As an attention-seeker with a need to comment about my self-diagnosed BPD on a video that’s supposed to be about David Bowie, I completely relate to this comment (I’m different)
Love him forever still can't believe he's gone Happy birthday in heaven
True, it was his birthday on the 8th! Time flies
The greatest, most unique artist who approached pop/rock music, & fame, like no other artist amongst his peers, as well as his place in modern history...
Word! Couldn't have said it better myself.
Francisco Navarro Ah that would be a great topic! Love The Queen Is Dead 🎶 I'll put it on my list!
who in gods great name actually unironically likes morrissey? what a joke lmao
Johnny Marr going solo artist is a much heroic inspiring tale. Roughly same time as Bowie’s The Next day
What a fantastic video! David would be proud! He is one of my most favorite artists of all time. Thank you for this!
We could try but it wouldn’t ever be the same
This is amazing. I’ve gotten into his music after his death unfortunately and was a bit confused by his characters sometimes. This video helped a lot.
That's awesome! I started listening to him pretty late as well. I think it was first back in 2012 that
i listened through one of his albums entirely - and got hooked. Here's another great video that
explains his other character. The Thin White Duke ua-cam.com/video/ofeSZJJ_fxQ/v-deo.html
Lie Likes Music Thank you :)!
Thank you so much for uploading this. Bowie had been a huge influence in my life in both fashion and music. He makes me feel like I can be myself and tell stories in my music. You just helped me understand myself and him more than you know 💙💙
today is the day he died. I miss you ziggy
rest on mars
~ one of your biggest fans
I was just crying there now because I didn’t get a chance to go to any of his concerts or see him in person...... rip David ilysm ❤️🥺
I just heard of space oddity recently but the first time I listened to it I cried, along with some of his other music, He is becoming my favorite rock artist and inspiration.
Cool! Yes the first time i heard it too it made a huge impact on me. I was an instant fan from that moment onwards
This is a wonderful channel
Very well put together and being a huge Bowie fan
You done him, the music and the movement
He left behind
Justice..
Thank you! That's very kind of you to say that man. Greetings from Norway.
Lie Likes Music you are so very much welcome
Greetings from America
fun fact; i absolutely love bowie, he also made my favourite song, Diamond Dogs.
We lost someone who tried to conquer issues over his upbringing ...then becoming a pure genius at all he attempted ...So sadly missed Bowie will always Rock... as well as so loved and admired. We have to celebrate the person's life and films and say Thank god I was born when Bowie was around...
Iam am so happy that i found this channel. Your videos are amazing
imamango o Thank you for saying that! I try to make them as good as possible.
My grandmother once saw bowie at an airport when coming to my town and she said that he was so down to earth and aware of everything around him and talked as if he knew he was going to die
David Bowie. The basis used for an actual musical act. Create what you are. Not just a good voice, a presentation.
That's what he did. And i don't think he was the characters. He became them.
he pulled them out into the light for all to enjoy. same difference, only the tense is at issue.
Yo mate! Just wanted to say I fucking love this video, I've watched it so many times. Bowie's one of my favourite artists ever and I don't know what it is but this video just engages me so much. Thanks for making it man!
Hey that's very nice of you to say. I'm glad you like it :)
No matter how many personality’s he will have, he will always be bowie
More prog though , Bowie went more the velvet underground , New York dolls and Iggy Pop in rock idiom
Jaden and mr gabby never lived out his characters offstage
True . Peter Gabriel got the idea when he and Tony Banks ( Genesis keyboard player ) saw Bowie perform with his backing band , The Hype , at The Roundhouse in London in 1970 ; the same venue Genesis were performing at too .
I thoroughly enjoyed your video explaining some of Bowie's characters, esp. Major Tom and how he kept making a comeback. Terrific!
