He said he always repeated himself in a way - coming back to the same themes of alienation and inner struggle again and again - but always from a new angle or approach. That he didn't repeat, although many times his work did echo back to earlier pieces. A true artist.
I love that the animators even went through the detailing of Bowie's eyes, giving one a ring around it to show how one pupil was larger than the other.
For a man who did more cocaine than god and has experienced life in a crazy kaleidoscope that most of us could never imagine in our wildest dreams, David Bowie is surprisingly down to earth.
He had a huge cocaine problem from 72-76. A massive one, I read even Mick Jagger was worried about him. Being awake for 5 days doing BOWLS of cocaine but still tore it up in the studio
For those of you wondering why one of his pupils was bigger than the other: When he was a teenager him and his friend George Underwood got into a fight over girl which led Underwood punching Bowie in his left eye. The doctors later determined that the damage caused the pupil to be permanently dilated which caused faulty depth perception and gave the impression that the iris was a different color from the other. Bowie and Underwood were still good friends after and Underwood would even design the artwork for Bowies first few albums.
Even when in the midst of his cocaine addiction, David had more presence of mind, than most of us ever can dream of. What an unique man, and true artist, so authentic, an explorer and lover of life on earth and beyond, of things seen and unseen. Gosh, I Love him so
David Bowie was sometimes the only constant in my life that was ever-changing. My favorite song fir years is his Starman, and I seriously could never imagine a world where I didn't listen to his music. Hes absolutely a masterpiece.
One of the greatest men that walked the planet, eternally influential, eternally a legend, eternally in all of our hearts. Not just Bowie himself but his music too, he lives on through his work, work that will be continually listened to and reference and played over and over and over forever. Thank you for your work Bowie, you’ve done so much for music and you’ve done so much and continue to do so much for peoples lives. Rest in peace the G.O.A.T.
The beauty of Bowie was that he never fell into the trappings of fame. Once you've made it as an artist, you've got your management and your fans asking you to do what is essentially the same thing over, and over with very little variation. That can be incredibly limiting and depressing as an artist, so Bowie just simply ignored them and worked only to satisfy himself. That takes a hell of a lot of bravery and foresight. He was just this unstoppable creative force and a true artist.
He was not just a composer but a creator who strengthened the roots of whatever genre that he used to convey his creativity in this world. Those personalities David made during his career span of more than 50 years itself apart him from any other of his contemporaries. Especially after listened to 'Blackstar', which sounded Avant garde now I miss him way too much since he still would've produced different kind of sounds to us with his unique 'Bowiesque' way of style. ❤️
was just talking about him with a friend. We've both met and had chats with him - such an easy man to get on with. His creativity reaches us on a personal level, and i believe it has a great deal to do with his willingness to engage whoever or whatever comes along - you can't rediscover yourself if you're not continually discovering the life and lives around you with an open mind. Long live Bowie. Long, long, long live Bowie.
Kids today (2019) have missed out on the birth of rock and rock. They are enjoying the fruits of the creators of rock and roll. Bless their little cotton socks.
I was a kid when Let's Dance came out. A lot of it had to do with Stevie Ray Vaughan, but I didn't really appreciate his earlier stuff and still don't want to listen to it to this day. However the last few albums David put out we're so unbelievably creative and well-produced that I absolutely fell in love with his talent and ability to work and produce the highest level of pop culture. And although he's gone now, the great news is there's a lot of material that I have yet to discover. Cheers David!
David, David (smile), you really are the performance artist, aren't you? Ripping and rewrapping present and past into a shiny yet opaque cocoon, remaining hidden from view. Like a baby glass spider. Of Mars.
What a wonderful and honest man, i may not be the greatest fan of your works and i only knew you when you died but you are certainly worthy of your glory Mr. Bowie I won't be surprised if he was given the honor of a knight, at dark times like these it really helps knowing people like bowie existed and sailed on the steel breeze to the sun. Respect
"An audience appriciation is only going to be periodic at the best of times. You'll fall in and out of favor continually. I don't think it should be something one should be looking for. I think you should turn around at the end of the day and say 'I really like that peice of work' or 'that piece of work sucked' not 'was that popular or wasn't it popular'" Still relevant to this day.
ThinWhiteAxe "He wasn't a great singer" .. . uuuuuuhhhhhhhhh THAT isn't what BING CROSBY thought, for the record! That's why he had him do that famous duet with him. And THAT didn't have anything to do with anything besides singing.
David Bowie sounds like an awesome guy to chat with.
JAY PARIS I would talk to him for hours on end. He's an amazing artist.
He bookmarked himself quite well between the bowie the rockstar & bowie the man.
Always exploring yet very much grounded.
A perfect artist, really.
Alas...
Ofcourse
Too late
Bowie's strength is that he rarely repeats himself.
Especially in an industry that demands it at times.
when he does it’s artistic, like a nod or a different view in an old idea.
Lhes actually quite a good singer, little known fact
He said he always repeated himself in a way - coming back to the same themes of alienation and inner struggle again and again - but always from a new angle or approach. That he didn't repeat, although many times his work did echo back to earlier pieces. A true artist.
I really thought he would live forever
i thought the same for chuck berry
Legends never die.
vanillabitch but he died
legends never die
vanillabitch that's not true
I love that the animators even went through the detailing of Bowie's eyes, giving one a ring around it to show how one pupil was larger than the other.
dave, you are a unique beautiful citizen of earth.i believe you will reincarnate into a better rock god.see you on your side!
Yeah
He kinda looks like Sans though.
Thank you for pointing that out. Most people keep saying that they're different colors even though they're quite clearly not if you look closely.
For a man who did more cocaine than god and has experienced life in a crazy kaleidoscope that most of us could never imagine in our wildest dreams, David Bowie is surprisingly down to earth.
He always was if you consider writings and works at the exhibition David B is.
Gore Motel
well god doesn't do coke so anyone can do more coke than God
I think that's the pun. Or maybe not.
You mean he’s surprisingly down to earth... for a Starman? 🥁
Well, after all that cocaine and stardust, eventually he just fell to Earth...
Bye, David. You were always a rockstar, still are.
Nokomarie he was more than a rockstar, he was a visionary and true musician
Mosixman he's not a rock star...... he's a blackstar
RIP
Bowie was something MUCH GREATER than a mere rockstar!
An artist and a rock god
72-76? Bowie was a rock star from beginning to end!
but man, Ziggy was long way death before 76. Till that date he have already realized Diamond Dogs, Young Americans and Station to Station...
In the 80s David Bowie was very pop instead of rock.
He had a huge cocaine problem from 72-76. A massive one, I read even Mick Jagger was worried about him. Being awake for 5 days doing BOWLS of cocaine but still tore it up in the studio
Bowie was something MUCH GREATER than a mere rockstar!
When I heard his voice, my eyes immediately teared up and got immediate chills
Loveless Knight u aren't the only one man
RIP our beautiful Star Man

