I've been building/flying RC helicopters for 32 years and have never seen this simple technique used.
I'll certainly try it out. 😀

Unbelievably simple - outstanding tip! Many Thanks, I'm going to try this for myself.

Better than using a manufactured leveler. Because the zip tie can be tied after your rotor hub is mounted, you can use this zip tie for every flight day , or after a light crash when you don't want to unmount the rotor hub.

I have never owned a Thunder Tiger of any kind, but some on the forum have. I invite you to come over and post up as there are a lot of knowledgeable folks over there. www.Rc-Help.com

The problem with the zip tie is you can only test for swash plate being level statically ie when the swash is at the bottom, middle or top of its travel. The 3 legged leveller, you can see if the swash is level at any point as you raise pitch and the swash moves from the bottom of its travel to the top.

You can do the same with the zip tie. Thanks for your comment.

Hey man...quick question. I have a blade 150s that I'm struggling with. When I try to take off, it wants to tip over. I'm not sure if it's an unlevel swash plate, not having zero pitch on the blades at zero stick, or something else? And, I did the calibration procedure to make sure that was set properly. Any suggestions, and I really appreciate you help.

DX9, pitch curve, cannot get 50/50 at the bottom, even when my numbers match those shown in the video. Cannot move the graph itself, just the table of numbers.

Hi. Tell me, how did you set the angle 📐 90 degrees, between the 2 ties? Approximately ?

    • @michaelgeorge3092
      @michaelgeorge3092 2 роки тому

he didnt. he guessed. if you saw at the end, from a certain angle it wasnt 90 deg. in fact it doesnt need to be. it can be any angle close to it, as long as vertical tie wrap can touch the swashplate arm. it just cant move as you rotate the shaft. the reference height will be consistent all way around

@@michaelgeorge3092 I was taught that there should be 90 degrees

It is actually the swash followers that should be 90 degrees. Maybe that is your misunderstanding? That’s why you should leave followers on when checking

Tony what's the purpose of swash leveling ?? Can it be done for nano cps ?

All helis drift. And leveling the swash plate fixes the problem on the rotor, so that you can focus on balancing the CG of the heli body and fix the bent blades after a crash to reduce the drift to a minimum. If your swashplate tilt to the right, and one blade is bent down, and CG is to the left, and your heli drifts backwards, should you add weight to the front or the the left? You don't know because all is messed up.

Is it better to use Sub trim or Ball links to make it level?

Rare Earth Magnet and Sewing Needle. Magnetic / Needle
Even a regular Magnetic / Needle will work. Level the swash after a complete build. Pre flight daily check with Magnetic / Needle. Just snap on a rare magnet on the main and slip in a large sewing needle,
    Low cost,
    Fast,
    No head removal,
    No leveling needed.
Zip Tie is good and low cost but Magnetic / Needle is better.

Way too much trouble. Leave the head and followers on. Also use a piece of masking tape (or any tape) the get down from the zip tie end to the swash balls. Also …. how to you know the swash is correct height rather than level? Answer… the followers should be horizontal. Height is not as critical as level, but why not check it?

There are specific measurements for the servo to swash arms that you can follow as a guide. Is it perfect in every situation, no, but that is where fine tuning comes into play. A swash leveling tool is a very common tool that some can't or don't want to purchase, and this method is a very good cheap method to replace this tool. Thanks for your comment Nigel. www.Rc-Help.com
