This was most definitely relevant to my interests. :) Thanks for the great livestream! Sorry I couldn't catch it on its original stream date, but you answered pretty much everything I had questions about as far as orchestral percussion goes. Much obliged!
Thanks, John, for that very instructive livestream. The support information that Steinberg provides by means of the videos from yourself, but also from Anthony and Markus (in German) by far outweigh what other software makers are delivering. I have one comment though: While it is a nice example about implementing your own playing technique, I would not encourage using a playing technique for the play with brushes. It's better notated as an instrument change which provides the necessary indications "to sticks" and "to brushes".
I would normally use a text direction for the player, so a playing technique would work? Otherwise you need to set up a different kit and have the 'to brushes' etc label which seemed unnecessarily complicated?
Great video. Thanks! In note entry, we can change the playing technique for the snare (for example) by selecting it and typing alt/opt+up/down, but open hi-hat doesn't seem to be available that way. Am I missing something or is it correct that you can't change a hi-hat to open hi-hat that way? If the latter, do you know why? Do you recommend a macro or other method to enable a keyboard-based quick way to enter open hi-hat?
Thanks! Can you do a similar video but with latino drums? Including conga drums, bongo drums, Salsa Timbales drums (low drum, high drum, cáscara= drum shell, cymbals, and cowbells), guiro and maracas. I am a Hispanic-Latino composer new to Dorico. I was a Finale user before, but now using Dorico after the Finale’s stopped all support services on Mac.
Hi John, wasn't able to catch your presentation live. Wish you did this a month ago. I plugged away and used the forum to answer my questions how to setup a VST and mapping. You answered that perfectly in this video presentation 🙏. Question: when entering the notes, etc in Full Score, then switching to Drum Set, why is Drum Set not mirroring the Full Score? Why use one over the other? thank you
You can choose different settings in Library > Layout Options for the score and parts, might that be what's happening? Email discoverdorico@steinberg.de with a project if you have an issue and I'll take a look
For entry with a mouse, can I add multiple voices to one beat/stem just by clicking where I want to add additional voices? Maybe this is a setting? I struggled to figure this out when I first trying out Dorico. It’s a method I’ve used in Finale for decades, so I’m struggling to get comfortable here.
Yes, but press 'Q' first so that you are in chord mode. It's not a very quick/accurate method, but you can. See these videos for other options too: ua-cam.com/video/3DWbqXpHZkA/v-deo.html
Great ! Is there a way to tie into a 2nd ending? I can’t seem to find a way to have a note tied over the barline into a 2nd ending, though it works normally in 1st endings.
Ciao, ho visto che si possono inserire con facilità le Lettere da utilizzare per la concertazione, ma come si fa a mettere i numeri grandi invece che le lettere? Grazie!
John Barron you are a national (well, international) treasure! This is great, focused, relevant, and best of all fascinating!
Thanks 🤷♂
Such a great piece of software. Thank you so much for the gift of Dorico Pro which I use every single day of the week.

This is a much needed and very welcome tutorial on percussion. setup.
Thank you
Merci John pour ce super Tuto. La traduction multi-langues est paramétrable et je pense que les chapitres seront en place dans quelques jours.
This video was very helpful, especially the Large Ensemble Percussion set-up.
Thanks you very much, Daniel, for this material. Thank you for Dorico! :-)

I keep seeing you click the function key F6. What does that do? When I click it in Dorico it doesn't do anything. Great video, by the way!
Sorry, it's my quick shortcut to show the mouse highlighter!

I'm not quite sure what you mean, can you give me more details please?