That eric andre reference BELLISSIMO
Flying Monkey T bird up
moldy rosemary best show on television
Ear from me
duuude I know you my man, you are mellow Mike
dude you'r being like a narco right now, you'r being so narcoleptic
I was 16 in 1972. I thought at that time he’d always be Ziggy Stardust. I was surprised he went to different characters. I saw The Diamond Dogs Tour in LA. He played at The Universal Amphitheater. Somehow my buddy and I had seats in the 8th Row of stage left. We sat by Elton John , Diana Ross , and many other celebrities. It was a fun night as young guys. I’m so glad to have seen him perform. Mick Ronson really added to it all also. His guitar work just added something otherworldly and seem to be as unique at that time as Bowie himself.
0:24 a true face of a mad lad
I agree with the characters of course but he also did it to keep up with the time which is why his music change throughout his career which was absolutely incredible and what made him smart when it came to music and popular throughout his career
“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise you it won’t be boring”-David Bowie
Matt Prada That is very true. He wanted to do what he loved AND make it big at the same time. It hit home for sure.
Bowie looking down palm faced saying to himself "I cant believe they're still analyzing things i did 50 years ago".............
Also great analysis of Bowie’s characters, I always wondered what was up with all of them and this helped a lot
Henry No problem! Eric Andre is the shit haha. Yeah? Well there you have your answers. Bowie is without a doubt one of the most interesting artists in music.
Un uomo con un cervello e un cuore....un artista con coraggio e creatività....insomma..un genio...grandissimo Bowie
Thank you for covering Bowie; He’s my greatest hero. Blessings.
Alvaro Elias No worries. It was a pleasure for me! 👍😊 Greetings from Norway.
You forgot Kira Yoshikage
Who or what is that?
@@HalibutToast his stands name and abilities are also killer queen, sheer heart attack, and bites the dust! Not bowie but still a great band :D
In this case Bowie is also Lucifer Morningstar from the Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic book series.
Oh no you’ve discovered his ident- KILLER QUEEN DAISEN NO BAKUDAN, BITEZ A DUSTO
vascello0o I’m amazed they pulled that off
Just wish I could be this influential but I’ve got nothing new to give - I admire his man more than I can put into words
Don't say that. You just need to explore the things you like, get feedback from others about what you're
really good at and then repeat the process.
Understanting Wavves and understanting Sticky Fingers!! I find them both really interesting bands, and it's cool that they are both new-ish bands!
LOVE Wavves! Might do one about them since i already know quite a bit about them.
Thanks for recommending them.
Strong - highly gifted - different - curious - full of passion - that's him. Brilliant character description - I totally agree
Thanks. I'm glad you resonated with this!
Great Video, David was realy ahead of his time, Something about the velvet Underground would be nice aswell
He really was. I'll definately dedicate a video to The Velvet Underground. That's possibly an even more influential band.
When talking about David projecting on Major Tom, my guy forgot that the next lines are literally "Strung up in heavens high, awaiting an all time low." Still love the vid.
i am sure Marc Bolan and Alice Cooper influence David Bowie too!!!
Kevin Clepps Alice Cooper maybe. Marc Bolan - that's more likely since they met several times.
Actually, Marc and Bowie were very good friends. In the late 60's they would go to somebody's house (cant remember who) and the 3 of them would jam together. They very much influenced each other heavily
Jak Ando True. I think it might have been a painter's house. One that created the album art for one of their albums. I might be wrong though.
Lie Likes Music ooh, that sounds about right. I remember he was a behind the scenes type fella, so painter sounds about right!
as a prolific Bowie fan, Marc Bolan definitely. Never heard any one mention an Alice Cooper influence though. I could definitely see how he would've been though.
He's entertaining in the clouds now. R.I.P.
"Don't cry because it ended. Smile, because it happened." -Stan Lee. He, himself is gone, now.
To sum it all up, Bowie said it best...
He said, that he’s not a “Singer”, he’s a “Performer”.
Word!
this was so good. I got all teary. mixing arts telling a story...just genius now words tbh
SeraS Ah that's so sweet of you to say. I'm glad the video made an impact on you. Greetings from Norway 👍😊
What Bowie did with Ziggy reminds me of Poppy now. How she acts in character in interviews and how she's basically killed the character off in her most recent record.