"I'm not a great singer, but I can interpret the song"
He got it
It's entirely true.
Even when in the midst of his cocaine addiction, David had more presence of mind, than most of us ever can dream of.
What an unique man, and true artist, so authentic, an explorer and lover of life on earth and beyond, of things seen and unseen.
Gosh, I Love him so
Bowie is such an innovative creator, always a pleasure to see him and hear him!
We will miss you so much. Thank you. For everything.

David Bowie was, is and always will be a role model and inspiration for me. He will live on forever and ever.
David Bowie was sometimes the only constant in my life that was ever-changing. My favorite song fir years is his Starman, and I seriously could never imagine a world where I didn't listen to his music. Hes absolutely a masterpiece.
My favorite era of Bowie is 76-80. Love all his stuff! Legend!

I love hearing his voice in interviews and his jokes.Very soft voice and warmth.
You should listen his telling of Peter and the wolf
Vincent von Werne I always listen to it the night before an exam in order to sleep well 😅
Bowie's voice makes my heart flutter :)

One of the best uploads by Blank on Blank. Bowie was one Rock's great intellectuals and his eloquence and good nature shine here.

Thus entire series feels like someone went to heaven (or hell) and interviewed a bunch of amazing people

"There's a Starman, waiting in the sky..."
See you there one day, Mr. Bowie.
I know exactly what he means by creating for an invented concept/persona rather than for one's self.

Love this series. Please consider doing one with Leonard Cohen. He's definitely one of the best songwriters/performers/poets of our time.
Here is the explanation of the start of Stardust Crusaders insperarion. It makes so much sense now. Love JJBA and David Bowie even more now.
I love how self aware he was
I wish i could talk like him his way of talking is simply so soothing and intelligent sigh

RIP legend
Brilliant and inspirational
A Unique one of a kind talent A one off RIP Legend for eternity.
GOTTA LOVE BOWIE!!!
David Bowie explored what being an artist, songwriter, storyteller was all about.
Bowie doesn't think he's a great singer. I can only dream of being that not great a singer.
He knows himself that's why, He wasn't a great singer but he was a great artist. He was honest with himself.
He was correct. He wasn't a great singer... he was a great interpreter. Interpreted the hell out of everything he got his hands on -- not just music.
ThinWhiteAxe "He wasn't a great singer" .. . uuuuuuhhhhhhhhh THAT isn't what BING CROSBY thought, for the record! That's why he had him do that famous duet with him. And THAT didn't have anything to do with anything besides singing.
Also, listen to him sing Wild Is The Wind and THEN tell us he's "not a great singer"!
Creepy Skulldini Oh lord I love that song
He will me missed. he will live on. Forever and ever.
These are great! Thoroughly enjoying them :)
