Some day I'll be half the poet she is, and I'll be more that proud of myself. Gods, she's amazing.

Andrea Gibson. Her poems always twist my heart into knots, so beautifully heartbreaking. I'm headed to Afghanistan for my first tour next month. This poem and "For Eli" are so frightfully intriguing, they definitely strike a chord of wonder for the future in me.

"When the sand in the desert has been melted down to glass and our reflection isn't something we can stand to look at does the white flag make for a perfect blindfold?" Gets me every time.

When she talked about how long flowers could survive in the hands of thieves during the end, and how it had so much more meaning, the meaning of lost innocence, I just lost it.

It always takes her a long time to start reading a poem that hurts... It's like she's swallowing a pill on a dry throat and it hurts to get it down... I don't think I could do it.