Pfft, that UA-cam wannabe is already forgotten. Actual talent like Bowie is eternal.
@@elisabethandersen1102 "already forgotten" she literally JUST performed on WWE tonight and topped the rock charts in iTunes in June but ok dude
He shaped my mind and heart! So glad I got to live while he was making music💖💖
Ivy May Same, although i became aware of his music only towards the end. Must've been awesome growing up with his music though! Thank you for sharing.
Its been so long without bowie that im putting out fires with gasoline.
Unexpected reference to a david bowie song
Unexpected account decided to David Bowie.
I remember when you were at 500 subscribers, now 7000 subscribers. I think you're one of the best music youtubers, you will reach 100.000 subscribers and more!
*Bowie had a billion times more talent and creativity in the fingertip of his pinky than 99% of artists today combined!*
0:35 One of David Bowies top 100 book is "The Outsider" by Colin Wilson. If you look online youll find endless videos about the "lonliness epidemic" with people describing feeling this exact way, its very liberating and honestly beautiful to see it as a virtue, instead of as a curse.
Holy crap you gained a lot of subscribers. Been here since you had 500 or so :O
Hou Khohs 😄 Yes i grew with 6k subs the last 30 days!! Some of these new videos just exploded. Thank you for sticking with me for so long.
Lie Likes Music by the new style of the thumbnails i couldn't even tell if it was your content 😂
Awesome explanation. It gave me a wish of having more. Bowie is an endless book.
Great video!
Thank you! Appreciate that you took the time to watch.
What you're saying is true. I think i saw him posing as Aleister Crowley in one of his photos.
Really interesting guy.
When I saw title ,, understanding david Bowie’s character “ I was like what... it’s impossible but I have to admit that it was really good review
4:50
Looking back, I guess that was also just a part of an act, and not actually the real deal - in order to stay in character.
I did love this one ! Bowie lives on 4 ever
does anyone know where i can find that life on mars piano instrumental in the intro?
Tullamore ua-cam.com/video/jDl4s79uF3w/v-deo.html Here you go man.
thanks so much man
Great video! Thanks a ton x
You really should have talked about The Thin White Duke, considering the cocaine references in Ashes to Ashes go hand in hand with those on Station to Station.
ua-cam.com/video/ofeSZJJ_fxQ/v-deo.html Check out this video for more info about TTWD
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky, station to station and class to classy. Yep. Bowie.
Amazing synthesis of David's career, personas, characters, etc. Thanks to the author for this beautiful viddy. David forever! Paola rock, Roma, Italia
I'm glad you enjoyed Paola! Many greetings from Oslo, Norway :)
Thanks for your answer! Many greetings from Ostia beach, Roma, Italia
Great video! My favourite character is post-drug himself (Berlin trilogy Bowie)
Dr. Aisaitl Ouh easily my favorite too. But much because i've listened a lot more to that period than anything else he did.
I was 13 when ziggy stardust jumped on stage. He changed my life for ever........he was my teacher,my friend......merci david
Hes gay? I thought he hada wife and daughter.. You mean the character ziggy right?
I guess the character is more correct yes. Or maybe he just lied about that to get more attention.
He may have been bisexual. I think he even claimed he was bi too and there were rumors about him having a thing with Jagger as well as Iggy Pop … but we'll never know for sure, I guess.
He was bi but back then people didn't make the distinction between the 2.
He was Bi.
But in those times there was not difference - it was straight or gay
David Bowie wasn't even bi, in an interview shortly before his death he described himself as a "closet heterosexual" who just never bothered to correct people.
Thank you for making this! It gave me a much better understanding of Bowie and his characters. :-)
Awesome! Was there anything in particular you enjoyed?
Coolest goddamn video
Thank you :)
My heart is beating so fast. I’m falling in love with this man all over again.
Haha, that's great Nath!
